A casual spot with Cajun and Creole dishes, plus salads, burgers, etc. for those who want commonplace fare. Prompt, cheery service, good-sized portions for the price, and fun decor. We enjoyed it!

Food and stuff was great but we had an empty bottle of hot sauce at our table and asked for a new one, old bottle was removed we got our new bottle and then we ate paid our check and were getting ready to leave and they asked where the hot sauce was then a lady very rudely followed us outside and shouted something about how they sell it. So while the food and service was good would be nice if the attitude and accusations could be left out

Lunch was amazing. They were very short staffed in both the front and back of house, however, the manager/bartender was phenomenal in dealing with us. We enjoyed the time waiting by drinking local brewed beer and watching tennis. When the food arrived, it was hot and VERY good.

I really enjoy buzzard billys as long as I’m not sitting at the bar. I’ve had great service sitting at tables/booths with the waiters and waitresses, but for some reason every time I go to the bar, the bartender is always rude and snobby. I came to buzzard Billy’s at 8:45pm one night and the host welcomed me with open arms and said I could order my food even tho they were closing early, and I understand i came late, but I was just ordering to eat quick and leave, but the bartender rolls her eyes and tells me to hurry up and order because they’re closing at 9pm. The website said they close at 10pm so I was completely unaware they closed early that night. I was met with such rudeness that I told her since it was obviously so upsetting I will leave and find somewhere else to eat. I sat at the bar once before and had the same bartender who had a shitty attitude and I blew it off thinking it was maybe a bad day, but twice in a row, I think they need to reconsider who faces the public.

The food is very good. Not worth the wait though and our waitress was not nice. We sat there for an hour and a half waiting for our food and she never checked on us or apologized for the wait. When we asked how long it would be, she said she doesn’t know. No apology and apparently had no clue what was going on, nor could provide an explanation. I’m not trying to be a ‘Karen,’ but we’re visiting from Chicago and this wasted so much of our time. I do not recommend stopping here if you’re traveling and have limited tome.

I ordered hush puppies . It was supppse to be an order of five. I got 4. It was okay though because they were so rock hard someone could break a tooth on them . Even my dog didn't want one!
My pasta came Luke warm and the chicken was cold. I had to microwave it. It was bland and the blackened chicken had no flavor .
Overall for what I paid on doordash I wouldn't order again. I'm so disappointed as hush puppy is my favorite and I was looking forward to it as I loved this place in the past . I guess it's went downhill since I last been in in a few years

Fun festive atmosphere. What food I ordered was good as expected. Our waiter was very attentive. The bar liquor policy is a bit off though. They feature Kim Crowford champagne, but you can not get it by the glass! Not everyone want the calories of the whole bottle options to make high caloric drinks.

The garlic parm bone in wings are the best! I was staying at the hotel next door and ordered them 2 nights in a row. Skip the side salad, it was a $7 rip off, barely a half cup of spring mix, a thin slice of one single cucumber, and a sad, pale thin tomato slice. Eek. Maybe that was just my to-go experience with the side salad. Can’t wait to get the ones again when I am in town. Husband has the blackened chicken Alfredo and loves it, the grilled bread is a must as well.

Seemed to be very busy and popular when I was in town, with a wait of near an hour to boot. That being said, it was very worth the wait. Dimly lit interior but nicely decorated and themed. Good and polite staff. I had a fish dinner with hushpuppies and some gator bites. The fry itself tasted slightly over on some gator bites, but everything else was delicious. Recommended spot for a little more down south flavor.

Long wait but it was worth it. We did have dinner at peak time; very busy. Waitress was working her butt off. Food was fabulous. The Starlite Lounge (upstairs) is supposed to be a 60's themed cocktail bar. Piped-in music wasn't Rat Pack or other 60's-style music; Coldplay and current day music! Very disappointing. The decor was great but the music spoiled our visit for me.

Went there last night after a long day of baseball. Ordered cheese curd appetizer and the Billy cheese burgers. The cheese curds were fried to long and had just shells and the burger would have been awesome if it hadn’t been fried to a crisp. Great toppings but fried way too long. Even my 9 year old grandson said it was burnt. Loved the atmosphere. Not likely to return.

My wife and I came through town three years ago and loved this place. So when we came through town again this past weekend, we made sure to stop by Buzzard Billy's again. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the quality of the food this time. It was not the same as what we remembered getting last time. All of our food was oversalted, and it ruined the taste of what would probably have otherwise been the delicious food we remembered. Even the grilled bread was ruined by oversalting - how do you screw that up?! We're assuming the problem was whoever the chef was this past Saturday. Maybe he/she spilled the salt all over the griddle?? If not for the excessive salt in everything, the Cajun recipes here are flavorful.

We had reservations for dinner for a Tuesday night and were so glad we did. Big trade show in town and the place was packed. This made for a very loud dining experience. The food was good but not outstanding. I had gumbo for a starter and jambalaya as an entree. Hubby had a cheeseburger that we said was good. Our favorite part was the unique mocktails. Mine was a strawberry jalapeño margarita and his was a brown cow made with root beer and whipped cream. Both were very good! We had to pay to park in a nearby garage as there was no street parking open.

We had time to kill on a Saturday. We went here for drinks and to share appetizers.
Pina Colada was huge- delicious. The pork nachos were large, a good amount of pork, but had a ton of beans and some watery dark juice from the beans had soaked into the bottom of the plate. The apple salsa was very good with those.
Skip the alligator - we ate it but it was full of breading and chewy like calamari. It comes in tiny pieces with a lot of breading.
We got a table right away and the server was friendly.

