The food was excellent. It was our anniversary dinner. We received a card and champagne from the restaurant. I especially enjoyed the roasted cauliflower with leeks. The cauliflower was sweet along with the leeks making it very delicious. Our four course dinner was pleasant and enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and available. Would definitely return if we are in the area. Thank you for making our day special.

Always get treated so royally by all from the time we enter. Chose Lake Park Bistro, even though it’s a distance from our home because it’s always a treat. Food is delicious, service is tops, and the view of the lake completes a wonderful meal. We have been Bartolotta fans from the first one Wauwatosa and have been to all of your locations.

I came to this restaurant as part of a large group over 100 people). The chef (James Beard award winner) and owner, Paul Bartolatto, came out and gave us a wonderful speech and history of how he and his late brother, Steve, found this hundred-year-old former boat house over 30 years ago, leased it from the park district and converted it into an outstanding dining venue along Lake Michigan. There’s even an authentic croquet club across the street! The food was amazing, the servers were everywhere, serving all hundred plus of us for over two hours. We enjoyed a transformative dining experience and elegant atmosphere. I live in NE Illinois but can’t wait to revisit this place with friends and family!

A friend took me to their WONDERFUL brunch for my birthday, everything was OUTSTANDING! The Croquette de Chevre was SO GOOD! I really appreciated the card with the black and white photos of people from maybe 100 years ago on one side and the other side had a more contemporary photo of people with Joe Bartolotta wearing his signature hat. ❤️

Lake Park Bistro has always been a beautiful restaurant, enhancing Milwaukee’s restaurant scene. I think the food, service, and elegance have become even better. LPB is often thought of as a special occasion dining option; however, because the gestalt pricing is reasonable, when drinks, wine, etc., are taken into consideration, it can be considered a place to go anytime. When the bill came, I thought there was a mistake. I split the check with a friend for four people, and each of us had an appetizer, an entree, three had two glasses of wine each, and I had one cocktail. The bill came to $167.00 before tip. That’s reasonable for a meal of this quality. I’ve been to several restaurants in Milwaukee where the check was infinitely higher for a mediocre experience. Yes, the places were more casual, but why avoid a high-end establishment if the prices are lower? Milwaukee can be odd in that way.
The steak with frites was done in the French way, rare and delicious. Escargot was terrific, the puff pastry done perfectly. My salmon rillettes tasted amazing, as did the duck liver paté. Ooh la la! We all had a great time, enjoying the well-trained service.
Hey, once in a while, take a step on the wild side, Milwaukee, and have an elegant dinner. You can even wear your baseball cap. No one will care.
Lake Park Bistro was always a beautiful space, and the kitchen served very good food. It has been over a decade since I dined at LPB, and changes have occurred. Joe passed on and his award winning brother, Chef Paul Bartolotta has taken over the Bartolotta restaurant empire. Paul’s kitchen experience is mind boggling, stretching from Michelin starred icons in Italy and France, to the Tony May restaurant San Domenico in NYC, and Spiaggia in Chicago. He mentored dozens of chefs, including Marc Bianchini of Osteria del Mondo fame.
The three of us sat at the bar and had a wonderful time. The service was gracious and the wine list eclectic. Our Dover Sole entrees, all three, were filleted at the bar and tasted delicious. Our appetizers were Parisian good. Prices were high for Milwaukee, but the dinner was worth every penny. Paul, a notable presence at Lake Park Bistro, greets each diner to thank them for their patronage. Charming and informative, his stories added much to our experience. Lake Park Bistro would be a great restaurant in any city in the United States.

Every time we dine at a Bartolotta‘s restaurant we have a great time. We each ordered from the four course fixed price menu, and every course was superb. We scheduled things a little bit tight with theater scheduled after dinner, but our waitress, with cooperation from the kitchen, bailed us out. We were able to parlay our Bartolotta frequent diner points along with a wine credit for my birthday and stll ended up being awarded additional points for a future visit. It is one of the most generous frequent flyer reward plans we have seen.

