Service was nice, atmosphere was okay, but the food was just awful, I ordered a French onion soup, the onions were undercooked almost raw, the croutons were soggy, the cheese was pretty much non existent and they put PARMESAN cheese on the soup, which isn’t in a French onion soup recipe at all. My father ordered a salad, extra ranch, they came out the salad had zero ranch on the salad itself which it advertised itself to have, only in a small little cup, they claimed that the salad was Romaine Lettuce, but it was Iceberg Lettuce. The cheese used for the salad was sliced AMERICAN CHEESE and HAM sliced with it, my father also ordered no tomatoes and they put giant slices of tomatoes inside the salad. by far the worst salad I’ve ever seen. I ordered the Reuben and I was severely disappointed. It was on white bread, not marbled rye, they only toasted the outside of the sandwich which made it soggy, they had the thousand island dressing on the side and it wasn’t enough for both sandwiches and their French fries are god awful, no seasoning at all, it’s like they just deep fried potatoes without putting salt on afterwards

I ordered breakfast for lunch, and my omelette was good. Another person had a burger and someone else the French dip. Everyone said their meals were good. The server made us Arnold Palmer drinks, which were not on the menu. Overall we were quite satisfied.

My daughter and I had an appointment in Janesville, after which we planned to go out for breakfast. We didn't want fast food. Not being too familiar with the local eateries, I googled "breakfast restaurant, " and the Blue Ox came up in the search. It was a little far, 35 miles, but looked nice, was on our way home, so we went. It was well worth the trip. It was easy to find, a family-friendly place, clean. I had crepes, my daughter had a chicken bacon wrap with fries that were hot and crispy. Great food. Good service. I highly recommend the Blue Ox. It's not just for breakfast. It has a very good menu!

We were so happy to find a decent diner while in Monroe for a short visit. We moved to northern Kentucky years ago and it's just not the same experience down there.

Excellent food, friendly/kind service, and the best diner coffee I've had in years.

Bonus - they make their own hot sauce that is out of this world.

Woman with brown hair and black glasses was extremely rude to all other staff on shift. Namely the hostess. I dont know her name, just that its not linda.

Linda was our server and was ok. I could tell her section was packed and she was quite busy so im not too worried about her not checking on us till the end.

My main concern was the fact that the other woman was being so negative and it was right near my table. I could hear everything. It was extremely offputting.

I'll preface this review by stating that I have nothing to gain. We were traveling through the area and won't be passing this restaurant again. This is not written with the expectation of any retribution for my dissatisfaction. I'm merely giving an honest review to help others.
First, the good: My wife got the bacon cheeseburger which she said was very tasty and loaded with bacon. I didn't try a bite because she put ketchup on it (I despise ketchup.)
The server was friendly and really cared about our opinion on the food.
I had to be honest when she asked how the gyro is ordered was. There was very little meat on it. I could barely taste the meat over the pita bread it was served on. I know growing up in the Chicago area has me spoiled by good gyros that are loaded with fresh meat. But this one was pretty pathetic. It wasn't even what I'd consider a junior portion. Even the fries that came with it seemed to be a smaller amount than what was served with my wife's burger.
Recommendation: if you go to the Blue Ox, burgers are a good choice. But avoid the gyro. It definitely wasn't worth the $11.99 I was charged.
BTW, the waitress followed through and my wife overheard her telling the owner there wasn't enough meat. So hats off to her 👍🏽

We read the reviews and the majority kept saying that the food was “ok” but mostly positive reviews so we checked it out. Ate there once and after we got done with our food we came to the conclusion that it was indeed “ok” lol. The reviews don’t lie. It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t off the chain amazing. It was all just “ok.” Would I go back? Probably not since there are better options out there but it was decent.

Just moved to Monroe and tried for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised! The staff was wonderful and the Benedict was great with poached eggs cooked perfectly and real hollandaise. We will return. They took extra care with small kids. My wife had the veggie skillet and the cremini mushrooms were a nice touch. Also inside was nice and clean and well updated.

I just left here.When I walked in the hostess was quite friendly and then the waitress came. Not very pleasant to start with. She is middle aged with white hair and a tattoo on her right forearm. She took my order and never thanked me and just walked away. After receiving my food she did not say anything again. Not once in the half-hour I was not checked on just to see how things are. I seen her walking around talking to everyone else and asking how everything is. Now I remember why I haven't been here in 15+ years. Don't thunk i will evee be back here again.

The food quality here was quite high for such a humble establishment. The value for money is there too, as the price to quality to size is reasonable. The French onion soup was delicious.
