We were blown away by our breakfast. The quality of ingredients and variety of menu items make this place special. While indulgent, the morning bun was lovely paired with their solid espresso. Don’t sleep on the Chihuahua Omelette because it’s amazing!

We have been coming here for a few years and this place is a MUST stop for any Door County trip. Locally sourced food. Incrediblely delicious! Ellison Bay's best kept secret, but quickly becoming a hot spot!

Highly recommend! A real gem. Great menu featuring breakfast standards like pancakes, eggs dishes, and pastries, as well as healthy items such as grain bowls. Fresh local produce and knowledgable servers enhance the experience. Bright sunny interior. Did not take long to get a table on a Sunday morning in the fall.

Enjoyed the gluten free / healthier breakfast menu. Service is usually pretty helpful and fast. The only thing that would make it better if they offered iced latte drinks. The sweet potato hash was nice and light breakfast option. I recommend that dish if you do want a heavy breakfast.

We were big fans of the Racine Blue Bear restaurant but the new location in Ellison Bay has even better ambience and more space! Similar fantastic menu! Anyone with gluten free, vegan or vegetarian needs will find a ton of delicious options that are very clearly marked. The gluten free beignets are to die for!! Love this place!! Will return as often as we can!

We met our friends there yesterday for breakfast. Two of us had the mushroom omelet which was delicious. Two had the corned beef hash which was skimpy and the eggs were overdone. My main complaint was our waitress; she was rude and very unfriendly. When it came time to pay the bill, she was very impatient with me as I tried to pay the bill with a credit card. I normally pay cash but decided to pay with my card. If I ever came back and saw her, working that day, I would turn around and go somewhere else. I also found our bill for 4 very expensive for breakfast.

I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict and my wife had the EB Breakfast on late September Tuesday morning at about 8:30. Both meals were excellent and freshly prepared to our liking. The bacon and potato pancakes were done to a perfect crispness, the sauce had a nice bite from the habanero peppers and poached eggs were perfect. The restaurant was quiet as was expected for Door County at this time in late September and the service was spot on. The price for the two of us including our 25% tip, was $73.00 and worth every cent!
For those that complain about prices as several reviewers did, review the menu. This is a farm to table not a cookie cutter breakfast joint. Everything is freshly prepared using fresh ingredients.
We both agree that we will be back for another morning meal and I want to try one of the pizzas for an evening meal before our trip ends.

Great service. Great gluten free options. We had the beignets, and they were out of this world! I also tried the dark chocolate sea salt mocha, which was fantastic. My husband especially like the gluten free corn muffins. What a gem of a place in Ellison Bay! We definitely will return.

I really wanted to love this place it was so cute and the Atmosphere was nice, but could not hear our waitress at all bc she was so soft spoken and she was not very friendly. At one point she even told my son to please be quiet and he was just trying to talk to her. It’s almost like she didn’t want us there because we had kids with us. If they don’t want kids there they should have that on the website. Food was okay not amazing nothing I would run back for. The gluten free corn bread was not great.

I can’t say more about this place other than excellent. We have been here twice, once a couple years back and again on this trip up to The Door, and honestly both meals blew me away. This time I ordered the corned beef hash and wow! Unlike any corned beef hash I have ever had but in a good way! First of all it’s really corned beef, like a piece of tender, delicious, slow cooked corned beef, paired with perfectly cooked potatoes and onions. So good I ate the entire thing and I usually don’t eat the entire breakfast. We started with their morning bun, and that was melt in your mouth unbelievably good. I brought the rest of what was left home to my kids, (and we live in Chicagoland) and after heating it in the microwave for 20 seconds they had the same experience! Dip a little bit of that into their jam, puts it over the top. So good! My husband got the smoked salmon Benedict and he was blown away by the flavors! Oh, not to mention the drinks! I ordered the smoked cherry latte, and the flavors were complex and different but very yummy! This place makes us wonder why you would ever try any other place for breakfast!! Highly recommend going here! Even if you are staying in the southern half of Door County, take the drive!! It will be worth it!

To be clear from the beginning, we were unable to eat here, so this is in no way about the food. We heard this place was pet-friendly, but it turns out their patio is not open until noon. So if you want to eat outside, or bring your dog, please note you cannot do that for breakfast. Kind of strange to us that this was not mentioned anywhere.

GLUTEN FREE FRIENDS 😍 oh my word was that the most amazing breakfast I have had. To start we got a macchiato and a bourbon vanilla latte, to go with that we ordered the GLUTEN FREE Beignets that were truly amazing. Then we moved onto the main meal and had the Blue Bear Benedict which was ALSO gluten free. Soooo many options for GF friends. Cannot recommend this little place enough, a must hit if you are visiting door county!

