Four of us dined here for a late lunch. Service took quite awhile because they were short staffed. All of our meals were good. Our waitress did her best and was friendly while they were also short staffed. She did her best.
Here is the one star atmosphere rating reason and I wish I could give it zero....
This restaurant is gross! There is definite water damage and black stains in ceiling panels.just look up and you will see them! The womens' bathroom was disgusting and smelled of septic beyond belief and was not clean at all. There were puddles of water on the tile in the restaurant area where people walked through, which could be very slippery. Food messes were all over the place and you could tell that nothing had been sprayed/sanitized and wiped down for a long time. I have gone to many Applebee's over the years and they always have clean everything and good management. Someone needs to clean clean clean it and also look at all the water damage which will lead to black mold and more. I would not recommend going here at all. Don't know how they can stay open like that.

Arrived at this location at 4:45 p.m. with my wife I want to use the restroom handicap stall it was ridiculously bad I came back and told my wife about the restroom she has to speak to the manager who is very pleasant and got a staff member to clean the restroom which they did have to accompany my wife had a booth we noticed that more people were coming in and there was no greeter apparently they were severely understaffed in some departments mind you we hated this same location a week ago and once had to send back the food because it was not prepared correctly a different manager agreed at that time and got things handled and we continue with our dining experience at that point it was not the best but we made it work because we were hungry we got food to go after eating just the advertisers however on this visit because we enjoy the particular dish and the special that was going on that's why we went back in the first place this time around like I mentioned before the restroom issue the slow service but then the food came out and I had ordered like my wife parmesan chicken over fettuccine with Alfredo sauce My chicken was completely burnt The manager agreed that took the plates away we then had been there for over an hour we decided after having one beer and my wife having two drinks let's order to go since the food had not come out yet we have to start waitress to have everything packed to go which meant we were kind of scared that something could potentially be done to the food but we trusted in the Lord that our food will be not harmful to us keep in mind last week when we visited that was a $70 visit this time around with drinks and tip and we ordered a dub of portion of food for both of us to go put us in the close to $90 range we were fine until the waitress came out and told us that due to a language barriers with people in the back it was difficult for her and please be patient she told us directly that the cooks in the back said if we send back another order they don't want us to come back to that location anymore we continue to wait on the order to come out so we can take it to go it finally came now we're pushing closer 2 hours at this establishment and all we did was come to eat and at that point remember all we had was two drinks one beer and a order of onion rings I was basically exhausted behind the bathroom situation the long Wait for food we think our wages tipped her well got her name which is Nykeria, we thank her very much for her time she spent getting everything corrected even the bill was incorrect based on we got there just before happy hour starting at drinks more price differently and happy hour didn't they wear after happy hour was over My wife lost it discrepancy of the deal on The Price of the drinks again are we just got that all taken care of we were very peeved at the fact that we're the customer within two weeks spending $150 in this location easy and then finding out that we're going to be told not to come back to the location by the cooks not the waitress staff not the manager the cooks we will never visit this location again I really want to give them a one star but I will leave my ratings as they stand I'll advise you if visiting this restaurant check the restroom first be prepared to wait a long time on your food check and receipt for discrepancies Applebee's at your own risk the commercial with Coach Dan Campbell of the Lions is what got us interested in either visiting this location it's the only one in Madison Wisconsin and we're used Detroit Lions fans by advise you be careful with this restaurant Applebee's East Town drive Madison Wisconsin

I usually don’t leave reviews but today was a very horrible experience. I walked into the restaurant and after waiting a few minutes to be seated I proceeded to seat myself, only then did someone come to the door and tell me only 2 servers are working and I could only sit in one section of the restaurant.

4 employees sat at the table next to me complaining about everything from pay to bad customers to work environment and how they don’t get to hang out at work.

Ordered chips and cheese dip or should be called cardboard the taste was so bad I stopped eating it. Got my meal, took a few bites and I could just tell the food was off. I asked for my bill, paid in cash and left. Most disgusting restaurant food I have ever been served along with really crappy service.

7/19/25 Amazing hostesses but Cadence G ignored us completely. My husband after a twenty minute wait went to the bar and got our drinks. The bartender found our 2 waiters and in awhile our order was in. We watched people leave without being served. There were 2 of us we would have left but , I was struggling with my leg issue and my cane wasn’t helping. This person should not be training anyone!

