The food is good, but it'll cost you. The portions are just not worth the cost. I've read they give big portions, but that's just not true. Also, the service is sub-par. The 2 servers were more interested in their cell phones than anything else. Then, when my friend called one of them over for a refill on coffee, she was definitely annoyed, and then when he asked for more coffee, she looked at him like he was asking for an organ donation or something. There are better, more friendly places to eat.

Saturday, August 2025: I went here for lunch with my husband. We both had the Chicken Soup with Matzo Ball and noodles. It was delicious, warm, and just tasted like a really great chicken soup!
I ordered tuna salad on rye with a side of potato salad and my husband ordered a corned beef sandwich with a side of slaw. The tuna was light and mild. The potato salad was tasty and really creamy.
My husband said his corned beef was a little on the drier side but overall he enjoyed his sandwich. The slaw was good and better than I remembered. I love the taste of cabbage and this slaw tasted like just that- very simple with a strong cabbage flavor.
***Sunday: We left a wallet and phone at Benji's yesterday and we called this morning and they had them saved for us. We were SO appreciative!!! 5 stars for exceptional customer service!***

5 of us went to eat at 6:28pm . We walked in and the waitress said sorry our kitchen closes at 7:00 and turned us away! This has NEVER happened to us ever, anywhere! We leave great tips! This was Friday aug 9th, we are regulars there and this was the first! Very dissapointed! But they still have the best food ever!

Benji's is one of my favorite sandwiches. What's better than corned beef or a Reuben? Or both? Also I've never had the pleasure of dining in the diner but I really want to. Soup is great. Sandwiches great. Pickles, fries, slaw, it's all great. Get anything and you'll love it. They have a sandwich where the bun is potato pancakes! Also look at that club! What? Come on.

Good nosh!! I had the Brisket Melt with potato salad and it is outstanding. Potato salad made with mayo and the coleslaw was a vinegar based. Friend had the Gonzo, and equally good! Lean cuts of meat flavored perfectly with seasoning on delicious bread served with a pickle. We also tried the chocolate seltzer water- highly recommended! Will be back :-)

KUDOS TO SUE A., OUR SERVER💙🥳 My first Benji's was 1978 but it's been very infrequent cuz I'm 60 miles away, but my very elderly mom and I were driving thru Milw and it popped into our heads. SUE JUST WAS SOOO WARM AND ATTENTIVE and the food was every bit as good as it had always been. Giant matzo egg/onion pancake, mom's favorite strawberry blintzes. Leftover box🥰

We are always on the hunt for a tried and true “diner type joint” like we would go to while in New York - one of those places you go to repeatedly because the service is friendly, food is always tasty and feels a bit classically predictable for good food. I think we’ve found our Milwaukee place for that here at Benji’s! Nothing fancy - just solid menu, good food and great service! Breakfast all day, soup or deli items. We had challah French toast with strawberries, steak sandwich cooked perfectly medium rare, and the Super Hoppel Poppel.

The food is still good here, the prices have gone up too far tho. We had to split a corned beef sandwich bc just one sandwich and 2 coffees was $30, which is too much for a little diner, I think anyway. But the atmosphere and service are good, parking can be tricky depending.

Benji's Deli in Shorewood is a true vintage culinary gem. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that feels like a classic New York deli, complete with friendly staff and a mouthwatering menu.
One standout dish that I can't recommend enough is the Reuben sandwich. It’s truly delicious! The combination of perfectly cooked corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, and creamy Swiss cheese, all piled high on marble rye bread, is nothing short of heavenly. The flavors meld together beautifully, and each bite is a delightful experience. The sandwich is generously portioned, making it a filling meal that never disappoints.
The staff at Benji's are always friendly and attentive, ensuring that your dining experience is enjoyable from start to finish. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing something to go, the service is consistently top-notch.
Overall, Benji's Deli is a fantastic spot for anyone craving hearty, delicious deli fare. The Reuben alone is worth the visit, but the entire menu is filled with tempting options that will keep me coming back for more. If you find yourself in Shorewood, don't miss out on this delightful deli!

Upon entrance the guy at the counter was friendly, helpful and courteous as well as the waitress and she was extremely busy (lunch hour)but she worked it out with surprising ease! Kudos. The food was very delicious (pastrami sandwich/fries) hot and juicy and Bae had the cornbeef (grilled)sandwich to which he enjoyed. He thought the food was a bit pricey and could've used more meat but he's worth it plus moms been going to Benjis we were children so...I still love it as an adult.

Never ever thought I'd see the day, but I have no choice. This place used to be great. The chicken noodle soup was broth and noodles. That's it. One quart of cheap broth and over cooked noodles. Laughable.
The Ruben was once a proper NY style sandwich, but now it's $20 for two slices of corned beef broken up and stacked to appear like a full sandwich. Never again. I'll be sure to spread the word.

First timer. Walked in and asked, "can I see a menu" - response: "sure after you sit down." (red flag one). Sat, and while we reviewed the overpriced menu, waited...and waited some more for service. Server was not friendly...couldn't understand her either. Should have walked out after that initial comment: "we'll show you the menu after you sit down." $18 for a corn beef sandwich and $14 for a turkey sandwich. I pay these prices at manny's deli - not Shorewood Wisconsin. Overpriced, and first and last time there.... Go to Sendik's, buy better deli meats and bread - and eat for a week. And parking stunk too...

