So today we ordered 4, 2 meat meals with baby back ribs. Let’s just say when we got our food it was Horrific. The ball of ribs,
not baby back is a small ball of meat. No sauce on them whatsoever and the chicken is 4 slices of cut off meat like from a rotisserie chicken. The whole meal was just very disappointing. I took all of it back and they gave a refund. It very small portions also. Never again. I’m so lucky I have money or my kids would be eating Ramen tonight because they didn’t offer anything or even an apology. Can’t stand and cook because I had knee surgery. I wish I could have taken a picture of the ball of ribs but I was rushing trying to get the food back to them. Very rude customer service on top of the food being bad. Very very disappointing.

The mac n cheez is hit or miss! Sometimes it’s very mushy and they know it. They still serve it instead of making a new batch. I’m not sure what’s going on but the last 2 times I came in it’s been mushy. The flavor is there, the texture isn’t!

I'm not a huge fan of the place. Everything happens so quickly. You practically need to know the menu before you walk in. The vibe wasn't great.

Had to update this review from the last time we were there. It's been a couple years since I left the 5 stars. Definitely not up to that standard anymore. The only reason I left it at a 3 star was because of my previous experience hereand maybe it was just a bad day. I had the jalapeno sausage and ribs, and my wife had the jalapeno sausage and brisket. The brisket was as dry as cardboard and had no flavor, and her sausage was dry and overcooked. My ribs were cooked right, but had little to no flavor. I had to wait for more sausage to come out, so mine was actually good, but I had to wait til we were both done eating the rest of our meal before I got it because they forgot about us. Next time I'll probably just go to mission.

We got 2 meat plates with 2 sides each; one brisket and one ribs.
My wife requested her dinner roll be up- charged to a jalapeno corn bread yet she received neither.
Brisket and Ribs were tender and juicy but unfortunately, both were also embarrassingly under seasoned. The brisket had no crust to speak of! Without a crust, it's pretty much just a piece of beef isn't it? Our sides were just ok as collard greens are NOT supposed to taste cloyingly sweet and corn bread should not feel refrigerator cold by the time it hits my plate. Mac and cheese was good.

A staff member told us the cook studied in Texas for two years but as Texans, we feel he should have made it four.

Recently my husband and I joined our daughter and her fiancee for a wedding taste testing. This was our first time here and we highly recommend this place. We will be returning for the pulled pork, house sweet sauce, homemade KFC like coleslaw and the white cheddar mac & cheese.

UPDATE: 07/16/2025 We have returned many times since our first visit so we can try other menu items. Our kids and us highly recommend the chicken strips and crinkle cut fries. They use a house seasoning on the fries that is just right and the battered chicken has great flavor. The service & food has been over the top every visit. It's nearly an hour drive one-way for us from our house and often we drive there just for lunch and return. YES, IT IS THAT GOOD! Both my husband and I have their t-shirts/logo to help spread the word.

Where do I even start..? Beef Butter BBQ is a wonderful establishment with AMAZING food. They have meat for sale by the LB. Lots of choices to choose from. Cute little TV’s with pretend fire places going and the atmosphere and decors was overall really really enjoyable. My wife & I got the brisket, ribs, apple beans, white cheddar Mac n cheese & the sweet corn bread. All are delicious…. But the BEST was the brisket hands down and HIGHLY recommend! Don't get the hype. Food was just okay. Sides were by far better then the meat (got a 4 person meal). Brisket and Pull Pork had a very "steamed to keep warm" texture and no smoke flavor. I must say that I am from Texas. And, I have been to many different BBQ places throughout several states. This place doesn't disappoint your beef pallet. It will leave you in need of a nice walk. I say that because, I usually eat too much considering the delicious brisket that they offer. My opinion is that it's the best thing they offer on the menu. However, that being said, the sausage is also some of the best around Madison! You will enjoy whatever you order, so by all means give them a try if you haven't already my friends. Just recently moved here and forewarning I have been spoiled with good barbecue. Well I was a little homesick and wanting some barbecue and so this was the first place I stopped in Madison. First off the help was extremely nice at least the younger lady was the older lady was in different. As for the food the mac and cheese was average for a barbecue joint. Cornbread was pretty good but it's hard to mess up cornbread. The sausage was really good but a little bit on the cold side. That can change depending on where it's at in the warmer. And as for the brisket though, the brisket was the absolute driest brisket I've ever had in my entire life. I've had better brisket from first time smokers. I've had better brisket out of an oven. If I go back it'll be to get their sausage or to pull out from their freezer that you can buy and cook yourself. I will not order the brisket from this place again

