Best supper club I've ever been to. Started off with a very positive greeting when we walked in. Every employee was extremely pleasant - seriously! Food was amazing in every way. Had an awesome time celebrating my birthday and came away with some extras. Highly recommend the cajun potato wedges & Cajun broiled haddock. You get what you pay for. We'll be back!

Again, the black otter continues to fail. The owners continue to fail by only having one server on duty and we were not able to get any type of refills during meal due to how busy they were and only one server working.

Owners maybe should also expand their dinning area to seat more people so you’re not waiting over an hr to be seated. But they rather expand the bar area!

It’s amazing to sit and watch at least 50 to 75 people walk to the front door turn around and leave the few times I’ve been there.

Don’t ever plan on going back, very disappointed even though they do have good food. Between not enough staff , poor service, and being rushed at dinner to leave because they need the tables and the insane amount of time you have to wait for a table which is at least an hr, is insane.

A smart business owner might just build a new place with large dinning area and take advantage of the people they’re losing when they find out they have to wait an hr or more for a table.

Another reviewer mentioned the mess hall experience - that’s intentional and how staff are trained for quick turnaround to ensure as many tables as possible can be flipped for profit. Despite what Geri asserts. Ask me how I know. That’s always been our experience as well, so we began doing takeout since the food really is the best in the area. Now they only allow takeout on Fridays, so we likely won’t be getting around to visiting except occasionally. Substitutions or custom orders (see “hold the mushrooms”) are also not allowed by Geri because, as she says, “I can do whatever I want because I can afford to lose people who don’t like it since our food is so good.” And the food is exquisite. It really is, but trust me when I say that despite what is publicly posted - you are just dollars signs, not customers. I would not be surprised if a many reviews here were farmed.

The flavor if the prime rib is so very good.Just the right seasoning and tasty au jus. It doesn't taste like it's been marinated so long you don't taste the beef like some. I ordered mine rare, and my husband ordered his medium. Surprisingly his was a little more tender. Neither cuts were tough though.

We went out to celebrate - there was 5 of us. We had called to find they do not take reservations. So some arrived before our intended 'eat time' to register, when all were there the waitress took our orders - a bit later we were seated. Meals were delicious & very satisfying. We visited the staffed soup/salad bar [think like a sub shop - you point to what you want & a staffer puts it in bowls] I liked this as 'open buffets' you don't know what's happened before you got there. Much more sanitary. I had stuffed steak - gooey cheese, garlic was moist & tender with crispy outside/tender insides sweet potatoes fries with honey-mustard YUMMY. It comes with sautéed mushrooms, which I got on the side to give you my spouse. 😉 OH and if celebrating a BD show id at check in for a slice of cheesecake for dessert & to pick a gift card for future visits. If being sung to is your thing- they do that - if prefer not just tell your waitstaff & they won't do. We were there on an early SUN eve, steady but not to noisy that you could still hear each other talk. Staff was excellent - not intrusive but present & personable - & took our pictures! Prices for what I ordered are mid-high. A great experience from arrival to departure! 🙏💞

My wife and I have been going here for years. About 2020 they did a nice remodel and have a salad bar where they make a salad of your choice. Includes soup as well. I got the ayce fish and my wife got the prime rib. So much fish I couldn't possibly order more. My wife's prime rib was cooked to perfection. Service after dinner was a little slow, but they were super busy. The owner asked us about the experience as we left, which was awesome. I give the Black Otter the highest rating possible. If you haven't been here or it was over 5 years ago, it is well worth a visit. Get there early for best parking and a shorter wait.

Great staff. Love the salad bar. My 32oz prime rib was overcooked and unbelievably salty. My husband's 18 oz filet was two 9 oz butterflied and under cooked. He ordered medium and got rare. His steak was also overly salty. Brought the leftovers home for the dog. Won't be back.