We stopped in for an early dinner, 5:00 pm last Saturday. We were told the wait would be about 20-30 minutes... it ended up being about 15. We ordered Gator Fingers as an appetizer, they were great. We ordered the Alligator Gran Chenier, Seafood Jumbalaya, and two Chicken Gumbos. The buttered garlic bread was great. All of the food was great and genuinely spicy (a good thing). We were told that we had to try Buzzard Billy's Armadillo Eggs in La Crosse, so we found the restaurant during our Wisconsin Road Trip and ordered some up. Not my usual style of food, but I liked them! The outside of the "egg" (a little smaller than a baseball) was covered in crisp, slightly spicy bacon and there were jalapeño slices inside the chicken center as well, but overall, the armadillo eggs were pleasantly spicy and not too hot. After a couple of those, however, a house salad and a Spotted Cow were absolutely all I needed as a meal! I really like their homemade ranch dressing -- great on the "eggs" as well as on the salad. We had a fun night, and Chelsie was friendly and helpful.

Came in on a Thursday at 5pm, hardly anyone dining at the time. From time of order until our food arrived was about an hour. Tables who sat 15 minutes prior to us received their stuff first. Fries were cold along with another 2 dishes. Must’ve forgot the other meals and left them sit to cool down. I am not sure what has happened to this place the service is miserable. My childs quesadilla was probably sitting under a heat lamp long enough for her to cut another tooth. Very disappointed in what was a good place to dine with the family. Prepare to sit there long enough for the buzzards to start picking at you like the cold carcass you are to the staff.

Server was a train wreck! Manager was worse!!! A single portion of salad or pasta is big enough for a family of four, making this the number one restaurant of waist in all of my reviews.... The way they handed my concerns regarding the food waist was almost as bad as the amount of food I saw being thrown away. Shame on the owners ! The photos are what's left after we were completely stuffed from eating. The food is great, just split whatever you're having and plan on leftovers.

This is a place for big eaters. I enjoyed my meal and so did everyone else in my party, but we took quite a bit home.

Emma is fabulous!
But...All the food is over processed and overpriced. This place has a great staff and atmosphere. However, the food is not fresh. All sides and main meals are microwaved and from a can or package. While they do not offer a fresh menu options. Being in Wisconsin potatoes are a crop that can actually be done fresh for the same price (or cheaper) as the microwave fries they provide. Very little accommodations are made for ppl with allergies or anyone seeking healthy options.
Even the rice and salads are premixed with no options to avoid cross-contamination. For the money they charge all of this food can be provided fresh. Including hiring a head chef with actual knowledge of Creole foods and their significance without cutting wages.
Buzzard Billy's owner please do better! Thank you!
P.s. I surveyed employees who also agree.

Been returning for a few years now for the wings and boneless wings. Today we tried the fish which was fantastic. The breading was really crispy and the tartar sauce was house made and so fresh. Service can be a little slow though like every restaurant these days they seem understaffed. Definitely recommend. Also good selection of tasty local beers.
A year later wings are still fantastic! We also tried the catfish and pepper jack bites. Catfish was really good with clean flavor not fishy. Pepper jack bites were stringy and had a good flavor to them. The batter was crispy and light. Service was much faster this year but it was Monday as well.

This place was so good I ended up going back multiple times while I was in town! The outside is very unassuming, but take a chance and stop in! The staff is extremely pleasant and the food is top notch. My favorite quickly became the crab corn soup, but everything I had was great! It's also in very close proximity to the conference center and other cute places on Pearl st. Don't miss this place if you're in the area! A note: they also have a separate gluten free menu if you have dietary restrictions.

Buzzard Billy’s has been a staple in La Crosse for as long as I can remember, and it continues to deliver a great dining experience. Our server greeted us promptly, and we started with drinks and an appetizer.
For the main course, I ordered the blackened prime rib with a blackened shrimp add-on, along with the fried alligator. The prime rib, offered only in medium well or well done due to the blackening process, was surprisingly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The blackened shrimp was good, but the up-charge didn’t feel entirely justified. The side vegetables, unfortunately, were a miss—over-seasoned and either steamed or boiled. I only ate the broccoli.
That said, the atmosphere is great, and the restaurant remains a solid choice for a good meal. If you’re in the mood for Cajun-inspired flavors and a fun environment, Buzzard Billy’s is worth a visit!
Would you add anything, or does this capture what you were going for?

Stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner on a Friday afternoon.
All of our meals (and poutine appetizer) were excellent with huge portions and reasonably priced. Our server Chase, was attentive, personable and professional. Will definitely visit on our future trips to La Crosse.

Good atmosphere. The service is really good. It takes some time to get a table.
The food is good quality. However, it's a far cry from authentic Creole or Cajun food. What a joke.
I would recommend getting anything BUT their "Creole or Cajun" menu items.
They do have a decent bar, and their prices are fair.

Don’t appreciate being told to move multiple times at the bar. There’s a nicer way to ask while not making a customer feel like they are in the way. Plenty of other friendlier places in the area to drink.

I'm a foodie and I often try places and sometimes I am disappointed because I would've made it better at home. But Buzzard Billy's was delicious. Went there with friends and loved it so much that I went the following weekend with the Hubby. It's also conveniently right next to the parking garage so there isn't a need to parallel search for a spot.
