I am only giving this big boy a 3 star instead of a 1 because the service was top notch, our waitress was awesome, our food came out fast but the food was not very good, the cheese curds were gross and definitely not the best burger I ever I ate, plus I have had McDonald shakes better than big boy and our bill was outrageous, $80.00 for 3 people.

Haven’t been to a Big Boy since I was 16 visiting relatives in Ohio. I was so excited when I saw the Big Boy restaurant and it didn’t disappoint! Great decorations and atmosphere. We were sat, orders taken, and food received within 30 minutes. Restaurant was super busy so that’s a great turnaround in my opinion. Employees are all very nice. Would come again! :)

Good portion sizes. Tasty food. Big Daddy chocolate cake was huge. Husband liked burger. Hot dog with pretzel bun was good except no mustard, relish, mayo or any condiments other than ketchup. Asked for mayo but didn't get it. Regular fries and waffle fries were delicious and crispy. (99 cents extra for waffle fries.) Shakes were expensive given the small size ($5.99 and $6.99). Nice decor with the big boy statues.

Not much to look at from the outside but don't be fooled, this place is amazing! The food and the service were great! One man doing everything but cooking the food but he is quick and we never felt like we were waiting. The food is the star though! Went here for dinner tonight and have to say it's about time that Dells got a good restaurant. The food was great ( the big boy burger was delicious and the turkey dinner was very filling) and the service was fast and very good. Our server John was absolutely great and when he was busy. Second trip here must say it sure has changed (for the worst). Onion rings were overcooked and the bread on the patty melt was so hard I couldn't even bite it off (had to use a fork and knife to eat it. 42.00 for two burger a soda and shake ridiculous. Probably won't be back here very soon. Server was a little bit rude. Never checked on us to see if everything was alright. No wonder there was only 2 other tables with customers in the whole place. Not the food and service for a Big Boy restaurant that I remember.

There were 9 of us on Wednesday, August 20 for dinner. I couldn't finish my salad, taste seemed off. I got very sick in the middle of the night. Everyone else said food was just ok. Nothing special. Next biggest surprise was that our $132.00 receipt went through our bank for $156.01! Tried to call the restaurant when I got home, but the phone number that had been listed online was not a working phone number. I called WI Dells Chamber of Commerce. They also gave me the same phone number. I informed them that it doesn't work. I left a voicemail with corporate Big Boy, surprise, no call back either. Never. Ever. Again.

We thought this would be like the old Bob's Big Boy. But it was very disappointing. Went for chili spaghetti. This was nothing like how it used to be. It was so bad. I don't even know what kind of chili this was. Also shakes didn't come with the extra in a metal server thing like before. Super expensive. Service was slow and inaccurate. Felt like some old-school food so we went to the Big Boy in the Dells. I had to get the classic Big Boy burger and it was solid, exactly what I was expecting. Just a good diner burger that hits the spot. The fries were crispy and the chocolate milkshake was thick, just like they should be. The place has a total throwback vibe which is pretty cool. Our waitress was really friendly and the food came out fast even though it was busy. It's not a fancy meal, but it's perfect if you're with family or just want some simple comfort food that you know will be good. It also has alot of history too it, come for the experience stay for the food.

The service was horrible. Very rude staff and kind of rocky. We got 5 burgers and chicken strips with water to drink and the bill was over $150. All of the burgers were cold as hell and just slopped together. Fries tasted like they were yesterday's fries warmed up. The food is very subpar. I just got back from Ohio and was at a Frisch's Big Boy. Got 2 burgers, fries, salad bars and chicken strips and fries plus 3 sodas for around 50. And the food was fantastic. I would rather eat gas station food than waste my money here again. It tastes about the same

It does not have the standard menu I'm accustomed to, so don't expect to get a brownie dessert with ice cream and chocolate drizzle, BUT they had The Olga's Original with curly fries on the menu and I haven't had one of those in years. I’m a big fan of Big Boy - and this is probably the coolest one I’ve ever been to - almost a love letter to a historic part of Americana.

Also the only Big Boy I’ve ever seen with a full bar and THC drinks. Really good food and great service; highly recommended - go out of your way to visit if you’re a Big Boy fan.

Nice place, I believe if I ask for bbq sauce the restaurant has the obligation to let me know you're going to charge me for it. Not just put on the bill. Although $1.25 is not a deal breaker. For my son's 16th birthday we did a burger hop. We ordered a burger, ate and moved on. Big Boy was our first stop. The guy seemed surprised we only wanted a single burger but when you plan to eat many, a whole one is out of the picture. We wanted just the burger but didn't realize it came with fries. They even cut the burger in half for us when they delivered it. We ordered the big boy and it tastes a lot like a big mac but better. It was delicious and although we were trying to save the room for more burgers, we did eat some fries. They were also delicious! They are a bit more pricy than some but the burger is good and we've had some of their more specialty burgers before and they were excellent as well. Definitly a large burger, go hungry!

