We went for our 4th anniversary dinner! Zoey and Isabella made sure our experience was absolutely perfect. We did the 6 course chef’s tasting menu and I would do it again in a heartbeat. My favorite of the courses was the Hudson canyon sea scallops. An absolutely perfect night!

We loved it! We came in from Chicago for a concert and wanted an elevated experience at a restaurant . Bacchus was just that. Elegant and sophisticated. The cheese plate in the beginning was delicious, the halibut and filet were perfect. The cocktails were well crafted and balanced without being too sweet. The Pinot I had was exactly what I wanted. If we come back in town, we will definitely make this out go to spot.

This restraunt really emphasizes fine dining. Whether it's the waiting staff, decor, or food, the entire experience feels very high class. We celebrated our 5 year anniversary here this weekend and it was an unforgettable experience. The three course dinner was delicious and our wine paired seemlessly. We spent two hours here and it seemed to slip away before a blink. Truly wonderful dinner. Recommend!!

What a wonderful evening. Kudos to the entire team it was very enjoyable. Neal and his assistant/partner may be the best one-two combination in the city. Always attentive without hovering. Great suggestions and very professional. We did both the three course tasting menu and chefs tasting and it was all incredible. The scallops, blueberry salad, octopus and waygu just sublime. Pasta course was amazing and dessert was excellent. Highly recommend the wine pairing.

Starters: potato and leak soup was very bland and needed more dimension and had more plastic in it than I ordered. Ravioli was decent.
Main course: organic chicken was moist for sure but not much flavor. The jus also needed more flavor. Short rib was slightly dry and charred it took over the flavor of the dish.
Dessert: pretty good....
Service was great. Very on top of our needs. Never felt rushed.
Overall when spending a certain amount of money on an experience you should be able to expect all of the components to be there. The current menu is not it.

We went to the restaurant because it had great reviews. But it was not at all. We arrived at 6 p.m. as a group of four. There were three adults and one child. My mother-in-law ordered a tasting menu, and we ordered steaks. The child was given a three-course menu. An hour passed, and we only received a cheese board. After 2:40 hours, we finally received our steaks and chicken. The Australian wagyu steak was burnt and it was served with a sauce, so the taste of the steak was lost. The asparagus was very salty. The waiter decided that my child wanted a second glass of lemonade during the meal without asking. She never consulted with us to bring us hot dishes at the same time, as we ordered different menus. The only thing that was excellent was the wine, as they did not produce it. If you order a passion fruit cocktail, don't order it, they won't bring it. It will be something else. The worst experience.

I loved the name - the Roman god of wine! When I saw the menu, I immediately made a reservation, and it did not disappoint. My husband and I are wine lovers, and we did the 6-course menu with wine pairings. My husband’s not an adventurous eater, but even he loved it! Come hungry!! You will definitely leave happy. The ambiance and service were perfect in every way. The food? Meh. Both of us had the 3 course dinner. I had the ravioli app which was very bland. Main course was salmon and lentils which was ok but the fish was sitting in a watery broth which I thought detracted from the texture. My wife had a salad first course which was just mixed greens, cherry tomatoes and carrot strings - ok but not what you go to a nice restaurant for. She had short ribs which were fatty and had a mushy texture. We both had a wonderful molten chocolate dessert. Overall, just ok.

We treated ourselves to the 6-course chef’s menu for my 60th birthday and it was delightful. Every course was really good and a couple were transcendent (the pork bolognese and the kiwi dessert). But we’ve come to expect delicious food from a Bartolotta establishment. What we didn’t expect is that the music absolutely slapped. Weird thing to mention, I know, But it made such a difference in making it fun rather than stuffy as fancy food can sometimes feel. The playlist had everything from obscure 60s R&B to French electronica to Future Islands. My Shazam got as much use as my taste buds did. It was all really great.

