Ate dinner here recently on a Saturday night. Beautiful outside dining area with a large gas fire pit. Beautiful! I had the filet... Melt in your mouth amazing! It was paired with the nose creamy mashed potatoes! So good! My friends salmon was so beautiful and delicious!! One of the best meals I've had In a long time. The old fashioneds were perfect! I've been to 1855 many times and have always had good food. They now have a glassed in eating area and a fabulous outdoor patio with bartender and gas fireplace. There's plenty of seating there, and you can order from their lunch menu so basically sandwiches, burgers, etc. We had about a 15 minute wait because we wanted the porch seating; otherwise seating was immediate. My favorites are the pizza, pastas, and someone in my party had the pork chop which looked very good. There's music on the weekends, and the restaurant is located right next to the glacier bike trails, so it's a perfect spot to rest and fuel up.

We recently moved to the area and tried this place out. We left disappointed. My wife and I ordered pretty simple items and they took nearly an hour to come out. My steak and mashed potatoes were cold and seemed to be sitting around for a while. My wife's basic sandwich was fine. No one ever checked on us. I couldn't even find anyone to give me a knife to cut my steak. It just didn't seem like anyone cared. Paying nearly 80 dollars for two meals and two beers you would expect more. Probably will not come back.

This has been our mainstay eating establishment for over 6 years. A reliable, delicious, well priced experience awaits you. I've worked the menu entirely and can say, everything has been delicious. I generally make a reservation to save time, but they accommodate everyone, in general. Be careful on occasions like Valentines Day, because this place is booked! My favorites are their Filet Mignon and 1855 Bourbon Pecan Chicken.

The 1855 Saloon and Grill name made me think of some place a little more down to earth. Arriving on a Friday evening and getting a seat at the bar I realized that it is a bit more "corporate classy". One of those places that takes a page out of the marketing playbook for a bar/restaurant. There is nothing wrong with that, but these places have a certain feel to them.
Since I already had fish for lunch, I did not try the fish fry here. Instead I broke from Friday tradition and had a pizza which was baked in a big oven right behind the bar. I washed it down with a couple of beers and I was happy. The server was very nice and efficient. Prices were on the higher side, but not surprising since they seemed to be going for an upscale vibe.
Overall I enjoyed my visit and I would return again.

I am always cautious when I go to any restaurant due to my allergy concerns from cross contamination. We were pleasantly surprised when our server Tory gave us a very comprehensive explanation regarding our menu choices.
Christina the General Manager also has a clear understanding of allergy concerns and is able to relay to that to the kitchen staff.
The food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere is very comfortable.
Overall a very satisfying experience and would highly recommend especially if you have any allergy concerns.

I have been to 1855 for both work functions and leisure. One thing they are is CONSISTENT. Consistent in great food, clean facilities, positive vibes, and the overall atmosphere. The staff are knowledgeable, and attentive, and treat every customer like a family friend.

I have had Tessa and Mady as servers more than once, and they ALWAYS come through with phenomenal service. I could swing by on those merits ALONE.

The assistant GM, Tommy, has also been fantastic to work with. Our company holds quarterly meetings here from time to time, and Tommy always ensures that the stage is set and prepared for our team, sometimes single-handedly, every time.

Came here for my birthday with 5 other people. I have to say this is one of my favorite places to come to. As soon as we walked in we were greeted. There is a vast variety of food, fantastic drinks & the staff is great. We had the pleasure of being served by Tori. She is beyond AMAZING!!! Very attentive, has a great sense of humor, just overall a fantastic person & server!!! She was a big part of our great experience here!!

I’ve been going here quite often as of lately. The service has been above and beyond and is bringing me back. The new manager and current staff are doing an excellent job. If you haven’t been there in a while, come back! I love their homemade salad dressings, the firecracker shrimp, brussel sprouts and wood fire pizzas. I also have been enjoying the extra attention they are doing behind the bar. My go-to, bourbon old fashion press with olives, is exactly how I like it. Beautiful place. I thiught the food was decent. We went to the bar first and then the last two people came, but the it took time for the bartenders to wait on them. Not busy for a Saturday night. Server was nice but didn't know if the soup was homemade. (Clam chowder). Had to ask for my brussel sprouts but I got a full serving. Prime rib was chewy. Turkey, bacon avocado wrap.good. my fish tacos were ok. The tenderloin and mashed potatoes were great. We had ice cream drinks, while they were good, they were a bit runny. We got the red raspberry rum cake one and I didn't taste any red raspberry rum. But it was good. We would return again.

