I went for the fish fry Friday. I made reservations and the place was 1/4 full. We had to wait 10 minutes after being seated for water, and another 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order. When the food arrived after another long wait, it was cool. Plus the baked cod was overcooked and dry.
I'll give them another chance, and hopefully the service will improve.

First visit local Dane Cty chain. Ordered gnocchi special with It sausage butternut squash mushrooms spinach more. Very hearty. Dish would have been better if squash more heavily caramelized and there was a unifying seasoning. Sun dried tomato? Curry? It was like all the ingredients went to a dance and no one partnered. The staff was friendly and efficient, but as a senior I don't usually wish to be called girl or honey by a youngster. The Monona location is very cool; snag a patio table with water view.

Loved the atmosphere, the staff and especially the food. Very pretty restaurant with views of the Yahara River. Nice outdoor seating and very nice indoor seating as well. We tried several of the appetizers and some entrees, which were very good. The bacon wrapped dates had cream (or other type of creamy) cheese filling and were Exceptional. I went with my wife Friday night for dinner
Was looking forward to a good fish dinner but I was terribly disappointed! The fish had a very odd/strange taste to it, very unappetizing! I had all I could do to eat one of the 3 pieces. I gave a piece to my wife and she agreed with me. Not sure if it was the fish itself, or something about the preparation, or some seasoning/spice that gave it that flavor? It looked and smelled fine and the batter was ok. Everything else about our night I can't complain about. Service was excellent, atmosphere on the patio was relaxing, good music to listen to, our drinks were great, and all the sides were good. But with the main course so disappointing I can't give a positive review. I'll come back in the future for other food but never will I order fish again!

We went to Buck and Honeys (Honey's?) in Monona last night. My partner was mostly interested in it because it overlooks the river, honestly, but the menu looked good.
We got there a little before our 7:15 reservation and were seated immediately. I asked about sitting outside, but the only table available was right next to the musician they had playing (if there was a way to request an outside table on the online reservation form I missed it).
Our experience was a mix of really good, and not-as-good, but not bad.
The really good was the food, which surprised me. We had the curds (excellent) and the chips and "eggomole" - which is guac with chopped harbolied eggs mixed in. I didn't like the eggomole - it tasted like bland egg salad to me, but my partner and kids liked it.
Our entrees were all excellent - the wagyu burger for my 15 year old, and chicken pasta for my 13 year old. They both enjoyed them. I had a red snapper special over Cajun rice with andouille and vegetables and a Dijon cream sauce. The Dijon sauce was unnecessary, but overall the dish was great. The highlight was my partner's "Veggie Centricity" - roasted cauliflower and Brussels sprouts with polenta and a Parmesan cream sauce and balsamic reduction. She said it was one of the best dishes she ever had.
Our only complaints were that the AC was on full blast to the point that it was pretty cold, and the place is loud. That might have been the six top next to us that insisted on shrieking at each other rather than speaking. They were also understaffed and our server was hard to flag down - it was t her fault and she did great under the circumstances, but a couple less tables for her would have helped. It wasn't cheap, probably more of a celebration spot than an I don't feel like cooking tonight spot, but we'll definitely go back.

I made a reservation for the patio, but when we arrived, we were told it was 45 min wait for the patio but we could sit inside, we opted to go to bar and actually it was less than 15 min, my question is I reserved for the patio but how were there 3 ahead of me??, The food was good, the water view is really only good from the one side. Alcohol drinks were disappointing. They have a driftless blackberry drink, and it had no blackberry flavor, and honestly no real alcohol either, but it was $14 . I know this because we actually go to the drifiless distillary in Baraboo and their drinks are wonderful. This drink claimed to use their bourbon and blackberry balsalmic, i am not thinking they did, to be on the safe side our 2nd drink we just ordered Jameson neat hard to screw that up and it was house whiskey because I have Jameson frequently know the taste , so there are only a few restaurants that actually make a great drink this isnt one of them.

The theme of the food this visit was "soggy". Our lobster roll appetizer was 75% sauce. Walleye entree was complete mush. Avoid the firecracker shrimp pizza, shrimp was okay but the pizza crust was falling apart and didnt seem fully cooked. Only good thing about the meal was the outdoor seating looking out over the water.

