Went there tonight instead of a fast food joint and soooo glad we did! The bartender was super nice and attentive (never got her name) but "retired air force lady" who just doesn't want to stop working. Joe the owner was the chef and all we can say is " keep up the good work" cause it was awesome! Our heartfelt symphony to Joe and his family who lost their son Ryan in Iraq. God Bless You! We will be back!

Waited forever to get seated, was acknowledged when walked in said one second and she continued to talk 4 different walk up the bar drink orders, got seated and our waitress never came a different one had to go find our waitress, finally got ordered steaks were chewy and over cooked. The best part was baked potato. Had to get someone else's attention to get our bill and left. Our waitress barely checked on her tables hid in the kitchen. First and last time going.

2021.....Fish(Perch, bluegill) had very little flavor. Very bland. Prime rib tasted like roast beef and was one of the worst I have had. Very tender, though. Old fashioneds are very good and after dinner ice cream drinks are great, too. The onion ring loaf was excellent, as well.
Edit: 3-29-2025... worst Prime Rib I have ever had, no flavor whatsoever this time and tough and chewy. Food hasn't gotten any better, rib eye my dad had was seriously subpar, mom's chicken was dry and tough. Won't need to come back until it changes ownership.

Gold star family owned and operated. Understaffed but the staff is very friendly and hard working!!! Had a small wait for a Friday night, maybe 15 minutes tops even with the place being busy. The garlic cheese curds were very good. Hot, lightly battered and not overly greasy. Asked for prime rib but it was the most popular steak of the day so got a ribeye instead. Almost 2in thick, tender, full of flavor and juicy. My dad got the clam chowder and filet mignon, tender and well cooked. Large baked potato for a side dish. The waitress was extremely friendly, would definitely recommend and return.

At the start, siting down the crackers were packaged in food saver sealer bags at 2 crackers in each package which was not done commercially that should have been our clue to leave then. My $36 ribeye steak was pretty sad I've had McDonald's cheeseburgers that thicker and had more flavor then this slab of meat. It was like they took a ribeye steak and cut in 1/4 with a ban saw.The salad had cherry tomatoes that were at the end of their lifespan as far as being edible. My Gf had the 6oz stuffed tenderloin that was maybe the size of a hockey puck and they weren't stuffed everything was on top of the tenderloin. The couple that was with us she was supposed to have an 8oz tenderloin and came out maybe a 4 to 6 oz at best. The drinks were weak and the staff was way under staffed. At best. If I was to give a rating it would be a half star and that's it. You'd be better off goin to Culver's for dinner and saving some $$ and woukd be more satisfied then the dinner was at Buckhorn steakhouse in Beaverdam

My birthday celebration dinner at Cantafio's was very enjoyable, with even a helium Happy Birthday balloon attached to my chair, and a complimentary dessert of confetti cake. Service was a bit strained at times with limited staffing challenges, consistent with the notice posted on the entry door about that issue, asking for patience. However, there seemed to be good teamwork amongst the staff to help each other out, regardless of table assignments. Our food was quite good generally, if not great. My "Ryan's House Cut" 12oz strip steak had a nice charbroiled flavor, and was fairly juicy despite being cooked to a medium temperature instead of medium-rare as ordered. My wife's liked her "Blackened Tuna Steak", which was cooked to the right temperature (rare). However, it lacked the seasoning and flavor that one expects for any "blackening" recipe (not just pan searing). My son also enjoyed his 4-piece Broasted Chicken, although he was underwhelmed by his choice of Mac & Cheese as a side, which was seemingly prepared straight out of a Kraft box recipe. Lastly, the atmosphere at Cantafio's is that of a rustic, but extremely friendly, supper club, As you may expect, walls are adorned with some taxidermy, consistent with the restaurant's name, Cantafio's Buckhorn Steakhouse. With extensive menu choices at reasonable prices, it's a bit of a hidden gem for those seeking casual "fine" dining.

I love their ideology, values and patriotism. I support them for supporting our military and sorry for their loss being a Gold Star Family. I have 2 kids in the Army as well and thank them for that. I would say I will go back to support them because we align. My wife and I went there for our first time ever and the food was just ok. We expected it to be better for a steak place. The service was excellent and attentive.

To the non locals, this is a hidden away gem. We stopped there on our way home to Chicago, on a Saturday afternoon. Didnβt have reservations and Iβm not sure if thatβs how they work but the wait was only 20 min and well worth it. The atmosphere was fantastic. Quiet, friendly and cozy. They make you feel like youβre family. Everyone is super friendly. The service was outstanding. We ordered the sirloin stake for two. How does one describe perfection? We have finally come across a place that literally serves the perfect stake. Between bites, my friend and I looked at each other and said βitβs only a two hours drive, weβre coming backβ

Short staffed for the night but everyone stepped up and did a fantastic job. Constantly checking on customers, making sure they have enough drinks and sometimes being chatty. My girlfriend had the snow crab and I had the porterhouse. Both were very well prepared and delicious. I'm definitely coming here again.

