We came on a whim, wanted something we never had, let me say this first and foremost, my lady is eating the French onion soup after the meal, long story short, bread 10/10, salad 10/10, French onion 10/10, white sauce pasta lemon type of Alfredo 10/10, service 10/10, ohhhh baby let me tell you about the spaghetti and meatballs toooo diiieeee forrrr!!! This was our first time visiting this restaurant and it did not disappoint!! Their specials for a Saturday night were baked manicotti and a shrimp dish (both sounded amazing!!) we decided to get the bruschetta and spicy shrimp for appetizers, both were very good! For our entrees we got the Greek chicken salad for me, and a large margherita pizza for my husband and I to share. I absolutely loved the salad, it had more chicken than any salad I’ve ever had before ( in a good way) and the chicken was seasoned perfectly and the dressing was light but still delicious! The margherita pizza was next level! Margherita pizzas are my husband and I’s favorite, so we’ve had plenty from all over, but this one really stood out to us! It had a good amount of basil and mozzarella and we really loved the texture of the semolina flour on the crisped bottom! The atmosphere and service were excellent as well! We definitely will add this into our rotation for date night spots!

This restaurant appears to be in a converted house. Parking in the rear, and you can enter from the back door. seating is tight and somewhat crowded. I was seated next to a family with several kids, who were energetic and and a bit disruptive.

I ordered the Bolognaise, which was amazing. The meal would have benefitted from the bread being warm, but was good regardless.

The food was served quite fresh and hot, so letting it set for a bit is advised. The service was quite quick as well. The server was friendly and checked in without being intrusive.

We held my mother's celebration of life at Avantis. I wasn't sure what I thought at first about the idea, but then we started working with Spencer. He was great. He kept throwing different ideas out on how they could do this or that. It wasn't long before we had a good plan.

The day came to set things up and in true Spencer fashion he was infinitely flexible. Tell me how you want it set it up and we will make it happen.

The food was good, the drinks as well, and Spencer's team kept everything flowing well. What we planned would be an 11-2:00 event, ran from 11:00-5:00 or so and Spencer's team just adjusted as it all unfolded.

I couldn't say enough good things about how well Spencer and his team did! Very well done.

If I could give negative stars I would! This was an experience I was so sad to witness. It was a fish fry Friday night and we got there after 4:30. The bar area was live and seemed fun. The restaurant area on the other side had very few couples seated and we were told that we had to wait nearly 15 mins, we were cool with that.
My mom and I knew that wasn’t too bad, being a Friday “fish fry day”. But the way the service was and the off putting they had towards us was the most uncomfortable. They said that there was only one server and we would have to continue to wait. As we stood there multiple people kept coming in and getting seated right away, along with a server. They had multiple servers in and out of the table, which we all looked at each other and just amazed and puzzled.
We finally got seated and again we sat there and NO one came to help us. Again as others came in and got seated and served right away. We stayed and sat there over 20 mins. Finally got up and no one tried speaking to us as we walked out.
I’ve gone to Verona for over 30 years to visit my gramma and my dad’s side of the family.
This was by far the worst experience!

Went out to dinner when friend tonight and the food was really good. Our waiter, Mark, was fantastic. I had the eggplant Parm and my husband had the manicotti, so good. The management and staff seem very inexperienced in customer service. They have been snarky and unwelcoming at times in the past, but our last experience was the worst, and served to spoil what was meant to be an honorary event for a young grandchild.
Waitress who served us in the end was sweet, but that was after unacceptable rudeness by others.
Bar staff was good and was courteous.
Food: well, a hamburger with only half the bun, bottle of wine was simply plunked on the table with cap on. Not served. Salads mediocre.
Pizza’s good so might buy take out.
Won’t be dining in.
A shame, as I like to support local businesses. Not this one anymore.

My husband and I enjoy Avantis. Although a few months ago we came in for dinner and had an older guy as our waiter. He was crude. Everything about him screamed " I should not be a waiter at Avantis".
We did mention it to the friendly, happy waitress and she had said " yeah, he won't be here long".
Moving on to tonight, we had a drink at bar and then were seated on the "platform/stage" area. And then came along "that guy" with a basket of bread on top of a pizza box fumbling to slide it off onto our table until my husband grabbed it b4 it fell.
We then rcvd water, asked for straws and we rcvd colored, bendy kiddie straws. We placed our order. Our meals came along with more bread. No butter, again. I asked for butter and "he" was surprised we did not get butter the first round. I said , "NOPE..NO BUTTER,
YOU MUST'VE FORGOT" (i said)So then he stated, "oh well, the people before you MUST'VE ate it all"! WHAT???? Dude, you forgot the butter! Quit blaming , own it! If ever we have him as a waiter we will wait for another. He is slow, seems he doesn't like to go out of his way to get anything. The least possible thing he can do, is what he does. Bartenders and everyone else are always great. It's ashame, this guy just doesn't have what it takes to do his job. I believe he may do better in another field of work.(Maybe a stock boy after hours at Walmart? )

