Tried Buckleys with my family tonight based on a recommendation while visiting Milwaukee. Ordered the fried artichoke, the empanadas and focaccia appetizers, they were all good. For our entrees we ordered the pork chop, chicken marsala and both my son and daughter ordered the pesto pasta. Pork chop and chicken were cooked well but both pastas dishes were very undercooked (seems to be a common occurrence as other reviews mention). They were not “al dente” but rather had a very starchy, hard to chew inedible texture so we brought it up to our server’s attention after the first bite, both dishes were lukewarm. He took both dishes back to the kitchen returning a minute later with an answer from the chef saying “that’s how they cook it and it is correct” which made for a very awkward moment. He offered to either leave us the dishes that he had taken back to the kitchen or that they could remake them. We asked for them to be remade since they were inedible, bringing the remade dishes about 10 minutes later when we were almost done eating our other entrees. The remade pasta was a little better but it still had a harder chew texture than what you would expect, I wouldn’t be surprised if the same pasta was just reheated, just not a good enjoyable dish. In hindsight offering to try a non pasta dish as an alternative would’ve been a better option if that’s how they serve all their pasta dishes. We didn’t say anything else since my kids were hungry and we were also celebrating my sons birthday, the overall experience had already been awkward. We did order the chocolate and carrots cakes for dessert which were very good. No manager came by at any point to check on the situation afterwards which I found odd for this type of restaurant and price point.

We had dinner here on a whim on a recent visit to Milwaukee. I have been dreaming about their food ever since. I had the chicken Marsala and it was the height of comfort on a plate. The service was impeccable. And the atmosphere was delightful; we were lucky enough to walk in late and get a cozy table for two in the window in the bar area. Loved everything about our experience. Will definitely be back!!

We reserved dinner at Buckley’s based on reviews and it didn’t disappoint. We ordered the carrots appetizer, short rib pasta, and the pork chop. The carrots were so delicious - I usually don’t like carrots but these were fantastic. The short rib pasta was spectacular and the pork chop was very tasty. We also loved the cocktails 🍹 thank you for a great dinner!

We stopped into the bar on Friday night for a cocktail and we're so glad we did! My curry-infused gin cocktail was absolutely delicious and unique. But what really stood out was the attentive and friendly service from the bartenders. They all checked on us regularly and were helpful in suggesting a great drink choice.

Buckley's is off our list. My husband's fish fry was darkly fried. My carpaccio was dry. The lamb lollipop was excellent. Service was attentive. It's a loud dining room. Annoyed by the little charges. A member of our party added shrimp to her pesto pasta. $9 for two large shrimp. An added sauce was requested . . . $0.50. 3% for credit cards. Ugh, the place was not up to par for the pricing.

Buckley’s is a neighborhood gem and one of my favorite restaurants in Milwaukee. I have been here at least 20 times over the last 7 years, and I’ve never been disappointed. The cocktails, the approachable and affordably-priced wine list, the friendly service, and of course, the amazing food. Be sure to get the focaccia, the octopus toasta, the truffled artichokes, and a cocktail (or 4). I am not a dessert person, but I never leave here without having the carrot cake or flourless chocolate cake.

On our last trip, Jess was our server and we had a fabulous time. Cheering for them to reopen for brunch!

I have been aware of Buckley's for decades. It was a tiny place when it first opened, run by the former wife of Benji, the famed delicatessen maven. We returned last night, and Buckley's has grown exponentially. With two bars and multiple rooms, the place is huge. Somehow, the separate rooms help provide intimacy despite the square footage. Our meal reflected a system of apartheid. My wife and I were served food that was on the lower end of mediocre, but our friends' raved about their dinners. In fact, one of them proclaimed their Halibut the best seafood they ever tried. My Friday fish fry consisted of two minuscule pieces of Haddock with a bunch of tasteless fries. The pasta my spouse ordered was decidedly unmemorable. My buddy declared his steak delicious. Service was entertaining, but perhaps the fact she seemed to enjoy our friends more than us had an effect on their dinner. She proclaimed herself a licensed sommelier when I started commenting on dry rieslings from Germany and Austria. I think my commentary irked her, but I did study wine in France in the 1990s, but older men need to keep their mouths shut these days and learn to just smile and nod. Whatever, our Key Lime pie and cheesecake were not good either. We split the bill, and mine came to $247.00 with 20 % tip. I thought that expensive, but I'm old and know squat. By the way, if you use a credit card at Buckley's, you get charged 3%.