Made reservations for 2024 Thanksgiving meal for 2 people at $39pp. Each of us came from different parts of the county so this was a perfect spot to meet in the middle. We were really looking forward to it due to the menu & cost as well as was organic which this accommodated my friends dietary restrictions. I arrived first & parked in the back. When I walked in, there were 3 people at the check in desk in a deep discussion. I went to approach the desk and the woman raised her arm and told me to hold on for a couple of minutes. (Warm holiday greeting right??) I looked around & saw the rest room so I took advantage of the wait to use it. When I came out I approached again and one of the men asked what’s the name (again, no ‘hi or ‘welcome) When I didn’t answer immediately he asked how many in the party. He then proceeded to read out loud names on the reservation list. This felt like a violation of the customers privacy but I guess we’re not talking HIPAA violation. Anyway, once my friends name was read I acknowledged and the woman grabbed the menu and drink list and showed me to the table. She showed me the menu & strongly emphasized the special holiday drinks. She left & the server appeared and asked me is someone else will be joining & i said ‘yes’ she was coming from another end of the county & I got seated early before she arrived. She said no problem & asked to take my drink order. Note: She tried to push the drink special too and I finally had to say, I don’t drink alcohol so I’ll get a soda.

The woman who sat me came back around after the server asking if someone was still planning to join me (mind you, our reservation time had still NOT come - she/they sat me early. Why did they sit me early if it was a problem??) I told her she just arrived & I point to my friend walking in the door. I asked if she needed to check in with the desk at the back of the restaurant & she said she’d take care of it. (Note: My friend arrived 5 minutes before our reservation time so neither of us were late.)

The server returned with my drink & asked my friend about a drink & she said nothing at this time. The server proceeded to ask for our order which confused us because we thought it was a set menu. She said it was except you had choices and she needed to submit those all at once. For example, you can’t just choose soup or salad now and then the main course choices & dessert after dinner. So, we gave our choices for everything.

She delivered my soup & my friend’s salad. We no more than looked at the food she just brought & she arrived with our full main course plates!!! What the ??!?? We asked what was going on and she said the kitchen was ahead of schedule!! She gave us no choice and put the plates on the table even though we hadn’t even tasted our other food!

As we worked through the food and finished a plate or glass someone walked by and grabbed it by even reaching in front of us! Don’t get me wrong, I like when restaurants clear the tables efficiency but reaching & not asking if we were done really emphasized the absolute RUSH we felt from the staff. In fact, the woman who originally sat me, walked by our table once or twice every 15 minutes! (There was a clock on the tv in the corner so that’s how I knew the timing.) Mind you, there were 5 empty tables right next to us that were never used while we were there so it wasn’t like there wasn’t room if they truly needed it.

The server checked in near the end of our meal & we asked if we could get a box since we were so stuffed from having to eat so quickly after the main course was delivered on top of the appetizer. We also wanted to save room for the pie. She brought the boxes. She then brought the pie, set it down & walked away without even asking if we wanted or needed anything else (ie coffee or tea with the pie). She returned seconds later putting the bill on the table walking away again. The food was decent but $39??. The turkey was shredded (??), you only get a quarter scoop of potatoes, stuffing , squash, tablespoon of cranberries & gravy. Rushing us was the worse.

Have done a lot of dining around Madison and have never been as satisfied as I was with this place. I was super happy to go a little further east and find a restaurant that has a friendly face as soon as you walk in the door and great food! The name makes it sound like your average restaurant/bar, but it really doesn’t do this place justice. They serve a wide variety of food ranging from something a little more casual and approachable, along with higher end locally sourced dishes. We enjoyed the beef stroganoff special, beet salad, and prime rib sandwich, then finished off with a Brandy Alexander. Our server Ella was fantastic and never missed a beat. I came here to grab some food after spending time at the car show, only to be disappointed. The food menu was very limited from what I originally saw online all because of the car show.
They couldn't accommodate the whole menu because of the car show, even though the place was pretty dead, looked like the regulars were only there.

