Been here twice, have tried the parmesan crusted walleye and the lake perch, unfortunately the walleye was way too greasy, worst I have ever had and the perch was dry and the coating was over done and too crisp/hard, i have had frozen fish that taste similar or better than this and I can put it in the oven and don't have to spend $3.80 for a drink pepper that is watered down and tastes terrible, not anything like dr pepper should taste.waiter was friendly, the potato pancakes were excellent, as was the coleslaw slaw, tarter sauce and the marble rye bread.so, if you want everything to taste good except the fish, then this is the place for you, for perch this bad, I won't be coming to the butler inn anymore.

Been a patron of this fine establishment for decades! We used to drink, eat and play pool in the back! We'd order lunch from here a couple times a week from the factory and they'd allow me to go pick it up. Made excellent tips! Food was absolutely outstanding! Madeline really screwed my family over tonight for dinner. My whole meal was based on the onion rings and French onion soup appetizers that she decided to bring with the meal. Completely cold because she failed to bring them 10 minutes earlier when they were done. Asked if we wanted fries or chips with our sandwiches, then up charged for them $1.53 each sandwich??
No Comp of any kind. Sorry this was really upsetting. Not sure if we will return. I guess my question is, why not start are order over or at least offer to keep the cold items as a good will gesture? Either would have worked. This would make me feel like I was compensated in some way. Yes, the reason we went was for the Onion rings and Soup. Both my favorite anywhere.

I think for the price this is a good place to eat. Just get your food eat and get out. The waiters in staff are nice to you and I think overall there’s nothing wrong with this place. It’s just you you eat. It’s American place. Just eat and come out that’s itso nothing wrong about it. Nothing too fancy about it. Nothing too good about it. A lot of woodwork tables wood color as well also and you know it’s good. They don’t serve Coke. They serve Pepsi and food came on time. Temperature was good no complaints. I would give it a four out of five. Oh yeah, they are not very, very expensive reasonably priced.

I've been here a few times and enjoy this place. So I brought my brother here for lunch when he came up to visit.
We enjoyed the food and service is great.

As we were leaving, a table of 3 black women took their opportunity to dash on their half eaten order without paying. Honestly not a common sight for me, but now my brother has that logged as a Milwaukee standard.
I feel bad for the restaurants and servers that have to put up with the cultural enrichment.

It was a nice-looking building but the place was freezing cold. Everybody had their jackets on and the bathrooms are not heated at all. The staff was very nice. Clam Chowder had almost no clam and therefore no clam flavor. My vegetables were overcooked but served at room temperature. I had a steak which was decent but the mushrooms out and had absolutely no seasoning. The shoe string onions were very good literally the best part of the meal. I have no reason to go back.

My 1st visit to the Butler Inn. It's historic and interesting, and dates back a century, so the building is predominantly wood, timbers, older glass and decor.
The have a decent selection of food options. However, I felt many of these dishes and sandwiches and more, have nit changed in years. That's fine if the food is outstanding, but my guests and I felt the veggies were not the freshest, and the food was OK, but I can't rate it as more than average.
We had the pan fried, pecan crusted walleye. My friend is gluten-free, so the breading was eliminated. That left way too much pecans for my liking. Her veggies were steamed and basic.
My other friend had the roasted chicken. It was pretty good. They both had Cream of Asparagus Soup - which was the best dish. I tried the Shrimp Stir Fry. The veggies didn't seem fresh. The "sauce" was 1/4 cup of Soy Sauce. Sorry - way too salty. Did they mix up the Teriyaki sauce? Eh, who knows. Yup, just 3 stars for the food.

Wings were ok, we love wings everywhere we go so we had a lot to compare it to and they were ok, sauces were delicious, we had honey garlic, Kentucky bourbon, buffalo, the wings however were ok. The big reason for giving the food 3 stars is because the menu is limited the food itself was very good it would be nice to have more choices. Was our first time trying and it was horrible. Our server was very rude and unhelpful. My food was cold. The Alfredo was water and pasta, when I asked and sent it back the rude waitress brought back a bowl of white yuck sprinkled with parmesan and asked if that would make it okay. When I said no and told my son to order something else she looked at me as if I was getting on her nerves. Can honestly say the only time I've gotten such horrible service was at a drive thru at Popeyes when they said they have no chicken.... Also when ordering anything extra we got the worst attitude from the server. I have nothing positive to say at all.
