I'll be quite frank. This is the BEST Indian Food I have ever had in Madison, the aromas, the textures, the varieties of Vegetarian and Meat dish options they offer on their weekend buffet is stellar. The atmosphere is lively with all the ppl sitting down and enjoying their food. By the bar, you can see a wide-screen tv with Cricket being played; Indians love their cricket and I thought it was really neat for them to show their love for one of their favorite sports.

Despite the atmosphere and food being stellar, I really wish the service was better. We may have had an unlucky bad waiter, he cleared the plates, but we had left a fork on the plate, so he asked us if we still were using it. We replied yes, so to our surprise, he just tossed it on our table like he was throwing a bone to a dog. It was quite bizarre. You would normally just gently set it back on the table, but it was definitely intentional cuz he didn't say excuse me or I'm sorry. Maybe the waiters can try and acquire some western etiquette, if you want us to come back. The service was nonexistent. The waiters just do their job and nothing more, no '"How's your day?" or "How is the food?" not even a '"Would you like more water?"The cashier was very nice to us, but maybe that's because i gave em a $20 tip for a table of 3. Let's be honest the food was worth that much, it was that good. I'll come here again, but if the service is bad, we'll probably scrap this place.

Great food and service! I came in at 4:30 when they opened for dinner service and was blown away by the tastes and flavors. I got spicy chicken 65 and spicy chicken vindaloo and the chillies naan and I left with a full belly and a smile! The papadum and chutneys at the beginning are delicious and mango ice cream after tops off a delicious meal. Absolutely will be returning!

One of the best Indian restaurants in Madison, Wi I’ve discovered recently. The curry was properly spicy and full of authentic flavor. They also offer a great variety of Indian beers at very reasonable prices.

If you’re nearby, it’s definitely worth a visit. I only wish the menu had photos—it would help a lot when choosing dishes.

On another note, the service here is phenomenal. I placed a doordash pickup order and someone had taken my order by mistake. Upon notifying the staff, they remade my whole order (which was quite large) within 10 minutes on the spot. Very respectful and again, the food is delicious!

I had a pickup order that was supposed to be ready by 7:30, but I waited until 7:50. The waiter didn’t seem to care at all we were clearly waiting, and I asked him a couple of times, but he didn’t respond. The manager didn’t seem to care either; they looked at us as if they were doing us a favor by giving us the food.

The exact same thing happened when I went there with my cricket team. Our bill was around $300, and we received the same poor treatment.

As an Indian myself, I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant.

Good Indian restaurant. I wish we would have gone during the buffet. The little cracker dish they give you as an appetizer is really good.
Our wait staff was quite attentive except I had to wait for a refill on my iced tea. They presented our dishes with quite a flourish it seemed and one of the dishes got lost in translation so my sister who wanted mild ended up with medium and didn't even notice. Just a note, the mild is very mild with no spice, no heat to it. So if you'd like a little spice I would suggest getting the medium.

Amber is my favorite Indian restaurant in Madison. The food is truly exceptional! Everything I've ever had here is delicious. I especially love their Paneer Butter Masala and Chicken Tikka Masala. Amber is a great option for Indian for those with tree nut allergies. Most of the common curries typically made with cashew at other restaurants are made nut-free by default. Staff are great at accommodating questions around allergens and distinguishing between peanut and tree nut allergies. Be aware that as far as I know, peanut oil is used in some dishes.

Amber is widely known as the best Indian restaurant Madison has to offer, and for good reason.

The service — amazingly fast. I was in, ordered, and paid the check well within 35/45 minutes. Usually, this would mean the food was made quickly or poorly, but that’s not the case here at all. Speaking of,

The food — outstanding. One of the only restaurants to get the spice level just right to the point that it can be appreciated but doesn’t overpower the taste. I ordered a vegetable samosa, garlic naan, kadai paneer, and kheer. The samosa was tasty, but could have been a little bit crispier. The naan, on the other hand, was some of the best I’ve had. Indian food is make-or-break based on the bread, and the naan was just perfect here. The kadai paneer was, similarly, just as good. The paneer was just the right firmness while the gravy was full of flavor, and the vegetables tasted fresh. The kheer was likewise just as good, and while my mom’s is sweeter (lol!), it was just amazing.

The price — all of that came out to just $28. That’s correct. On top of great service, flavor, and portion sizes so big that I easily have two more meals I can get out of it (broke college kids stand up), the value from this restaurant was surprising given how good the food was.

This may be the only restaurant I can confidently give a 5/5 to, it’s truly a gem in the area and it will be the prime Indian cuisine recommendation I make to those interested.

Have been going to Amber for several years and my family and I have yet to be disappointed. All of the dishes on the menu that we’ve ordered have always been great and prepared to spice satisfaction.

My mother prefers vegetarian and they have ample options on their menu - she particularly loves the options that have a lentil base. Great dishes with good flavor even though she prefers the mild ones.

Other menu items I’ve ordered include the Chicken Mango and the Lamb Curry - both are great choices. I think the fruit blends in their curries are done very effectively and the sugar doesn’t overpower the dish.

The wait staff have always ensured outstanding service - it’s prompt and polite. I almost hate to say it but we’ve become so regular that a few members of the staff can recognize us on sight. Love the hospitality and planning many more visits to Amber.