Nickeled and dimed. Menu clearly states sub for cheesy potatoes for 3.5 not only was this asked for but also it was pointed to on the menu. Instead charged $9. Charged an extra $5 for 3 slices of unseasoned tempeh and a scoop of plain avocado when the menu reflects $2 in another spot. Brought this to their attention and we stated our frustration because we were given confirmation of our choices but then surprised by extra fees. We were given $5 off but then told next time we should pay better attention… 100 better options on the peninsula that I would recommend in every way. From a cost stand point, from a quality stand point and definitely from a customer service stand point.

While Visiting Door county, my husband and I stayed in Ellison Bay so we decided to try Blue Bear for breakfast before starting our adventure for the day. The breakfast was so good. And Fresh. You could absolutely tell they took the time to make our food fresh and homemade. I had the vanilla bourbon latte as well and it was so good! Our server was so friendly and even explained to us how they source their ingredients locally to keep it as fresh as possible. We will be back!!

This restaurant is NOT friendly for anyone with food allergies as they would not accommodate simply not putting aioli on a wrap as requested because they don't do "substitutions". The server was completely unapologetic and just walked away. We have never, ever had a bad experience anywhere in Door County so this was very disappointing. For those prices, you would think they could simply not add an aioli.

All of the food here is delicious, and they do a great job of creating unique items to choose from. The service however is very unwelcoming. From the second we walked in the door, none of us felt like they wanted us there by what looked like the owner, and our server. It made the dining experience very uncomfortable. I would second guess coming here again.

We were very excited about this one- but it was Mediocre at best- not worth the higher price point. Not sure who they hired to take photos of their food but thats not even close to what our food looked like. The menu has potential but lacks in delivery. The main hostess was loudly rude to her employees in front of guests.
The garbage pile was missing hollandaise and everything on it was just “ok”. Soggy potatoes, bacon wasn’t good. The Benedict potato pancake was hard and mostly flavorless. The deep fried poached egg was overcooked on the inside and soggy on the outside. Ultimately not very tasty. It took 20+ mins for the food and our waitress didn’t check back on us afterward. We ate what we could. Nothing was overly horrible or gross- but nothing was really “good”, just Disappointingly “OK”.
$56 breakfast for two without drinks. Sad, but we both left there wishing we hadn’t wasted our appetites and money.
I can understand underwhelming service and bossy managers- but the food needs the most help here.

Good place for families. Food was fresh and delicious - blueberry pancakes and Chihuahua and avocado omelette were very good. Fresh squeezed juices - blueberry lemonade was perfectly tart and refreshing. Biegnet itself was a little dense for my liking, but still enjoyable. Manager/owner was cold and unhelpful. Not complaining about this, just an FYI for other diners: 22% gratuity added for parties 5+, $6 split plate charge for anyone sharing an entree, 3% service fee charge for credit cards.

A few years ago, we used to like this place, but everything (except the decor) has really gone down hill. The past two times we’ve ordered our extremely overpriced meals the eggs were overcooked, the food was half cold, and lacking much flavor. I can’t believe it is so hard for a breakfast place to not overcook eggs? The same dish that I’ve order several times through the years has tasted entirely different every time. This time it had no flavor at all and was $4 more than last year. $23 for lukewarm, soggy, overcooked hash is just insane. $5.5 for black coffee is robbery. The service is just ok - not all that nice, mostly efficient. They finally replaced the hellish copper cups. At this price point and with this inconsistency, we won’t be going back.

Staff seemed confused. Some of us got the wrong orders. We asked for things several times before getting them. Chicken was bland. Some portions were small . My pizza was 30 percent crust. We were told to wait very far for a table. My mom couldn't make it with her walker. We were told to move but couldnt. Service was really slow. We were told they were very busy and had to wait a half hour to be brought into an empty restaurant. Didn't really fill up either. It was so expensive my mom couldn't sleep for thinking about the exuberant bill. I am going to mortgage my house to pay her back.

Wow!!!! Stop what you’re doing and get here now! Our original plans changed and a local person suggested we try Blue Bear instead. It was delicious. Such a great suggestion.
We had the Blue Bear Benedict withBerkshire ham, potato pancakes, deep fried poached eggs, smoked Gouda sauce, caremelized onion. Yes, you read that right. They deep fried their poached eggs. It was an amazing symphony of flavors and textures in your mouth.
We had the same experience with the Smoked Salmon Benedict. The salmon lox, potato pancakes, poached farm eggs, Boursin habanero cream cheese, arugula, hollandaise all came together and, again, it was another symphony of flavors and textures.
Make sure you stop by here. You’ll be treated like a local and won’t leave disappointed. They also have a covered and heated patio in the back so they can fit a lot of people.

