It's been a long time and I have a lot of history here. Before it was bombers, my son owned it as Waters.Edge. Then I was part of the crew during the burger wars and the social media push. For me, this will probably be one last time before they close. It was nice to reminisce.

Heard about AJ's on the news awhile ago and the burgers looked fantastic. I just read about MKE'S 40 Best Burgers, and AJ's made the list that wasn't in any numerical order. My husband and I went today around 2:30ish and we were the only customers in the restaurant along with two waitresses (that we witnessed). My husband's bun was hard and cracked in half immediately upon his first bite. It was a hard stale bun. My burger was good if it came the way I ordered it. The fries were so salty we couldnt even eat them. I am not even exagerating. I tried covering them with condiments without luck. I didnt have time to complain. I wanted to eat with my husband, not have my meal come out after he was done eating. Only to find out he couldnt eat his food. My burger didn't come with the cheese I ordered and the burger was cold. We flagged down our waitress and she asked us, What did you want?" Im sure she meant to say that differently. I shared my concern that I didn't get the second type of cheese I requested and she told me that I did it was under my other cheese. I told her it wasn't and had to pick up the two other slices of cheese to prove it to her. She did ask the cook if he put the correct cheese on it because she didn't believe me or the visual lift and came back and apologized for the miscommunication. She did offer to make a new one, by this time I started eating because I was getting irritated. She took $2.00 off for the error. Umm...thank you? I think?
Every window and the entry door were filthy, just disgusting. Why were the waitresses sitting down doing something with menues, you seriously could not see through the smeared windows. It did look they did try to clean them but didn't follow up on their work.
Good luck to whoever tries the places out. As I'm writing this review a promotion came on the news again. Kudos to you AJ's. Maybe I went to the wrong location? Do you have another place other than water street?

I truly feel like this is a hidden gem but its right on the corner of a busy street lol. Hands down the best burger i have ever had. Very flavorful. I had the cheese on cheese. Not greasy and best flavor ever. I even came to work this morning raving out it. The food, the service, the drinks, the atmosphere was fantastic. WILL return!

Must've been an off day for them. Don't think my burger had bacon on it and it was pretty small. Cheese curds were all kind of squished together in the bottom of the box, drowning in grease. Not impressed for $20, plus tip.

Just visited AJ Bombers the other day. It was a wonderful experience & the food was delicious as always! I had great service from the bartender Kileigh and will definitely be returning soon. I am so so sad to see that they are planning on closing in November. Hoping that this decision can be turned around as I always love visiting this establishment!!!

Went today before walking to a concert at Fiserv Forum. Start off with the cheese curds. They are so good! Not too greasy and the breading is just enough. Best ones I’ve tried in Milwaukee.
We ordered the Big Boy Tribute with tater tots and the Bomb Butter Burger with onion strings. They were VERY tasty! The Big Boy is like a BigMac. Finished off with a chocolate and vanilla frozen custard shake. It tasted super fresh.

Popular hamburger joint that has a handful of very delicious hamburgers. The Bomber Sauce is a nice touch of flavor. They have these metal bombs they fill with peanuts and are sailed across the bar on railings to where customers sit. When the bomb hits its targeted table, shelled 🥜 drop into a container onto the table. The bartender was very sweet and the Bomber 🍺 I ordered was out so she comped me one. It was fun to read all the graffitti written all over the restaurant.

I went to AJ’s this past Friday to meet a friend and have a drink/lunch. The bartender was awesome and created an entertaining environment. The margarita with Nosotros tequila is a must get! My food also came out very fast and was delicious! This is a great place to eat and socialize..I highly recommend stopping in!

My friends and I came in to eat for my birthday earlier tonight. What a great time we had. Ellen was or server. She made it special for me. We order cheese curds (great recommendation Ellen), burgers, fries, and a boozy shake. Ellen took the time to light a candle and put it in the shake and sang happy birthday to me. We were disappointed that they changed the custard for the root beer float we ordered. This was our main draw that kept us coming back from Chicago. We even have ordered it on its own to go. The quality of the custard is cheap now and far too sweet, just not the same at all. The other issue we had was the pretzel bun I paid extra for to have with my Medusa was rock hard. We told the waitress and she told us that's how the pretzel bun is but that also is not what I remember of the quality at Aj Bombers. Another thing I noticed is there were no special burgers. The rotating burger selection was the best. The cheese curds, tots, and onion strings were the best part but definitely not good enough to get us back to AJ Bombers. We are super bummed.

