Stopped in on the way through town on a whim. The beer and atmosphere are top notch but they have nothing and I mean nothing on the calzone. One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! 10/10 will be back!

Now, I don’t typically leave reviews but I just felt I had to share. My husband and I have given them countless tries over the past few years, especially considering they are never busy and we like to be sat right away without the wait times of other local places. We haven’t stopped by in awhile, but we were hoping with yet another menu change, this time only doing pizzas, that they would’ve gotten something right. Sad to say, but Kwik trip serves better pizza than what you get here. We saw no familiar faces working there, which was quite depressing considering we only ever came here to see the regular staff that knew us and would make us cool new drinks to try. The staff now seems very uneducated on their own place of work, and they all around seem like they don’t want to be there. With the food being as disappointing as it’s been for the past few years, this place was really depending on the staff to keep the customers coming back. The whole atmosphere feels thrown off and unwelcoming. I think we’ve finally given up on this restaurant.

Inevitably whenever I give a local restaurant kudos, it quickly goes south. So, I will not tell you that The Blue Heron in Marshfield, Wisconsin is one of the best places that I've ever patronised. Nor will I tell you that their luscious, melt-in-your-mouth appetizers/sides leave you begging for more. Also, I will not say that their drinks, entrees, and especially their staff go above and beyond expectations. So don't take my word for it. Visit The Blue Heron and prove me wrong!

First off, let me start by saying Im not one to complain about food. Id eat/try just about anything. Ive lived in the area for a little over a year and have been wanting to try this place so I was pretty excited. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. The food wasnt edible...and I'm not exaggerating when I say that. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fries, my bf got the smash burger with fries, and then we got cheese curds and fried pickles for appetizers. They nuked the chicken sandwich to where the burnt batter slid right off from all the grease and there was absolutely no flavor but grease. My boyfriend's burger was extremely dry and there was about a teaspoon size amount of caramelized onions between the patty and bun. The fries....well they weren't fries. They were tiny pieces/crumbs that seemed like left overs from the bottom of the deep frier. The deep fried pickles were nothing but grease- couldn't taste the pickles. The cheese curds were alright. Needless to say, we were left speechless and after spending $60 for a dinner we couldn't eat....we won't be giving this place a second chance.

That said, the service felt… sparse. Not rude, just minimal. We were seated and served, but interactions were few and far between. Water refills didn’t happen unless we flagged someone down, and it took a while to get the check. It wasn’t neglectful exactly, but definitely hands-off to the point where it felt like we were on our own for most of the meal.

Service was the worst I have ever experienced. Didnt know how to handle a large group( we had about 20). Took halfway through the meal to get water (after reminders). Drinks brought out one by one. One person in our party didnt receive meal until after everyone else was done eating. Manger would not provide compensation for the 1 meal that came super late. Will never go back.

Walked in and it was rather busy, but it’s okay because we weren’t in a huge rush. We watched as each table got their food prior to us at a seemingly decent pace, and then people that came after us started getting their food before. At the TWO HOUR MARK we asked if they had even started our order yet, and the answer was NO!!! Things to note: there were 4 wait staff with approximately 10 tables busy when we entered. Two tables were 8 tops, one table a 6 top, the rest were 4 or less. We were check in twice in the total of 2 hours.

Some days i walk into there and it’s great!! Other days i walk into there and it’s not so great. There is constant animosity in the air, the bosses sit at the bar and drink when they are clocked in half of the time………i have saw many many times people have had to wait because there is no attention being paid to them. My server Jay was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The bar manager Pete was outstanding. I will definitely be a regular. I ordered a very delicious Heron Seltzer Blueberry and a massive brick oven sausage mushroom pizza cooked to perfection. Absolutly OUSTANDING! I believe in supporting local business and this place is a diamond in the rough. Anyone in the surrounding area should come check it out. They have trivia nights of which was not intrusive to your meal. I love it

Our first time here and the food was very good! I had the Western burger with sweet potato fries. Burger was great. I loved the peach bourbon BBQ sauce! Took a long time to get anyone to come to our table when we first arrived, food was ok. Our daughter’s Chicken tenders were overcooked, my husband’s sandwich was missing the jalapeños he requested and was charged for. The cheese fries were very good and was excited to try their other food, but didn't give it a chance because the service was not good. I’m not sure how this place has 4.1 stars. I’ve been coming here for years, and unfortunately, my best time here was my first time here. I’m assuming they are riding on their 4 star ranking due to reviews from years ago. The food was terrible. The service was horrific. I’m fine with waiting over an hour for my entrée if the plate is actually good, however; that was not the case. The only saving grace was the bartender, whom I had to flag down for our second round of drinks. The only reason you should come here is for the drinks (the espresso martini is to die for), unless you’re interested in frozen pizza and over citrus-ed salmon and broccoli. Don’t waste your time when it comes to dinner.