Six of us dined here on Saturday night after a long at the nearby annual Beer Fest.

It was a gametime decision to go as we wanted to shower at the hotel but we got a second wind and headed over to B&H.

We are glad we did. The host staff and our waiter was very friendly. There were 3 of us that ordered the special which was the 16 oz Prime Rib (Med Rare of course!) My cousin had some apps and that Firecracker Shrimp was amazing!

Unfortunately, there were 2 issues that night. First, was a few of us ordered a small side salad but only a few minutes later our entrees came. I wish it was spaced out better. Then my wife had Bone In Ribeye and ordered it Medium Rare. When she got it, it was more Medium. She asked our server to bring back another one Medium Rare this time and he said "Let me talk to my manager and I'll be back". Several minutes passed then his manager came with a new steak. This time it was Medium rare but there was a break down in communication somehow.

Came during July 2025 restaurant week! Amazing and delicious food! For their restaurant week menu, lunch was only $20 pp for an appetizer, entree, and dessert! Happy with the overall value. Everyone at the table particularly found the carpaccio crostini quite impressive. It paired very nicely with the capers, arugula, and balsamic glaze. The patio seating was pleasant, and the view was lovely.

Small note is service did fall a bit short. Our water glasses were empty for about thirty minutes before we had to flag him down. Nonetheless, I do acknowledge that it was peak lunch time on a Friday. Will be coming back!

I've lived in Madison for 15 years and never tried this place until I had a hankering for some brunch this morning! I sat at the bar and got food and a drink...or three. The bartenders were really friendly and the food was sooo good! The bacon on my sandwich was definitely from a real butcher.
The barback is also really cool and unique. It's got birch trees in it and look like a terrarium. I'd put a big snake in there.
Anyway, definitely worth my drive from Middleton and I will be back!

Very bad experience! We booked a table for 12 people, a few weeks before the celebration. We made a reservation and showed them exactly which table we wanted to sit at. It was important for us that it was a table outside! They happily told us that yes, you will have that table outside. When we came to celebrate the birthday, they said that we do not take reservations for tables outside. Although 3 weeks ago they took this reservation! They put us inside in a not very good place! You can say that they ruined our birthday! And they also did not say anything that they have a “Party Charges” which includes 20% of the amount! We were shocked by this!

We’ve never been to a Buck and Honey’s location before. I saw the positive reviews and wanted to enjoy some time with my sons at a nice restaurant following an appointment, since it’s not a restaurant we have local to us. We were sat and I assume it was the manager who got us the water and menu rather quickly - super pleasant lady.

Another table had also been sat around the same time and seemed to be waiting for the remainder of their party. Prior to coming to our table - once the larger table was complete, the server went there first before approaching our table. I want to say we waited about 10 min to be greeted or even asked our drink order. (It was around 3 pm and not busy).

We placed our food order and when it came out my sandwich wasn’t t supposed to have onions (not a fan of raw onions) and it came with. The baked French onion soup was also lukewarm like the toasted sandwich - and no spoon. I had to flag down another server to get one. Our server instead of correcting the issue, came over and showed me it was put in correctly on their end and stated the kitchen messed it up. I do understand that errors happen but nothing was offered to remedy the situation. I couldn’t wait for the food to be prepared again because my children were already eating and I was unable to make them wait longer, so I ended up picking them off.

My youngest seemed to enjoy the chicken tenders and my other kiddo stated the pizza he ordered was also not warm but tasted okay.

We hosted my mom’s 80th birthday at Buck and Honey’s in Monona and would give them one million stars if we could! The entire planning process was easy (shout out to Alex and Olivia, who were both so helpful!) and the three people who worked the party were absolutely wonderful. Fun place with lots of food options! This place was packed on Mother’s Day! Always recommend getting a reservation on popular dates. We usually go to the Sun Prairie location but wanted to try this location because of the water view. We did have a reservation, and the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived. We aske to sit outside but nothing was available. The host then seated us in the center of the dinning room as far away from any view possible. (Keep in mind it was the first nice day of the season and a Tuesday night) We would have asked to move but by the time a waitress got to us we decided to let it go. We ordered our drinks and appetizer. The waitress brought them out and took our entree order. When the entrée came out the person who served them used THE CLEAN ENTRÉE PLATES to push the dirty appetizer plates and flatware out of the way and left the dirty dishes on the table! The waitress did come back once to ask how our meal was but never asked if we wanted more drinks.

