Visited on a Sunday evening, the restaurant was fairly empty. Decor is very nice, seems very upscale.
We shared a lobster bisque with the soft shell crab. It was great.
Our two entrees were good.
The Maple salmon had really good flavor, really crispy on the outside but I sure wouldn't want the interior cooked any further. The few asparagus were a tad overcooked, and I would've loved to have a bit more of the puree.
The ribeye was seasoned properly and cooked to a proper medium rare. Mashed potatoes were tasty.
For dessert the creme brulee was meh. The custard was way too dense and despite being bruleed properly was still quite cold.
The service was fine. Our server brought bread before the soup which made a great pairing. But the table next to ours that had just finished eating the same soup hadn't received bread, and when they saw ours and asked their server they were told they had to ask for bread?
If you eat with your eyes, this place is great. The setting and decor could really fool you into thinking it was wonderful. But for the price in this area, it is not delivering a reasonable value.

First let me say Brenda is an EXCELLANT hostess, she is the face of the restaurant. Dacia (sorry if I spelled your name incorrectly) she new her stuff as well. The food was phenominal. The filet was melt,in your mouth, tender, the New York strip cooked to perfection, the scallops were the best we have ever had,the two pasta dishes were delish!! The drinks were on point. The bar staff also need a round of applause too (Hubert was a good sport). Thanks to all of you for making our dining experience a fun and memorable one. See you next year!!

It's a beautiful spot to have poor meal and enormous bill. You can order the lobster mac anywhere else around the area and get triple the amount of lobster. I was left searching for my lobster, which is insane considering the price. The lady also was telling us that their recipe was unique and they used nutmeg and this and that. When the meal arrived, I didn't taste a single flavor that she mentioned, I wish she hadn't spoken in the first place because I would have enjoyed it had I not been searching for the flavor profile she described. That lady is a little irritating, and she only seems to remember the men and not the women who accompany them as far as I've noticed in my hand full of times gone. We've gotten poor NY Strip, the Tomahawk experience was a little underwhelming, don't bother with the lobster mac. The truffle fries are nothing like the truffle fries you get in the city, don't bother. I ordered these crispy ahi rice things for them to come on a wonton and nothing like the city. It's just gets really annoying to constantly feel screwed over in the end when you are searching for a spot that you can dress nicely and go out for a date.
Only 1 of 75 comments on the Minocqua Foodie Page recommended Bootleggers as a romantic spot to have a great meal, and I felt seen. No one wants to pay Chicago prices for a BOOTLEG experience. The name of the restaurant is represented phenomenally in my opinion.

A bit of a hiccup in our visit. We were there to celebrate a 30th anniversary and most of us had to leave for a long drive home. We didn’t mind waiting for a table, but when we finally were sat we didn’t receive any service for about 20 minutes. We nearly left. I finally got up and started asking about cooking times and Brenda(?) either the owner or manager on duty spoke with me and helped get the evening going and fixed the mistakes that happened. We appreciated the thought and efforts from her and the wait staff after what happened. Food was good and drinks were wonderful. Once we finally serviced we were out of there in an hour which was perfect.

This place looks fancier than the food is. I started with the house salad that came with the steak and it was probably the best part of the whole meal. My entree was a disappointment to say the least. The fries were a mix of cold and warm ones. They obviously weren’t made fresh. But my biggest issue was the steak. I ordered a medium-rare and the middle of the steak was cooked well and tasted good, but the outsides of my steak were rare if not even more raw than that. It was gross that I couldn’t even eat 1/4 of my steak since it wasn’t cooked. I just don’t understand how it was cooked to where the inside is done but not the outside. Overall I wouldn’t come here if you’re looking for a good meal and it’s definitely quite pricey for what it is.