Club sandwich had no mayonnaise on it, and then charged us for extra mayo. Asked for avocado on my chicken ranch wrap, charged me for it, didn't get it. Took forever to get out bill. I would suggest if you are hungry, DO NOT go here!! My boyfriend and I were so excited to check out the Blue Heron Brew Pub!! However after waiting for over an hour asking a server about the progress of our order, talking to a bar tender, and then our actual waitress what was going on with our order, we decided to leave. Our waitress said they could take 10% off of our bill. We felt this was a slap in the face. It was not busy. People that came in after us were getting their food. So disappointing!!! There was no one there besides a couple tables who already had food. Waited 15 minutes for 2 sodas, then he came over to get food order and said oh I forgot, it's busy... where? There was a total of 6 people there. Get food, pretzels cheese sauce was NOT cheese, that was potato soup. Pretzel you could have used as a hammer. Fried pickles were ok. Literally ONLY thing that was edible. Steak sandwich special with soup... meat absolutely in edible.. was so tough you could not bite or chew it, bread toasted to point it was so dry and like croutons. Soup, tomato was like you opened a can of tomato puree and warmed it up, the squah was like paste and tasted like it was mixed with marshmallow whip. Told the waiter who told me it's cuz we were eating it wrong, you dip in the soup. Told him dipping would not fix over cooked meat.
Awful, I'd give 0 stars if I could. $60 and we ate nothing. Sad cuz this place was good, now, you get better food at McDonald's.

Very good experience, lost one star because the servings are huge (and we couldn't take leftovers because we're traveling) and the music was too loud to visit with each other. Wasn't a big fan of the brussel sprouts but the cheese curds were good. Fish tacos were good, nice big pieces, but too much sauce. Sweet potato fries were very good. I had the jalapeno passionfruit margarita (called something else), but they were out of passionfruit so they made it with mango, I also requested light jalapeno, very tasty.

Update to review: Returned for dinner with group of 20 on 08.30.23. Totally different experience from lunch service.
Server was exceptional, drinks and food were great. Both food and drinks were served in timely fashion. Everyone was very happy with appetizers and meals.

Went today (08.25.23) for lunch. Took over an hour to receive our food. This is not a great place to go for your lunch break.
When we finally received our food, one order had the wrong sides another order was missing fries. Was told that they'd be right out... after they were finished with their meal waitress brought fries out and her only comment was the sandwich must have been good because they couldn't wait. I ordered a burger and asked for medium doneness, was told they are pre-cooked...??????
It was not crowded but the atmosphere is not conducive to conversation as it is so loud, need to do something with the acoustics.
Not the first time we've had a long wait for our food here. Unfortunately Marshfield does not have many options for dining.
Lastly, please bring back the fish tacos on the lunch menu. You serve fish fries, why take off this option?

Horrible waiter! Long story short we were told a party they were having upstairs was more important than us. We waited over an hour for our food and the waitress came and checked on us once during that wait. The one time our waitress came and checked on us she said, "The pizza was in the oven now!"...35 minutes later we got our food. A different waiter brought our food and that's when he said we were lower on the priories list. I am 99% sure our pizza was sent to someone else. I get it if you're busy and there's a party upstairs but then warn those ordering pizza that it may be a long wait. Or check on us, ask if we want another drink. There is no reason to say a party needs their food over those in the restaurant. There was no "I'm sorry this is taking so long." or "Thank you for being patient."