Waited over 45 minutes for two burgers when there wasn’t anyone else in the restaurant, then they proceeded to tell us they got the burger wrong so they’re remaking it, which led to one of the burgers being cold and taking more time. I don’t understand the hype behind this place and it’s extremely dirty. The server also just ignored us and was messing around with her coworkers and came to apologize. Not worth the time or money. When looking for an authentic Wisconsin butter burger on a recent trip to Milwaukee, my hotel concierge recommended AJ Bombers. Their recommendation was on point.
I had the classic AJ burger (with bacon, as you should) and was blown away by the amazing flavor. Perfect tempature on the burger, not too messy, and flavors that colessed into a fantastic mouth feel experience.
I also sampled the cheese curds on offer and can 100% recommend to anyone looking for an authentic Wisconsin culinary experience.
My server Jessica was fantastic in her ability to answer all the questions I had about the menu as an outsider, and had a wonderful sense of humor that kept me laughing during the majority of my visit.
If you are in the mood for a great bite downtown while in Milwaukee, AJ Bombers is the place!

Hostess was friendly. Bartender was more interested in emptying the dishwasher than taking my order. Waitress was unfriendly at first, but that changed. Never got the peanuts we asked for. Honestly, this place went downhill since Covid. It was great in 2018, but we went last week for the nostalgia and expecting amazing food... but it didn't deliver. The planes don't run anymore overhead. The service was mediocre at beat, except the kids' food did come out quick, but ours took forever. I honestly don't understand how this place has good reviews... I went over the weekend and was extremely disappointed. It stinks so bad in there, it is very dirty, the staff looked like they just rolled out of bed. My burger was okay, was kinda cold. Fries were too salty. My friend's burger had dark brown avocado that we thought were mushrooms! He hated the burger overall. The pop was flat. I was starving so I just sucked it up and ate it. Bombers is a great place to go have a burger and beer. It starts with them sending you a bunch of shelled peanuts in a contraption that delivers bunch of peanuts dropping from above your table. It's fun!

I had a patty melt. The burger was delicious and perfectly cooked with really fresh and flavorful ground beef on a crispy toasted rye slice, Swiss cheese, grilled onions, and a hint of steak sauce.

Delectable! Don't miss AJ Bombers if you are looking for a tasty burger. They have many burger choices including the knockoff of a "Marcs Big Boy"....yummy!

Was not all what I expected. Menu far and in between selection on the menu. Small, don't go with a big group because they can't put tables together. Could use some remodeling to make the place bigger. Waitress could not remember what plate went to whom for my husband and me. Very cool and unique spot! I’m sure it’s already well-documented but the ceiling-mounted peanut tracks are super fun for groups and families. We came to the restaurant on a Sunday evening and the place was nearly empty. The sign said to wait to be seated and nobody came to seat us so we went to the bar area. Honestly the bartender made me feel like an inconvenience to be there, she was trying to close the bar down at 5 while the packer game was playing and was talking to her coworkers about how she didn't want to be there. I ordered a bloody mary and the burger accessory was iced cold. Restaurant staff would sit and hang out at the bar. The kitchen was playing very loud music we weren't able to hear the game. I used to frequent this restaurant when it first opened. Was one of my favorite spots in the city. I came tonight with my girlfriend and was highly disappointed. The chesds curds were cold. Saw an advertisement on Facebook for this restaurant, showcasing boozy milkshakes. We were so excited to pull in, the host had a great smile and said our server at the bar would be very egar to take care of us.

The cheese curds were siting in so much grease. So much so the grease was reflecting. They should have let them sit on a towel for a bit before serving them so the towel can soak up a lot of that grease. I wish I can post a video of the grease falling off of the cheese curd. This is one of those meals I think about from time to time! I was in Milwaukee for a day hanging out. While I'm in a new city, I'm always on the search for what the locals eat. AJ Bombers was a great lunch spot for my visit!

The food was absolutely perfect and the atmosphere made it a memorable moment. The writing on the walls is unique and something I've really only ever seen in the bathrooms of a dive bar!