I took my fiancé for his bday. Our first time being at Bartolotta’s was an outstanding experience. The dishes were perfect portions, the quality of the taste was delicious, there were many options to choose from. The service they provided was phenomenal. If you’re looking for something classy and romantic, this is it! Highly recommended.

Thirty first wedding anniversary. The staff and the food were, as always, exquisite. They were informed on the menu with helpful recommendations and fun to chat with.
The Dover Sole and the salmon were amazing as was the seafood bisque and the crème brûlée and the clafoutis a la peche.
Love all of the Bartolottas restaurants but Lake Park Bistro always has a special fondness due to our history and growing up on the east side.
Thanks to everyone there.

We went to LPB for our anniversary dinner and had a great time. When we arrived it was very chilly but I’m assuming they crank the AC before dinner service because eventually it was turned off and was a comfortable temp. When we got to our table, it had the perfect view of the lake & a happy anniversary card was on it, a thoughtful touch. Our waitresses were great. Food was great, only qualm I had was that the salade de laitue was way too salty - not sure if they sprinkled too much on or what the situation was there. Onion soup, tenderloin, ribeye, and crème brûlée was great. We were treated with a complementary glass of champagne when dessert came out as well - would love to come back again!

Update.
They never did try to contact me after sending my contact info.
Everything was great until we heard the person next to us trying to get our table facing the water while we were still sitting there we overheard the guest and staff say you can you can have their table when they leave we had only been there for a little over an hour and the other table kept glancing at us waiting for us to leave we wanted to order more drinks but felt like it was time to go.

What my wife and I selected were excellently prepared and delicious. Our servers were very attentive to our questions and needs. They made sure we were taken care of.
The only negative was how cold the room felt. On a cooler summer day, the thermostat must have been set too low. Our servers attempted to alleviate this after we alerted them.

Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro is a true Milwaukee treasure. From the moment you step into their stunning dining room (with its elegant brass accents and perfectly curated, on-theme music) you know you’re in for something special. The views of Lake Michigan from the windows add a serene backdrop to an already beautiful setting. The staff here are attentive and insightful, guiding you through the menu with genuine care that elevates the whole experience.
Don’t miss the frisée salad made with wild mushrooms and black truffle oil topped with a flash-fried egg. The aroma alone basically announces itself to the whole dining room (in the best way). For the main course, the Dover sole is a showstopper, prepared right at your table with mouth-watering finesse. And if you have room left, the flourless chocolate cake is an absolute must, rich, decadent, and the perfect way to end the night. Fine dining with a warm, personal touch. Bartolotta’s LPB nails it!

As always, outstanding food, service, and ambiance. Lake Park Bistro has been a top-flight restaurant in Milwaukee since it opened 20-plus years ago. I traveled a lot for work, and this restaurant competes easily with finest of those in cities many times the size of Milwaukee. Lake Park never fails to exceed the highest standards patrons care about. The food is outstanding, and the service is friendly, attentive, and professional. On this occasion, our server, Molly, was terrific. Particularly on clear days, moreover, the views of the park just below and of Lake Michigan a football field or so just outside the picture windows are spectacular. And the ambiance is very warm … and very French. In all seasons, a visit and a meal make for a wonderful experience.

We were there for a brunch on Father’s Day. Did not realize that it was a prefix menu.
My husband is a vegetarian, and there were not many choices.
It was a pricey brunch With up charges for various options.
However, I was very surprised when I asked for jam, which is an accompaniment in any breakfast that I have had(All over the world) I was told that there would be an up charge For that because it comes in small special containers of specially made jam.
Well, I stayed up because I like to Have jam with my croissant to my surprise this was the usual jam that comes in small prepackaged containers that are usually there in most restaurants. While the charge of two dollars Did not break my wallet, I thought this was Really not something that a fine dining restaurant should be Charging their clients.
Coming to the food, croissants were very nice and crispy.
My starter -potato and leek soup was the best part of my meal. My daughter’s quiche was undercooked.
Other options were OK not great.
My husband, who is a vegetarian settle for some mushrooms and soup.
We asked for bread without egg washing- luckily they did bring a baguette for him.
We have dined here in the past and our experience was great, however not so much this time.
We still did enjoy our time as there were beautiful views of the lake And we were together as a family!