We had 11 in our party and we celebrated our son and future daughter in law getting engaged. Everyone left full and everyone raved about their meals and couldn’t say enough about it. 5 of the 11 were newcomers to the restaurant and absolutely loved it. Many people will complain about the prices but you get what you pay for, their bartenders were amazing and very knowledgeable. Not only was our waitress awesome they brought out a complimentary cake with sparks to celebrate their day. Even the chef visited our table asking if there was any comments on if he could make it better and to ask us how we liked it. The Filet you could cut with a butter knife. The views are stunning and the inside is stunning as well. This is hard to find a place like this in many places but to find it in Tomahawk is simply incredible. We will be back.!!! Service above and beyond!!

Amazing up north atmosphere, and the most stunning view of Lake Nokomis. Had a perfectly cooked Ribeye, really tasty pasta alla vodka, and the wedge salad was excellent. Bartender was also super knowledgeable about their wine selection and made great recommendations. Very reasonably priced for what you get. Will come back over and over again!!

We just tried Bootlegger’s for the first time and were nervous after reading some of the reviews. However, I’m glad we decided to try for ourselves and happy to report our experience was the polar opposite of many of the reviews. We had a reservation for two at 4pm, which was the first seating for dinner. We were seated right away, had a friendly and attentive waitress throughout, and our meals were both excellent. The Tomahawk Chop was incredible - we will both be back just for that - and my husband loved his prime rib, which was tender and flavorful. Thank you for a wonderful date night - we will be back!

Six in our party and no one happy. One served with cold vegetables. Took it back and still cold when returned. One served with cold baked potato. One had chicken Marsala and no taste whatsoever. Server never offered bread until we asked. Will never go back. Manager stopped by and offered free desserts to appease us. That was an insult.

Had an amazing stay. The staff and accommodations are perfect. I had been to the original Bootleggers a long time ago and had no idea how nice it has become. Every part of the building has been renovated and looks amazing. I didn’t know what to expect but I was blown away. It’s a Beautiful Lodge and the staff take it to the next level. It was clean, everything was very efficient and staff was very responsive. We will be staying again for sure. Thanks Bootleggers

Hi we have dined at Bootleggers 4 times in the last year. The owner is trying real hard to sell an experience but is missing out on training of their employees, The Bartenders flat out are slow as molasses . In the last two times we were there we waited an average 40 minutes to get asked what we wanted to drink. After our reservation was exceptionally late we were offered another drink this came at 1 hour 45 minutes after arriving.
They also had a very limited menu . No larger portion steaks ! 8 oz was it. They advertised surf and turf and were out of seafood. I asked for a Brandy Alexander and was informed they were not making them,
My wife’s steak was way undercooked and my cordon bleu was dried out.
We sat at the table for quite some time before they realized we didn’t have s waitress.
This was not a good experience.
I highly suggest , to hire someone who can serve drinks quickly. Until I hear things have changed we will not be back!

Made reservations to sit next to the fire place at 6:30pm. Brenda, the hostess asked if we could do 6:45 because they had a table of 14 to serve which I agreed to. I called two days ahead of our reservation to confirm with Brenda. We arrived at 6:30 and sat at the bar and had cocktails. Which was fine. At 7:20 we asked when we would be seated. Brenda replied with , we have a party of 18 that they were serving and we were next. Well, we were seated , ordered, sat there and waited until 8:30 before we were served a salad and soup. When our food eventually came, the crab was frozen inside and my ribeye was so tough I couldn’t chew it. My scallops were raw in the middle and my potatoes were ice cold. Mind you… this was our wedding supper. We did not get seated by the fireplace either. How disappointing Bootleggers. Our wedding was beautiful! Supper was an absolute disaster on their part! If I could, I’d give 0 stars!!

We went here for my 80th birthday. The ambience and decor is wonderful, probably the nicest in the north woods. My steak, ordered medium rare was well done. It was tender. The mashed potatoes were cold and tasted like instant. My son's hamburger was almost raw, he sent it back. My daughter's steak was cooked as ordered, tasty and tender. We waited 90 minutes after ordering to get our food. The dining room was not full so it shouldn't have taken so long. The waitress tried her best, she wasn't at fault. The food is average but the prices are well above average. Next time we'll stick with the Pine Tree, true and tried.

