I’ve been going to Café Hollander for years, and it just dawned on me that I’ve never left a review. Actually, let me rephrase that—I’ve been to almost all of their locations: Downtown, Mequon, Brookfield, and Wauwatosa.

Why? Because Café Hollander just works for almost everything. Need a spot to grab drinks after work with colleagues? Check. Date night? Check. Rooftop hangout with friends? Check. Family in town? Still check. I’ve even attended a graduation party/luncheon at one of their locations.

Somehow, Café Hollander has become one of those places everyone ends up at, which says a lot about the atmosphere and the food. I’ve run into friends there purely by coincidence—and even spotted a Milwaukee Bucks player once at the Mequon location.

They’re probably best known for their brunches, and for good reason—their Bloody Marys are excellent. I like a little spice, so I usually go with the Spicy Badger or the Milwaukeean (ask for hot sauce). Pair that with their Cheese & Bacon Omelette or the “Hot Mess,” and you can’t go wrong.

For lunch or dinner, I like almost all of their burgers, but the Big Smokey and the Sconnie are my favorites. You also can’t go wrong with the Grilled Cheese Beef Tosti or the Meatloaf. All of them go great with their house beers. I love Belgian styles, so I usually go with the Theresa Tripel Blonde. I only wish I could buy some of their beers at the grocery store—you have to visit the restaurant to get them.

As a parent, the kids’ menu is a must for us. Thankfully, the grilled cheese, meatloaf, and French toast are all popular choices with our little one. Milk or apple juice are the go-to drinks. And we rarely leave without dessert—the Big Fudge Brownie is a perfect family shareable treat. You’ll probably have it all over your face by the end, but that’s half the fun.

Of course, these are just my personal favorites. There are plenty of other menu items worth trying, and that’s probably why we keep coming back. It’s a great place to sit out on the patio when the weather is nice, and the service is consistently excellent.

In a time when customer service can be hit or miss, Café Hollander locations continue to stand out.

In summary: something for everyone, great food, great service, casual atmosphere, usually easy parking, and a welcoming vibe. What more do you really need?

Cafe Hollander in Brookfield will always have a special place in my heart! Corey, Chester, and the whole staff were absolutely amazing - friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to be there. Dishonest and disappointing. I never give a poor review but this is that occasion. In the photo are certificates with no expiration date that I purchased at an auction. The instructions say buy a growler and we’ll fill it. Staff refused to honor the certificates which are from 2020 - during COVID but have no expiration. We were honest and mentioned we had misplaced them but they are intact and unused. I refuse to patronize dishonesty and poor customer service. What a shame. We would have spent $100 or more for dinner but instead we left and won’t be back. It would cost nothing to honor our purchase of the growler and fill it to create a lasting impression and customer relationship.

Chester provided incredible service and was super responsive and friendly. I love this place and have been to their other locations. The sliders, frites, pretzel bites are always my fave and of course….the Theresa Tripel! You all should definitely check this place out and be sure to say hi to Chester! overall my experience was not up to my low standards as a young adult. i asked to order off the kids menu wondering but not needed. they said yes but would give us a $4 up charge, thinking it would give more food knowing its for adults i ordered them. after waiting 30 minutes our food arrived with 2 chicken tenders smaller than a finger that were overcooked and a mere handful of fries, including soggy fruit and minimul vegetables. our night is ruined, the quality of service was awful, getting helped only once. i love this place but $12 for 2 chicken tenders is overwhelming and outrageous, do better.

The service was great, friendly and fast to refill drinks, clear the table, and check on us. The food came out incredibly fast. It was maybe 10 minutes. It's a beautiful place. My husband got the falafel bowl and loved it.. My toddler and I ordered the double smashed beet burgers with basil sauce which was awesome. I'm not a beet fan at all, but was limited with the vegan options. I also do not like the smell or taste of violife cheese, and forgot to ask her to remove it. It was still the best burger I've ever had!! Seriously sooo good. My toddler also loved the vegan garlic aoli sauce with her fries and beet burger. . My iced vanilla latte was also good. Only thing that was unpleasant was how hot and bright out seating was. We asked for a seat inside, and this was partially outside. My daughter was restless, and didn't want to eat, and I was sweating. Savanna F was great. We will make the trip from Janesville again soon.

We came here for Easter and was super disappointed. Had a 9:15am reservation, it was not busy whatsoever. My benedict was luke warm when I got it, the silverware was dirty and caked up with prior dessert from the night before, and our server never checked in on us and stood talking at the host stand the entire time. Will not come back here. Way over priced for the food to be mediocre. Shouldn’t have had to pay for any of it in all honesty.

Food missed the mark unfortunately we go often and it always spot on. Pancakes had been on the griddle way to long. Burnt, hard, black char, sausage was over cooked and dry, avocado toast was not good the bread you couldn't even cut it with a knife. Try chewing it not fun!!! Two of us had soup. We waited an hour for soup and never were served. Manager never came out to our table, even after multiple issues with ordering. I’ve been at this location twice in the last couple of months and didn’t have good service either time. Yesterday it seemed like our server did not have the time of day for us. We came around 11:30, after the morning rush and before the lunch rush. It was fairly quiet in there. There wasn’t even a wait for a table. He didn’t introduce himself and just asked what we wanted to drink. We told him and he left right away when we were going to order appetizers. When he came with the drinks he was spilling them as he brought them to the table and made no mention of this or offered to help wipe it down. After this he was MIA. Someone else brought the food, we were never offered refills on drinks until my friend was done with her food and he reached over her without warning to refill her water when we were ready to leave. He started to grab my plate when I had to explain I would like a box.

I do not like to complain about anyone who is a waitress or waiter, I know how stressful the job can be and very much appreciate those who do this job. But it was definitely a miss.

The server really tried to do her best but when the food is not great, there is nothing you can do. We were here last year and it was ok, but last week was unfortunately a disaster! It was Friday evening and they did not take reservations. When we arrived we were told it could take around 30 minutes, but we were seated only after 1:15 minutes. The Brussels sprout appetizer was oily and over cooked, almost burned. The Friday fish fry was a disaster! mushy from the inside and over cooked, almost burned on the outside. We showed it to the server and she brought us 2 better fish pieces, but we wouldn't expect the kitchen to serve it this way in the first place! The beet and strawberry salad was not fresh at all, no crispness and mushy. Not sure what happened this time but we felt bad specially that we had friends over from Chicago.