Ate breakfast here Aug 15. The omelets were good. The bacon was extra thick, some of the best breakfast bacon I have seen. However, DO NOT EAT THE PANCAKES. The pancakes are pre made frozen, rubbery, and disgusting. The rest of the breakfast was ordinary, eggs, hash browns, etc.

The Big Boy theme, and atmosphere inside was pleasant.

Hit it and quit it. Once and done. Not worth a revisit.

So many issues. We had 7 people in our party but were charges the 20% up charge for parties 8 and over. They had my daughter in a wheelchair sign bill while on way to restroom and she didn’t catch the mistake. They have no working phone number listed to contact them. Many menu items unavailable. I only ordered chilli and was served alone before appetizer several people in our party served later than the final person served when we all had finished. Coffee was awful they made a new pot they said but was worse. One of the worst meals of my life so disappointing. We did not have the chance to eat here last time we visited Wisconsin Dells but since we were able to come back again for the kids birthday we made sure this was the 1st place on our checklist to experience. Not at all like other Big Boys I’ve been do (like Marquette Michigan). Seems more like a bar than a diner. Do not like mayo sauces so ordered Patty melt and $3 more onion rings (instead of fries). Was assured by server it would not have the zesty sauce that appetizer order of Onion Rings would have. Food runner brought with sauce with cup leaning sideways with both the sandwich bread and onion rings having the zesty sauce on it. Server took it back in. When it came back out rye bread not grilled (seemed like perhaps they pulled out middle and stuck it inside new bread. Onion rings had burnt spots…server said that was normal (first plate didn’t seem to have the burnt spots). They were exceedingly crunchy and lacked flavor. No one should buy an appetizer order of these (or add on a side for $2.99 to sandwich) ) if this is the norm. Very disappointing and staff seemed to not care, as they have many tourists coming and thinking it will be what Big Boy was and/or at other locations.

This was our first time visiting Big Boy in the Dells, and we absolutely loved it! The food was fantastic, the burgers were juicy and flavorful, and the fries were perfectly crispy. We also tried their cheese curds, and they came in perfect cubes – never seen them like that before, but they were incredible!

The atmosphere is really unique, with a fun retro vibe and tons of Big Boy statues and memorabilia – it almost feels like a little nostalgia museum, and it's super photo-worthy!

Definitely a spot we’ll be coming back to whenever we’re in the area. Highly recommended!

They were accommodating and the waiter was attentive. Having said that:

1. Bathrooms were filthy - for a place that restricts public access to restroom (which I agree with) unsure who went- to -town within the few hours this place was open. SOLUTION: Assign an employee to the designated restroom every two hours.

2. Fly orgy - if flies are having a party in front of the customers, I can't imagine what's going on behind the scene (kitchen). Any party of 2 should sit at the bar, but the booths were fly central. Not a fan of the idea of a fly landing on our food after having settled on a dead mouse/or patrons. SOLUTION: keep kitchen doors/screens closed. Hang fly traps. Wipe down table, seats, and under the table after a party leaves. They do this at the middle level restaurants.

3. Atmosphere - the room was stuffy, and crowded.
SOLUTION: more lights to brighten it up, fans on during operation hours, air purifier, install mirrors for wider space. Febreeze plugs in washroom and lighter scented for main dining space (especially near waiting space). W

4. Food - just did not taste good because it lacked flavor. Are you reheating frozen foods?
SUGGESTIONS: if so, kick it up by seasoning the burger patty. Toast the inside portion of the bun with butter garlic ). Outside of bun should remain soft, and warm.

Through some Popeyes type seasoning on your fried chicken breast, and other chicken menu options.
Research how to advance menu options to the next level.

Alcohol beverages were dry.

Also, we were charged extra for our group (not to our knowledge).
SOLUTION: be courteous to customer needs. This means, if the employee sees a group (that will be charged additional fees), please inform the group prior to seating about the charge. This allows the customers to make an informed decision.

Lastly, I've worked as a consultant for start up restaurants. After reading this, and if you choose to respond, keep it short and simple, example:
"Thank you for your feedback. We will consider the changes to improve the overall quality."

Reason being is, long winded excuses/explanations do not cut it with current competition. Create a timeline for change, set actionable goal deadlines for a month, and a day from reading this review.

First time at a Big Boy. Our California neighbors raved about Big Boy and would go often despite the 90 minute drive.