As a returning customer we were disappointed with our dinner and experience tonight. Our server did not know what a kettle on martini was, we ordered a glass of Chardonnay and received a glass of red wine. We ordered ranch dressing, received French and when we asked for ranch instead the server never brought any. We ordered the bread appetizer and what we received was 2 warmed hamburger buns with butter and olive oil - it was also $9 on the menu and we were charged $10 for that ~ so disappointing. One of our dinners was ordered as a hamburger with added bacon - it arrived as a cheeseburger. Our server would take one drink order and leave quickly with out asking the rest of the table.
The rest of the food was average. This was a Thursday night - many open tables it took almost 2 hours for dinner. It will be a long time till we come back unfortunately.

The name of this place does not give it justice, it's not your average bar and grill. The place is huge, it has indoor, outdoor, and partially outdoor seating. The service was great, but the best part was the firecracker shrimp. Look at the photo, the shrimp are jumbo, they were fried perfectly and the sauce I don't have the words to describe how good it is. Now if you are not a fan of spicy food this is not for you but for me it was the best thing. I will definitely be becoming a regular. Go and try them shrimp.

EDIT: The Assistant General Manager reached out to my family and responded with an apology and wanted to correct this mistake. They assured us that the sundae SHOULD be complimentary, and they told us they would talk to the lead bar manager in response to the maple old fashioned. I'll leave the original review below, but I'll put the rating up to a 4/5 because service like this is hard to come by, and they've genuinely shown us they want to amend the issues we saw.

Such a disapponting meal! My family and I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner and we will not return. The maple old fashioned looked like a glass filled with ice and a shot of alcohol. Watered down almost instantly. The food was fine, BUT when it was mentioned there was a birthday, we were offered a birthday sundae.... Which was $5? We were never told it cost anything until we got the receipt. I've never heard of being charged for a birthday dessert, but this seemed like such snake behavior. On the plus side, all of the service was great. We were able to set a reservation online with ease. Our waitress was very kind and helpful (other than not mentioning the $5 sundae.. seriously who charges for a melted birthday sundae? Culver's gives free custard for your birthday but this place can't? Be for real you guys.)

EDIT 4/8/24- The manager reached out to me to address my concerns and also offered to host us again. We were celebrating a birthday and charged for a birthday sundae after we were told it was complimentary. I didn't notice until after payment and didn't want to cause a fuss.

The manager reached out to me and apologized for the charge and asked us to come back. As I stated in my review the manager was very busy caring for patrons and was genuinely concerned about the dining experience. This is not as common today as it once was, and shows the level of commitment needed for a successful business and dining experience. Simple gestures go a long way. We will be back in the not to distant future.

Not our first time here. We have been twice before and it is a good place to eat, have a beer, and relax. The service was very good and the atmosphere was comfortable. Everyone in our party seemed to enjoy the food but me.
I had turkey, avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich. It would have been perfect if the turkey was warmed. Instead it was as cold as the refrigerator, giving me the impression I was eating cold cuts piled on bread. The chips as sides seemed something homemade, greasy and quite flavorless.
The prices are not entirely surprising and not out of line. The manager was very busy checking in with people and making sure they were doing ok. We will be back, but likely have another dish.

First time there. My wife order the fried cod and I ordered a 8oz sirloin, medium. My salad was all stalks n bland. Steak was over cooked as were my tiger shrimp. No cocktail sauce was provided. I also ordered mushrooms. I maybe got six mushy ones. 39 for the Steak 10 for three shrimp and 4 or 5 for mushrooms. My soda came without much ice and warm in 10 minutes. We drove 45 minutes and left unimpressed with the food and prices. My granddaughters cheeseburger was like a hockey puck! My wife said the fish had very little taste and was greasy. My daughter n son-in-law said same. But, nice building. And the server was very nice.