I would not be leaving this review if we were not severely disappointed with the food during our last visit. We went to Avantis as my wife used to love the salmon pasta dish, is was her favorite. This time is was her birthday and she chose Avantis. Everything seemed great, our waiter was very nice but we were only one of 3 tables at the time and she kept dragging her feet which became very annoying. We ordered the Bruchetta as an appetizer, which in my experience is typically a cold appetizer (with warm cristini) but here is was served hot with cheese over top???? no, and they gave us a cup with pure balsamic vinegar whereas you typically get a balsamic reduction over the top, is was disgusting.
My wife ordered the soup which was forgotten until we reminded the waitress and our food arrived. My wife of course ordered the salmon pasta dish and she was not happy as it was very soupy and had an overwhelming taste of lemon, she said "this isnt how it tasted before." I ordered the Italian beef and had to ask for my au jus which the waitress forgot. My Italian beef was tough, i couod tell was frozen beef and will never order again. If you are to eat at Avantis dont order anything but pizza, most of the menu is frozen, nothing is fresh. I understand why my family only got pizza as a kid.

I went to this restaurant upon the recommendation of a local person and I have no regrets! I had the Portabello Mushroom Ravioli accompanied by a salad, a slice of lemoncello cake and a soft drink. The meal came with bread with olive oil.

While slightly above the average price range, I found the food very good.

The salad was fresh and house dressing very nice.

The ravioli was flavorful and surprisingly, without being salty, tasty, nestled on a bed of spaghetti. The texture of the pasta was soft and yet al dante enough for a pleasant culinary experience. The mushroom filling of the had a very pleasant firmness to it without being crunchy. The sauce was very nice, tart without being too acidic. The accompanying spaghetti was nice and al dante!

The lemoncello cake was delightful although slightly sweet to my palate (as most cakes are). There was a nice flavor to it and it just melted in my mouth.

Service was great during this quiet time before the dinner crowd came in. I had let the hostess know that I wanted a quiet spot and she placed me in a nice quiet cove. The waitress did not bother me but was there almost immediately when I needed something.

Overall, the prices were somewhat fair for the atmosphere and food quality. I would recommend this place.

So the wife and I don't get a chance to get a date night often. The in-laws live in Verona and offered to watch the kiddos so we could have a Valentine's date. Very disappointed! We had reservations at 5pm. We arrived about 4:50. We went to the host area and waited, the waitresses and hostess saw us, but just left us waiting.it was dead in there, 2ish tables and a habdful of people at the bar. We waited long enough that the bartender (only positive thing) gave us 2 drink chips.

We had an older lady as our waitress. She started off like she was annoyed that we were there. Not friendly at all(she got a little better by the end). She saw the drink chips on our table and her 1st words were, "I can't take those, you can only use those at the bar" I mentioned that the bartender just gave them to us to use. She was snarky and said "whatever, I will take them this time".
Now to the food... we ordered 2 appetizers. Cheese curds and bruschetta. Cheese curds were good, bruschetta didn't have balsamic and wasn't great. Tomato soup not good either. We ordered the 16 oz ribeyes. For $34.99 each we expected a decent one.. they were the thinnest ribeyes I have ever had in a restaurant.(maybe a half an inch thick) very salty as well. My wife ordered medium and it was close, I ordered medium rare and it l came out well done. Not a hint of pink. I added pictures of my 1st and second steak.. My waitress wasn't around but another waitress came over when she saw I was lookkng for our waitress. She agreed it was well done, and took it back. A few minutes later I got the replacement one and it was blue rare. I ate it because I was hungry and waiting too long, but it was cold in the center and very rare. (Their cook has no idea what they're doing).
Overall would not recommend and was a waste for our rare(no pun intended, or maybe it was...) date night.

Seems like a local dive bar type of spot, which normally I love, but not today. Had very strong recommendations from my friends but ultimately was underwhelmed. I was early and had to wait at the bar until more of my party showed up. The bartenders barely paid attention to me, they were spending all their time with "the regulars". They also charged me full price for my wine during happy hour. Or tried to... I saw on the website what the specials were. They just assumed I wouldn't know and tried to charge me full price. They also mixed up wine orders at our table during dinner and tried to pass off the wrong wine as my order. I ordered my favorite wine so I knew it was wrong as soon as I tasted it. The food was not good. Barely any meat in my meal, and just didn't taste good. Mixture of bland and/or way too salty. After such strong recommendations from others I expected much more. I don't get the appeal. We went due to the mostly favorable reviews. The food was really not great. My pizza tasted like frozen pizza and my husband got ravioli served on spaghetti (?). It's American Italian food with overcooked pasta, too acidic marinara sauce (felt like my tongue got burnt). I'm sure all the regulars love it, but if you're a foodie, avoid it. It was my first time at Avanti's & it was wonderful. The nice menu selections include appetizers, salads, entrees, pizza, children & senior portions, desserts & a variety of wines. The historic building showcases its historic posts & tin ceiling beautifully. There is a long bar to sit at to enjoy a cocktail before or after dinner, and the bartenders & servers were all very friendly and service minded. (The hostess, however, on July 7, 2023 evening, was less than friendly / accommodating. Smacking her gum during our entire time there, she neither acted, looked, or dressed as a hostess of this fine establishment. I don't mind the pierced nose ring, but do mind when a teenager chewing gum stares blankly at us from the hostess stand & we have to ask, "Are you the hostess?")
Change out the ungracious hostess & the rest of Avanti's is **TOP NOTCH!**