While this isn’t the SoCal Big Boy it’s a fantastically fun experience. Great atmosphere and food.

Highly recommend the atmosphere and my main meal was a solid burger…but we had the worst cheese curds of all time (they weren’t cheese curds but slightly floured- not breaded - cheese cubes). Take those off the menu and my review would jump way up…as he atmosphere was fun (& we have some nostalgia for my old neighbors who are 1800 miles away).

The only Big Boy in Wisconsin, this franchise of yore once was all over the state and in the midwest. I'm glad to see that someone brought the franchise back to life. Our grand kids lived all the themed big boy statues. The food was very good and felt like eating at a fast food joint with I was a kid in the 80s. Never again. It was HOT inside the restaurant. When coming in from the heat you want to cool down not over heat while eating on a HOT summer day. There was a strong smell of body odor in the place, not really making you that hungry after you ordered your meal..My sunshine burger was way over cooked egg. The point of an egg on a burger is the creamyness the egg adds. We had an order of curly fries asked for ranch and got charged $1.99 for it. I wanted to get a side salad instead of fries he stated No. so I had onion rings and extra 2.99 or .99 cents for fries. I would PASS on this place. It is NOT anything like an in and out.

Breakfast was good, waiter asked how we were doing and gave refills. I had one of the omelettes, "the works" and it was like a skillet from where I'm from. Pancakes were great (no butter at the table, strangely). My partner tried the Oreo pancakes, and that was tasty and unique.

I was a bit hesitant when I got there, as the reviews were not all that great, but it sounds like it's mostly their lunch / dinner menu that has mixed reviews.

The statues might be something people recall and like, but they just look strange to me.

My daughters and I stopped here on the last day of our trip and this ended up being the worst place we had during our visit to the dells.
The bathrooms smelled like a porta potty and the food was almost inedible!
The cheese curds were weird and seemed like fake cheese, buns on the burgers were burned, lettuce was mushy and the fries seemed like frozen fries with no seasoning.

My wife and I went there for lunch, ordered spaghetti, with marinara and a big boy wrap. We'll the spaghetti had a small amount of sauce on the pasta but needed more. The big boy wrap was nothing but un seasoned chopped hamburger with lettuce and a splash of Thousand Island dressing. The fries that came with the meal were the bottom of the bag small pieces. No one came to as how our meal was, if we needed anything else. We finished our food which was mediocre at best, and when done, we had to wave to the server just to get the check. I told the guy that there were issues with our meals, and he said there was nothing he could do. So I said send over the manager, he told me he was the manager, and walked away. I put the money on the table, and we left. We will never go back. There is way better elsewhere, do take a chance.

I HIGHLY recommend coming here! The service here is by far some of the best service I have ever gotten in Wisconsin Dells and I’m local so I have been to many establishments in the dells area. They are super friendly helpful aware and quick on their feet to get you everything you want. Me and my family definitely will be coming back here and recommending it to the people we know!

My spouse was excited to see a Big Boy in the Dells as the ones in Hawaii are awesome. What a disappointment!! The buns were so dry!! The service was terrible. Waiter never came back to ask how everything was or to see if we needed drink refills. I will say the retro decor was cute. Food and service definitely needs help!!

Yep! It’s the real deal here. Especially if you have had Bobs Big Boy if your life’s experience. Being in Wisconsin I had to opt for the cheese curds. I didn’t have high expectations but they were over the top GOOD! Order them. And the BIG Boy classic burger was done perfectly just the way I remember it. Now days you can even get a beer or glass of wine. Prices were reasonable as well . Add this place to have a great meal.

Went twice. Not impressed. Both times wait staff had a hard time getting the order. Strawberry pie was a raw dough and gel filling. Had gotten the chicken salad. Salad was super wet and tasted funny. Ended up with food poisoning. Continually out of product to make food. The turkey Ruben is not a ruben, no sauerkraut or thousand island. Not interested in going back. Bathrooms were Pepto pink and the two times I have been there only 1 stall had toilet paper in it. Honestly go to take pictures but DONT EAT

Ambiance was great, service was great. Food was gross. I had turkey with potatoes and a salad. Took a few bites of each and that was enough. Husband got chicken strips that were supposed to be hand breaded, but they weren’t. He didn’t finish his food either. We did not complain because it wasn’t a cooking issue, it was a quality issue. $50 for food that tastes like reheated frozen food.

We visited on a Friday afternoon with a group of four and were met with a mixed experience. The restaurant doesn’t use a reservation system, and when we arrived, there were already sizeable groups waiting to be seated. The wait time wasn’t unreasonable (we were seated in about 10 minutes) but there was noticeable miscommunication between the servers about who should be seated where, which created a bit of confusion and delayed the process.

