Way, way overrated. This was the third and last time we'll eat there with so many super clubs in Door county. With a reservation, seating was 35 min after check in time, then it's another 10 min for someone to get your drink order, and another 10 min to get your drink. After that when the soup and salads came you were almost rushed to say you were done. The main courses chosen were good but very over priced. Get ready to pay $100 per person with tip. A very disappointing experience we will not repeat.

Our server was phenomenal and she was working her fanny off!! The food was very good but not quite a five! Portions are large. Large crowd, kind of loud, means smaller groups can get looked over. Go earlier in the evening so you don't feel rushed.

Seated 20 minutes after our reservation. Waitress never acknowledged our anniversary which we disclosed in our reservation. Sat another 20 minutes before our drink order was taken and another 15 before appetizers. Appetizer was finished well before the opportunity to order our meal. One of our lobster tails was undercooked. We will have to celebrate our anniversary again on a different date, because that didn’t count as a celebration.

Waited 20 min after our reserved time. Waited 2h for the main course to be served. Server stopped maybe 4 times during the whole 3-4h we were there. Lobster was undercooked. If you are looking for a nice fine dining or nice cozy experience - neither is this place. Find somewhere else

We were there on Thursday night 10/9/25. Our server was great and was very attentive. We had a 6:00 reservation and seated immediately. My wife had seafood vol AU Vent which was just delicious, the shrimp, lobster and scallops were perfect and the lobster cream sauce could be used for anything it was so good. I had the pork chop Chloe, it’s a pork chop pocketed with prosciutto ham, fontina, fontinella and provolone, omg, it was so good. I had an old fashion and my wife had the prosecco. We were here for the first time even though going to door county for years and it’s on our list to stop every year, we will be back

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! For the life of my I cannot fathom how this place has as high of a rating as it does. This may have been one of the worst meals I've had the misfortune of having in a restaurant. We came with my husband and two friends on our most recent Door County trip. To start I called weeks ago for a reservation only for us to show up and be told they don't have us on the books. I get that mistakes happen, and we're a patient group in general, but there was zero apology. They were able to get us in, but we waited 38 minutes. Okay, fine, it's a busy Friday night. We ordered five appetizers: the scallops, seared tuna, baked brie, artichoke and gorgonzola dip and a steak tenderloin on special (we're a pretty big foodie group). The seared tuna and gorgonzola dip were decent, the scallops had no sear, the steak tenderloin was so so (the guacamole that came on the side outshone the meat) and the brie was so abysmal we didn't eat it. It was covered in so much fruit and was overall cold. Then we ordered entrees, which came with soup or salad. That night they offered beef barley and lobster bisque. The beef barley was alright, but the lobster bisque was so disgusting we couldn't eat it. It was watery, flavorless and grainy. I had the shrimp scampi and the rest of the group ordered steaks: the filet mignon, the cowboy ribeye and the gorgonzola filet. The filets were fine but nothing special, which is a little frustrating when you're paying higher prices. The cowboy ribeye was such a poor cut that it was more fat than steak. The shrimp was so so, but the pasta was incredibly overcooked. The green beans that came on the side of each of our dishes were so sad and squishy we didn't touch them after that first taste. The chocolate martinis were also disappointing - they were watery and lacked a full rich chocolate flavor leaving a lot of to be desired. Our server (I cannot remember his name) did a good job, which is the only reason why I'm not giving this a one-star review, but we could tell he was stressed and busy. When you're a steak house, the servers should be granted time to fully dedicate time to their tables, but we do not fault him at all. If you're looking for a genuine quality meal in Door County, Alexander's is not it.

A quick story. I was at a local bar yesterday, and when I asked to close my tab, the bartender handed me a card that had exactly the same design as mine, and the same first name, but someone else's last name. It turned out he'd mistakenly given my card to another patron, who was long gone.
I locked the card immediately, and later got a notice from my bank that someone had tried to use my card at Alexander's. I was five minutes away, so I drove over in the hopes that I could catch the other Joe while he was still there.
It was *very* busy in the restaurant, but the hostess went and spoke to all the wait staff while I talked to the bartenders, and it turned out that the unsuspecting Joe *was* still there, and we got everything resolved with no fuss and a couple of laughs. No harm done, and now I have a funny story.
I have not yet had the chance to eat at Alexander's, but I'd like to give a very sincere thank you to the entire staff for taking the time out of their busy evening to help me resolve a stressful situation.