I went here in July to celebrate a birthday. Honestly, the experience was disappointing. The waitress couldn’t get us water right away because she said “we ran out of water glasses.” The food was overpriced for the portion and quality. I had to scream across the table for my family to hear me because it was so extremely loud inside the restaurant. Lastly, I have a walnut allergy. Every single dessert on the menu had nuts in it. They ended up putting a “Happy Birthday” sign ON MY BURNT CHICKEN because they couldn’t serve me a desert that was safe for me to eat. We spent about $200 for 3 people, and the lack of effort to cultivate a positive experience at this establishment was disappointing. Not worth $200, maybe $60 for 3 people. Don’t come eat at this establishment if you have any food allergies, they will not be able to make any accommodations.

Last night (Saturday) was our 3rd meal at Buckley's in 3 years. The service has always been and remains excellent. Atmosphere has always been nice, except that the dining areas lack any sound baffling and so are extremely noisy when crowded, as it was last night. In the past, the food has usually been very good, except that pastas tended to be undercooked. (I know what "al dente" is supposed to be--have been to Italy 3 times and have been eating my Italian born mother-in-law's pasta based holiday dishes for over 40 years. Last night's Buckley's pasta would have been "al dente" if it stayed in boiling water another 1-2 minutes.) Last time I was here, my son-in-law and I both felt it necessary to send our respective undercooked pasta dishes back. The kitchen "remade" them but mine came back still undercooked. (The joke at the table was that the kitchen probably let it sit for 5 minutes, then popped it into the microwave for 15 seconds to rewarm it.) Last night, the pasta dish we shared suffered from the exact same problem but we did not bother sending it back. My Wife also noted that, unlike in the past, the pasta dish was not accompanied by bread. Our shared "smash burger and fries" was disappointing. The burger was over-cooked and the bun was dry (approaching stale). The fries were either left in the cooking oil a tad too long or the oil was dirty--leaving exteriors overly dark. (I was a part-time deep fry cook for a couple of years in college---cooking oil gradually gets "dirty" and, thereby eventually starts to pickup and pass on unpleasant flavors to new food cooked in it. Thus, it needs to be periodically changed out for fresh oil.) In our 60's, we generally do not use any added salt when cooking at home so we may be oversensitive to added salt compared to the general restaurant population but we both noted that the burger and particularly the fries were over-salted. To eat the fries (at least half of which I left uneaten) I had to first brush tangible excess salt off of them with my fingers. Some sound baffling, slightly longer pasta cook times, and a lighter touch on the salt would restore my highest esteem to this still good restaurant!

Had a wonderful experience there Saturday with a friend. Had Ceasar salad, chicken Piccata and shared the flour less chocolate cake. Everything was delicious. We were seated in the area where tables are on top if each other but luckily met a wonderful couple who were very friendly and we had a nice chat. If I had a complaint it would be that I asked how big the salad was because it's listed as an appetizer and our server said it was not that big - it was the size of a whole meal. I was just looking for a side salad. But I shared with my friend and it worked out. OK two complaints, the noise from the bar was deafening. But I would definitely come again and suggest to friends.

Dined with friends at 5:30p on Saturday. Made a reserveation and were seated immediately. The service and food met my expectations. The foccacia and sourdough were excellent. The salmon was very good as was the lamb chops (appetizer ordered as a dinner) and the mushroom pasta. The chicken picatta was overcooked and was less than satisfactory. Carrot cake for dessert was great.
Drinks were the downfall. My wife ordered the gimlet off the menu and the drink was 90% ice. She never complains, but brought this to the attention of our server showing her the glass full of crushed ice. Our server said, "the drink is made before being added to the ice" and then she simply moved on. The situation was clearly not resolved and was not acceptable.
We were able to dine slowly and causually and weren't rushed which was great. Fine experience, but there are lots of great restaurants in Milwaukee.

Disappointed after many great meals here. Two of us ordered the Halibut Saltimbocca, which was a large portion but had no flavor; prosciutto did not pair well with the halibut and risotto added very little taste to the dish. Surpringly very disappointing meal. Should be taken off the menu as it does not meet typical Buckleys quality.
Other meals-Salmon and Chicken were great.

I made reservations for my wife and I to celebrate my birthday. The host was friendly and made sure to mention/confirm the occasion. We were seated right away and greeted by our wonderful server. It was our first time stopping in and she did an excellent job telling us about the restaurant without talking our ears off. We ordered the Arrabbiata and the steak. The fresh made pasta was delicious and had just the right amount of spice and the steak was perfectly cooked (medium-rare) and delicious as well. For dessert we shared the seasonal cheesecake (s'mores) and it was excellent. We couldn't leave without ordering a piece of their "best in Milwaukee" carrot cake to go. Even after an evening in the refrigerator, it lived up to the hype. We will definitely be back in the future.