Throughout our experience there was constant bad service with lots of mistakes with our waitress, it took nearly 2 hours for the food to come out in a generally empty restaurant. The food was either under cooked or over cooked. The burgers we ordered looked almost raw and the steak that was supposed to be medium rare looked well done. the portion sizes for all of the food were very small. It was very over priced, you are definitely over paying for what you get.

Stunningly beautiful decor and atmosphere! Beautiful lake location. But mediocre very overpriced food in my opinion. The bread and butter were delicious. The lobster bisque ($18!) and French onions soups were very good. But the ($40!) prime rib was bland. (Don’t forget the extra $12 to “upgrade” my fries to truffle fries). And my husband’s pork was meh. (For $32 we were thinking amazing pork chop, but no it was 4 slices of overdone tenderloin over a smear of creamed corn, no actual side). If you’re going to charge that much for food it better knock it out of the park and it didn’t. Beautiful ambiance though! Maybe just park your boat for a drink and some soup and forget the actual entree?

I am updating this review. We went back on 7/21 and were deeply disappointed. Took us two hours to arrive and eat. Server was new and misunderstood my wife’s salad direction. All steaks weren’t cooked correctly. Considering the prices it should have been better.

I ordered one of two specials. The prime pieces with mushrooms and onions on pasta. Prime beef was cooked to death. The onions were cooked to burned condition. The "prime pieces" were 30% grissel. It was not food fit to serve in any restaurant. My wife ordered the scallops, which she enjoyed. The third person ordered the waygu which she said was good.
The appetizers were unremarkable. We has a shrimp cocktail which was ok if unremarkable.
The soup, lobster bisque was tasty.
The ceaser salad was fine if over priced.
The building is under construction and needs work to be a quality destination. We were disappointed in thus "Wisconsin Foodie" recommended restaurant. We wouldn't return to or recommend this restaurant.

HORRIBLE experience!!! We went in 4/20/24, we got there at 5:30, were told we wouldn’t get sat until 6:45. We were okay with that and said we would wait at the bar. The bartender did not even acknowledge us for over 20 minutes, but had no problem serving the two groups on either side of us. My fiancé had to speak up just to be acknowledged. We waited WELL past our seating time of 6:45. No one said anything to us or checked in on us the whole time. We ended up leaving around 7:20 after waiting for more than an hour and a half. Couldn’t help but think race was a factor honestly as no one else was being treated the way we were. I would NOT suggest going there ever honestly. Ran very poorly

I've been stopping here as part of an annual trip for several years. The dining experience has always been enjoyable. Since the remodel and new ownership it has been exceptional. In the heart of Lake Nikomas sits Bootleggers Lodge. It's known for its abundance of history surrounding the local area. My wife and I recently visited this establishment. We had a reservation but still waited about 20 minutes after to be seated. The atmosphere was amazing while in the restaurant. The service was slow, but it was due to the kitchen and number of people that were there eating. The food was over priced for what you were getting and how much there was.

I would not recommend!
Reservation was 5:45, seated on time. Ordered our food! Soup or salad not included in the meal… $12 for a bowl of soup! Soup was luke warm at best! Waited over an hour for our food! (Was not busy by any means) Paid $45 for a ribeye, at that price, I should be able to cut it with my fork, steak was tough and had no flavor! Norwegian, salmon, tasted fishy!
Waitress never asked us if we needed another drink…had to get our own drinks from the bar!
Took a doggy bag with the bread they served, it was everything our dogs could do to choke it dog…
Was really looking forward to a great meal, with the prices they charge, I would expect nothing less! Best part of the meal was my French fries!
Over priced and very slow service!