I am not joking when I say that this is one of the best meals I have had in a long time! They started with the warm Italian bread which was perfect. We enjoyed the escargot appetizer which was served inside a puff pastry and it was absolutely amazing and different than any other restaurant where I have ordered escargot. The creamy mushroom chicken soup was so flavorful and amazing. My wife had the swordfish topped with crab meat and she absolutely loved it. My ribeye was cooked to Perfection and the au gratin potatoes were perfect. Our waitress Claudia was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and not overbearing at all. The only negative I can come up with, would be that we were seated outside in a covered patio with a view of the next door neighbor house and their dirt Mounds but the food was so good that we didn't care! Highly, highly recommended!

Really disappointed, do not recommend. We went here for a special date night at the recommendation of several family members who raved about it, and we’d never been. The appetizer special was great, but everything else was terrible. Slow, inattentive service. Server seemed overwhelmed. Ribeye was overcooked, sent back and replacement was not a good cut with no flavor. Seafood cioppino was also overcooked- dry, tough shrimp and lobster, mushy pasta, oily sauce- couldn’t eat it and wish I had sent it back. The lady next to us actually sent her shrimp scampi back for the same reasons and was equally unimpressed. Maybe an off night, suspect main course was under the lamps too long because the pasta came out exceptionally hot. Overall an expensive disappointment. :(

Food was very delicious. Classic High end restaurant with good size portions. Restaurant was really loud so better to get there at 7:30 and enjoy your meal as people are clearing out. Reservations are essential. Call early in the day or even days in advance. It’s a popular place. Great date restaurant. If you don’t have a reservation and have to wait for a table the bar is a nice option. With drink, appetizers, main meal, and wine with dinner, the bill was over $120 for two.

Do not eat here!! There are much better restaurants in Door County.
We waited 49 minutes for our server to take our main order, the crab cake appetizer was mushy, cold, and served on a giant bed of slimy greens and covered in thick gloopy hollandaise sauce. The server asked if we wanted salad or soup, but failed to mention the $3 upcharge. And when we got our salads the dressing tasted off, like it had gone sour. Lastly we were told that the fish was fresh, but the large pool of water on my plate would indicate otherwise
Probably one of the worst restaurants I have eaten at in my life.

We’ve been frequenting this restaurant for years, and it’s only improved over time. Every area has its best restaurant, and this one is the place to be. Be prepared to spend your hard-earned money, but it’s totally worth it.
We had a reservation, and we were seated promptly at the scheduled time. We arrived a bit early and found a cozy and comfortable bar to wait in. There’s free parking, but it can get crowded during peak hours.
The service was impeccable. Everything ran smoothly and on time.
This time, we decided to try the lobster bisque soup. It wasn’t as thick as we had anticipated, but it still had the rich essence of lobster and was generously filled with chunks of lobster meat. The bread was served hot, but the butter was served cold.
I opted for the pork chop à la Chloe, which was undoubtedly the best pork chop I’ve ever had. It was a tomahawk cut, sliced open on the side, and filled with a delightful combination of cheese and prosciutto. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and was covered in a luscious mushroom wine sauce. It was served with a side of cauliflower cheese au gratin potatoes, and an assortment of perfectly cooked vegetables.
My wife chose the Sea Bass with a lobster Bernaise sauce. It was served perfectly cooked with asparagus and cauliflower mashed potatoes.
Both dishes were accompanied by an array of delectable microgreens.
For dessert, we indulged in the decadent chocolate cake and the amaretto cherry gelato. Each dish was unique in its own way, reasonably priced and a certainly delicious.
We had these desserts served with lemonade, which was perfectly sweetened to complement the rich flavors of the desserts.