Once inside, we found the air conditioning to be insufficient, especially given the number of people dining. It felt warm and stuffy, which made it a bit uncomfortable during the meal.

As for the food, it was fine, but nothing stood out. Most of our party ordered hamburgers, which were decent but not particularly memorable. One person ordered the fish sandwich, which unfortunately missed the mark and is not something we’d recommend.

Overall, while the staff were polite and doing their best under what seemed like a busy shift, the experience left us feeling underwhelmed. It wasn’t a disaster by any means, but it didn’t leave a strong impression either. We’re unsure if we’ll return, and if we do, it would definitely be at a quieter time of day in hopes of a smoother and more comfortable visit.

This Big Boy is themed well. Had a nice retro feel. Lots of Big Boys Memorabilia and many different Big Boy statues. The food was good. We had chicken and a house salad. The waitress was very nice and welcoming.

This place pays honor to the chains history. I work in hospitality and I often ask the chefs I've worked with what would a big Mac taste like if made with premium ingredients. One suggested finding a big boy.

They somehow found a way to make everything flavorless. The coffee was flavorless. The biscuits and gravy were flavorless, after I had to ask for the gravy that came with my meal because they forgot it, and the eggs were flavorless. The only thing that had flavor was the applesauce which I'm sure they got out of a can, and the bacon, which thank God they didn't mess up. 0 out of 10 would not recommend. My husband and I both got the Big Boy burger. It was messy, but tasted amazing!! He got the loaded waffle fries which were great with the 4 cheese. I got the onion rings, they were quite good. They tasted like bar onion rings. My step-daughter got the spaghetti off of the kids menu, she said that was amazing as well, and that the noodles were perfect. She also really liked the M&M milkshake, "it was tasty."

Never been to Big Boy before, it was delicious, and great service. Couple of new trainees when we went, but they did great! It was the only place we went with perfect cube cheese curds, not sure if that's normal or not but they were still amazing! They have so many statues, I believe the most of anyone anywhere? Genuinely bad. There’s no way this is a legitimate restaurant- I’ve had better food at school cafeterias. I am not a picky eater by any means but the food was legitimately bad. The fries were from a frozen bag and barely cooked. My husband got a spotted cow and it very clearly was NOT a spotted cow. Our service was terrible, only saw our server to get our order and then had to get helped by other staff while ours was drinking something out of a mug behind the bar at one point chatting. Had to go up to the bar to pay because we were waiting for our check to get picked up. It was a very uncomfortable vibe with the staff as well.

My friend and I waited 10 minutes to be seated. It wasn't busy and several employees walked past us, without acknowledgement. We admired all the Big Boy sculptures & other nostalgia. The cool restaurant decor is very retro in red & black. There was a bucket of menus on the entrance counter, so we took a look. As excited as we were to dine here, the menu was unimpressive, and not what we remembered. The prices were tourist inflated as well. If we had been waited on, we probably would've been satisfied with the food & experience. Instead, we left, and went to Ponderosa, which was awesome!

I was excited to try this place since it had opened. Man what a let down. We tried a bacon cheese burger and a bacon chicken ranch sandwich. The burger wasn’t good at all. The bacon was ok. The chicken was over cooked and dry. The buns were dry. Our server was a nice guy but we got our food from someone else and he came over about 10 secs after that. Never saw him again till we were done eating. No refills no hey how’s your food. At the end he did ask and I said it was ok. He said so it was good enough then. I guess if that’s what you want for customers. I know I’ll never go back. Would have had a better meal at Culver’s or even McDonald’s for half the price.

They only have 2 highchairs in the entire restaurant. Considering the dells is a family destination, it was very inconvenient. One family was using both highchairs, so we left as my 19 month old daughter cannot sit on her own.

They also have a sign on the door that says no public restrooms… how is a restaurant not going to allow patrons to use their restroom? Absurd.

Big Boys had the best fries I've ever had! And that's saying something. I also had a Big Boy Burger which I haven't had since the 80s. It was the almost the same as I remember, with the special sauce making it very special, lol. I am so happy that I went there. There was a really nice waiter who went above and beyond, John. He made a special dessert for my mom which I was very thankful for. It was kind of funny to see a bar there, and the seating is minimal, but it is well worth it, like I said.

Walked in, was handed a breakfast menu. We knew our order within 2 minutes. We waited 15 minutes for a server just to tell us they just stopped serving breakfast at 11:30am mind you it was 11:31am when they told us this and I explained to them we have been ready to order for 15 minutes, they just were too busy to assist us..and they still couldn't put our order in, so we left!