Her service is readily-adaptive and affirming, with the suggestion of a delicious and nutritious ginger tea (prepared to the perfect temperature where it didn’t need to cool), as well as her happiness in changing a few ingredients in the Baby Greens salads for me to enjoy.

Such joyous and relaxing energy being taken great care of as the sun set on the patio. The kitchen staff performs so efficiently, too, as their pacing of the meal was very impressive. - Excellent work on all fronts.

Buckley's was a nice spot for dinner with good food and great service. My wife got the lobster pasta, which was just okay. The sauce was a bit thin and lacking, but not bad. I had the morel and short rib pasta, which was a special that night and was excellent! For dessert we got the highly recommended carrot cake, and I can see why. Delicious! The menu suggested pairing it with a vermouth so for a few extra dollars I went for it and am glad I did! The old-time mini chalice it came in was worth the price and paired perfectly with the cake and frosting.

Absolutely fantastic! After a long day of traveling and an afternoon walking all around Milwaukee, I came to Buckley’s with my parents for dinner. This converted home has been turned into a fancy-casual restaurant with an exquisite atmosphere. I tried the Broccoli starter, which came with a nice miso tahini sauce that provided a unique flavor. The Buckley Burger was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The meat itself was so high quality and full of flavor, and the crisp brioche bun and toppings and condiments complimented the burger perfectly. I also had the Lobster pasta and it lives up to how delicious a lobster dish has to be. Absolute class when it came to combining the lemon and tomato flavors with the lobster in a light pasta dish. My Dad also says the salmon dish he had was really good. For dessert, it was hard to choose which of Mrs. Buckley’s items to get. We got the famous carrot cake and the seasonal St. Patrick’s cheesecake. All I know is that Mrs. Buckley doesn’t miss! Both desserts were so delicious and the high quality showed once again. The service was great, too. We were never rushed even with the restaurant being packed. The waitress was very nice, answered questions, and told us a little bit about the Buckley family. On top of everything mentioned, the pricing was very good and the portions were large. Overall, this is a restaurant I trust after my first visit. You can’t go wrong with Buckley’s. 5 STARS!!!!!

A beautiful restaurant with excellent food. I had to sit at the bar because I did not have reservations. To be fair it was Valentine's weekend.
I took an out of town guest for dinner and his initial impression was that it was very "fancy". However, after dinner he confessed that it was one of the best meals he had every eaten. He travels for business and eats in many restaurants. He proclaimed that it is certainly a hidden gem in Milwaukee and would definitely return when he is in town.

Buckley’s is superb. I hosted an intimate surprise dinner party here and it was nothing short of spectacular! From the very first phone call with Taylor, to planning the details with Carlie, to the gorgeous ambiance, to the personalized service…and, of course, the selected palette (lovely salmon, brisket, even polenta), wine and divine desserts - everything was perfect. Carlie and Taylor “had me at hello” because they were both good listeners trying to understand my goals and needs. Buckley’s is higher end and worth it! Call ahead to get a sense of parking. One of my new favorites downtown! Atmosphere is warm and inviting. There is a historic appeal mixed with modern flair. Our waiter was fantastic. Did not rush. Well timed meal. Conversational but not invasive. Shared info about the involvement of the family (owners) in the cooking and baking. I had Mahi Mahi on a bed of pasta and pesto. Delicious. First time eating here and can't believe I've left it this long! Wonderful experience from start to finish. From the truffle fired artichokes to the scallops and their house-made pasta, everything was fresh, well presented and, most importantly, bursting with flavor. The scallops were incredible. So tasty and tender with a good degree of spice in the dish. The lobster pasta certainly didn't skimp on the lobster and was perfect. Finished up with a seasonal chocolate peanut butter cake and some Key lime pie that were also outstanding. I enjoyed the atmosphere. It was relaxed up-scale. Not stuffy at all but definitely not your local restaurant either. Staff were very good. Nora, our waitress, was attentive, fun, knowledgeable and efficient. A credit to the establishment. Had a couple of delicious cocktails for good measure. The curry gin gimlet was very good, but the house blanket was even better. So many good-sounding cocktails on the list that we will use as an excuse to come back again. Highly recommended.

We went for my birthday dinner. We split an order of Parmesan fries with truffle cheese whiz, it was delicious and decadent. Each entree we had was spectacular, including the special of the evening which was a chicken in a superb sauce. For dessert I had the cheesecake, our friends split a huge piece of carrot cake, and my husband had the key lime pie. From the before dinner cocktails to dessert to the B&B after dinner, the entire experience was top notch. We will definitely be going back.

We decided to try something new for our anniversary dinner this year. Chose this place after stumbling upon it via open table.