It was a tuesday night and I was in there with a friend. it was not super busy, but it was a great environment. The food was amazing. This place used to be awesome like 10 years ago but has since really gone down hill. I won't be coming back. I visited with a friend and got some fried pickles from the "shareables" menu, aka appetizers. The price for this appetizer was nearly the same for a sandwich, so I expected a reasonable portion to *share*. My family came into this establishment for dinner tonight. We haven’t been here in quite some time but never had any complaints before. The waitstaff was phenomenal, very courteous and kind. The beer was exceptional, very good. The food on the other hand was awful, besides our appetizer (pretzel) which was very good. The pulled pork tasted frozen, salty and just couldn’t get myself to eat anymore of it. The Cajun chicken was very watery and super hot. We were very disappointed with the food for the cost.

I've been there before and it wasn't a bad experience. Last night however was completely different. The bartender was very stuck up and didn't go out of his way to come back to see if we needed anything. Then we got our food. I ordered an elk burger with lettuce, raw onion and pickle with a side of horseradish. My burger came out and there was nothing on it. Literally a bun and burger. Also, he never gave us utensils or condiments. Here's the kicker. My girlfriend and I woke up this morning and are constantly on the toilet, throwing up and not feeling well at all. That experience will keep us out of there for good.

It was unfortunate that I could tell all my food was certainly frozen and freezer burned however. From the fries to the pulled pork. It's my opinion everything there is being frozen in batches and it's affecting food quality. I used to go here often a few years ago, but I stopped when they started cutting corners on fresh food then. It's upsetting to see that trend stayed the same.

Also something about the water was off. Idk if their ice machine is bad or it's just the taste of their tap water there, but it's definitely got a taste to it that"s unpleasant. It tasted like the inside of a freezer/fridge.

Go for a beer but don't stay for the food. Everything was way over cooked/deep fried. We sent our fish back because it came out burnt. Less than 5 minutes later they brought out a new plate that I swear was the same fish just rearranged. Great local brew pub in central Wisconsin. Wife and her friend loved their salads. My buddy and I were big fans of the burgers. We all enjoyed the flights of 10 of their beers then we each picked one for a pint after that. I liked the two reds. They also had a dish outside for our dogs which was great. Was told by a coworker to check the place out for Friday fish fry. My first impression was very poor. Two young ladies were preoccupied with socializing with each other over helping customers. I stood at the bar for 7 minutes before I was helped. When the lady came back with my card, she set the card and receipt down saying "have a nice night" with her back turned walking away. Our dinner lasted nearly 3 hours and our plans for the night were ruined due to this. Neither of us had cash to pay for our drinks/apps so we were stuck waiting for the check, but couldn't get it. In the 3 hours we were there, we only saw our waitress maybe 3 or 4 times. There was an entire hour when we didn't see her at all and our drinks sat empty. When our food finally did come, it was lukewarm and the fries seemed like they'd been sitting for a long time. We were not the only ones - the table behind us left after 2.5 hours without being served. We were only offered a "thank you for your patience" and the explanation that some larger groups were prioritized ahead of us, even though they were sat later than us. Very disappointed in the service, and the food isn't as good as it used to be. I probably won't be back.

Unfortunately I cannot rate the food or drinks because we walked out before getting drinks or food. We've been here several times and have loved it in the past. We tried to call ahead to make a reservation since we had a group of 6 including 2 kids. The said they didn't take reservations. We walked in and there was someone at what appeared to be the hostess desk and she said it's first come first serve for tables. We walked in and there were no tables available and there were 2 other groups waiting for a table. One was awkwardly hovering around a table with others sitting at it still eating. We weren't willing to play that game so we left. Not taking reservations is one thing but why not take names and seat people? Who wants people hovering over them as they eat waiting for them to be done so they can have the table?? Weird! Not only did they miss out on our food revenue, but we brought in empty growlers to be filled with beer. We weren't going to buy their beer if we couldn't eat there. I think we'll still try again since we've loved it in the past, but we definitely have a bad taste in our mouths about this place now.