We had a bad experience with Bacchus and I don't think they deserve the 4.7 stars they currently have. For the cost and level of food, the service was quite lacking. We had to wait at the bar for our reservation but nobody paid attention to us there. When we were finally seated at a table, we had to wait yet another 20 or so minutes before anyone came to take our orders. This in spite of me asking for the wine list, which should have hinted for a high bill and should have prompted their staff to take care of us quickly. Our tab was quite high in the end and I just can't make an excuse for the way we were initially treated. I had to go get a waiter's attention to get any service, which was quite embarrassing. The manager then came and instead of apologizing for the wait and poor staff reaction, especially since the place was quite empty for a Saturday night at dinner time, she started asking questions about my brief interaction with the waitress to get any attention. Apparently feedback and not being happy with their lack of service is not something they value at this restaurant. After a brief discussion with no apologies the manager then assigned us a waiter that actually took very good care of us and we ended up having a good time. I will call Bartolotta's management to alert them about the way their staff treated us initially and hope this never happens again to other people.

Overall, great food, service, and experience. Highly recommended. We had a rocky start when our group of ten got seated 45 minutes after our reservation time, but the staff recovered with great service. The owner even came out to check in with us. The foie gras, tempura mushrooms, and cheese plate were standout appetizers. The filet, veal medallion, organic chicken and short rib were excellent. Our Italian exchange student daughter loved the Bolognese. The molten lava cake and sorbets were also great. Our waiter Alan made us feel like we were his only table. Thanks, Bacchus!

Absolutely delicious food. From the amuse bouche to the citrus tart, we were completely satisfied with the taste, texture, appearance, and temperature of the meal. Our order: the apple salad which, alone, will knock your socks off; we loved the perfectly presented and wonderfully prepared black cod. We tried the pecan financier and the citrus tart. Both were fabulous. Go for the tart, first. We had a special meal at this very special Milwaukee restaurant. We wanted to experience Bacchus’ new menu. They knocked it out of the park!

The service here was excellent, too. Our servers, Zoe and Lis gave us helpful guidance regarding our menu choices. I hope you’ll give this place a try. We will be back!!

Food was okay. It's not fine dining in a way that wows you. Service was average. It doesn't help that they called at 8:30 pm, 3 hours after our meal to ask for the receipt to determine tips. The receipt that I left behind on the table which they lost somehow. On the phone, staffs insisted on higher tips than the standard 15%. Please consider that higher tips is for exceptional service.
This was extremely unprofessional, and it's a shame this is considered "fine dining" in Milwaukee. Needless to say I won't consider any Bartolotta services in the future.

We came here the other night for a delayed birthday dinner and it was phenomenal! Every dish and cocktail we had was better than the last.

I can personally recommend the chicken and the plum cocktail. If they are available when you go you won't be disappointed.

A special shout-out should be given to their vegetarian options and for our server Liz - she was warm and extremely helpful!

Our food was very good. We ate the duck dumplings, apple salad, filet mignon, lamb, chocolate truffle and pecan desserts. Unfortunately, the wine I ordered to accompany my filet was forgotten until we had finished our desserts, and we were never offered coffee. We observed what we assumed to be the manager check in with every table near us at the end of their meal, and he passed us by twice without a word, even though we were only one of 5 tables occupied when we left. We won’t be Bacchus.

I’m giving 5 stars because I think this place has potential.
Service all around was great, but our server personally wasn’t amazing. They pre bussed, very kind, and helpful!
Food just missed the ball… wagyu covered in sauce, no flavor in the appetizers…. Out of the 6 items we had, we did not finish one of them.
Super bummer.
I would have told our server, but he really never checked in on our experience.

For starters… I called before our reservation to ask an extremely simple question regarding service for new years night... in which the woman who answered the phone immediately started talking over me, didn’t even answer my question, and got me off the phone as fast as she could; abruptly hanging up on me. I understand they were probably busy, but this is no way to treat a customer about to spend $300 on dinner. It made me hesitant to even make the drive to Bacchus, but unfortunately we did anyway since traditionally we are fans of this place.

Also, Not sure if we went on “new hire orientation day” or what, but our overall experience was horrible. We have been to this restaurant multiple times and have loved it, but our most recent experience on New Year’s Eve was just awful. $125 a person up charge for a 3 course meal, and our waiter would have lost his own rear end if it wasn’t attached. Came back 3 separate times asking questions about our 2 simple drinks we ordered.. then started dropping things on the floor.. never picked up our used silverware for the next dish.. etc. we had an empty bread basket in the center of our table for the entire meal. That wasn’t overly concerning, however, you expect more from this type of place. Why else would we spend that kind of money for an hour experience? I had to cut my steak with a butter knife. A $300 meal, cutting steak with a butter knife.. just unbelievable… In summary, It felt as if we had the wait staff of a red lobster.

