Just finished eating Dinner here while traveling. If you want great tasting food and a medium price. Then this is the place for you. I had a niceΒ Warfteiner Premium Pilsner BeerΒ with Bavarian pretzels for an appetizer. The mustard and cheese for this appetizer was absolutely the best I have ever eaten. The pretzels are just soft pretzels. Honest reviews are what I strive for even if it hurts some feelings. Then I ordered the "Jaeger schnitzel" with a greek salad and spatzel soup. Remove the "Jaeger" and that is what is served. It is just a breaded pork patty and the noodles are far from original spatzel. NOT impressed. The reason for this choice is that it was the only European item(s) on the menu that I saw. The service was great, people are friendly and we even shared some laughs. But this place is far from a European setting. Serving a couple of imported beers and having one item on the menu isn't par for me either. I lived in Germany for 6 years though, so maybe I have higher expectations than most. Since there isn't much in this area for "quality" choices this is an above standard restaurant for this area. I would recommend but don't go there and expect anything close to authentic. Thanks for reading.

Really tasty food and a wide variety to pick from. A little disappointing that the shops are closed except for one.

The service was extremely inconsistent. We arrived ahead of three different patrons and they got served ahead of us. After the fourth patron that came after us got served that's when I had to speak up. The wait times were incredibly long that other people around us was losing patience and started to complain. The food was top notch, I was definitely impressed and if it wasn't for the hostess who was helping out the waitresses my family and I would have got up and left. The hostess was very attentive and was quick to attend to our needs.

Staff where nice and friendly, I ordered the duck, but was not what it said on menu. Was very rubbery. Think it needs a different way to cook it.

This place is great for lunch. The wife and I stopped in for a quick bite and the atmosphere surprised us from the start. The modern interior enhances the great selections on the menu. I had the French dip sandwich and the flavors melted in my mouth. I will have to come back to try the bar out and see what their cocktails are like.

We were up near Tomah in Sparta? We were visiting Fort McCoy and Burnstad's was recommended. We were one of only four tables of guests. Service was especially sweet. I was supping with octogenarians and there was some confusion x2 with the wine order.
It was our error. The server was gracious, patient and professional. I ordered a well made and tasty German entree. We drank a bottle of Pinot and enjoyed.

This place is awkward. I don't know what I expected but it was weird. The place was huge for the amount of people in it and the food was alright. Nothing to write home about but not bad either. The staff was alright but again nothing to write home about.

Tasty European style dishes, in a large somewhat strange setting (old grocery store converted into a segmented restaurant)... Nice meal and not too spendy. Our 5 year old was treated very well by the team.

Totally pathetic service. The staff is completely indifferent to their own incompetence. And they couldn't care less about how dissatisfied our table was. Seriously move on to the next town.

Very poor service. I left my credit card and called asking if they could mail it back to me because I was going on a trip in one week. The girl assured me that she would that day. When it didn't arrive in five days I called and she said she had forgotten about it. It cost me over $40 to overnight it. The place was under renovation and all the little stores were closed. We always stopped for dinner on our way to our children but never again.

IMPORTANT: the adjacent grocery store that used to be owned by Burnstad's has changed owners (April 2015) and is now just a regular big box grocery store like a cheap Jewel Osco. So check the date of the review before you trust it! That was probably the most disappointing part about the entire evening. I'm half German, so I was looking for some authentic food, maybe some sausage, some heavy German rye bread--no chance. I ended up going to the restaurant for take-out. It wasn't authentic by any means. It also wasn't terrible; better than most American restaurants. I got the Jaegerschnitzel with Spaetzele and the barley soup. Jaegerschnitzel tasted like a frozen pork patty heated up and the veggies were barely cooked. Barley soup was the best part and even that was a bit too salty (not that authentic German food isn't salty). Service was friendly at pub (after 9pm on a Monday) and meal was brought out promptly, which made me suspicious that it was warming under a heat lamp.

Went there for mothers day. First of all when I made the reservation, they messed it all up and made it for the wrong day and wrong time, that should have been my first clue. Service was slow, and the waitress didn't seem to want to accommodate what we wanted as far as any sort of substitute for anything, had to eat everything exactly the way the menu stated. The beef tips were all pre made, so had to have mushrooms and everything right in them. The beef tips were mostly mushrooms and gravy, only 6 small pieces of meat in all of the mush, with a tiny bit of mashed potatoes in the middle. Went with a party of 9 and we all went home hungry, we are not large people, and don't eat a lot. The meals did not even put a dent in my 15 and 16 year olds belly, had to make them lunch when we got home. With the lack of waitresses, ours hardly ever got back to us to refill waters or ask if we needed anything. Very understaffed for mothers day. When we were all finished, just before our waitress asked us if we wanted desert, she brought out some bread for the first time and said, here is some bread you get with your meal! Just before she brought our checks out. The rest of the food was ok. Since they were under staffed the waitress brought out only a few meals at a time, my 9 and 11 year old watched the first 3 adults eat and finish before anyone else got their food. That is just unacceptable, huge no no in the restaurant world. You NEVER bring out meals at different times, you bring as many waitresses as you need to bring out to make sure all food is brought out at the same time. Some were finished before others started. I would never go back, but I am from Onalaska where we have a lot more choices than in Tomah. If I lived in Tomah it would be worth the drive to find somewhere else to eat. Not very impressed at all.

Food was good, not great. Service in the bar was slooow. Finished my beer and water and hadn't been asked if I was ready to order yet!? And there was only 6 people at the bar. Could be a great place with better service. Reading other reviews, this is a common issue.
Stopped for a quick bite for dinner on a drive to Madison, didn't expect, or want it to take 1h50m!
I recommend Peking Chinese in Tomah.

The service was horrible! Half our table got our food while the other waited. We spent $22 on steak and were given 1 piece of bread per order and then were charged when we requested different and more bread. The waitress even reused my straw in my drink when she refilled it(when she wasn't too busy gabbing with the hostess). So half our table watched as the others ate. The food was alright but didn't leave an lasting impression. I'm still trying to figure what European dishes they had beside pizza and sausage. They should be called Burnstad's Typical restaurant with European wine selection who charges for STRAWS! What a joke of an European Restaurant

It had been a while since I've eaten there so I thought I would try it out this evening. Not impressed what so ever. Now I remember why it has been so long. Do not order the open face steak sandwich its a joke. It comes out on a plate so small you can't even figure out how to eat it without making a complete mess. And it's $13 for a quarter of a meal. So disappointing...
