Hello Betty and team. Thank you again for hosting our private event. In August we lost our mother unexpectedly and needed a venue with plenty of space and good food to host a celebration of life. Betty was able to allow us exclusive use of the venue for our 130 plus guests. I heard several compliments on the food and our guests enjoyed having the dining room, bar, and the outdoor patio is great! This venue also has lots of green space where children can run and play safely. Thank you again for making a tough day the best it could be. Four of us came for dinner after seeing a recommendation in the Nordlys guestbook. WOW... the food was absolutely fantastic. Definitely NOT what I expected in the best way possible. The friend steak bites were amazing... so much so that I ordered an extra "to-go" when the kitchen was closing for the night. Everyone who ordered burgers were very happy with their choice, although the Barrel burger was so tall that some clever engineering needed to happen to fit a nice bite in your mouth without losing onion rings. The Chicken Alfredo pizza was also fantastic. Service was great - staff was super friendly and playful. We initially were eating outside with an amazing view of a storm rolling in... until it started to rain on us (so we moved to a table inside). Definitely add it to one of your stops if you're in the area!

Hidden gem in a small town where if you "blink" you'd miss it. I recommend keeping your eyes peeled so you don't miss this place. You can tell they put a lot of work into building the place up. They have a full service kitchen with great food and post changes to their menu through their Facebook page (i recommend following if you frequent there). They also post fun events if you live nearby. I attended a wresting event they hosted during one of the "Frederic Days" and that was a fun new experience. Their new outdoor area with the scenic overlook is beautiful. Look forward to coming back to see what else is new and improved!

We were given a gift certificate! So we ate here Sat. Evening! Our Waitress was new, so we were trying to be nice and not cause any problems! We both ordered their Prime Rib special! We ordered Medium rare, we should have sent back but didn’t want to cause any problems for our new waitress! We could not cut it with our steak knives, ate our potatoes and brought the steak home we let it sit in the juices hoping it would get more tender! Tried eating it on Monday night absolutely could not cut it or chew i! Stopped in today(Tuesday) to complain the lady said no one else complained and how does she know we were even their could get no where with her so left!

Stopped in while passing through the area, pictures looked inviting and reviews sounded good. Wow, did i not expect to be blown away by the food however!! My group had the nachos, reuben bites, cod bites, and the peanut butter burger with onion rings for the side. Every single dish was fantastic!! The onion rings especially blew us all away, they were amazing and i would say if you don’t get them you’re missing out!!

Service was also fast and friendly! I didn’t get our server’s name but she was fantastic and attentive.

If you’re looking for a cozy bite in the area, i recommend this spot 100%!!

4.3 out of 10 maybe. The food was heavily greasy and the mixed drinks were not poured properly where it tasted like rubbing alcohol. Only took a few sips and sent it back. The bartender was rude about it. The Ruben's beef was steak-ums, not corned beef and the chicken was overcooked to a hard shell. The server was great, but found out she has to share tips. Unfortunately only a one time visit for us.

I would NEVER recommend this restaurant. While the food was “okay”, When I rec’d the bill they charged more than what was on the menu. I questioned the server and she said new menu’s are being printed, she apologetically said she has to charge the higher price, and did. I was surprised. Although it was not a great deal of money, I still thought it was wrong (and illegal) and mentioned it to the manager. She immediately had an attitude and said since the credit card was run already, she couldn’t do anything. Not accepting such an unreasonable excuse and attitude, I asked her to figure it out and reimburse me. She angrily pulled money out of HER purse, slammed it on the table and motioned me to the door. Cannot believe a manager could he so unfair, unreasonable , and rude! There are other restaurants with “fair” food in the Frederick area. I strongly suggest you find them.

I've been back since my last review considering there's not many spots to eat in the area, and I'm local. The atmosphere really deceives you for the food. The burgers don't have a chargrilled flavor even though they're thrown on a chargriller (I don't know if it's because the leanness of the meat or the cook) it seems that it's frozen patties as well. The chicken sandwich is okay not seasoned at all, and slight chargrilled flavor, the steak I had was very disappointing it was what I imagined the texture of a sponge was like, almost like it was some sort of fake meat, and the drinks are a bit expensive considering the area, but the servers are nice, and friendly.

Went out with family, three children and five adults. The restaurant had approximately seven other tables, we ordered our food and did not receive it for approximately an hour and 20 minutes. I had ordered the shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo, the food tasted like it had come from a can, no flavor and a weird taste. The kids mac & cheese that the kids ordered literally looked like a box of mac & cheese that had been sitting out for 10 or 15 minute. My hubby asked the server after waiting about 40 minutes how much longer it’s going to be as they were not that busy. She replied they’re starting the order after they finish the other table that ordered before us. Then about 20 minutes later came and she said your food’s gonna be out in a few minutes and it took another 20 minutes. The staff were friendly however, the wait time and quality of food was severely not up to standards for going out for a nice meal at all.