This is a hidden gem in the north woods of Wisconsin. Bootleggers’s offers elevated food in an area of Wisconsin that otherwise only serves bar food. It has the ambiance of a restaurant in a large city. It is warm and inviting. They have a seasonal cocktail menu, but the bartender can create any cocktail you desire. We started with the mushroom crostini. It came with 4 pieces. The dominant flavor was the creamy LeClare goat cheese. It was delicious and I would order it again. We then had the baked French onion soup served with warm bread and a spectacular herbed butter. The soup was smothered in Gruyère cheese. Underneath was a delicious beef broth with caramelized onions and a baguette. It was perfectly flavored. Not too salty as some French onion soup can be. The entrees we sampled were the Wisco Cherry Pork and the Norwegian Salmon. Both were delicious, but the pork dish was the stand out. The pork tenderloin was so tender you didn’t need a knife to cut it. The cherry jus was not over powering at all. It helped to balance the flavors. The salmon has a crusted horseradish topping. It also was not over powering, but provided a nice balance, especially with the creamed brown butter white bean puree it was served on. Both dishes also were served with roasted Brussels sprouts. The bartender suggested wines that paired perfectly with each entree. We added a “surf” to our meal with trio of scallops. They were cooked perfectly with a seared top and tender. I would add them to any entree. The service was attentive and efficient. They offered suggestions and gave detailed descriptions. If you are looking for an upscale restaurant, look no further. We will be back!

This restaurant is moving in the right direction!! After fairly recently being remodeled and, seemingly, restructured, they have major potential to become the best fine dining in the Northwoods. Chef Maja and her team have really kicked things up a notch and everything is done to a very high level of perfection. This place is no longer the out-dated definition of a Midwest Supper club.
Upon pulling up to the property, it is clear to see that the building and location are beautiful. Nestled upon a hill overlooking the lake, it sets the tone for a relaxing night in a fantastic location.
You walk through the doors to see nicely decorated interior and Brenda standing there waiting to greet you. She can seemingly handle your every need.
We tend to make our way to the bar and try to grab our normal spots if possible. They have many fine spirits, wines, and craft cocktails to choose from. If you are unsure, the bar tenders can happily offer you some great recommendations. They have a seasonally changing drink menu as well, so there's always something for everyone.
Once your table is ready, you are seated either in the bar area room or in the dining room. You may request either one when you first speak with Brenda if you please. We tend to sit in the dining room for a calm and quiet atmosphere so we can fully enjoy the fantastic food that is yet to come.
Once seated, you can look over the menus and see what is to your liking. The menu changes with the seasons so it always leaves you looking forward to the next. It's not a very large menu but that just allows the kitchen to focus on giving you the best possible quality foods without having to be spread out into a million different items.
The food is absolutely phenomenal. We have yet to find a dish that we haven't liked. There's no simpler way to put it. Each new dish we have tried just blows us away. We had dinner there last night for New Year's Eve and had Steak Tartare and Lobster Bisque for our appetizers and both were, by far, the best we've ever had. We really enjoy the specials they have from time to time as well.
We thoroughly enjoy the events they host as well. Definitely looking forward to seeing where this place is headed.

Everything here is perfect. From the amazing food and cocktails, to the great service to the updated, stylish atmosphere, I would highly recommend coming to Bootleggers Lodge.
Everything we ate was high quality and perfectly cooked. We had one of the best beer battered cod fish fries we’ve ever had, an excellent baked cod and an a remarkably tasty and flavorful lobster bisque. Oh and don’t forget about the traditional brandy old fashioneds that were made to perfection!
Restaurant has three main sections; a more formal dining area which was decked out in in a stylish, tasteful 1920’s vintage vibe, a more casual, lively, rustic bar which is adjacent to a phenomenal outdoor seating area/deck overlooking beautiful Lake Nokomis.
I’ve been coming to Bootleggers for years, so both and pre and post renovations and I can say for certain that this place has drastically changed for the better in every way possible. Gone is the dusty, binder of a menu replaced with a more streamlined, quality selection of food and beverage options. The interior and exterior have been updated in a way that still retains the original charm and character, yet makes the whole place just feel more lively and inviting. They’ve transformed this place into a true destination, a place people will want to keep coming back to and when they do return, they’ll want to stay a while.
A true Northwoods Wisconsin supper club indeed!