We have eaten at Alexander's many times over the past 15 years. It was consistently very good until our last visit, when both the food and service were mediocre. We thought that was an off night, so decided to give it another try tonight.
Our experience tonight was terrible. It took an hour and a half to get our food. We had to get our own drinks from the bar because our server was so overwhelmed. My husband's steak was ok, just average. My food, the chicken with ravioli, was good, but my daughter's pasta with broccoli, was barely edible. The salads were drowning in dressing and were unappetizing.
Despite the fact that the servers were clearly struggling, the hostess did not leave the host stand and did nothing to help.
This is now a pattern, and we will not be back.

I was overall unimpressed by our experience here. The food was just okay, nothing special. We had steak, lobster, duck and a seafood dish. The seafood dish was supposed to be a rich creamy sauce over puff pastry and seafood medley. It was basically cream sauce soup and very rich so I do not recommend that. The steak, lobster and duck were great. The creme brulee was poorly made and was again very soupy and chunky. I'd say there are better places to grab dinner in DC.

I was last here around 10 years ago and remembered it as one of the most delicious steaks I've ever had. My wife and I came up to the Door for a short 1st Anniversary getaway and I decided this should be the destination for our special night's dinner. I was not misremebering, nor was I disappointed. My filet was perfect, done au poive with a white cognac cream sauce, and my lobster tail was melt in your mouth soft. My wife's scallops were tender and deliciously seasoned. The salads and potatoes were great. Service was fast and attentive. Would 10/10 recommend, and I will certainly not wait so long to return.

We would have had a great experience were it not for the extremely surly bartender. My husband and I took a seat at the bar while waiting for our table on a busy Saturday night. We noticed the bartender was busy, but he appeared very agitated and ignored us for several minutes. Nonetheless, we patiently waited. He then took our order and when my husband asked for an old fashioned, the bartender was annoyed bc we weren't familiar with how they make them (sweet vs sour pressed). Shouldn't have been a big deal but the bartender proceeded to rudely ask where we're from (as if that matters... We were being very polite) and goes "you're from Chicago, aren't you." He gave us our drinks then stomped away before I could tell him to close out our tab. Another bartender cashed us out and we left the bar, even though our table wasn't ready because the energy was rather negative. I understand tourists aren't always appreciated if they behave poorly, but we did nothing wrong. This encounter ruined the rest of my dining experience.

Superb! Had an outstanding dining experience at Alexander’s. Started with baked brie covered with lingonberry compote, fresh fruit and heated French baguette, delicious. Next, lobster bisque, not overly rich with a nice creamy texture and excellent flavor. Entree(s) - 6 oz filet (med rare) with sautéd mushrooms; nicely seared, perfectly cooked, tender, moist, and flavorful. Rack of lamb (med rare) was splendid. Tender and savory with classic buttery texture and served with one of the finest bordelaise sauces I’ve ever tasted…a must for any steak. The house vegetables and au gratin potatoes were perfectly prepared; fresh and tasty. Wine list is more than adequate and fairly priced. Server (Kevin) was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Interior is tastefully decorated with tables well spaced. Everything spot on! Going back soon…SUPERB!!

Wasn’t able to experience this restaurant unfortunately. My boyfriend and I are up in Door County for the Weekend and thought this restaurant would be perfect with all the different food and drink options they offer. We noticed they don’t even open the bar until 4pm and restaurant not until 5pm. I called around 12pm the day we wanted to go and left a voicemail kindly stating we have a party of two and want a reservation at 6:30pm. The host called me back and said they’re full…Please state on your website to call in further advance. How are we supposed to know if you’re booked and you’re not even open for the day yet.

For our first Saturday night of the cottage season, we chose Alexander’s for dinner. We had our two daughters, aged 2 and 11 months (I know, I know but we really wanted some delicious food!). Our table was the perfect set up to accommodate our high chair and booster seat and my giant bag of distractions. I wanted to really give some high praise to the staff - from the friendly hostess, the attentive table service, and the star of our show - our amazing waitress Juana. She was so kind and patient and generally good natured with our girls and we felt really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. Thank you so much! Can’t wait to visit again during this season!