For starters, I just wanted to call out that at night the Blue Bear menu becomes Italian and you have to order from their “Della Porta” Italian menu. Not a bad thing, just something to be aware of.
First off let me start by saying that the food is very good. My wife and I ordered 2 appetizers and shared and entree. Everything we had was good. The issues began with service, it is very slow and we waiting almost 20 minutes for our cocktails despite seeing them sitting at the bar. Also, while the appetizers were adequate the serving size on the pasta we ordered for our entree, the most expensive on the menu, was very small. Additionally, there is a $6 up charge if you choose to share, which is fine, except for the fact that they do not do anything to split the entree for you and the portion size was honestly too small to split.
All in all, good food but in my opinion not worth the value since the food and drinks are all over priced for what you get. If you are looking for somewhere new to go and out of other places by all means check this out but I do think there are better options in Door County for dinner.

I have been wanting to go here for so long and it completely lived up to the hype. The Blue Beary Pancakes are TO DIE FOR!! These blueberry pancakes come topped with a lemon streusel crumbled and were 13/10.

Went for brunch today 9/3/22. My wife ordered the mushroom omelet with cheese. It came with rosemary potatoes that were so salty you could not eat them. I had the sweet potato hash with fried egg, which I liked. Both were overpriced for what you got . The omelet was $17.00 and the hash $14.00.
When the bill came it was on a handheld computer and when I asked to see the breakdown of charges they said I could not until the bill was paid. I paid the bill and when I did get the printout there were charges for sourdough toast. When I questioned this they said it states this on the menu. When I spoke to the owner he could not find it on the menu. At this point he became nasty. I told him also the potatoes had way too much salt and he proceed to tell me out of 325 servings today of orzo potatoes my wife and I were the only ones to complain. Really, they served 325 portions of one type of potato in 5 hours??. If so no wonder they were not very good. I would hope they only make a few servings at a time.
Will never go back there.

Very flavorful dishes. We enjoyed the sweet potato hash and mushroom omelette with goat cheese and pesto. We were given a choice between homemade French style white or whole wheat toast. We also had a breakfast burrito that was filled with black beans, avocado, potatoes, and vegetables. It was huge. We could tell that the juices in the drinks we ordered were fresh not from concentrate. It is very difficult to find Door Co restaurants open year round. It is even more difficult to find restaurants that offer high quality food, service, and atmosphere for a good value. Blue Bear does not disappoint.

A terrific place to grab a coffee, grab some food, enjoy the views of the lake after a nice hike. The service was fabulous. The only thing is it can get cramped in there and there is limited seating but overall fantastic place!

We had a wonderful time dining in at Blue Bear today! The food was fantastic - I had the quiche of the day. Our whole table’s food was incredibly fresh and delish. And we loved the Valentine coffee. Plus we love that they have many options for folks with dietary concerns. Alyssa, our server, was very kind and helpful as well! Overall, we highly recommend visiting Blue Bear!

It was fantastic. The restaurant was very clean and the people working here were great. It is the weekend before Thanksgiving. The food was fantastic and there were five people in the restaurant.
They even make their own half and half.
I highly suggest people come visit especially in the off-season cuz it's really good food and there was no wait.

What a wonderful experience. First, food. The food was beyond delicious. I wanted everything on the menu. Several vegetarian and gluten free options.
Second, experience. We came in right when lunch service was over. The owners, Joe and Tessa invited us to stay and they would make us lunch. Right there they had me! We sat at the bar and started chatting with Tessa. Joe is the chef and he came out and the four of us had an amazing conversation and we learned about their career in owning restaurants. You could hear their passion and commitment for excellent food.
Third, they are open year round, with some down time in January, which I would certainly expect. During the winter, it is very hard to find restaurants that are open in Door County.
My husband and I look forward to many more meals at the Blue Bear for exceptional food, and Joe and Tessa!

Stopped for brunch during a getaway for a bachelorette party. A elderly gentleman moved tables from where he was originally seated and a waiter named Jessie proceeded to yell at the customer that he couldn’t sit there. Ultimately the gentleman was able to move but as he was moving the waiter again yelled at the man asking how would he feel if someone came into his house and started moving his stuff around. The whole restaurant went silent and was extremely uncomfortable. Despite working at the bar, the owner did not step in until the very end of the tirade. I do not understand why the waiter felt the need to berate the customer infront of everyone for something so simple? Bad vibes, but the food and drinks were decent. Come to this restaurant if you want to get publicly humiliated for something as simple as switching seats.