This bbq place was hiding from me! I sure would be going to it every time I had to go to Madison! We ordered the 4 people dinner and barely took leftover meat home! The brisket was so so tender and the pulled pork was very tasty too! I enjoyed the bbq sauce they had and the potato salad reminded me of the way I make it! I was shocked to see all the packaged meats that were in the refrigerators waiting to be bought and I also liked the variation they had of the carbonated beverages in the fountain and in bottles. The atmosphere was pleasant and the people were very nice. You can substitute your sides too which I appreciated very much! Oh and the homemade potato chips were delicious as well! I definitely suggest this place when you’re in the Madison area! Make sure you bring a huge appetite with you too!

I was craving bbq tonight and figured I'd order out and get a bunch of food for leftovers. I got the 3 meat with two sides, and an order of cornbread. The food was fine, but nothing special. The issue is value. I figured for 50 bucks if be getting much more than I could even think of eating. Not only did I get three small cuts off wite meat chicken and 3 ribs, with each side barely 5 bites, the $5 cornbread was a little 2" square! For $5.00? You've got to be kidding me. It wasn't even very good. It was just kinda average.

The brisket was unbelievably melt in your mouth delicious, this was my first time getting to try their 1lb beef rib I can’t tell you enough make sure you get one it was one of my favorite bites of food I’ve ever had. We knew about the jalapeño cheddar sausage and how great that was but man you choose any meat and you won’t go wrong. As far as sides I would say so far our favorites are the sweet cornbread, potato salad, Mac and cheese, and the baked beans. We look forward to trying more of the sides, but as far as either version of the key lime pies just get them and I would’ve gatekept the pecan pie but I just can’t it was absolutely the most unique and best pecan pie I’ve ever had. Never been to Wisconsin before, so had to try the cheese curds, they were delicious!
The lady serving the meat was super nice too. She gave me some extra sausage for free and replaced my beef rib unprompted because they thought the original one they gave me was too dry. The new one was definitely more moist and fattier, which I like. Amazing service!

The brisket was absolutely amazing! Very flavorful melt in your mouth awesome!

The ribs were falling off the bone. Their medium homemade BBQ sauce is really good!

The gravy for the mashed potatoes was delicious!! Wish they would have given us another half scoop of the gravy just to eat.

Fries were made fresh and brought to the table when they were done. Which is why they weren't in the picture.

Mac n cheese could have been a little warmer. Was on the cooler side.

Usually i like this place but 2 out of the 3 delivery orders I’ve placed have been just bad. Last time it was just the brisket but today the pork was hard, brisket was dry and the cornbread tased like it was days old. All of these things I’ve had before and usually enjoy. Please fix your delivery standards. It’s not fair to have customers paying 35$ for old, dry and bordering on inedible food that you’re clearly just trying to get rid of.
EDIT (since they replied): I can see when my food gets picked up and dropped off and it’s been within 45 minutes of ordering and still been old, dry and gross. Especially after seeing their response I don’t believe they actually are giving fresh food to deliveries. I’ve worked restaurant industry for years. The food I received twice had clearly sat forever (definitely over an hour) and was inedible despite receiving my order within the hour. Their response denying accountability is bothersome to say the least.

I found this place while on instacart. Instead of paying 33 percent more I picked up my order. I got all the meat, and macaroni. I bought 9lbs of meat and everything was absolutely amazing!!!!!!! Honestly, I just moved by madison and I'm from Chicago so I was really missing Chicago's good food until I found this place. The macaroni was excellent too. Decent BBQ - probably the best Texas style BBQ you can get in the Madison area. It obviously doesn't compare to Goldees, Pecan Lodge, Franklin, Terry Blacks, and others from Texas, but you arent expecting it to.

I got a beef short rib, brisket from the point, and a smoked sausage.
Brisket and short rib was a little dry around the edges, likely because it's sat in the heater for a while. I can't blame them since BBQ turnaround won't compare to certain places in Texas that have lines out the door.