The food is just not good. Everything is lacking spices and salt and the dishes are too cream heavy. We tried the chana bhatura, chicken appetizer, and paneer 65. The apps were mediocre at best. I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I went with my family, expecting a nice hot meal.The waiter aggressively promoted the buffet and was reluctant to show us the menu until I agreed to consider it. I expressed concerns that the buffet might not be suitable for my kids, who don’t eat much, but the waiter insisted it would be worth it and assured me that kids’ pricing was lower.

My older child chose the buffet, as the buffet price for kids matched the menu items, and I also decided to go for the buffet. However, when we received the bill, we were shocked to find price for adults were charged for him. Upon inquiring, I was informed that the restaurant’s age limit for kids is 10. My son is 11.Since most places have a limit of 12, I didn’t think to verify this beforehand. Additionally, the waiter did not make this clear either.

The food was cold and unappetizing , with some items seeming like they were straight from the fridge. My younger child’s dosa came with cold chutney and sambar, which was very disappointing. None of us finished our meals, and we all experienced stomach issues for a few days afterward. Given the high price and poor quality of both food and service, I chose not to leave a tip. I would not recommend this restaurant based on this experience.

This was my first time at an Indian restaurant and it was an incedible experience.

On the inside, the restaurant is large and has plenty of seating. The host seated us right away.

I was initially nervous I wouldnt be able to discern the item on the menu (since I wasn't familiar with Indian cuisine) but I was pleasantly surprised that everything listed had a detailed description of what it was.

In addition, the menu clearly labeled items that were grilled, lightly fried or deep fried. As someone who is very health-concious, this was greatly appreciated.

The menu notes which items have bone. Though it was exciting to eat a tradition dish with the bone, next time I would go with a dish without bone. A lot of my dish was bone with very little meat and at times, it was difficult to eat.

Service was consistent throughout the duration of the meal.

We ordered the tawa fish as an appetizer and the fish was perfectly cooked with an incredible blend of spices.

I got goat curry and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the meal.

They brought us mango ice cream at the end of the meal and it was delicious.

I would highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely return.

I wouldn't recommend ordering pick up for sure. the owner is present and is extremely dismissive unless you know him personally. both times (I always try twice before I make a judgement) the staff was uninterested in helping me get my order, shooed me off to wait (45 mins past my pick up time mind you) and ignored me completely. Got delivery. Nan bread was advertised as bogo but I only received one order. The chicken 65 was the worst fried chicken I have had anywhere. Not only was there no holes in the container for venting to keep fried food crisp they wrapped it in plastic warp. Soggy fried chicken is disgusting

Visited this after a long time. Enjoyed their buffet. The spread is extensive with so many dishes on the buffet. One thing which I like at Amber is their size (serving size e.g. kebabs or samosas) of some of food, it's so perfect that you can try all of their items. Surprisingly the taste is maintained over the years now which makes you visit this place more often. If you like indian food then this is the place you must try

Had lunch at Amber and enjoyed the diversity of options! Our waiter, originally from Goa, gave us some excellent recommendations to enjoy the best of Goan cuisine. Lots of dishes you don’t typically see at Indian restaurants in the U.S. Food was phenomenal – so many delicious flavors from sour to spicy to savory. Can’t wait to go back on my next visit to Madison.

Woo hoo, the Buffet is back!!! Soooo delicious! Maybe I just missed it a lot, but everything tasted even better than I remembered it, and the chicken tikka masala was spectacular. Huge variety to choose from. Prices are up from pre-Covid, but I expected that. It was hopping busy, so a bit noisy, but not too loud to have a conversation. Friendly and attentive staff. Cash discount.

We love Amber. The service is always awesome and the food is amazing. We're regular enough that we are recognized now by the staff 😅

Favorites are the shami kebab, any type of naan, shahi korma (spicy), lamb spinach, and lamb biryani. We keep wanting to try different things but those dishes are so good I always want to order them! We enjoy dining in; the service is super fast. We always have so many leftovers it's enough for several more meals.

Amber is a regular stop for us and will continue to be a place we go back to again and again. We love the food and the kind staff.

Despite what's stated on the website, there's no lunch buffet, which is super frustrating. The staff don't seem overly concerned that customers show up to find the restaurant website is misrepresenting what they offer.

Few hours after I landed in Chicago, we drove straight to Amber for Biryani. Extremely disappointed with the way both of our orders were prepared, both Dum-Biryani and Pan-Briyani were not up to any basic expectations.
Both myself and my friend were extremely disappointed by the lack of curiousness in their service and the abundance of masala flavour the Briyani. The Chili chicken we ordered was good, really good.
The person who attended us to settle the bill amount was straight-face and rude.

I’m sorry, I didn’t see any sort of commitment in service and in meal prep. The three stars were because the Chilli chicken was good and ONLY one of the waiting staff was polite.

The Chicken Tikka Masala was so so EXCELLENT!! And so was the Garlic Naan and the glass of wine!!! The restaurant was set up well for social distancing, nice ambiance, very good service. It was a busy night. The server/cashier/bartender/take out person juggled a whole lot of things by himself. He did an amazing job. With all of that, we had really good service and the food came right away.

Ehinic Indian restaurant , masala dosa was very good with sambar I had amazing.And we ordered thanoori chicken , chicken tikka masala and garlic naan.hydrabedi chicken briyani was amazingly delicious .pure hydrabadi awesome briyani this can full fill for 2 portions .this amber have really the quality and quantity of portions really enjoyed thank u amber.And I want to meed with the chef . They made it happen . The chef is so polite and he ask me to enjoy our food . Good service and friendly.