Lots of pluses here. Certainly one of the best restaurants in this area. Yes, on the pricey side, but the service and food more than justified the price. Three with cocktails, entrees, sides, a bottle of wine, and dessert was around $100 per. We'd go again and plan to go back often. Amanda was our server and was wonderful. Brenda ran the FOH and kept everything together. Made us feel at home as first-timers, had great wine suggestions (Duckhorn Goldeneye!), and reciprocated our kindness.
I had the scallops, which were perfectly done on a delicious bed of pasta, my wife had the pork tenderloins with cherries. I'd highly recommend both dishes. I didn't get to try the Salmon, but it looked perfectly done with a crisp sear.
I'm looking for reasons to make the trip over!

This was our first time here. It was not clear to us where the front door was. There were multiple entrances. The door we entered was to the left of the bar and no sign for the hostess. Two dozen or more people standing around waiting to order drinks and no one was being seated. It was all very confusing. We waited in a line to the bar so we could ask how in the heck do we get seated..we had reservations. Only then were we able to find out where the hostesses stand was.
The meals were ok. I had steak. It had some thickness to it, not like some of those skinny steak some other places serve for nearly the same price. The salad was laughable. Shouldn't waste dessert plates on a salad. Hubby had cod and.fries. the fries were extremely salty. The side of coleslaw was less than 2 tablespoons.
We received our bill and I handed off my card to pay. The waitresses returned with the receipt for me to sign. The amount was more than my original receipt. Upon further inspection, we had just paid for someone else's food and it had already been debited from our account. We waited for our waitress to come back but she must have been busy someplace else. Finally we flagged down another waitresses who set off to find our waitress.
We received an apology and she charged our account for the correct amount. She said the other amount was voided but so far it hasn't shown up in our bank account.
Other than steak there isn't a whole lot on the menu that I would be interested in ordering. I don’t know if I would want to make the 30 min drive again just for food.

I gave two stars because the food tasted good other than that I would not suggest going there unless you want to impress your friends by spending a ton of money with little return .
It was five dollars for a miniature cup of coffee that our 16 year old waitress spilled and did not offer to go get another full cup .
As for the menu all items were separately sold (potatoes, veggies, ex) sides that typically would be included when u buy a 45$ steak.
The fountain soda was 4 to 6 dollars a cup .
I asked for ranch dressing with my french fries and got sacked a dollar for a tablespoon size serving
Ridiculously high prices the food tasted good but not enough for what we spent And after we were finished and leaving none of the wait staff says thank you and good night not pleased at all we will not be returning unless they change their menu and costs.

Went to Bootleggers with a girlfriend had a amazing experience! Barbara greeted us and got us a high top in bar overlooking the lake! Sadie was our waitress. She was awesome. The mussels were outstanding! We had the filet, baked potato and shared the Brussel sprouts! Filet was amazing in flavor and tender. Brussel sprouts were so tasty. Enjoyed a bottle of wine with dinner! Place was busy and staff do friendly and flying around working as a team.

This place serves a good meal. The bar itself appeared clean. The bathrooms were slightly neglected. Their service recovery was quite disappointing. We had eight people in our group. We needed to send back a Philly sandwich as the request for no onions wasn’t adhered to. Everyone in our party was done eating when the Philly sandwich showed up 30 minutes later. We will give this place another chance as the people in our group positively commented on the food.

If you want a delicious up north classy dinner this is the place. The drinks are perfect. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a great dining experience, whether you are inside in the beautiful remodeled bar or dining room or outside on the deck. The food presentation and taste makes it all worthwhile. Maja is an exceptional chef and came to our table to make sure we enjoyed it. This is a dining supper club that has it all, water view, excellent food, drinks and people that want you to enjoy your night.