My son and his friends made reservations for 5:30 tonight with his friends for prom. They waited forever to get seated then, 45 minutes later, all they were served was drinks. Not a single waitress came to check on them, nothing; so they walked out. They included a tiny handful of cheese curds, about 5 bam-bam shrimps and 2 bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese. The shrimp was good, the dates too sweet, and the cheese curds average (they were just plain breaded curds). Service was good, she kept our drinks full but appetizer portions would only realistically serve 2 people. We decided the next time we meet up, it'll be somewhere else.

B & H is a favorite that we stop at every year when in Madison. The food is usually pretty good but I'd be lying if I said it was always spot on. Good drinks. A bit pricey for what you get but the location and views are worth it!

While visiting Wisconsin, my husband & I stumbled across Buck & Honey's in Monona. Our server Samantha was absolutely phenomenal! We actually made a 2nd reservation in her section for the following night. I had the grilled scallops with the daily vegetable (asparagus) accompanied by mushroom risotto. The scallops were grilled to absolute perfection covered in a lemon buerre blanc sauce that was incredibly delishes. The asparagus was extremely well seasoned, however if you choose to substitute the risotto for the garlic mash - you have a perfect plate. My husband had the ribs with garlic mashed potatoes and although he said the ribs were some of the best he has had, the garlic mash stole the show! The firecracker shrimp was not overly spicy but very tasty, and when in Wisconsin you have to have some cheese! The sassy orange curds were a great starter. I did try the bacon wrapped dates which were as expected, dates, bacon and goat cheese. I do wish the balsamic glaze had a bit more of an acidic bite. Absolutely get the sampler (curds/firecracker shrimp/bacon wrapped dates) if you're looking to have a bit of a taste of everything. I do feel the Chipotle Chicken Pata is a bit over hyped as there is better options on the menu!

This will absolutely be on our list of places to revisit, not only for the wonderful food but also for the spectacular service!

1st time in Monona. Went to SP past 7 years. I was disappointed bc it was 67, sunny and the patio was closed. Now granted the patio and Sun Prairie isn't anything like the patio Monona but if you want to sit outside they will love to feed you out there. And I've worked in restaurants most my life and if you want to sit outside yeah I'll serve you but it was a hard no absolutely no. They were busy my way just seemed overwhelmed took 14 min for our drinks,an additional 12 for appetizers and then lunch immediately followed. I won't order an apps next time. The food quality so I didn't seem as good as Sun Prairie. Even the presentation just looked like somebody was tired or bored. I asked for rare, well done it came. I just tried to chew as much as possible and had to drink to get it down. I can't wait to sit outside on the lake!

Excellent service and dinner last night at Buck & Honey’s in Monona.

Started with ahi tuna bites, nicely spicy with fresh serrano slices, just a bit of sriracha mayo and avocado to balance the heat.

Split the cedar plank salmon with asparagus and garlic mash sides. I don’t mind the extra plate charge at all. I don’t like to get too full at a meal (makes me sleepy 🥱). I love that my guy is also a “splitter.”

Shared a nice bottle of Pinot Bianco that was perfect and only $35.

We usually skip dessert but our server (Layla? Lila?) was outstanding and she did a great job selling the “better than chocolate” treat. The dark chocolate + caramel + toffee bits was delicious and huge. Super rich and a couple forkfuls was plenty.

The restaurant was bustling and busy. Service was excellent from host to server to bussers. Attentive but not rushed.

Had a disappointing dinner at the Monona location last night. I Ordered the Chipotle chicken pasta with no mushrooms as i cannot eat them. It appeared to have mushrooms, and what I now know to be the general manager did not seem to care about my concerns at all. Very dismissive and rude. I then requested to speak with a manager. Not knowing- I was just speaking with one and thankfully they had some else on duty that made me feel seen and was apologetic. Our server was sweet and also apologetic, but the overall experience was disappointing.

Ordered takeout and one of my orders was completely wrong. It didn’t come with anything except the fish in the tortilla.