The atmosphere is a 5/5. Super cute little place. Inside is gorgeous. Parking was easy (and free)! Outside tables were nice (although wobbly) and the outside of the building is super cute. That part, was great. But that’s kind of where it ends.

Our server was very awkward and lingered around longer than necessary. It made me feel uncomfortable. He forgot to mention the special and didn’t tell us that they were out of the pork tenderloin until after my husband ordered it. So then he was put on the spot to find another item on the menu. It was just awkward. The food did come out super fast, that was a plus.

Food was meh. The focaccia was huge and pillowy, but so much olive oil. It was swimming in olive oil. The artichoke appetizer was pretty boring. I didn’t feel like I wanted to eat it, just felt like I needed to finish it because we paid for it. Our drinks were so, so. Didn’t really feel like there was any booze in mine. And then we got an espresso martini (waiter suggestion) that was gross. Tasted like straight liquor and was almost $20. Husband got the chicken piccata which he said was good but the only side was spinach with dressing. I got the mushroom pasta which was also good. But it tasted as though I could make it at home and the mushroom pieces were so small. I was disappointed. Finally we got dessert, I wanted the tuxedo chocolate cake but again, our waiter influenced the seasonal cheesecake on us, so we got that. Baileys cheesecake. It was fine, really sweet. Not many flavor notes other than just sweet. Didn’t taste baileys and it was drenched in caramel sauce.

Our bill was over $140 and we left disappointed. Personally I think there are many other (tastier) places to go in the area for special occasions. We won’t be going back here.

Wednesday night walk-in. We were riding bikes looking for a nice dinner. It was 100° outside, hottest day of the year! Initially the hostess said the only spot they had was out on the patio, nope! It was so dang hot out there we just needed air conditioned restaurant with good food. She acquiesced and said give me about five minutes let me see what I can do, and she did it! Put us at a cozy table for two.

Marshall was our server, just the right amount of attentiveness and very helpful with menu questions.

We started with the wedge salad which was crispy and refreshing. We also had the homemade focaccia, very tasty and a large portion.

Dinner was the carbonara, they make their own pasta noodles. It was served with large shavings of Parmesan, and crispy bits of pancetta. It was delicious.

We finished with a chocolate tuxedo cake. Not too chocolatey, and the buttercream frosting was excellent, just the right amount of sweet and butter.

Are you on the fence about eating there? I'd say do it!

This place was accessibly fancy. My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and set a reservation.

Our server was very helpful and kind.

Although I am a vegetarian most of the time, I splurged and ordered the steak which was delicious.

My wife ordered the vegan pesto pasta, which was also to die for.

We also ordered the focaccia and fried artichokes for starters, which I would also highly recommend.

The environment of the restaurant was pleasant.

It was okay at best. I went on Valentine’s Day so maybe it was too busy for them or whatever, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Anyways, I ordered the salmon as “medium” and it came out cold, not warm, or Luke warm, but cold. My significant other ordered the steak which was cooked to the right temp but the cut of the meat looked like what appeared to be flank steak; the price they’re asking for steak seems to be outrageous compared to what you’re getting.

The cocktails were amazing. I got the old fashion, it was pretty expensive ($15) but it was pretty good and came out fast.

The ambience and cleanliness at the restaurant are good too. The food just needed a little work.

I ordered the fish fry and my partner ordered the salmon which were amazing. they have amazing wine options and a ton of food options for both mediators and vegetarians. The weight staff were very hospitable and even offered to give us a brief tour and give us insight into the history of Buckley’s and the Buckley’s family. this small restaurant is definitely one on the quiet and upscale side, and so far it in their craft.

If you've had one chopped chicken salad you've had them all, right? Nah. This is easily the best chopped chicken salad Ive ever had. Acultually filling and tasty and great amount of chicken, croutons, and dressing. Definitely getting again.

We sat outside on the nice patio on Wednesday evening. Got a table right away. Server Sara was awesome.

My wife got the mushroom ragu which she really liked. We got the meatball appetizer which was enough for 2 people to start.

Dessert. Dang. Seasonal cheesecake was incredible. I admit I dont eat cheesecake often, but I would happily wreck my pancreas if I could eat all I wanted of this cheesecake.

We will be coming back to Buckleys.

Top notch service and delicious food. When my friend made the reservation she was able to include allergy information and the server was helpful in explaining what we could eat.
This is not a place for regular meals out. At least not for my wallet.
The primary reason for only 4 stars is because the menu is NOT vegetarian or vegan friendly at all. Granted the menu is limited - a GOOD thing IMO as this allows the kitchen to focus on doing those things really well.