This restaurant is a jewel, thank you to Bartolotta’s for keeping the ethos of French cuisine alive for us Milwaukeans when we are not able to pop over to Paris. Kudos for consistency over the years. The wait staff was young but their striving spirit was evident. Tastes were very good. Better steak frites here than in most of my dining experiences in Paris. Frites were a little cool per my wife who sampled from my plate. Some timing issues with sides. But we were having fun at our table. Desserts were tops. Loved the chocolat mousse. Really over the top.

My wife and I came up to Milwaukee for the Memorial Day holiday and began our evening at Lake Park Bistro. The space is impeccable. Situated overlooking Lake Michigan with an elegant farmhouse feel inside. Our food was exceptional. I manage a French restaurant in Chicagoland and everything was on point. We really enjoyed everything but the vol-au-vent was exceptional along with the seared foie gras with poached pears. Service at the bar from Dominick was stellar. I always balk at some restaurant reviews on food because taste is different for different people.
Summary for Bartolotta's is: ok food, great ambiance.
The main issue here is price vs. what you get. There's definitely an expectation of haute French cuisine that simply is not there.
One world to describe this place is "pretentious".

Bartolotta's Lake Park Bistro has always been my absolute favorite restaurant but something seemed to have gone awry when we dined there last night. It was an evening of misses, which started with the reservation that we had made 4 weeks ago. They didn't have it. But they found a table. I ordered a beautiful Bandol Rosé, but the temperature was way too warm, at least 10 degrees higher than it should have been. For a restaurant priding itself on its elaborate and extensive, curated all-French wine portfolio, the sommelier should have known or overseen the temperature the Rosé needed to be served at. My foie gras was indelicate, seemingly mass produced and was barely warm. The sole meunière was lathered in butter, overcooked, mushy and only warm. Julia Child would have freaked out. But most amazing were the green beans which were old, rubbery and -- yes -- barely warm. The dinner was simply a stunningly bad performance for a restaurant that touts its perfection. C'était bien dommage.

My review reflects more my disappointment based on the feedback that I had taken in account to chose this place but the quality/cost ratio was not great. We took the $75 menu with the $45 wine pairing. Food was OK and tasty but not exceptional. My biggest disappointment concerns the limited choice of that menu as basically every course had to be upgraded by $10 or 15 to have access to the full experience, that were the prices lead to a Michelin multi-star restaurant which was far to be the case. Sorry

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday. Upon arrival, our server was initially very attentive. However, after taking our order, he disappeared for long periods, making it difficult to get any assistance. Eventually, we flagged down the assistant server and ordered two glasses of wine, but they never arrived.
When our food was brought out, everyone received their meal except for me. Assuming mine would arrive shortly, we waited. After about 10 minutes, I encouraged everyone to start eating before their food got cold, which made for an awkward dining experience. We finally managed to get the assistant server’s attention, who then tracked down our original server. He realized my meal had never been cooked and asked if I’d like something in the meantime. I simply requested that he at least bring the drinks that had been ordered before the meal, now that everyone was finishing up.
When my steak frites finally arrived, it was incredibly disappointing—it tasted like a used tire and had the texture of jerky. I’ve had this dish before and usually enjoy it, but this time, it was disgusting.
To top it off, when the bill came, I attempted to use $120 in bonus gift cards that I had received from purchasing gift cards over the holidays. I usually give out gift cards to friends and co workers encouraging them to try Lake Park. I was then informed that they were not valid on Saturdays, despite the assistant server initially saying that some worked while others did not. This is partially on me as I did not see the fine print. The frustrating part is that I tried to ask about it so I could just pay cash but the server disappeared for another 15 minutes. When I asked for the total amount due, he told me it would be around $700 with tip, but the bill was actually $460. I was annoyed he was asking for a 50 percent tip after terrible service.
Additionally, when celebrating a birthday at this restaurant, they typically provide a slice of cake or a small treat, but nothing was offered.
Overall, this was a horrendous experience and a special evening ruined—from poor service and missing food to a frustrating payment issue.