I have never wrote a review before but I was so taken aback by our experience. Walked in checked in and went to bar to order drink. Waitress came to take our order and I asked if I could have a minute to order and look and wait for our drink to be made.. not even 2 mins later she was back. I ordered but my partner got flustered on her tone for our order and her urgency and he blurted the first thing on the menu which was not what he wanted. She came back within 5 mins to seat us. We dropped off our drinks and went to salad bar. If you have ever been in a mess hall in basic training that was our experience. Order order order.. quick quick quick.. at the end your plate is put on a ledge for pick up. We got back to our table and I counted the tables ups. 4- tables of 4. 1 table of one, 2 tables of 3. Counted 5 waitress or staff for the tables. Nobody seated up stairs in dining room. Food came before salad even half done. Waitress checked in half way on steaks and offered boxes and I expressed I would like to see in a bit. Back again a few mins later and offered a box. I said yes in the end we would be taking one. I asked for a second drink and she said quite honestly that it would be a long time so it would be best to move the bar. I hadn’t even finished half my meal. I tried asking if I could have one additional drink to finish my meal with and she said she had to speak to her manager. Came back and said it would take a long time but she would do it. I was extremely embarrassed she had to go ask a manager for permission to serve me a second drink to finish my meal and I told her to never mind. We finished 12 mins later and went to pay our bill. I counted 15 patrons in the bar either having a drink or waiting to be seated. Hostess asked about our experience and we explained and she had rehearsed answer of sorry to hear that. Not once asking a detail or what could we have done different or tell me about your concern. I had previously been been a waitress for 10 years and understand the complexities of customer service and 100% appreciate pleasing everyone. This experience was a well oiled fast moving army mess hall experience that I don’t ever want to experience again on a Tuesday night at 4pm for over $150.00. Nice job on your unpleasant, unrelaxing gem in a small town supper club experience. I was totally looking forward to this one.

Great food. Had to come here and try the prime rib. I got the king size as I was planning my meal for the next several days. It was as good as I was told. They could give a little bigger plate when you get the large size. I now have enough meat for at least 5 more meals. They also do some really nice things for your birthday including a birthday shot if you want one. Pick an envelope with a gift certificate to come back in 60 days. And a piece of cheese cake.

The Black Otter was recommended to us by a friend who is a foodie. Felt pretty confident we would be pleased. Unfortunately, no. My husband and I both ordered queen-cut prime rib. I was going to keep my disappointment to myself so my husband could enjoy his. But then I saw him hacking off huge pieces of fat. And after fat and bone there was 1/3 of the cut left. I asked him how it was, and he said dry and flavorless, the au jus tasted like bouillon cubes. We would have said something if our server had ever come back.
She asked if we wanted boxes. She looked down at the plate of fat confused but didn’t ask about it, or ask if everything was ok. Obviously, most people have enjoyed their experience, we just weren’t one of them.

Went to the Black Otter as one of several supper club stops. Food was good, service was good, but I thought their process took away from the experience of dinner. We went to the bar where we were provided menus and our orders were placed. When a table opened up we were taken back to it and subsequently went to the salad bar. Dinner was subsequently brought out. Missing from the dinner experience was that time when you are initially seated, you pick at a bread tray and relish tray while waiting for salads. Food was good but I didn’t like making the dining experience efficient. Prices were reasonable also.

Salad bar and appetizers were good, when our main course steaks came out they were flavorless, and the meat was almost gray. I mentioned it to our waitress who offered to take it back and remake it, which I accepted. A short time later, she came walking back out with a to go box and the same steak which the kitchen sent back out and said there’s nothing wrong with this. And they offered to take $5 off my bill which I felt was a slap in the face. This was my first experience there and will more than likely be my last after that experience. My wife and I visited Black Otter for the very first time. We enjoyed the experience. The food was very good. I had prime rib, which was about as good as I've had. This was my family and I's first time here, and it was fantastic! I had the stuffed tenderloin, and the steak was.so tender and full of flavor. The Black Otter is over an hour from home for us, but is ALWAYS worth the drive! It is a family favorite for special celebrations! Tonight, we celebrated my son-in-law’s 33rd and my surrogate grandson’s 40th birthdays! The Black Otter made it even more special with birthday shots, cheesecake, and gift certificates for the birthday boys! The salad bar is a meal in itself! The porterhouse, tenderloin, and ribeyes that our party of 8 enjoyed tonight were all cooked to perfection! And, my grandson loves their Mac & cheese bites! The bartender was great, very friendly. Salad bar was the best salad bar that I’ve had at a supper club and soup was very good. Everyone loved their steak, was very tender and reasonable.

Loved our time in Hortonville for the evening. I like to get the full experience of WI living when visiting town. We heard this was the best supper club near the Fox Valley from our family in Oshkosh and it didn’t disappoint. Thanks for the amazing steak and ribs. The old fashioned salad bar was totally my jam too. We will be back!!

My wife and I just ate at the Black Otter. Excellent place! We had the large tenderloin and large ribeye. Both cooked perfectly! Highly recommend this place. Plus the owner Bob is a great looking fella. lol Luv ya Bob 😎
