They have somewhat decent food! We only had the fish and shrimp with spaghetti & potato salad! Asked for it to be fried hard and still was soft! Side of banana pudding that went to the trash expeditiously! 2 people for $60! Also this much for food with no drinks to wash it down! Not no cold drinks/pop, no tea, no kool aid etc! Just a drink from the bar area! You only get the major sides I guess on Sundays! Other days is limited! I will not come back unless it’s Sunday to maybe give another chance!

First time eating any of their food, which was the soul food this past Sunday. I have the deep fried salmon, macaroni and cheese, cornbread dressing, coleslaw, topped with a cornbread muffin. Everything was equivalent to eating in heaven if I ever witnessed such.

No exaggeration. These people are of no friends or relationship as far I know, so I have nothing to gain by trying to promote on their behalf or because of the fact we’re black.

I really felt good all over knowing I was cheating my strict all salad, vegetables, fruit, and herbal tea fast/diet that day.

They really earned my 5 stars across the board. Good people, good service, good atmosphere, and great soul food. Hands down.

Was in Milwaukee for a small trip with my partner and friend and decided to try this place as I had a craving for some soul food. Amazing food! The service was wonderful, and our bartender was hilarious! I didn't drink anything but I glimpsed at some of the other table's drinks and they looked soooo good! Highly recommend coming here!

I am sorry people I forgot to do before pictures. This was the best meal I have had while here in town. The food was excellent the perch was golden brown and the spaghetti excellent enough the corn also. Thank you for a great meal. My 8 year old grandson loved it also he had the chicken wings spaghetti and green beans. Thanks again for a great meal.

Had they Sunday dinner and let's just say for the price I paid for 2 people It wasn't worth it. I paid $57 for a catfish dinner and wings dinner. The portions were for a kid. Me and my sister left still hungry. Never again. also, they put my hot chicken in a plastic container, which the chicken burned through.

They could give you more wings for the price of $10 giving you three pieces of wings and for $15 for a catfish they should give you at least three whole pieces. It tastes really good but they just need to give you more portion. Had a great time there

UPDATE: went again today 3/1/25, Saturday around 3:30 pm and it was CLOSED!!!!!! I don’t understand how a restaurant can be so inconsistent. Maybe the hours need to be updated. The hours say from 1 pm to 1 am. Is that not the case ?

Super disappointed. I really wanted to try this place. Showed up between 3-4 and places my order. About 20 minutes later I was told my order was cancelled due to them running out of food. I was kind of confused because how you can run out of food if you just opened at 1pm according to the Google maps hours? Anyhow, granted I was given a refund, however, I really did want to try the food because it looked bomb. I guess the establishment needs to be more organized.

I went there on 8/30/24 to have a few drinks and I never got served. I told one bartender (short hair dark skin guy) what I wanted and he was man enough to say that he didn't know how to make it which I can appreciate. So he went and told the lady bartender (older dark skinned lady gray hair) what I wanted and she never made my drink nor did she ever wait on me. I sat there 20+ minutes while she took everyone else's orders even those that came after me and she never acknowledged me at all. Sad. Not going back.

Took a while for me to do this review smh... had the gumbo on a Friday night and I have been sick since I ate it. Literally throwing up on both ends.. very bad stomach ache and pain.

On Saturday I woke up to make sure I wasn't tripping because I literally STOPPED eating the gumbo after a few spoons. So I looked at it.. smelled it... and sure enough was SOUR!

I never had a bad experience there.. however.. today is Sunday and I'm still sick. Prolly won't eat there again but the vibes are always valid.

Went with 2 people that cook and are normally hard to please. We all enjoyed the food and experience. Macaroni was even good and that’s usually where most restaurants fall short. My rating is actually a 2.7 out of 5. The menu was limited but tasted pretty good. It was the presentation for me. Take out plates and utensils to dine in to the point I was like no we are doing dine in and was told they heard us correctly. So that was a minus. Also for the cost of everything on my take out container no way that should cost $15. I had a smothered leg quarter green beans and corn. On a good day that was worth $8/9. I don't like a majority of soul food in Milwaukee because it taste lazy but this place will get a return out of me at least. Hopeful they will improve.

Love the atmosphere here at taste of soul mke. The owner did a really great job with the set up. The decor is a warm relaxed chill setting with great old school music and awesome tasteful food. My husband and I came in for soul food Sunday, and had the baked and fried chicken combo everything was superb.😋 The chef did his thing in the kitchen, and the bartender was very helpful with drink suggestions and information about what's on the menu throughout the week. It's refreshing to see more professional black owned businesses operating in MKE. 👍🏾👍🏾