We were celebrating a birthday and decided to try Bootleggers for dinner. We had been there before for cocktails. Which are always well made.
The atmosphere is nicely done. It’s rustic sheek and very comfortable. We also love the deck for outdoor seating with a fun view of Nakomis. We had the French Onion soup that is the best in the area. Generous topping of cheese and homemade croutons With the perfect amount of onions and a good homemade flavorful broth. A member of our group loved the Caesar salad. My main meal was Ciopinno. .It had a tasty homemade tomatoes base jammed full of a variety of shellfish and fish chunks. No shells. I enjoyed this dish and was delighted to find it on a menu in the area. Others enjoyed the prime rib and steak specials. The meat was a bit overdone on the top but The sauces and accompaniments were creative and well done. For dessert the restaurant surprised our birthday guest with a giant chocolate brownie topped with whipped Creme which arrived at the table with the cutest noise maker. All lit up. I always liked the ice cream drinks at Bootlegger so I ordered the Brandy Alexander. Amazingly delicious.
A few things I would suggest to the chef is to “finish” the dishes with herbs or fresh ground pepper and even Parmesan cheese on the ciopinno. My ice cream drink would have really been over the top of they had sprinkled a little nutmeg or chocolate shavings on the top. But this is all we could come up with for improvements.
We hope everyone makes it a point to dine there.

We ended a week long family vacation with dinner here for 15 and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. Every single person loved their meal! Serving 15 people isn't easy but the service was perfect! Some of things things we ordered were the Filet, Prime Rib, Pork, Cesaer Salad, Salmon, Brussel Sprouts, Green Leafy Salad with homemade dressing. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and has lots of space. Thank you for an amazing dinner and experience for our family!

Gorgeous place, poorly managed. We came in after a day on the water. Staff said we could not eat off regular menu on the outdoor patio? Why is this appetizers only?? If this truly is covid related than cramming everyone into their now empty dining room is ALSO a bad idea! Maybe they just don’t want to serve food? 🤷♀️
Anyways it was a pain to dock our boat only to be refused service; therefore, our party of 8 and additional party of 2 went to Tilted Loon for immediate seating, and awesome staff.

The good: the decor (though not very bootleggery) and location. Lots of potential?
The bad:
1- much confusion to seat us (family child help is cute but set it off poorly to start - but adult hostess also asked us twice who we were) even though we had reservations for four
2 - staff very new and super slow service
menu is very small
3- not a supper club and hardly a “steak place” either. Small menu and mediocre
4 - Service using tablets meant order taking was slow and very impersonal. Switch to paper please!
5- Most disappointing is it’s called “bootleggers” but the drink menu is tiny and the bartender didn’t know a simple side car (asked me to provide recipe)

I was really hoping to have a great experience here, as we were with guests from out of state. First, this is NOT a supper club. Second, I would definitely not recommend this place. The positives: the decor is very nice; and the views of the lake are great. That's it for the positives. Staff, including owner, were disorganized. We apparently were given someone else's table (the place was empty on this Monday) and had to move? We were eventually seated next to the open kitchen door. There were less than a dozen options on the entre menu. Most were steak, with four other options. I had the fresh catch, which after I ordered they said they ran out (at 6pm on Monday night? ). One person had scallops, which the homemade pasta was nothing short of disgusting. We sent it back, and it was still overcooked and sparse. They also ran out of potatoes, another one of the oddities of the experience. For what we ate, this place is way overpriced and the total experience was awful. Would NOT recommend.

