Good sushi rolls and lo Mein at a good price. The space itself is very takeout focused and isn't necessarily setup great for dining in. They do keep everything clean but don't expect a full on dining atmosphere.

We had a few specialty rolls which were all delicious, two pieces of the red snapper sushi, and the akari lo Mein. All were delicious and the sushi had large fresh cuts of fish. We spent 70 after a modest tip and had some to take home.

I would absolutely recommend for takeout or a quick bite.

The main lady (maybe the owner?) is super rude! I've been in there 4 times for ubereats pickups and EVERY TIME she just throws the food on the counter after you tell her you're there to pick up! Little mom-and-pop shop trying their best. Polite and courteous, but the food was disappointing. I got the Philadelphia and Alaska roll. Neither had any real flavor other than the cream cheese. Very light on the seaweed to, more of a C than an O, making neither roll properly sealed so they fell apart as soon as I pick them up.

I wouldn't take a date here, but if you have a teenager who wants to try 'Japanese food' on a budget this would definitely be a great place for it.

I used to live much closer, and I would order from this place all the time. Just went back last week when I was in the area, and it's still as good as I remember! The food has always been delicious, the service fast and consistent, prices very reasonable - it's always a go-to good experience. Atmosphere all depends on what you're looking for - sometimes the best places are the ones where there isn't enough room to sit down; this is one of those places. Highly recommend!

Got this as takeout for the first time and it did not impress. Dragon roll barely had unagi glaze. The California roll had plain sliced imitation crab and overall tasted plain. Very disappointed in the sushi. Husband picked up dinner for me and he left it in the fridge for about an hour. Came home and tried to eat it but the sushi would get stuck to each other and rip off and unroll everything inside. I sadly couldn't even eat it, I will not be returning to this restaurant.

We ordered 5 different sushi rolls (2 specialty, 3 regular), miso soup, and crab rangoons and the food overall was absolutely fantastic! The amount of protein within each roll was amazing, the tofu pieces in the miso soup was *chefs kiss*, and the crab Rangoons were, by far, the best I’ve ever had in Madison. Breading to filling ratio was literally perfect. Will definitely be going back as a regular!

I drive past regularly and honestly was wary of getting sushi from a tiny place in a dumpy strip mall. For one of my daughter's birthdays recently she requested sushi. She is used to "grocery store" sushi but we had several people to feed and so looked at sushi places. The wife and I have had "high-end" sushi every so often but the places we would be talking about would be quite pricey. Anyway, we decided to give this place a shot. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and amazed at the final bill. We got a nice variety of rolls and appetizers. Nothing was bad, all fresh and tasty. It was a hit and about $85 to feed 8 so more than reasonable. I think this may be a hidden gem an excuse to have sushi more often!

Absolutely the worst sushi I have ever had in my life. Even the tempura appetizer was sub-standard. Almost inedible. Whatever it was that was supposed to be Himachi, was not. Maybe it was Yellowtail frozen and thawed several times, but it had that grainy, old tasteless character that screamed "Cat Food". It was not, not at all fresh. Just plain garbage. I threw out half the tempura and stopped eating the sushi after a few pieces. A complete and utter waste of good money. Maybe their Chinese food is different, but this is NOT a sushi restaurant.

When I first started ordering from here it was great. Slowly it has completely deteriorated. I order delivery almost everytime, and not only has my food (usually just a philly roll and gyoza) taken an average of an hour and a half to get here, but half the time my gyoza will be stone cold by the time it’s delivered. One time I was waiting for my order, after an hour and forty mins, I called the store to ask about it. Turns out they hadn’t even started on it, but if I wanted to pick it up it could be ready in twenty. I was hungry and decided to pick it up, not only had I already payed and tipped for delivery, none of which was offered back, but when I arrived at the store 20 minutes later my food was still not ready, they actually hadn’t even started it yet. Now in hindsight this incident was during the first few weeks of quarantine on a friday night, they were clearly in over their heads. However there is now a pattern of consistency in their slowness, unprofessional wait times (they should have stopped taking orders, a place can only handle so much), and overall lack of care for the customer. I received no call that it would be longer, nor a notification of how busy they were, had I known I would of tried somewhere else. I do not recommend this place. Mediocre selection, average food. Order somewhere else.

I usually enjoy this establishment, so rating 3 stars because of that. I got the dragon roll (shrimp and eel) and i only had eel on 3 pieces out of a full specialty role... Was a bit bland today, Okay. I get it. Then after not wanting to eat the whole thing.. i decided to eat a piece of ginger. First bite something sharp got stuck in my teeth... And it was a tiny fish bone. Eel bone? Lord knows. It was on my ginger. That is all. I only get it once and a while, and i never post reviews but this one needed to happen.

Despite its low-key, "hole in the wall" appearance, this sushi joint dishes out some of the tastiest sushi I've ever had. And, they deliver, which comes in handy when I don't feel like leaving my home. Portion sizes are decent and the prices are inexpensive. We ordered spring rolls, vegetable teriyaki, and a few rolls of sushi, and delivery took over an hour to reach us.

The spring rolls were fried and not in rice paper--which may be a kind of spring roll I've never heard of, but the menu didn't specify differently, which would have been helpful in deciding whether or not to order.

It is clear that the vegetable teriyaki is made with fresh, and not frozen, vegetables, which is a plus, but there was no flavor and the dish was bland.

The sushi, while tasty, was very sloppy. The rolls were coming apart in the container.

Everything was pretty cheap cost-wise, and the delivery driver was friendly and very apologetic upon arrival, but I don't think I would order from Akari again.

Flavor wise, standard. This might sound weird, but structure wise it was a little different than what you'd expect. Their philly roll puts the salmon on the outside, just havent seen that before. And the monster roll i got was super tasty but pretty loose = sloopy sushi. Its was decent, but for $5 more you get what you're picturing. I didnt hate it.

I like Akari a lot. It is a pretty casual, small, take out restaurant. Casual sushi places are my personal preference, so please note this is not a fancy place. It’s my favorite lunch spot and the only Madison sushi restaurant I have come back to consistently. For the quality, speed, and tastiness I think it is worth trying. I tend to get their spicy tuna rolls but I just tried the hamachi (yellowtail) nigiri. They have been consistently good. I also particularly like the owner. She has been there every time I have picked up, but she is really nice.

The building itself is really small but I don't want to rate it entirely on the size of the building. The people there were really nice and helpful so customer service is great. I love the spicy california roll and and crab ragoon. Their delivery is pretty quick as well. Not sure where the uncleanliness bit come in on some reviews because the inside has looked clean to me. Outside does look a little drabby but there are other buildings in the little area that it's connected to. I've ordered delivery from here several times now. They leave an ETA on the online receipt, as most restaurants do, for about an hour from when I place my order. But they ALWAYS come way sooner! It's great! The fastest time they ever came was in less than 25 minutes. The man who makes the delivery is very chipper and sweet. I'm also a picky eater, so I make ingredient substitutes on my orders. They follow my wishes perfectly every time. I even just ordered and had to call to make a change on my order, and both the girl and the lady on the phone were very nice. Their sushi is the best I've ever had. I got a Vegetable Tempura Bento Box. Prices are reason for the food and amount . Food was good. I like to stop here when I am doing laundry next door. It is a very new restaurant.