Recommend 10/10 if you're hungry for a juicy burger and fresh fries!🍔🍟

Jaylen, my waitress provided me phenomenal service as a first time visitor to AJ Bombers and Milwaukee. She was super personable, knew tons of menu items, and gave great recommendations. It was a pleasure to dine in and be treated with such kindness and attention. She provided consistent service and support, while also managing numerous other tables. If ever back in Milwaukee, I would be delighted to dine in here again, because of the service I received! Amazing burger and tots! Also the Chocolate shake was super tasty!

Food was just okay. I liked the frickles. Staff was so rude. Server asked if we were just lounging and could she finally bring us the check when my husband still had food on his plate. We had only been there like 35 minutes. It was his birthday too so that kind of bummed us out that that's how we'll remember that evening. We won't be back. And you should pick one of the fifteen other restaurants on Water instead. The kids working here don't want to be here, and they're giving off the impression that they're purposely failing at being wait staff so you don't go either.

Had this place about 3 years ago and remember it being way better. Now the burgers and cheese curds seems average at best and the peanut butter milk shake is liquidy. The service was really good though.

The food was good and came out pretty quickly! The portions are a little smaller more fit for one more so i don’t think it would be satisfying any teenagers soon. The atmosphere is very unique and always something around to catch your interest. Our server was very nice and attentive. I would go here again!

It was really cool seeing everyone's little blerps all over the walls, chairs and tables. I enjoyed it, gave it a welcoming atmosphere. Our waitress was awesome, she gave great recommendations. The Medusa burger is heavenly, as are the cheese curds and skin-on fries

Dropped a kid off at college and was recommended this place for burgers. Went on a Thursday at 2 in the afternoon. Restaurant was 50% full. It was not a lunch rush hour.

First- we have a child with a peanut allergy (he was not with us) there are peanuts all over- so if you have an allergy or loved on with an allergy, you need to avoid this place.

The food was good but took a ridiculously long time to arrive. We sat and ordered drinks and an appetizer. It took over 75 minutes for our app to arrive and it arrived WITH our meal. We should have sent it back, but didn't want to be jerks.

There are 3 women working there, one must have been a manger because she didn't do anything. One was making drinks, working hard and running around, the other kept going in the back and disappearing. This was probably one of the worst experiences we had in terms of service. WE NEVER RECEIVED SILVERWARE. and yes, we needed it to eat several of our meals. We couldn't even ask for it, because once we got our food, all 3 employees disappeared for 20+ minutes. They next time we saw them was to pay our bill. We never got refills on our drinks, and we had sat there for nearly 2 hours.

The food was good, but expensive, and the atmosphere was fun. I wouldn't go back here. Not sure if they are used to catering to college kids with low service expectations and no confidence to voice their opinion or what, but I woudl avoid this place. It wasn't worth the time we wasted sitting there.

$$ This is located a few blocks from MSOE so it is a college age hangout. There are tables around the perimeter surrounding a relatively long bar. There are several large tvs showing current sport broadcasts.
The food is decent and primarily burgers. Soft drinks are available plus anything from full bar. They also serve milkshakes than can be made into adult beverages. Surprisingly, children are welcome with family dining and a unique feature of the booths is receiving peanuts in an airplane "bomber" that is slid down a rail from behind the bar and generates a large thud when it "lands!" And on that note, they serve peanuts so beware if any nut allergies.
Parking is either meter on the street or at a paid lot across street.
Estimate a family of four with four meals, soft drinks, appetizer, and tip will be around $100.

TLDR: one girl did all the work and rushed around while the other two sat there on their phones.

I came in and there was only one table at lunch. The bartender came and took my order after a few minutes but it didn’t seem like she was in a good mood… didn’t take me long to realize why. There was another two people there and neither did anything (the gentleman greeted and sat down one table). She was running around making drinks, serving food and taking orders for the whole restaurant while the other two sat in a booth on their phones.

I ordered the peanut butter burger and while the burger was decent, the peanut butter really didn’t do much for the sandwich as a whole.

Still haven't got back to their old menu items? Haven't been here in a few years since covid was going on. At the time covid was happening the suppliers for some of their items were interrupted which I understood. But 4yrs later and they still haven't been able to bring their old menu items back? Makes no sense. And this time server was horrible. Acted like it was a problem he had tables to wait on. Food took forever and the fries and tots were cooked a little too long. Everything else we ordered was good. Still good food for the most part but they definitely need their older menu items back like poutine and the barnyard burger.