We went for Easter Brunch assuming it was $34 per person as was posted on their website. We were charged $39 and when we asked our waiter he said that’s the cost and told us to ask the lady up front. We asked the lady at the hostess station about that and she said it was never changed in their website but the cost was $39. My husband politely asked if their mistake was our problem and she said yes and moved into the next customer. We paid and left. We were disappointed by the response; we were not asking for anything more than to honor the cost advertised.

We were so excited to try this place. This place was recommended to us by a local friend. We had never been here before and it was like a blizzard when we arrived. We couldn’t see the parking lot as there was at least an inch of snow in the parking lot. Well, needless to say we parked in the wrong area. Once they asked whose truck it was we moved it immediately. However in this process the bartender let other patrons yell obscenities at us. Once this happened we asked for our food to go all while another patron continued to yell at us. What should have been a good dining experience turned into a disaster and the staff did nothing to tell the patrons yelling at us to stop.

6/1/24 First time, not sure I will return. Arrived early for our reservation, proceeded to the bar for a great drink. Was seated close to our reservation time of 7:15 PM.
We then waited 20 min.for a waitress to come to our table for our order.
I finally got up and discussed our wait with the hostess.
I am somewhat understanding of staffing challenges in Door but the hostess, when I asked claimed they don’t have a shortage.
I will also note that the hostess was not apologetic.
From what I could determine, there was one waitress for six tables, including covering a large group of ten. No shortage of wait help?
Why they wouldn’t hire runners for the food delivery.
The food was very good but there are other restaurants in Door that have equally good food and have table service figured out.
I sure hope they can get this staffing straightened out before the Summer season gets in full gear.
Fast forward 7 months and we returned. Firm believer in trying a restaurant a second time.
Ordered a pre dinner brandy old fashioned, very weak on brandy.
This (1/10/25) evening had Blackened Salmon.
I have had blackened fish (other restaurants) before and like it.
Alexander’s Blackened Salmon was extremely salty and slightly overcooked.
The table service, including the much needed water refills were great.
Wish this restaurant could get both the food and service straight. Will likely not return a third time.

We went here as our anniversary dinner and it was our first time there. We left so disappointed, we will never go back. The food was subpar at best. My husband and I both had steak (fillet and NY Strip). Neither one of us finished our meal. We had the bread appetizer and that was actually quite good.
The worst part of this restaurant is the atmosphere. I kept seeing recommendations to Alexander's for romantic or anniversary dinners so we were very excited. This place was SO LOUD that you could not even hear yourself think. There were several babies and young children in the restaurant crying and screaming and the adults were no better. A sports bar is quieter than this place! My husband and I were literally yelling across the table at each other.
Not exactly sure why this place is so highly recommended.

Reservations are definitely needed. We were able to get one 2 days in advance. Arrived early and had a drink at the bar. Seated at our scheduled time, very nice server. The halibut and NY strip were cooked to perfection! We will be back!

The best meal during our stay in Door County. The food and service were fantastic in a nice upscale setting. Waiter was friendly and attentive but the best part was the food. So delicious. I had the cherry roasted duck which was so good. Our group also ordered the stuffed shrimp, filet mignon and seafood vol au vin which were all equally delicious. They helped us celebrate two birthdays and our anniversary with complementary deserts and candles. It was pricey but 100% worth every penny.

A must visit restaurant for a romantic dinner. Classic Wisconsin supper club atmosphere, very friendly staff, and the food was sensational (worth every penny). You can try calling to make a reservation but when we arrived we put our name on the list and had great drinks at the bar before our table was ready. The steak with Gorgonzola butter is delicious and the fresh Friday fish special was amazing. Add this place to your list for your next weekend getaway.

