My first time here. Great location, small historic building. Everything went downhill once we walked in the door. Miserable bartender, with a bad attitude! Waited close to 1 hour ,no problem, it was busy. Ordered Weiner Schnitzel, and Walleye. Delicious clam chowder, but the Schnitzel was tough and chewy, Walleye was fishy. Thanks but no thanks.This will be my last time to dine here.

On Friday, August 15th, around 5 p.m., we decided to grab a drink at the bar before the dinner rush while waiting for our table. We were seated within 20 minutes, and our table server was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch her name. Our appetizers, dinner, and desserts were all excellent.

However, the bar experience was a letdown. Our bartender, "Zenna/Zinna," wasn’t very friendly or approachable when we ordered drinks. There was no smile or welcoming demeanor—just short, curt interactions that suggested she wasn't too happy to be there. It didn't feel inviting as customers.

Despite the bar experience, we'll be back, hoping for a more positive vibe next time.

First time at Alpine. Found the atmosphere relaxing and the entertainment from the bar was outstanding. There are 3 large windows looking out into a wooded area. There were at least 10 well fed squirrels and several large rabbits. After awhile, 6 large tom turkeys came scurrying down the hill, scattering the squirrels and rabbits. Shortly after, we were called to our table and enjoyed a great meal. My lady had lightly breaded pan fried walleye which was very tasty and I had the beer battered cod. The meal was served with crackers and cheese spread followed with a choice of clam chowder or salad. The fish and frys were hot when served. Definitely a place we will return to.

Came to enjoy dinner with husband. Alpine Retreat holds many wonderful memories for us. Food quality never disappoints. BUT super disappointed with noise volume. It was outrageously loud. We ate in silence at our table for two because it required shouting across the table. Everyone was shouting to hear. Couldn’t wait to get out. Think OSHA could have measured the noise and determined it harmful. Feel sorry for the wait staff.

We went there on a recommendation.I was told that the steak was excellent .The atmosphere was as expected. Had to make reservations weeks ahead. My wife had the fillet and lobster and the other meal was a ribeye. I ordered the ribeye medium and it came very rare and very fatty. I refuse to send food back anywhere. It’s a trust thing. Took the steak home. Surf and turf was good. The dinner was around $100 plus tax. Not bad. Servers were very attentive. I would go back, but not for steak.

Haven’t been here for a year or so and boy has it gone down hill. Had the wiener schnitzel and it was a terrible cut of meat. Could only make it through half the plate as the meat was all grizzle which speaks to a lower cut of meat. Price isn’t the issue since I’d be happy to pay more for something worth eating but paying anything for this quality makes you feel like you’ve gotten taken. Another example of why I stay home and cook these days since it’s hard to find decent food out anymore. As an aside we briefly thought about dessert but the table behind us ordered carrot cake as we got dinner and we heard them tell the waitress it was the worst they have ever had. Won’t be back and will let people know to avoid eating here.

Went for Saturday evening with my wife. We have gone here several times in the past and the food is usually good. Ordered the special prime rib medium rare. It was absolutely the worst steak I have ever had. Not just the worst prime rib, the worst steak period. Not only was it undercook, it was tough and stringy. I'd give more than five stars if I could. The food is spectacular and the weekly specials are innovative and always on point. Their soup this week was Cream of Almond. I was intrigued and gave it a try - it did not disappoint. From the servers to the bartenders, you couldn't ask for a finer group of people to enhance your dinner experience. A stop at the bar before or after dinner gives you a wonderful view of the local wildlife through their picture windows, enjoy an ice cream drink with the after dinner view.

Wife & I went there for my Birthday. First time there though, my wife has been there before. Small sort of place. Heard that it was a old barn many years ago. Walls are old field stones with old timbers and plaster for the ceiling. Main dining area probably has about 12 tables while the bar has a couple high tops. Bar area has windows that look out on a small pasture that has turkey's walking about. Dinner was one of the best that I have had in a long time. Steak filet was so,so tender you could almost cut it with a fork. Waitress was exceptional and I told her that after dining. I highly recommend Alpine Retreat to anyone looking for fine dining. Will be back in the future. Also dress is casual.

I have really come to love the Alpine Retreat! I especially love coming a bit early to sit at the bar and watch the deer, Turkey and other wildlife just feel outside the bar windows❤️. They have some great specials Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for only 15.99 that were spectacular. One from our group had the meatloaf and the other had the Chicken Parm, and they were both very pleased! So tasty and good! I ended up ordering the steak and shrimp (which I’ve ordered before) and it was tasty as ever! This place is so quaint and cozy. The bartender and staff were friendly and entertaining and quick to take care of our needs. It’s one of our favorite places to go for a nice evening out.

This was my first time to this quaint and rustic place. We arrived early (5 PM) and by the time we left every table in the dining room was filled. The sauerbraten was delicious, better than some German restaurants in southeastern Wisconsin. The soups and desserts are all homemade. The staff is friendly and helpful. On a second visit I tried the very popular Friday fish fry. There is quite a selection of fish prepared in different ways from which to choose, plus potato pancakes as an option. My only criticism is the lack of beer on tap.

Amazing experience from start to finish! A lovely woman took our reservation over the phone and was so friendly and lovely when we arrived. The bar is adorable- we could see a tom turkey walking in front of the windows right when we walked in! Our server was also so friendly and attentive! The food was absolutely amazing!!! Came here with my husband a few days ago for some drinks. The bartender was immediately so friendly, and talkative, which we love. Drinks were delicious, and bartender, I believe his name is Marco, was incredibly kind to us.
We made another trip tonight to try the food and WOW! Amazing service, and delicious food! We tried the restaurant nearby called Fox and Hound before this place. I am not giving fox and hound a bad review, but this place was so so much better. Better food for a better price point, who can complain?!? Fantastic location. The small dining room did get kind of loud, it was fine for the 2 of us, but if we were going out with another couple to, "catch up," conversation at times would have been a little difficult without having to talk really loud, that said, we will definitely return.

We were there this past weekend for our first time due to the great reviews, and as much as we wanted to really love it, food was really subpar. Prime rib was average at best. Wife had the French Pepper steak. The cut of meat was horrible and could barely cut through it with the steak knife, and couldn't even taste the pepper or garlic due to being so heavily over salted. I think literally every employee greeted us, asked us how our meal was, or had a short conversation with us. The bartender Bob was snarky & fun, Sara our server was attentive & helpful. It was cozy and the food was very good. The hostess was very friendly, but the bartender not as much. It was a little noisy since the room was small, so I had a hard time hearing the specials.

Excellent fish fry, shockingly reasonable kids menu and great drinks! New ownership kept the inside charm looking the same as it did when I was in last 30 years ago.. Ira the goose may be long gone but I definitely won't be waiting another 30 years to go back...

Had a FANTASTIC first visit, a great birthday dinner. I had the surf & turf and was done absolutely perfectly, I wish I knew our servers name because she was super friendly and fast.