Food is priced very fairly, relative to other BBQ joints. Service was great. They're accommodating and are happy to help and answer any questions. Place is well kept and decorated well. Solid for the area!

We ordered our Thanksgiving dinner from Beef Butter BBQ this year. It was amazing, especially the smoked turkey. The turkey was flavorful, moist and tender. We added ham to the order and it too was wonderful. Thanks Beef Butter BBQ!!!

By far my favorite BBQ joint in Wisconsin. Always get the fatty brisket. The sides are all excellent too. Plus they have a couple freezers full of frozen burger patties and brats that are all insanely delicious as well. Great for quick counter service/dine in or take out. I wasn't super thrilled, it was my first time there and maybe I'd give it another shot. Had the ribs, Mac and cheese and fries. Ribs were really fatty and just not a lot of flavor. Mac and cheese noodles were really over cooked. Fries were great, service was excellent. It very well could of been I just got an over fatty chunk of meat and that's not the norm

I will say the restaurant food is not the main attraction here, it’s the brats. In particular the Jalapeño Chedder that you get from the walk up freezers. Best bacon in town. The man behind the awesome brats is John. You will know who John is the second you walk in are greeted by one of the friendliest dudes ever. RIP Jim Meat Market

Ok so this was my first visit and I enjoyed it very much. The hype was a bit much though. I feel the portions for the price could have been better and maybe add some juices from the meats when served. The cheese curds were the best I've had in years and I was told they are made to order in house. Super yummy but again, a bit pricey. I will return again but I can't afford to make this a regular spot unfortunately 😕

I’m in town from Denver. Did not expect Madison BBQ to be so good, but this place nails it. Nice folk behind the counter that are happy to give you their recommendation. I had brisket and jalapeño cheddar sausage with mashed potatoes/gravy and Mac n Cheese. Sweet tea kicker. Great meal.

Very friendly and helpful staff serving up delicious BBQ. The brisket, ribs, and chicken were very tender, juicy, and flavorful. Mac & cheese, and smoked apple pie baked beans were amazing. Such a great place. Occasionally go here for lunch. Usually get the brisket (mix of fatty and normal) with pulled pork. The side options are amazing on my last trip I ordered the baked beans with apple slices and a regular corn bread. The bbq options very very good as well. Staff is quick and friendly. Check out the freezer with all kinds of sausage and tray treats.
Ordered the one meat meal. Such a great resident. Staff always goes above and beyond!

I went here with someone else they ordered the brisket with coleslaw and beans. The brisket fell apart when u picked it up beautiful smoke ring on it as well. I had the pulled pork with potato salad and jalapeño cheddar cornbread. The corn bread had the perfect amount of kick. The pulled pork was tender and juicy. The potato salad was a little bit onthe mustard side for me but paired with a bite of pulled pork with bba sauce it was perfect.

Horrible....that's all I can say. This got to go down as the worst BBQ place I have eaten.
- Brisket super dry, NO seasoning
- Chicken Breast dry, look like it was a day old NO seasoning.
- Corn Bread dry, look like it's been sitting for hours.

The food wasn’t that great. My son said his ribs were tough and kind of hard on the top portion. I got a bowl of mashed potatoes with some brisket on top. It wasn’t that good in my opinion. The wings were the best part! They aren’t cheap. The wings are almost $20.

Being on a keto diet, I greatly appreciated the choice of a side salad, which included a no-sugar added dressing.

2 meat plate, brisket and chicken. They were amazing! Staff was fabulous, asked how i wanted my brisket, i asked for lean as possible and he delivered perfectly. I had the apple pie beans, i would try a different side next time, nothing wrong just not my preference. Had the mashed potato and gravy, the mashed were good, real potatoes, but the gravy was ridiculous!!! The brisket was fabulous, great flavor even with the lean request. If im ever in Madison again, definitely going

I crave this restaurant like no other. The sweet cornbread is so, so moist. Not artificially sweet, but it does almost feel decadent like a dessert. The macaroni and cheese is silky and not overcooked. The jalapeño sausage will change your life. I rarely eat meat, but when I do, I do it here. Also, I must mention that staff are exceptionally kind and friendly.