We frequently dine @1855. Always great food!!! The restaurant is beautiful and always tastefully decorate for the season. They emailed the Valentines specials to us and we made a date! Please email me at least once a month. The food was amazing, service was great. The server- Polite and caring young lady, well spoken and knowledgeable about the food. It truly was a delightful evening. My date had the prime rib and I had the chateaubriand- to die for! Done perfectly - wish I took pictures for you all to see.

We had a great time trying out the three different dips and chips, they were absolutely delicious! The drinks were pretty good too. Now, let's talk about the burgers - they were good, maybe even a bit too flavorful! And don't even get me started on the chocolate cake, it was incredibly decadent and absolutely delicious. But you know what the highlight was? Those crispy and wonderfully tasty chips that came with the burgers. They were so good that we even enjoyed them as leftovers! Overall, we're really glad we decided to come here, it was a fantastic experience.

I really enjoyed 1855. I had the mediterranean salad with chicken and it was so tasty! Fresh and the dressing was very flavorful. I ordered a cab from France...I really enjoyed it. The staff was attentive , friendly and 3 or 4 staff said goodbye when we left. Well done!

I've been here many times. The last couple of times I've noticed that live music isn't happening on popular nights. The place isn't busy anymore and things that used to be included now cost money. Something changed and it isn't good. Look back at pre COVID and figure out what you used to be.

Our company reserved a table 3 days before the date, for 24 people in December for our after-board meeting outing. They were so accommodating and responded very quickly, and the team there was so sweet and professional! They even showed us their large party reduced-sized menu, that could be customized (swapped out with other menu items). Our team had such a great time, the server was kind and could dish up the banter our team gave her, amazing! I plan on coming back personally! Great service, food, and atmosphere!!

This is definitely a solid option for a decent lunch in the cottage grove area. We opted to sit outside at summer’s end, and it’s easy enough to catch a breeze and stay cool. The outdoor seating area is a nice feature, complete with a small bar with single restrooms attached to the back and heating lamps/pits for cooler weather.

Our server was experienced and knowledgeable and the food was pretty good! I wouldn’t say this restaurant is a favorite of mine but it is a good choice.

Fish tacos needed more fish. Soggy and only two small fillets. Others in my party liked their food but my tacos were pretty bad. Also we waited a long time for a server and had to go get someone after waiting for like 20 minutes on a Wednesday night. I don't like leaving bad reviews but it is what it is.

Food is okay. I had filet mignon and asparagus. The steak is decent. The asparagus is not bad but tastes a bit “sandy”, like sand or some particles on the surface of the asparagus. The main reason why I gave it a three is because I waited like 10 minutes until someone came get my order. And it’s only because I kept asking a real nice lady setting the tables to get someone. Oh. They also got the bill wrong the first time.

So many positives about 1855. Let's start with how beautiful & welcoming the restaurant is. Very large restaurant with a private room. Not only do they have a beautiful patio, they also have an enclosed type patio. Staff are wonderful, friendly - that's what I look for when dining anywhere. The nachos were huge & flavorful. I always say burgers are the best with a fresh bun & that's exactly what it was. I'm all about dessert, when you add how pretty the presentation is - I'm sold! Highly recommend 1855...

Needs work. Get into the restaurant from the back maybe easier than from stairs at the front. Nice looking brick building. Cheers like bar atmosphere inside. Food orders got messed up. Bill was messed up. Food quality / quantity was disappointing for the cost. Tenderloin fajitas had bits of meat (that should have been slices). Queso was chalky. Salsa runny. Guacamole and nacho chips were good. $4 taco is tiny (street size smaller than a saucer). Mac and cheese comes in big bowl but isn’t filled enough for a guy. Ice cream drinks came in wine glasses for $10 each.

The service was great. The atmosphere was great. The food was good but not great. Went for fish fry. They only had two kinds of fish, Cod and trout. If they offered Perch more people would come. I had the Trout. It was overcooked as was everybody's Cod. The price was high and the quality of the cooking should reflect that or the prices should come down.