This hurts a part of me. I've been looking forward to a meal here since they opened, but at the 5 star price point, it needed to wait until we had a really good reason to celebrate.
It was extremely expensive. That shouldn't be a surprise to anybody reading reviews.
Pros:
- Front of house and back of house communication about all the extensive food allergies in my family.
- Attentive staff.
- Really friendly service. Tons of servers.
- Dessert. So. Good.
Cons:
- ... the entrees. It was incredibly salty. It was also incredibly bland. I was not blown away by it. I was underwhelmed. And I did not want to be underwhelmed. Not here. Not at what was supposed to be the premier fine dining restaurant in Milwaukee.
- The coffee. How do you settle on bland coffee??
If you have the financial stability to eat here, it's fine.

There were 10 of us for NYE. I had been to other Bartolotta restaurants but not Lake Park Bistro, but was expecting the same great service and food as the others. That was the wrong assumption! Our reservations were at 7:15… they seated us early (at 7:00, which was great) but we didn’t know at the time, that was as attentive as it got. I won’t go into every detail, but here are the highlights: once seated we sat for 30 minutes before getting menus, we did not get our first course until 8:30, and we had to keep asking for bread while we waited as we were hungry. Drinks sometimes took 30 min until we got them. When our food did come, not everyone’s came at the same time, one dinner came out about 15 min after the rest of us had gotten ours. The food was “ok”. The salmon was dry and tasteless. My husband’s steak was cooked as he requested but was not hot and seemed to have been sitting for a long time. We had to ask them to remove the empty beverage glasses several times, as they kept piling up in the center of the table. We asked the waiter 3 different times throughout the dinner the whereabouts of our food all while we watched other tables who were seated after us come and go in a somewhat timely manner. When the waiter brought the bill, no effort was made to make up for being there for 4+ hours. We asked to speak to the manager and once she was apprised of the situation, which she should have been aware of already, she asked US what we thought was a fair resolution. That is not how you handle that situation. You come with a solution that satisfies the customer and also represents your brand to the standard that you claim to have. We will not go back to Lake Park Bistro. Too many other GREAT restaurants in MKE.

My dearest friend Heather wanted to take me out to celebrate my belated birthday, and it was my first time dining at this restaurant. We arrived around 7 PM without a reservation, hoping to get a table. If that didn't work out, our plan was to eat at the bar. Fortunately, we were able to secure a table for two, though we had to wait about 10 to 20 minutes for the servers to clean and set it up. We didn't mind, as we enjoyed a drink at the bar while we waited.
Our servers, Kate and Alyssa, were incredibly sweet and went above and beyond for us. Everything we ordered was amazing! I tried to find something to complain about, but honestly, there was nothing to critique. The service, food, and atmosphere were just perfect.
In the end, we were the last ones to leave the restaurant, but Alyssa was so gracious, telling us, “Take your time; it’s your birthday, don’t worry.” Thank you, Kate and Alyssa, for making my first experience at the restaurant so wonderful and for making my birthday special! :)

LPB has been our favorite for a long time and we we're thrilled to learn they re-opened. The service was stellar and VERY safe however we were not quite thrilled with our food. It was almost as if the kitchen has an entirely new staff.. perhaps new suppliers/wholesalers?? My Oeuf Mollet avec Champignons des Bois was prepared differently, the mussels were definitely different. And my favorite fois gras dish has a new bland fruit or vegetable to accompany it vs the old one which was a sweet fruit that was such a great compliment to such a savory protein. Lastly, I had a lobster entree that was prepared in a "beef stock" like base... Almost like it should have accompanied beef vs. fresh lobster. I hate to sound harsh but I am just being honest. And FYI the menu is now a set 3 or 4 course menu. We will certainly come back however having eaten here so many times for so many special occasions.. we were a bit disappointed compared to any previous visit. One last note.. just a thought... Why is it I cannot find a desert chef in Milwaukee who makes Panna Cotta? The last time we found it was at Chistopher's (now closed/new owner perhaps) in Sister Bay. That was approximately 10 years ago..I will finish by staring the lemon desert we had was excellent!!