Every time I go, the experience and service have been very good. But today I was at the restaurant with my family. When we arrived, most of the tables were dirty, and they couldn't find a seat for us. When we finally got a table, they kept us waiting at our table for over five minutes while the staff smoked outside, and the waitress chatted with others and never came to take our order. We got up and left. It's a shame, because I really like eating there. It was a very bad experience.

typically I don’t leave negative reviews but my recent experience really compelled me to write something. I recently had a nice lunch with my family and our waitress was Caitlyn. We typically love eating at the location but our waitress ruined our recent experience. As soon as we sat down and ordered, she began showing signs of trying to rush us. 5 min after ordering she stopped by to tell us our food would be out shortly. My wife was first to begin speculating that she was trying to rush us but I scoffed it off because I typically give the benefit of the doubt. 5 min after recieving our main dish, she came either the bill and left. Didn’t ask for drinks dessert or whatever. I began to get annoyed because she asked cash or card when still had half my burger left. We began rushing due to the environment she was creating. Funny enough she sat down in the booth next to us, was speaking loud to another waiter, and said to him that we were her last table and wanted us to leave soon. At that point when she came over, I gave her my card but told her I needed to transfer over money first. she then began to ignore me, walk off with my card and then had the nerve to announce to me and the neighboring tables that I did not have enough money on card. I rudely answered her she didn’t give me time to transfer and to try again. The lunch ended and we went out separate ways. Only for me to find out through my bank that she ran my card 3 times and instead of paying the $31 I owed, over $90 was taken from my account cuz it was charged three times. disputing it with my bank but seriously considering not going to Applebees anytime in the future

I have to let you know how outstanding our server, Betty is! She is amazing! She bartends, serves, and almost every time I am in here she is the ONLY person. I took my 2 sisters and 2 daughters here last night and was very disappointed. They forgot to bring me my food while everyone else had their food. I had to track down a different server after 20 mins to ask about where my food was. They told me it was just sitting back there and they forgot to bring it out. So Applebees had this new (at least new to me) cream soda. It was a mountain dew berry soda with whipped cream on it, and there were a couple of other flavors offered like Pepsi believe. It was extremely yummy. I then proceeded to order some of the wings to share with my partner, they were honey bbq flavored, and then ordered a chicken cesear salad for my entree. The food was what you expect from Applebee's in my opinion: okay. It was very good for its price and its good old faithful when you want something quick and good!

Attempted to eat there tonight. Went in about 8pm. It was somewhat busy but there were tables available. Waited at the door to be seated but no one came to greet us. Stood there waiting for about 5 minutes and another couple arrived behind us. There was someone that looked to be a manager talking to some people at a table near the door but she never looked out way. I could see plenty of workers from where I stood but no one acknowledged us at the door. They need to do better. I wouldn't be surprised if this one closed down too.

Waited at the door 20 minutes and were never even spoken to. The restaurant was Not busy. I would estimate around 20 to 25% of tables were occupied. Waved at 2 different servers and someone who stood behind the bar fir a brief moment and they all ran the other direction. No one would say hello, or be with you soon, or anything. Finally tracked someone down who said she told someone 30 minutes ago it would be a bit if a wait. I believer her, since I saw 3 groups walk out as they were unwilling to wait without even being greeted. I assume that whomever she spoke with was one of those groups. I understand being short staffed or busy. I am far less understanding if being blatantly rude.

I went to Applebee's about a year or so ago and really enjoyed it and the food. This year I went for my birthday dinner with my family and the menu had completely changed and The selection was not great. My local family diner has a larger selection than this Applebee's.
I believe they must have been short-staffed because we waited a very long time for drink refills, food orders, the bill, etc.
We started out with the spinach and artichoke dip and got the bottom chips from the bag so they were all tiny and crumbled up and didn't scoop up the dip. We weren't able to finish it for lack of chips.
The Southwest bowl was pretty well flavored.
The mac and cheese had no flavor at all and the sweet and spicy chicken tenders were very sweet with no spice. This dish is not recommended.
The portion size for the grilled maple bacon chicken and cheesy broccoli was very small. It left me unsatisfied. It tasted great though.
The blackened salmon was requested with only a little black and it came with no black.
The Alfredo pasta with sausage was apparently okay.
The birthday Sundae at the end was YUMMY.
Someone left us an origami crane. I thought I'd include a photo of it. We left it for the next customer.
I don't think any of us will be going back.

Came in yesterday with a group of 10 people the hostess was incredibly rude, didn’t smile, looked miserable, didn’t greet us either. We waited over 10 minutes, finally was seated. Our waitress was a Hispanic lady, at first we didn’t even know who are waitress was because she didn’t sit us down at the table the hostess did. Waitress was somewhat rude...we sat down before 5pm and I asked for the 1/2 price appetizer, she said they stopped that at 5pm...when I said we were here before 5pm, she said the people before us ordered at 5:01pm, and we sat down late. The appetizer we got was the pretzel with beer cheese, that was good...my husband's meal, was a bacon cheeseburger with fries, the bun was burnt, burger was dry, too spicy...fries were cold....my meal was the shrimp parmesan steak, and surprisingly it was actually good... we probably won't be back...

My family and I are here for my son as he got a huge surgery recently so we took our son out to eat as a “good job” meal.

I cannot thank Betty enough for the service she provided. She was the kindest soul yet. As a bartender, service is key, and she nailed it. She made us feel at home, and treated my son like a king.