The staff is rather unpleasant. We stopped in to see if they had any availability as we last minute found ourselves in the area for dinner. We were not in any way pushy about it. The host (older male) was super condescending and made it seem like us being there without calling ahead was a major inconvenience despite having multiple openings in his book which he was adding us to. After he rudely shoved the buzzer at my mother, I said we will not be eating there as he was so
rude. There are many places with friendly staff close by. *our visit was in the middle of winter which is not their busy season, barely anyone was there and their book had very few reservations*

We called for a reservation and got lucky, filling a cancellation that had just called in. You do need a reservation! The very crowded bar area was filled with people waiting, or perhaps many just drinking. It appears to be the place to be! We got a lovely table in the back porch dining room. It was perfect. Service was prompt and nice. My only regret was ordering the prime rib rather than about 10 other items on the menu that looked delicious. It was a tasty dish but not as tender as I had expected. Maybe that’s my problem rather than theirs. But we enjoyed the dinner nevertheless.

Great service and a good old fashioned to start things off. It didn’t have that classic supper club feel but more of a nice restaurant vibe. Tables were stacked up, so it’s a popular spot. The shrimp tempura was just okay, but I had the roasted duck in cherry sauce. The duck was cooked perfectly—tender and all—but the chef was playing it a little too safe with the seasoning. Both my spouse and I felt our meals were lacking in flavor, even though they were cooked right. Definitely had to give the salt shaker a workout. Prices are typical for DC.

Probably Door County's 'best' restaurant. Everything is prepared well. Steaks are good but exceptional are menu items including whitefish, blackened salmon, cherry sauce duck .. just everything. What a busy place!!! You always need a reservation even in winter months. This is a steady performer.

Service was top notch, our waitress was professional and efficient,
Making a reservation does not mean you get in at the reserved time. You are given a puck.
The food was prime rib king cut. The medium rare was rare.. mushy and no horseradish.
The beans were chewy and rubbery.
The atmosphere was ok.
The company, fantastic.
I'll try again.. but only for local

Love, love, LOVE Alexander's. We go to Door Co every year for a girls trip and this was our first time trying out Alexander's. The vibe in the restaurant is cozy (dark lighting but the windows bring in nice natural light). Service is fantastic -- our waitress was Claudia who was absolutely incredible!!! She was so knowledgeable, friendly, sweet, and fun. You can tell she's a wonderful human and loves her job. Our appetizer came out super quick. Main entrees were delivered promptly and hot! All food and drinks were delicious. I guess the only "negative" is that we had a reservation, arrived 5mins before the reservation time, and still had to wait 15mins after our reserved time. But there is a bar area at the front where we grabbed a drink and waited. Although I wish we were seated right away, everything else was SUPERB so that outweighs the short wait we had. Plus we loved Claudia. Can't wait to come back!

I would like to start off by saying I’m only posting this hoping to get the caterers attention. I am not trying to tell people this is not a good place or not to eat here. From the other reviews it seems very good.
I inquired about catering a May 2025 wedding over a month ago and have yet to hear back. I get its door counties busy season and this place seems very busy. However if you are going to offer catering you should at-least respond unavailable to your online inquiries. I couldn’t even call to ask about catering because the number on the website doesn’t work.

Ok, I am going to be very critical because this is the best restaurant in Door County so I expect the best. So the bad, ok not so bad. The beans were delicious, but there were stems left on some of them. Some complained that the crème brûlée was too thin in body and crust. I thought it was fine. My step daughter thought the cheese cake a bit dry. The good. The chocolate peanut butter torte was amazing, the kids portion of the pasta, huge and excellent. My perch, wonderful. The service, from refilling the water glasses to overall attentiveness, outstanding. Their policy of seating to service capacity is to be applauded. I will continue to be a regular customer.

We had a reservation for 7:45pm and finally received our main course at 9:45pm. My steak and vegetables were cold. The shrimp was over cooked and the noodles were not al dente. I would have ordered dessert but who knows how long that would have taken. If you have a large party you will likely get better service.

I received a call confirming our reservation several hours before the dining room was open. t's definitely a 5-star restaurant with experienced servers and a full menu. If you are just stopping for a cocktail (French martinis are my favorite), don't overlook the Tuna Appetizer and Baked Brie (could also be enjoyed following a meal).
Our filets were delicious, and even the 9 and 13 year old devoured theirs.
Make reservations which are taken during the day.