Friendly and efficient staff, great view of the lake. Food is definitely a cut above usual brunch fare, and priced accordingly. Not sure if it's a great spot for kids for dinner, but Sunday brunch with a 7 y.o. was fine.

This is a beautiful french restaurant overlooking Lake Michigan. There is plenty of free parking in the adjacent lot. We have been here many times and I highly recommend it. One should note, however, that the acoustics in the restaurant are terrible.
Everyone enjoyed their meal, particularly the soups and desserts. Standouts were the french onion soup, creme brulee, and chocolate mousse. The charcuterie board was disappointing. Portion sizes on the board were the smallest I've ever seen, and it was missing an element specified on the menu.
Service was excellent, but we felt rushed by our server, who seemed intent on moving us through the meal as quickly as possible.

We enjoyed a nice French cuisine experience at Bartolotta’s. The service was nice and made our evening very pleasant. Minor mistakes happened but they hurried to correct and make it right. Onion soup was really good 100% recommended. The coq au vin was great too, but not necessarily the best I’ve had.

The food is very good. All our dishes were delicious. The staff was all very friendly. It was fun dining experience that I recommend for a date night.
My feedback on the missing star. They could use some better NA beer choices. Many people are looking for the new craft NAs. Our waiter never asked us if we wanted any more drinks after the first one. Not a big deal. The noise level was a bit high to talk normally. Also a little colder than it needed to be. But overall a great time.

I can’t say enough good things about my experience here. The food was truly exceptional and the space is just beautiful. I felt like I was in someone’s home; it was both welcoming and intimate. The escargot and foie gras were melt-in-your mouth good, and the oeuf mollet avec cepes champignons salad was one of the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend for a special night out!

It’s pricy but it’s so worth it for a special occasion. The reason for the visit was an anniversary and the service went above and beyond to help us celebrate that. My favorite dish in the 4 courses was the sea scallops. Perfect crust with an excellent wine pairing. Will be coming back at some point hopefully with a better view of the lake.

Dining at the Lake Park Bistro is like finding Paris in Milwaukee.
It's always busy here, but the excellent wait staff make you feel like the most important person in the restaurant. They are attentive and helpful, never rushed.
We love to come about an hour before sunset, when the lovely French ambiance is complemented by the changing light over Lake Michigan.
The food is always excellent-- the sea scallops are plump, juicy, and tender.
We always finish with their creme brulee, so extraordinary that you feel transported to the Champs Elysee.

Pretty disappointed. Went to celebrate our anniversary and the food was so-so. Rabbit pasta was tough and I was brought the wrong main dish. Thought the standards were higher here but it will take some doing to get us to return. They made up for things a bit by providing a complimentary glass of wine.

This place is truly magical. Upon entry you are greeted with an upscale yet simple mid century lake cottage vibe. We came here last night for a birthday and we’re luckily seated next to the window with a beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Our servers Heavin and Kimmy we’re very kind and knowledgeable and were attentive to our needs.
Lets talk drinks. The cocktail menu was well por portioned with quality ingredients and the drinks we ordered we’re on point. I recommend the pear martini.
As far as food goes the bread for bread service tasted as it was baked the day we arrived. I ordered the hangar steak and substituted the fingerling potatoes for the fries (good choice). The steak melted in my mouth like butter and the potatoes tasted like my great aunt’s that she would make for family meals during the summer. I don’t even have a great aunt. The point i’m making is the meal i had here takes you places and paints pictures in your head and creates memories i don’t actually have. Hats off to the chef’s and kitchen.
For dessert we had the warm apple cake with the coñac ice cream. The cake was delicious and the ice cream had just the right amount of flavor to not make it feel like you’re eating a scoop of Hennessy. First time here, and certainly not our last.