Short review: Small menu, iffy service, good and bad combo of food, not ADA compliant. Overall would not recommend.
Full review: When we first entered, there was no host and when we went to the bar, they told us someone would be with us and we stood there for a few minutes looking around. When they finally came over to seat us we were put at a decent table with a lake view…and then we had to move because “the table was for someone else.” So, we all get back up and are taken to the very back as far from the lake view as possible. The table was also directly across from the kitchen and a large walk in fridge that was slamming open and closed all night. Our waitress seemed to be new so she wasn’t the best but she did a decent job.
We ordered drinks (no drink menu was in sight) and then took a few minutes to look over the menus. Which only required about a minute to look over as there were 4 total entrees to choose from. When we ordered our entrees, our drinks had still not shown up. When they finally arrived, they were decent but nothing special. One of our old fashioneds was incorrectly made. Then about 10 minutes later they finally served us some bread and butter. It wasn’t the warmest but the garlic butter was tasty.
And now, for the food. Personally, I ordered the filet mignon and the meat was delicious. The side of the night was carrots which normally I would enjoy, but they were hard and cold, basically uncooked. I also had a side of French fries because they were “out of whipped potatoes and twice baked potatoes.” However, another member at my table had an entree with whipped potatoes…so not sure how that works. Someone else had ordered the scallop pasta and the pasta was so mushy it had to be sent back. Once the plate returned, the pasta was the same, maybe slightly warmed up but not new pasta. Very disappointing. Another member at the table had to send back their meat as they ordered it medium and it arrived rare.
As we were eating the waitresses are standing near our table talking to each other. And we then hear that the “catch of the day” had run out and could no longer be ordered…it was 6:15…how do you run out of so many things so early in the night?
Also, this place is absolutely not ADA compliant. If you require a ramp/can’t do stairs, you can’t get into the building or to the bathroom.
Overall, will never be returning as it was extremely overpriced for the experience.

TLDR: Overpriced for quality of food and service. Disappointing experience. Wouldn’t return.
First time here. Honestly, I was very dissatisfied. We had a reservation. Walking in the sign said go to the bar for service. We did, and were not greeted by any staff. There were servers sitting at the bar on their phones. Finally we were brought to a table and sat, only to have to get up and move as where they sat us was “for someone else”. We were brought into the back of the dining room directly in front of the kitchen and loud walk in freezer. Opening the menu to very few overpriced selections was disappointing. Note- they only have Pepsi products if that matters to you. Waitress was nice however.
On to the food, we were a larger party and two of us had to send our plates back. Pasta dish was fully over cooked and mushy. Wagyu steak was ordered medium but came out blue rare, and definitely not a full 8oz as listed on the menu. They said they were out of potatoes. Mind you we got there the hour they opened so that seemed odd. But then one person in our party ordered the pork chops and potatoes he got them on his plate. Makes me think they had that pre made and just heated it up. The asparagus was hard and woody. The carrots were flavorless and hard, and cold. Overall the food was lackluster.

Very disappointing experience from the moment we entered to when we left, party of 7. No hostess so proceed to bar (per sign) where we stood watching employees watching us, but not offering assistance. We told one waitress we had a reservation so she proceeded to seat us at high top table in the bar area until the manager came up to say this was the wrong table, then they moved us into the main dining room, next to the kitchen entrance; there was only one other occupied table.
Our server was pleasant, we ordered our drinks first; only 1 of 6 was incorrect, but we let it slide. The menu is small, very few choices and all quite expensive. We ordered our meals, received some bread & butter to tide us over, the second round of bread was $5. Really?
Food came out 1-2 plates at a time, not all at once. 2 meals were sent back but still not rectified on the second time. The manager never came to see us.
Overall, overpriced and not worth it. If you’re looking for quality stay away. Definitely not upscale other than the decor.

TL;DR: I strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant.
Despite making a reservation and arriving on time, we were not greeted promptly and had to wait to be seated. The staff seemed disorganized, despite the restaurant being empty. We were initially seated at a great table, but were later moved to a less desirable location near the noisy kitchen. The menu was limited, with no available side dishes. Our food took a long time to arrive, and when we requested more bread, we were charged extra. The portion sizes were disappointingly small, with several meals below par. We had to send back two dishes multiple times. The bathroom was in poor condition, reminiscent of a dive. Best part of the night was us leaving