The food was also fantastic, came quickly and was absolutely delicious.

There was also a gentlemen in a packer shirt who my son absolutely adored. Thank you for all your kind words, and offers.

We went to this applebees for a lovely evening. We were served by Joey who did a fabulous job, he was attentive and kind while also managing the bar/making drinks. My favorite part was the boo-ze bucket. 👻 👽 🎃 Joey was fabulous!

My husband became ill after he ate there on Friday. I stopped by to talk with the manager about and he refused to admit the Oriental Salad was bad. I never have met such a rude manager in my life. My husband was admitted overnight to the hospital after our emergency room visit. I just needed to see if someone else became ill he said nothing was wrong with the food told me to leave and not come back. Why would I? The one emergency visit was enough

Upon arriving was seated at a table by the hostess and the table was very sticky after appearing to be just wiped prior to being seated. Ordered the 2 for 25 meal special; The Fiesta lime chicken and the American burger with fries. Fries were dry. Fiesta lime chicken rice was dry. The spinach and artichoke dip had something in it that was foreign. The beverages took forever to get to the table. Did not receive smaller saucers to share appetizers. Wait staff barely checked on table. Somewhat likely not to return there at that location in Madison WI.

On June 3 2024 My card was used by Jasmine the waitress without my permission to pay for her own tips that I did not approve. I called the company Applebees and spoke with the store manager James who after hearing my complaint that my card had been swiped by the waitress Jasmine without my permission called me a liar and hung up the phone in my face. I decided to visit the store in person so that he could not hang up on this situation.
After arriving at the restaurant I spoke with the store manager James. I informed him that I did not give any of his staff permission to swipe my card for any additional tips and that I would be making a Google review on the fraudulent charge allowed by Applebees if he did not rectify the charges. I showed him a copy of my receipt and his staff also found a copy of the receipt that shows the correct amount without the additional tip that the waitress added. At this point the store manager James said that since I made a google review he would leave the fraud without rectifying it. He then turned his back and walked away from me. I am now reaching out to others who can assist with this company getting away with fraud. I also have documented a police report with the state of Wisconsin because James at Applebees and his staff are committing fraud through charging customer cards for additional amounts without consent.

Was made to wait 10 minutes to be seated while the restaurant was nearly empty. Took 15 more minutes to have a server come take out drink order. When the food was brought they forgot two of the dishes and we had to then wait for them to bring those. All this time we were seated in a section that they did not turn the lights on. The lights were finally turned on as we were going to leave and they seated another customer. Worst experience ever and the manager in duty didn't care. For a order of over $100 you would think they would take care of their customers.

Took approximately 30 minutes to be sat, not because they were busy but because no one came to seat us. Only saw 1 person at the bar, who looked at us but didn't come over. No other employees were to be seen.
Took more than 30-40 minutes to get our appetizers, and about another 30 minutes to get our food. Once again, NOT BECAUSE they were busy, but because no employees were were there on the floor.
I was with 3 others and before the food came, I had walked out.
They told us they couldn't take credit or debit cards, NOR cash!?!?!?
I did not go back in. And I will NEVER again return to this restaurant.

We Had Jasmine today. I sat down with 4 rambunctious toddlers and she put our minds to easy. The service was great! The food was great, and I just enjoyed the kids eating and letting me eat. Had the new Caprese Mozzarella Chicken. It was good. Would have liked the garlic mashed potatoes on the side instead of under the other ingredients.

Update 6/12/24: Had the Blackened Cajun Salmon. It was really good. Not to spicy and cooked just right for me. Tried my husband's Bourbon Street Steak it also was spot on!

I ordered a dinner for 4 people for delivery. It arrived on time, but we were missing one entree. I didn't realize that delivery would be from door dash. Nowhere on the Applebee's website does it tell you that they use a delivery service. I caught the driver before he left and he did his best to rectify the situation. After at least 10 minutes on the phone, he told me I would have to call the restaurant. He was a very nice, polite young man and apologized several times.

I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, Missy, who said they would contact Door dash to refund me, since the payment goes to them first. She also blamed the screw-up on the driver. They ran out of the item we ordered and supposedly left a post-it note telling the driver to call us to let us know.

Seems to me the restaurant should be the one to take responsibility for running out of a menu item.

The food that we did get was... eh. Fries were soggy, shrimp was so-so. I wish I had looked at the other reviews before I ordered, definitely would have skipped Applebee's and gone to McDonalds or Popeye's. The food would have been better and would have cost 1/4 of what I paid.

UPDATE: 8 days later and still no refund.

Jasmine, our server, was a delight. Attentive and professional she handled everything with ease. We had come out for a nice, affordable meal and our expectations had been met above and beyond. We did the 2 for $28 deal. The mozzarella sticks were our appetizer, but we added on 2 French onion soups and boy howdy were those tasty! They were the highlight of our dinner! Thank you very much for the nice date night, Jasmine and Applebee's.