We (my partner and I) have eaten at two other Bartolotta restaurants and have had Lake Park Bistro on our list to try out. We had 5:45 reservations on a Saturday; from seating through paying, the night was two and a half hours.
Lake Park Bistro has “award-winning cuisine” and is a “premier dining” destination per their website. This description and the cost put this in the fine dining category of a restaurant.
In fine dining, we look for an experience of creativity using quality ingredients, creating flavors and wine pairings in a unique location with attentive service. These experiences can be very expensive, but you should be able to find quality and value within the $200 to $300 per person range. To gauge value, we couple this standard cost with the location, food, and service. This is similar to going to a concert or other unique event.
We chose Lake Park Bistro to celebrate my birthday; this was our experience and observations.
Location & Space
- Unique and beautiful location perched on a hill overlooking Lake Michigan. It was a waxing gibbous and slightly cloudy night, so not bright. This would be an amazing experience on a cloudless full moon night.
- There was ample parking close to the entrance. This was nice as it was a very windy and cold night.
- Inside, the space was interesting, with good spacing between the tables, so it did not feel cramped with ample private space.
- The room had a lot of echo, making conversation difficult across the table and difficult to hear our serving team.
Food
- We like doing the Chief’s tasting menu with wine pairing. The tasting menu on the website did not match what was being served. The server explained they had extended the previous week’s Valentine’s week menu, which told me we ate last week’s leftovers.
- The menu was not memorable, so I will not waste time reviewing its entirety. Here are the highlights.
- The scallop was mushy and overcooked. It’s hard to correlate, but the next day, my partner’s stomach was in distress.
- The tenderloin was cooked medium-rare; the color was a pale pink, lacking any juices or taste.
- The wine pairing was adequate and slightly off.
- The double chocolate and port desert were good with a miss on the port pairing. The port was soft and should have been much bolder, given the chocolate’s amount and richness.
Service
- Utensils were swapped between courses, which was a nice surprise as, based on the service and initial food quality, we were expecting to be asked to keep a single set throughout the meal.
- It took 45 minutes for the first course to come out.
- The wine was served 5 to 10 minutes before the food delivery for each course. This issue is because half of the wine was chilled, which warmed when we received our food, killing the pairing experience.
- The meal took over 2.5 hours from seating to finishing due to course delays. This would not have been an issue if we did not feel rushed when they dropped off the check with the final dessert course - Tacky.
- While leaving, they lost my coat because the person checking coats forgot to take the tag. They took me back to the coat check to sort through everyone’s coats to find mine, again Tacky.
Minor but noticeable, the staff at every other fine dining experience did a little something to recognize our birthdays. When my partner made the reservation, this was known. There was little to no recognition by the staff here.
This is the third Bartolotta restaurant we have dined at. My observation is that they are corporate and serve manufactured ingredients at fine dining prices. It simply comes down to value; this value is not there. When paying fine dining prices, you expect an experience that is uniquely prepared and to a level that you cannot do at home. Bartolotta locations have a nice ambiance, but that is where the value stops.

The four-course, fixed price New Years Eve dinner was amazing! The crispy pork belly and caramel pot de creme were standouts for us. The wine pairings were great too. The service was the best part though--we had two servers who constantly checked on us for drink refills and to make sure our experience was special. Can't wait to come back next year!

We had such a lovely time at Lake Park Bistro for our New Year's Eve dinner. The service is always great, but their fixed-price, 4-course meal was an even more special experience for the holiday. I could not believe how amazing the sea scallops were. You don't usually get sea food of that quality in the Midwest, but wow, these were probably the best I have ever had. I loved the wine pairings with each course too. Excellent job, chef!