Second, the food. Again, $125 per person for a 3 course meal, and I was extremely disappointed. I ordered oysters which came on a bed of salt, in which had overflown the shell and completely ruined the taste. They were disgusting. Next was my charred wagyu, which genuinely tasted like the most average cut of meat I have ever eaten, and I only received a few ounces of it. The only saving grace was the truffle dessert which was delicious.

Basically, we paid over $300 for a tasty dessert. Absolutely nothing else stood out and our wait staff was completely amateur and from the second we walked in ruined our experience. We will be taking our business elsewhere from now on the next time we’d like a nice meal. I strongly recommend seeking other options before you give this place your money.

Also, just one last little comment, they asked if we were celebrating anything, and it happened to be my birthday. So naturally, we entered that into our reservation.. only to have no sort of mention of it whatsoever during our dinner. Now Believe me, I am not 5 years old and I don’t need a birthday candle, but why even ask the customer if you completely ignore them anyway..? Just seemed extremely unprofessional. “It’s the thought that counts” goes so much further these days than people realize. We both felt like just another link in the chain during this experience being squeezed for every last cent Bacchus could get from us (the valet guy pressures you to tip him totaling $10 to park your car 10 feet anyway even if you want to park it yourself)

Very disappointing food. The dishes were prepared poorly - under-salted bolognese pasta that made it hit rich but completely underwhelming, a weird grey looking filet mignon that lacked texture and taste, and a very funky smelling and undercooked salmon. Our table enjoyed the lamb, tuna, and dumplings but the majority of our dishes were almost not worth eating. We paid $500 for a party of 4 to have the 3 course menu and 1 drink each. The atmosphere is elevated but sterile and stiff with bright lighting. Service was friendly. Cannot recommend.

Went here with my girlfriend on 10/6/2024 for the first time. We had never done anything close to fine dining before, so it was an experience.

Put a negative taste in the beginning because there's no parking lot right there. You can valet for $6 + tip. Otherwise we found parking on the street for free just across the way.

Once we found the place though, it was nice. Warm greetings, beautiful ambiance. Not crowded at all, but not dead. It was just right. Alan and Autum served us. Really really nice people.

Right away we were asked if there was any allergies. My girlfriend is lactose intolerant (and vegetarian which is a part of the reason we drove 3 hours to come here) and they let the chef know. That was really cool. They brought her out so different menu for vegetarians

After placing our order, we were surprised by a small sample of little something. Goat cheese tart for me and tomatoe salad for my girlfriend. Wasn't expecting it, but it was nice.

The food......I could get all 3 courses of pastrami. I've never ever ever had a taste like that. It was like a firework in my mouth

Honestly, the price wasn't terrible either. Something $146 for 2 people ( we do not drink alcohol though mind you) slapped $200 down and took off.

Overall, fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend.

We came to celebrate a retirement, guests from all over the world. We expected to have a grand time, the only thing holding us back was service, the setting and the vibe. First let me say food was good.
But at the start, service didn’t know how to take drink orders, asking the table, “can I get any drinks for anyone?”, like we’re at a beer-bar?!
Also, we’re seated at a table that feels like we’re in a hallway?! This place faces the eastern lakeshore, yet we can’t see outside at all. Furthermore, there are very few tables seated, so the place feels like a vacuum. Dull and dead.
Somewhere in the midst of getting entrees, we asked about bread, we’re told conflicting things. One, you can order bread, and another, we’re short on bread, we have some but not much. Then out-of-no-where, two tiny baskets appear…for a table of 14!!! Its nuts.
Dinners were very good, albeit not hot, filets came first (2of them), then a minute or so later the halibut showed up(3of these) then the rest showed up at odd intervals. All not hot, but done well.
Drinks were hard to come by, very confusing, and really no table service after dinners were finally brought out. I don’t recall any server ever asking our table if everything was alright.
Desserts served, no offer of coffee/tea, cocktails etc.
Bill was presented, paid, and overall an exceptionally off-nite for what was supposed to be a nice celebration for a global company.