We still love coming here. The staff are friendly, attentive, and even accommodated us when our original group of 5 for dinner swelled to 9 and we had to pause our food order for half an hour while the rest arrived.
Food was hot and fresh, and so good! I had the garlic chicken parmesan with fries... Whatever that garlic Parm sauce is, it is punchy and delicious!

Love coming here, especially when we are out riding our ATVs. Always friendly, fast service and tasty drinks and food.

The best food I have ever tasted. They make what's called Reuben tater tots. The broiled chicken is so juicy and delcious. We randomly found this gem of a place when on a daycation drive. Extremely reasonable prices, and wonderful staff. Our waitress was the nicest lady that I've ever came across in the restaurant industry. Definitely a place to go if you want really awesome food. Little hole in the wall restaurant and bar on Highway 35 leaving Frederic going to Siren. We stopped here for some late dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered a cheese pizza for the kiddos and a couple burgers for us. Burgers were absolutely delicious and made in house on a charbroiler. The pizza was also delicious. The staff was as friendly as could be and the atmosphere was great. They have the bar area separate from the dining area which makes it a bit better for kiddos.

All the same, this place has great food, friendly staff, and the Northwoods bar and restaurant feel to it.

By far one of the best restaurants in the area. Their walleye and mashed potatoes is fantastic and the staff is very friendly. If they get busy just be patient, people want to be lazy and dont want to work these days so the staff is working harder than ever to keep up with the high demand they have built for themselves. Although I will say, dont be afraid to turn on a Badgers game on Saturday's. I know we're close to Gopher country but we're in the great state of Wisconsin not no poor man's version called Minnesota. I have been coming here since visiting in Amery, so a bit of a drive but it is so worth it. The food is unbelievable and so creative. From the duck wontons, Rueben bites to the peanut butter burger. Waited 25 minutes before we finally walked out. Watched tables come in after us get waited on, then several people came in and sat at the bar and all got waited on. We were seated in the bar area. Not even got the customary "we'll be right with you". This was our second time here. The first was when they opened the Barrel House and the service was just as bad. Won't be a third time.

So what your saying is that since you were short handed it's ok to ignore a table for 25 minutes but still have time to serve customers that just walked in and had drinks in front of them in less then 2 minutes. We all understand employee shortage but this was the cause of poor service.. only 2 people were in the bar area when we sat down. Thanks for the quick response to my review, wish the service was as fast...

Bartender was very nice but the onion rings, French fries and perch were inedible. My assumptions is something ‘was wrong with the oil. The prime rib was “tough as shoe leather” according to my friend who ordered it. Mashed potatoes were the only thing I could eat on my fish fry meal. I was a little skeptical about this place before heading in after reading the reviews. But with most places its a hit or miss at anytime so we chose to try it. We loved it!
The atmosphere is really cool. Love the uniqueness of some of the furniture.
We went with the prime rib dinner Saturday night special with the au just. Omg, delish. Even the outer crust and fat had so much flavoring. Came with a baked potato with melted butter already in it instead of a cold slab that you have to add. You had a choice of soup or salad. We chose salad but added a cup of their clay chowder that was homemade. Definitely worth it. Again very flavorful.
The staff working last night were awesome. Trisha, Eric, a lady with long blonde hair, and a younger girl. Very friendly and low-key. Hate places that try to push you out. But that's just me. Some people may need to be checked on every 5 min. As long as im not tapping my fingers waiting. Im good.

Well, most complaints are met with the response of "inexperienced staff" ... how often are you changing staff? I was hoping to give a good review... not gonna happen. And it's because of the owner/manager. Sorry not sorry... cheese curds were out fast, but had a pile of grease with hair in it. Burgers were ok, but nothing special. French dip came with a 4oz au jus. To dip a hoagie. Our plates were brought out one at a time, the appetizers were taken with half still left on the plate. Pop refills were wrong kind. Bill was 79.73 for 5adult with no alcohol, so price is ok, but the waitress gave us a $20 for change... so she didn't want a tip? I just wouldn't go here unless it's to get drunk, the inside of the building is pretty cool.

We were looking for a good pizza on a cold winter Sunday night so we thought we would give Barrel House a try. It was the worst pizza I've ever had. A frozen tombstone pizza would have honestly been better. I was told it would take 20 minutes but it was actually 45 minutes. I paid the $22 bill and grabbed the box to head home. I had to look in the box to see if we actually got a full size pizza because it weighed next to nothing. There were little toppings on a very thin and tasteless crust. Very disappointing when some many others have stated the food is great.

Hamburgers looked good...we had prime rib dinners...not so good. Our order got lost, we waited over an hour to get served. Waitress said they would discount the meal...nope paid full price. Our first and last experience at the Barrel House.

If you are looking for a safe place to eat in Wisconsin. Don't go here. No staff wear any masks. I had a curbsode pick up order and I did question masks being worn while preparing food. The server didn't hesitate to say no. Very unprofessional. If it weren't for my kids being hungry, the food would have been left. I threw out salad and beverages because I didn't feel safe. Otherwise, I had to microwave our food in order to feel safe eating it.
