I’m not kidding when I say I had the most pleasant experience ordering from Cafe India tonight. Unfortunately, their delivery system was acting up and my order didn’t go through properly. The staff was so quick to get my order down, offer me a drink while I waited, and got an order made up for me as soon as they could. Everyone was so wonderful and kind. We have been coming here for a few years and without exception, every meal we have had was prepared perfectly. The butter chicken is the finest I’ve had in the US. I ordered the Malabar and had mixed feelings about it. The curry was surprisingly thin, which became especially noticeable when I poured the sauce onto my plate. I ended up using more rice than expected, and the sauce didn’t pair well with the chicken. I probably shouldn’t have ordered it hot—it overwhelmed the coconut flavor, which was already hard to detect. The chicken itself was oddly soft, almost mushy from being overly tender. Cafe India is a go-to, tried and true kind of place. Ive never had anything I didn’t like from Cafe India, and I’ve tried a pretty good portion of the menu. This place is perfect for a lazy-takeout night in, a lunch with friends, or an upscale dinner date. It can be whatever you want it to be. The service is great, atmosphere good, prices decent, and food tasty. And it’s Indian, which means it is perfect for your gluten free or vegetarian loved ones. I've been coming to this place for at least 5 years! When friends/family visit me, Cafe India is in my top 5 restaurants I take people to give them a taste of what Milwaukee has to offer; it's definitely the best Indian restaurant around.

I personally find TVs distracting at dinner, thus the low rating on atmosphere, BUT it is cool that they play Indian Music Videos as it gives you more of a taste for the culture. With that in mind 3 stars for atmosphere, but it's more of a personal preference on my part - the places is decorated nicely. I would give it 5 stars of there were no TVs and they just played Indian music over the sound system.

My husband and I ordered takeout online. The process for ordering and pickup was efficient and the staff was courteous. However, the food was surprisingly bad...obviously overrated and just downright disappointing...The rice dishes, biryanis, were soggy, salty, and overcooked and so were the vegetables--possibly the worst biryani I ever tasted. The Malabar was bland, runny, and yet unexpectedly sweet. There was nothing good about the meal experience...We love Indian food, preferring to cook it home, but, are always checking for decent local restaurants. We have eaten at the South-1st-resturant and had good experiences, so, we thought that we try out the meal experience at the main restaurant, too... and surprisingly... We sat at the bar, hoping for quick service nut waited 10 minutes for water but flagged down someone to place an app order first. Still had to wait and flag down someone again to place a drink order. I keep saying someone because no introduction was made.

I recently dined at cafe India bar & Grill and had a mixed experience. The jerra rice was decent, but the kadai chicken fell short of expectations. While the portion size was generous, the flavor profile didn't align with what I've come to expect from a traditional kadai chicken.
If you're a fan of authentic kadai chicken, I'd recommend exploring other options. However, if you're looking for a filling meal and don't mind a slightly different take on the dish, Mango Lizzi might be worth a try. I do suggest offering smaller portion sizes like quarter, half, or full to cater to individual preferences.

This was our family's 1st visit for dinner here. The food was quite good. The server recommended starters - Chile Paneer and Veggie platter. Both were delish. We ordered a host of other dishes, some gluten-free, others not, including Curry Chicken, Marsala Chicken, Tika Chicken, Tandoori Chicken and a few more. This is our family's top favorite restaurant in the entire Milwaukee area. My husband and now daughter and I have had the pleasure to eat here for 10 years and still blown away every visit. Was disappointed that they didn’t have a lunch buffet, despite reviews saying it is really good. What we ordered was good, but pretty standard as far as Indian restaurants go. Had we known there wasn’t a buffet, we would’ve opted for trying somewhere else. To me, having a little taste of everything from the buffet is what makes it a better experience.