This review comes with thought, not written in haste, and after a two-day reflection on our experience.

For the select few who can appreciate and afford it, fine dining is an immersive and cherished experience. For others it is unattainable. For me, with friends in town from Europe, and as my wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary, it was a moment to appreciate (and yes, save up for). Without drowning this review in a personal narrative of disappointment, here is a bulleted list of why this experience was poor, and why, understandably, the restaurant was about half-full on a Saturday night.

1. Our servers were inexperienced - one even told us so. Throughout the night they 1) Could not explain certain components of our meal; 2) Twice served courses without our entire party seated, the second time after a reminder; 3) They were unable to accommodate any modifications to the menu; and 4) Despite asking, showed no further interest in the uniqueness of our table and what we were celebrating.

2. Bacchus has a tasting menu. For a restaurant group as high-quality as Bartolotta one would expect a wider selection of awesome items. Bacchus did not. I read somewhere that this was switched over during COVID and never returned. Unsure, but the tasting menu was not only limited but very unmemorable. In fact, there wasn't a single course that wowed anyone at the table.

3. Value. Though we had saved up for the night, our experience fell far short of the $300+ bill (even with low-end wine selections). I honestly felt guilty after paying.

Mr. B's is great. Ristorante Bartolotta, great. Etc. Bacchus? Disappointing at best.

**FOLLOW-UP** As a point of clarification, the restaurant posted a response asking me to email them with my contact information. I contacted them - twice - and never heard from them.

**FINAL FOLLOW-UP** The restaurant did eventually contact me; we had a wonderful conversation. There was a mix-up over the review follow-up communication. Their response was polite and helpful.

My first fine dining experience and I did not know what to expect. Everything from the atmosphere, to the staff, and the food was outstanding. Each dish was portion just right for your appetite, not underwhelming nor overwhelming. The accompanied special occasion complementaries were amazing, it was a great addition to the three course meal my group chose. I came here for my birthday. Overall, definitely give Bacchus a try, you will not regret it. If the prices are too high, I definitely recommend going for a special event or occasion because when these kinds of events come up, this place and experience is definitely worth celebrating at.

Good atmosphere with a fantastic staff. We tried the three course meal option. The restaurant has some unique menu choices, and we appreciated the waiters recommendations. Overall the food was good, but nothing stood out as exceptional. The three course menu, two drinks, and tip came out to about $200. Unfortunately, I don’t think the restaurant’s food really stood out and wasn’t worth the price. Not opposed to returning, but it wouldn’t be our first choice for upscale dining in Milwaukee.

We visited Bacchus on multiple occasions, our last during Milwaukee’s downtown dining week with high expectations, given its reputation. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the hype. Despite a promising start with a delightful sunchoke bisque, the pea risotto was bland and under-seasoned. I saw another review also wrote the same. Service delays were noticeable, with a 40-minute wait past our reservation time and slow initial service. The main courses, however, were ok. After multiple visits, I would pay the price tag for this place. While the atmosphere was pleasant, the overall experience, especially for the price, lacked the perfection expected from such a prestigious venue. I appreciated the ambiance, but this is a perfect case of buying the brand and no quality.

We love to try out Milwaukee restaurants during downtown dining week. We were so excited when Bacchus was a part of it! Unfortunately it was a little bit of a let down for the price of the meal. We had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time before we were seated, and we had to wait another 5 minutes until a server stopped by once we sat down. We finally got our drinks and appetizers. I was very happy with the sunchoke bisque, but the pea risotto was not good. It was disappointing to get such a flavorless dish, it really needed salt and pepper. The main course was the highlight. We liked the steak as well as the salmon a lot. The flourless chocolate cake and the lemon curd desserts were also tasty. Overall, I thought for the price and prestige of this restaurant, everything should have been perfect, and it just didn't quite hit the mark. I did like the atmosphere of the restaurant, but I can't see myself going back.