Another 10 minutes before they came to take our order. They were not busy either. The drinks and cheese curds were the only good things about this place. First and last time I’ll be eating here. For starters we tried calling and making a reservation so we would be sure to have a table and we were told that they don’t take reservations. We were like okay, doesn’t really matter. However when we walked in and we went to sit down at a table we were stopped and were told that the table is reserved. We just shrugged it off thinking whatever.
There was also a huge group that ended up sitting on the reserved table and the whole entire time they were very loud and we couldn’t even hear a loud waitress when she was taking our orders.
We also seen our waitress a total of about 5 times throughout the whole night.. we were there from 6:15-7:45. We had empty drinks pretty much the whole entire night. After our waitress took our order she vanished and we didn’t see her for over half an hour, we all had empty drinks and simply wanted refills because our food took so long for no reason. All of our food was relatively simple that shouldn’t take more than a couple minutes to make.
We got tired of waiting so long that i stopped a different waitress and asked if our food was being made yet, because if not, we wanted to pay for our drinks and leave. After I stopped a different waitress for a the second time our food was finally brought out.
The food had no flavor and it was all lukewarm at best, it seemed like our food was ready for a long time, but our waitress was no where to be found so it just sat there.
I ordered a wrap and I was surprised that the chicken wasn’t warm, so I stopped another different waitress yet again, because ours was no where to be found, and asked if it was normally warm. She did inform that it isn’t warmed and it just sits out(never been to a place where they did that, chicken was always freshly cooked). I then also mentioned that all of our fries were also cold and she asked if us if she should get our waitress and I told her we barely seen her this whole night. When she heard that her jaw literally dropped and was like, “that is very unacceptable, the owner is here so I’ll go talk to him and get your food discounted.”

I am very happy that our food was discounted, but none of us were happy with our food, it all tasted bland and was lukewarm at best. The only person who finished their food was the guy that order the grill cheese, but seriously let’s be honest here… if your cooks can’t make a simple grill cheese right, they shouldn’t be cooking in the first place.

Terrible service and even worse food. Cheese curds undercooked, took 40 mins to get our food, fish overcooked, breading on chicken sandwich was not good and very greasy, toppings on sandwich that were asked to be excluded, and had to ask each time for refills. It wasn't busy either so can't blame that.

The roast beef sandwich was dry and flavorless. The au jus tasted like they dumped a bottle of Italian seasoning it it. The fries and bread were ok. My daughters steak bites were good and tender. The bread it came with also tasted like they dumped the bottle of Islam seasoning on it. My Pepsi tasted terrible, not sure how that's possible. Her lemonade was great. Definitely do not recommend the beef sandwich :( I was very disappointed since I was really looking forward to eating there.

I’m frequently in Marshfield on business, and I even paid for PubClub membership since I’ve been going to this place pretty regularly for close to a year now. With the COViD rules, bartender told me they encourage patrons to order from the “touch less” online menu on their website (see pic). Based on really liking their Sriracha Sirloin Tips appetizer in the past, I ordered the Sriracha Sirloin Melt Sandwich ($14 vs $12 for their other “beef” sandwiches that advertised “top round”). Needless to say, I was disappointed when their Sriracha SIRLOIN Melt only contained TOP ROUND, not the SIRLOIN tips used in their prior appetizer. Call me crazy, but I think a restaurant shouldn’t go around calling their standard beef sandwich (top round) sirloin. No discount offerred even after I pointed out the discrepancy.

I ordered the peach bourbon pizza and aside from how good it tasted, I need to mention that I didn't know it came with bacon, which I don't eat. The service was horrible. We had the baked fish-it was small pieces, ice cold and overcooked... had a hair in the tarter sauce, handed it to the manager without any apologies or a replacement ended up having to wait for our waitress who didn’t come back to the table until it we were almost finished so it was no longer needed.

We were seated at the bar waiting for our table. We get stuck in the corner table, ill lit, wobbling, and by the very drafty back door. The servers kept going to the computer to enter stuff but after 15 minutes no one had said a word to us. So we went back to the bar again and ordered. We took the place of a family who walked out on an order after waiting for food for 20 minutes. But the food hadn't even been started. Not even their appetizers. After hearing the servers tell the owners (who we just so happen to sit next to). We heard multiple complaints brought to the owners attention last night but they just kept making excuses and blamed it on the customers, all of which were slow food times and no acknowledgement from staff. Our food arrived after 45 minutes of ordering . Overall the whole ordeal took us 2 hours or more. Food tastes great the service was awful and management was even worse than the service. The owners shouldn't bad mouth customers to their employees infront of other customers. We wont be going back.