If you asked me if at 10 if I would ever stop eating kosher corned beef the answer would be no. After my last visit to Benjamin's deli, and I do me last visit. What you have when you get corned beef with no fat and no salt taste is dry tasteless beef not corned beef. I even asked for fat but no luck. Never thought I would say this but no more corned beef for me

So disappointed. This used to be as good as an average NYC deli. I was so looking forward to a thick corned beef on rye. Instead got at skinny, mediocre sandwich. And the chicken soup tasted like it came out of a can; not a carrot or piece of celery to be found. Won’t be coming back.

Have you ever heard of a breakfast and lunch diner opening at 10am?
What used to be a thriving establishment...
Since the pandemic the absent owners have maintained bankers hours with opening at 10am. This is unheard of for a diner. Unfortunately, while other places have rebounded and are thriving they have a post pandemic mindset that shows a disregard for the customer and the community they serve. This is in such contrastso to the original owners who loved to work and had created and maintained a local treasure.

$30 for a soup and sandwich was crazy. My sandwich (the Benji) was fine but not worth $20, which consisted of buttered rye bread and meat. The soup ($8 quart of 'Borsht') was too sweet and missing most of the ingredients of a Borsht (no beef no extra veggies other than cabbage) - was like a cabbage tomato soup. The included coleslaw which came with the sandwich was far too wet and in a to go container the size of a double shot glass. Id have loved the meal at $15 for a soup and sandwich, but this place has high prices and I had high expectations. Staff is very friendly.

1st visit to Benji's in many years. Used to love Benji's. Not unlike Brooklyn or Philadelphia corned beef: thick cut, some fat and a lot of flavor, just with rye bread with carraway. Plain. No sauerkraut, no cheese, no mustard.
So I ordered a plain Corned beef with kosher dill pickle, no mustard or anything else. My last visit must have been in the old times when real (Miller's german rye with carraway), and the corned beef tasted of tangy spices (garlic, cloves, peppercorn, Bay leave, mustard seed, rosemary and love!).
It was disappointing in its taste, fragrance, appearance. Compared to House of Corned Beef, on Silver Spring, it was not in the running.

All I had here was a root beer and a carrot cake but the carrot cake while unusually dense was well made with good frosting albeit a little too sweet. The root beer was mediocre. Service was fine, waiters were nice and didn't have any issues. The atmosphere doesn't aspire to much and is bland and basic. However if you are looking to just get a decent bite of something simple and small this is a fine choice.

I’ve been eating here for many years during the Benji years and have been several times since Benji sold. Today I had my usual cold matzo ball soup and not usual old lox that shouldn’t have been served and weren’t presented in the usual appealing way. Both were taken off our tab. Generally we enjoy most of what we order, excellent corn beef, best tuna fish salad anywhere, great fries, and friendly staff.

Worst experience ever with Javier! About 10 days ago my husband received a credit for 3 sandwiches that were poorly made customer service was polite that day. We went to get our sandwiches today, 6/22/23. When we asked Javier to fulfill the credit he said that our sandwiches were not made wrong and we already got them. There was a ticket on the wall with his name, number and the date (and some credits for others). He then proceeded to say the bread was large so that's why we had so little meat. He made a sample sandwich, then said he could not make our sandwiches because he needed to call the owner. He picked up the phone then said he couldn't reach the owner and again said he wouldn't make the sandwiches because our credi was not approved. At this point we are outraged and angry. We asked for a manager. My husband was told to lower his voice. At this point he was angry but not loud enough to draw attention from anyone other than those standing within conversational distance. Javierthe threatened to call the police if we didnt leave!! We refused said that he could call if he wanted since we didn't do anything wrong. He called the manager again hung up the phone more angry and said in a huff that he would just make our sandwiches even though they were made right the first time (he was not there the first time). We told him we would make a formal complaint. He then said my husband had called him names and it was on camera. We had not called him names or anything else threatening. We just asked for our credit that was hanging on the wall. We still have our $70 receipt for food from that initial day. This whole experience today felt racially motivated or flat out racist with this Javier weaponizing the police as that comment was directed at a black male. I felt embarrassed, harassed and singled out as if we were basically told we were lying or trying to get something for free. I have never done that we are an educated hard working family with jobs and a business of our own. This was one of the most insulting experiences of my life.

Breakfast was okay. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Regular diner food. But the price point would make you think you were at a Michelin star restaurant. Not worth the money. Way better places around for less

I am no expert in kosher style food, but I would hate to see this old school diner go extinct. Don't forget to grab a matzo ball soup. It is elemental.

My husband and I love your Dipper, Club, Tuna melt, and burgers! Great food! Satisfies the "I really want a good club" craving that smacks us in the face from time to time.
Update: I'm sorry I can't order from you anymore. I was ordering once or twice a month for delivery through grubhub and the drivers keep screwing up so I have to stop using the app. The restaurant is completely fine. I've always been happy with the food I've received. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time during my lunch hour to go pick up food from the deli itself, which is why grubhub-type services were so appealing. But too many times I've gotten orders really really late or, in today's case, I received someone else's Noodles and Co. order instead of my Benji's order. Too expensive and way too inconvenient to continue ordering that way.

Food was delicious as always exception the waiter. Stop by the Oakland location to order a pastrami sandwich but instead got a corn beef and when questioned; waiter goes oh it's the same as a pastrami. No it's not. Never got the sandwich I ordered. I'll stick to Port Washington location from now on.