Why have I waited for 5 years here in MKE to try this? Tonight, I took my father out to dinner. He is nearly 87 and pretty much loves steak. I'm vegetarian. Therefore, finding a place that has quality food for both of us is a chore. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with kindness. The staff was exceptional. Our waitress, Mayah was as thoughtful, intuitive and fantastic as the best customer service goals could envision. But, the big thing, besides the beautiful, elegant space right across from Lake Michigan, was the meal. Bacchus offers several options for a fixed price meal. And, at $70, it is a serious deal. I found the vegetarian options inspired. I had the LACLARE GOAT CHEESE CURDS: blueberry compote, arugula, smoked walnuts,
macerated blueberry, vanilla, and Tellicherry peppercorn. For my main course I had the butternut squash risotto. And, for afters, the pear and sunflower. My father went straight for the filet mignon. So, the result was a big thumbs up, 5 stars. Kudos also for actually having a vegetarian menu, being super accommodating to my father in his mobility scooter (holding the doors open, etc.) and lastly, thank you to the valet parking attendant for being so speedy and gracious. Go.

I had the filet, it was 10/10.

Sarah was one of the servers that took care of us and she was incredible.

This place is definitely swanky. Bringing a date here will definitely impress.

Had a lovely time there on New Year’s Eve. Dinner was delicious! Black truffle ravioli was great. Veal soup wasn’t what we expected but it was okay. Scallops is so far the best of all the restaurants I’ve been to! The filet mignon was overcooked when I cut it open but they quickly had it remade and It was cooked perfectly the second time. We loved both dessert, thought chocolate would be really heavy and dense but it melted in your mouth right away and the flavor and sweetness were just perfect for us. Overall it was a great experience. We stayed for the party and really enjoyed our time there. Will be going back to try their regular menu for sure!

My husband and I had an amazing evening at Bacchus. We enjoyed the chef's menu with the sommelier pairings for each course. The sommelier, Chris, was in, and he went above and beyond by engaging with us to learn more about the wine pairings and his selection process. Service was polite and efficient while also allowing us to have a leisurely dinner through the five courses. The atmosphere was also impeccable, and we were able to easily converse in a peaceful environment even though there were many other people also dining at the same time. We have a shellfish allergy, and they accomdated us with a different course with ease.

If you are looking to go somewhere to celebrate anything or have an event, I HIGHLY recommend Bacchus.

My group and I had the best time. I had a table of 7 that I made a reservation for. This was for a surprise birthday dinner. I wanted it to be a surprise to the very last second coming to the table, and our host for the evening helped play into it. I was very grateful they played along (not sure who was working Saturday Oct. 14th but thank you! I believe Carolyn/Caroline is the one who helped me set up the rsvp and made all the notes and answered questions leading up to my reservation so thank you!)
The service was amazing. Everyone we made contact with was professional, friendly, and although an upscale environment, kept things light and fun. Also VERY helpful with dietary restrictions (I’m gluten free and I had 2 in my party who were vegetarian). So shoutout to our server (the check had 2 different people listed, Zoe and Isabella) and to her helping hand (I didn’t get her name unfortunately, maybe it was one of the two listed on the check).
The food was incredible and came out very well timed. We all got the 3 course special and we all really enjoyed our dishes. Again, they were very accommodating to allergies and restrictions which is always a huge plus in my book. Even when bringing each dish they would specifically say mine was the gluten free dish which was so very reassuring.
Wine and drinks were wonderful. There was a plum cocktail that especially stood out.

In all, an amazing experience. Thank you to the whole staff for making a special night even more special. The person we were celebrating said it was a night he will remember for the rest of his life.

We enjoyed our evening here, though it was not quite to what we expected. Brightly lit (maybe catering to an older clientele) and very slow on a Saturday night (surprisingly?). Excellent service, beautiful ambience, but food did not quite hit the mark - flavors were on point but some lacking proper executions.

Definite wins on the menu: scallops (delicious broth, perfectly cooked) and mango semifreddo (fresh and well balanced flavors, beautifully presented). However, the octopus and pheasant were not as tender as they should be. Additionally, we found the duck dumplings to be very doughy (would not recommend as a first course) and the honey cake was exceedingly sweet, to the point of being challenging to finish.

Uncertain whether we would return but an enjoyable experience nonetheless. The servers were excellent and appreciated their attentiveness.