I’ve been coming up to Door County for 25 years and ate at Alexander’s when they first opened. My boyfriend and I stopped in last month and I was reminded how great this place is! We ate at the bar and Bartender Jason made our night! We ordered a few cocktails and started chatting with Jason and a few others sitting near us. Before we knew it, they announced last call for the kitchen so we ordered. It was a Tuesday night so it was Cold Water Australian Lobster Tail special night. We both ordered the lobster and filet combo and it was delicious! The lobster tails were huge and the filets were tender and perfectly cooked! We are from Chicago and I would put this meal up against any high-end Chicago restaurant. Awesome service, delicious food and good people!

We certainly enjoyed a Saturday dinner here. Started off with a drink in the bar - more of a serve yourself (stand at bar waiting for bartender to see you) vs table side service. Maitre d was very welcoming, server (Romeo) was very attentive as was gentleman filling water glasses. Prime rib was amazing, sides fair, lobster bisque soup could have had some chunks vs just creamy, desserts were delicious and rich

After reading great reviews, we decided to go here for dinner on our first night in Door County.
The bar area was extremely busy and the overall atmosphere was really nice. Beautiful building and grounds. Service was good: waitress was attentive and polite. As for the food, we were not impressed. My sons ordered the Tuna appetizer and said it was overcooked. Salads were good. My son had Lobster Bisque and didn’t finish it because he said it was so bland. For entrees, none of us were overly impressed. Duck was also overcooked, steak was good but rice side was undercooked, and the pasta dish was just ok. For the amount they charge, there are better places to go in Door County.

We’ve dined here 4 times in the last few years, each time we’ve had a delicious meal. Three times we’ve had a kind waiter named Romeo who has been so attentive. The food is always fresh, hot and beautifully plated. The bar drinks are a bit skimpy on the pours, but bar staff are friendly and responsive. Always a fun crowd in the bar, nice gathering place fir locals and tourists alike.

I can only give this a one star based on the fact that they are discriminatory against single diners. They require single diners to take a 5 o'clock reservation only. Any other dining time you're interested in as a single diner, you have to sit at the bar to eat, and you have to take your chances if that's even available. They will not take later reservations for single diners, which is pathetic since a lot of people travel alone. I was easily able to get a single dining reservation at other restaurants in Door county. I would suggest skipping Alexander's.

We visited on a busy Friday night and squeezed our party of two in without a reservation, but we’d strongly recommend a reservation during the busy summer hours.
We had the Tenderloin Gorgonzola and Chiopino dishes. The tenderloin was a quality piece of meat and was in a tasty sauce, although the sauce was a bit generous.
The Chiopino was packed with seafood! It’s a large, hearty dish. Slightly spicy, but not too heavy.
Bruce’s Crostini bread is amazing!!
We definitely recommend if you’re looking for a nice dinner in the area.

Alexander's had an amazing Cinco de Mayo celebration today! All you can eat Mexican inspired buffet from 12:00 noon till 5:00pm for $20.00 per person at the door, first come, first served. It was a huge hit. The lamb stew was just one of the delicious offerings. Steak/pork/chicken and ground beef tacos, burritos, chicken fajitas, Spanish rice, green noodles refried beans, and homemade guacamole were some of the selections. +6$ Margaritas! 🍹 Viva Mexico!

Fantastic meal, great food, great service, nice atmosphere. First time dining at Alexander’s and we will definitely be back. We started with the Baked Brie appetizer and it was truly a work of art in terms of its presentation and was delicious. Brie in a puff pastry with apples, strawberries, blackberries and lingonberries. Served with French bread. Did I mention it could have been a meal by itself.
We had the lobster bisque which was fine, but nothing special. For entrees we had the Tenderloin Gorgonzola with a Cabernet reduction which was amazing in every respect, flavor, tenderness, preparation, it was perfect and an absolute bargain. It was a good as any steak I’ve had and I’ve eaten at some of the best steakhouses across the U.S.. The other entree was a Filet Oscar which was equally perfect.
Too full to have dessert, so can’t comment on it. What we saw on other tables looked delicious though.
Service was outstanding, attentive and unobtrusive. Everyone we encountered were friendly and seemed committed to providing a great experience.
I cannot recommend this place enough. Just go and enjoy.