We walked in starving :-) be aware, entrees come with a side salad. We initially ordered a side salad to help suppress our hunger only to find out when we order our entrees that a salad came with it. Joshua hooked us up and didn't charge us for our initial salad, we appreciated that! I went old school with spaghetti and meatballs, it was good. We had a group of 8 and we were able to be seated at two tables in the bar area by each other. Service, food and drinks were all great as well as the prices.

I had several of the Wisconsin old fashioneds and I really liked them. Also had a "blind Russian" instead of a white Russian and it was good too.

For food, I had the lasagna and some of the ribs that someone else couldn't finish. Everything was really good.

We ordered carry out from here last week and were less than impressed. My daughter's BLT tasted like the bacon was rotten. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli. Here is the description of it straight from the menu "SHRIMP SCAMPI RAVIOLI - 19.99
Ravioli filled with shrimp, spinach and ricotta, topped with sautéed shrimp and Alfredo sauce." I got 4 rubbery shrimp, 3 ravioli, and a hodge-podge of angel hair and fettuccine noodles in alfredo sauce. The noodle were at least edible, but it was like someone just dumped whatever they had leftover in the kitchen to make my dinner. Instead they should have reached out and let us know the dish should have been 86'd and they needed to replace it with something else. At least my partner's lasagna was okay.

This is completely unlike our other experiences here which made it stink all the more.

Had a great time here with some old friends. They know the locals well and remember everyone's name! The lasagna was particularly good, at least four of us had it and the staff couldn't do enough to help.

Took my family to eat at this outstanding Italian restaurant in Verona WI. Loved the decor and feel of the place. Great bar that was full and busy for a Friday night happy hour.
The waiter was terrific, knowledgeable, and attentive.
But the food… I can’t say enough of how great the food was. We had cheese curds (it is Wisconsin haha) bruschetta, manicotti, lasagna, and fettuccini Alfredo.
20 minute drive from Madison WI and you’ll be treated to real Italian.
We will be back to try other items in the very near future.

Not impressive. The fish fry was odd small pieces of cod. The fish was over fried and rubbery. The cheese curds were ok but the red dipping sauce was heavy on onion, garlic, and sugar. If you do eat here eat at the bar. Table service was sacrificed for bar service. For two fish fries, cheese curds, 2 beers, and 2 old fashioned the bill was $61.

Exquisite food, large portions, really love it... Couldn't go with 5 stars due to location challenges and odd delays every time we order takeout. One time they didn't bring the food out for 20 minutes after it was ready... because they couldn't get the receipt to print. I didn't need a receipt but they didn't ask. But, thankfully the food is amazing so it feels worth it regardless.

I’ll give you a five star because I know ratings are important but allow me to vent my frustration. I spent $46 dollars and change on two pizzas to go last night at 5:45pm. A younger pregnant hostess was very friendly both on the phone and in person. However when a woman who was approximately 60 years old and wearing a mask approached me and said, “I’ll take your money”, I was immediately taken back by the rude nature of the comment. I gave her cash at the bar, she returned with my change, did some weird hand thing that I see dealers in a casino do to show their hands were empty and she walked away.

Whatever happened to manners of “I can take care of the bill at the bar if you’d please follow me and THANK YOU after returning with my food + change?!?!

The pizza was great but in two brief interactions with the same person on your staff I was very disappointed.

One of my favorite places to eat in Dane Co. It is run by a wonderful family and they have great management and bartenders! They have a great menu of food that uses family recipes. It is a lively place and a fun Friday happy hour! Prices are reasonable on bar items and food! Wait staff works hard to help you have a great time! Thursday night rib special is a phenomenal deal! The pizza is very good too!

By far the best Italian restaurant in Dane county. Authentic. Classic ingredients. The best red sauce I’ve ever had. Spenc at the bar always hustles and takes care of us. They have daily specials. Daily happy hour with half price apps at the bar. Things here may go a little slower than some are used to, but be patient and enjoy a drink. It will be well worth it.

Tried it due to many recommendations from friends and family, very disappointed. The entire clientele and half of the staff, including the bartender, were maskless. It didn't matter if food or drink was being consumed, nobody bothered to mask.

Regarding the food, the lasagna tasted like a giant pile of garlic. No other discernable flavors, just garlic. The ribs were decent, so that's something, I suppose.

High prices, unimpressive food, no masks. Would not recommend.