Short version: Food is quite pleasant, cocktails are okay, staff is friendly, service itself is quite slow, the atmosphere is decent with a nautical 20s bit going on. I would still would most likely not return on my own, but would go if others initiated.
Longer: We went with a party of four, three ordered a round of drinks. Two people enjoyed their drinks, I felt it was not well balanced but passable. They bring bread out which is good and soft. After ordering we found ourselves waiting quite a while even though the restaurant was quite empty. When entrees finally arrived they were quite good. The side at the time was creamed corn, I am not normally a fan, but this was actually quite pleasant. The entrees themselves were appropriately sized, nothing leftover but not still hungry. We finished off with the creme brulee. The server had mentioned that they were made that morning and looked very good. Yet when we ordered them they still took a substantial amount of time to arrive and when they did they were a little on the cold side, the top had cooled off a fair bit from being torched so most of the dish was cold instead of the nice contradiction between warmth and cold I am used to. The flavor and texture though were quite nice. Bathrooms were on the rough side of nice and the floor was sandy making my mother almost fall.
I would not return on my own dime with a bill in the 200 range for an experience that was adequate, but did not stand out, but if someone else were to pay I would happily indulge.

The front desk at my hotel said that I couldn't skip this supper club, and they were right! I called ahead to see if I needed a reservation for myself, but was told to come by anytime. It was just me, so I sat at the bar and was served quickly by Mel. She was so upbeat and easy to talk to, which squashed my fears of feeling awkward at the bar by myself. I was able to get dinner service at the bar. I got the special, which was swordfish. It was amazing, plated beautifully and was tasty and filling. It may be pricier than other spots, but I was able to get a cocktail, beer, entree and dessert for $50. The views were stunning both in the restaurant and looking out at the lake. I'll have to come back and share this experience with my family!

This used to be our favorite chill place to get a few drinks and have a great dinner. We recently went after the change of ownership, looking forward to seeing the updates butthe place had a really strange vibe. Bartenders would NOT look at, or wait on customers, lots of people got up and left because they weren't waited on. We had to actually ASK to get a drink. The place was not crowded so there was really no excuse for this type of lack of service. Not to mention some weird dude with gray hair was lurking around the bartenders (manager?), making everyone nervous. Disappointing and strange.

Absolutely the worst restaurant ever! They lock the only handicapped accessible entry door, block the entry with tables, leaving customers who are already seated, enjoying their meal, to get up and move. Also there is a door bell to ring, if you are handicapped, leaving you to wait outside in the elements. To find that the door bell does not actually work. Then when asked how many are in our party, we say 7, the wait time doubles when the dining area is 3/4 of the way empty. We will NEVER go back nor will we ever recommend this place to anyone!! Where we come from, we respect our special members not treat them like a disease. This has happened to our party 3 times since September 2022. They can take their new Chicago owners and staff and park them where the sun doesn’t shine!!

This was our first time back at Bootleggers with the new ownership. As soon as we walked in we saw that the bar had been moved and the entire bar area remodeled. We loved the new decor and the fact there were no blaring TVs. We also loved the music they had on their sound system - mid 70s to mid 80s rock & roll. We loved the old arrangement before but the new arrangement is even better yet. It's very well arranged but not too crowded. The staff was extremely pleasant and very attentive. Both my wife and I had phenomenal steaks (a Filet and New York strip) that were cooked exactly as we ordered. It was my wife's birthday so they gave us a delicious desert. The food is pretty pricey but you get what you pay for. It's hard to find a really great steak in the Northwoods and this place is great!

We actually didn't stay long enough to get a table. The bar tender was great and the old fashioned was very good. Not exactly what I would call "supper club" atmosphere by any means. Was very loud and obnoxious. A live band playing southern rock seemed rather odd and out of place. It reminded me of a bar I would find on the Wisconsin Dells main drag. Menu seemed overly pricey as well. I've eaten at many supper clubs and I am not afraid to pay for a good meal. Their prices on steaks were pretty much double compared to supper clubs I've eaten at in all parts of the state.