Good experience overall. There is a lot of supper clubs in the southern half of Wisconsin and this one has good food, relatively quiet atmosphere, at least on the Saturday night we were there. Is it the knock your socks off, over-the-top stellar supper club of supper clubs? No. But it is a reliable choice of places to go out to eat that wonβt disappoint.

Stopped in on our way home from a nearby outing a few months ago. We entered the bar area and saw no hostess. No eye contact from the bartender. We were left standing there wondering if we were to check in somewhere else. Waitresses and possible hostess walked by us several times without acknowledgement. It got to be almost 20 minutes and was so uncomfortable. We were finally seated with no menu or water and it was an additional 10 minutes before someone yelled over to us whether anyone had taken our order. Our waitress was pleasant enough. The food was mediocre. We generally experience friendly service in small towns but on this visit, they seemed to only cater to locals. Probably won't be back.

The food was good but two out of three in the party are sick the next day with stomach cramping and diarrhea. We all had the prime rib. The only difference between the the ones who got sick was the salad dressing and cucumber. We had ranch dressing and cucumbers and the other person didn't.

Bobbie and Joe treat you like Family. The food is so good, I can't even relay how good it is.
My favorite is Wednesday night and Joe's spaghetti and meatballs, I could eat this every day!

New to the area and have been trying different supper clubs and steakhouses. This one is by far my favorite. They were busy, but were on top of it getting us our table. Food was good. I wanted the catfish, but it was not available that night so i opted for the cajun walleye. It was good, but I'd order something else next time. Service was top notch and friendly. Will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend. Well done.

Went there for Veterans Day (2022). Wonderful and free meal for veterans. Old fashions are great and I had a Brandy Alexander for dessert. I had not had one in years and was glad I found one so good. Love how they honor their son who died in Afghanistan. There are pictures of him and I believe parts of his Army uniform. It was busy so I didnβt wander over to see it but I sure will on my next visit.They honor veterans by providing meals. They have frog legs so I canβt wait to try those.
It was very busy and I think it always is, which attests to the great food, atmosphere and service with a smile.
Personally, if Iβm getting a free meal I tip the cost of the meal.

It was an honor to eat at this restaurant and well worth the 1 1/2 hour drive. The Gold Star owners paid an ultimate sacrifice to our country with the loss of their Marine son and I am honored that they paid for my dinner this evening for being a Marine Corp veteran! THANK YOU and I salute you and your staff! On to the foodβ¦ my wife had ribs and she absolutely loved them! I usually donβt order restaurant ribs because I prefer to cook my own (mine are the best of course! LOL)β¦. but I tried a bone off my wifeβs plate and I must say they were delicious and I would absolutely order the ribs next time we dine here! I had the prime rib and it was absolutely delicious too! The service was great, Brandy was our server! And we are looking forward to dining here again! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience and THANK YOU for your sons service and sacrifice to our great country!

I haven't been here for a couple years so we went recently in the middle of the week. The place hasn't changed inside much. I ordered chicken which had a salad and baked potato and my wife had fish. The salad was just some lettuce with 2 cherry tomatoes at least we had a choice of dressings. The potato came with no sour cream nor were we asked if we wanted any. Wife got no tartar sauce for the fish also. We ran out of water a couple times also. People were friendly and that's about it. Will I go back, probably not. Just my honest response.

Steak that wee asked for Medium Well was Rare... I don't eat steak that's still mooing... Busy place, if you like meat that's done rare, you'll probably really enjoy it.
Staff is very nice which is why I'm giving it two stars & the drinks were very good, even got an ice cream drink after- best part of the meal and thankful my daughter was able to get one without alcohol even though it wasn't on the menu.
So why I deducted stars, which is really difficult for me from here because family know them and they are wonderful people who had a tragic loss of their son in the military....
-Bathroom had leftovers in it (bartender made the comment that it was probably from last night, first thing my sister in law asked me was, didn't they clean it?). So had to remove a star for that. Also Removed one because all of us but two were given rare steaks. Even those that prefer medium said it was under done for their liking and my center was still cold- I didn't eat the rest of it there after I figured that out, just brought it home to finish cooking it.
Personally was not my favorite place to eat, I wouldn't go back. Thought it was VERY pricy, not seasoned well. My in-laws were happy with their meals- their steaks were cooked as asked, or a little under done, but not as under done as the rest of ours.
So the cost makes me want to deduct another start, but I'm not sure that's enough reason to.
Just to compare though- We go out to super clubs often in Green Bay and it was at least an extra $10 a plate compared to what we just paid in Green Bay (mind you my 32 ounce steak, double salad bar trips and double potatoes option that I got at out o town cost the same as the 6-8 ounce steak here 2 weeks apart). The drinks I thought were better at Cantafios & the bartender was great when he remade a drink that didn't taste quite right at no extra charge. Feel like it was heavy on the pour as well in comparison.

This place is good for the area. We traveled about 30 minutes to come here based on the reviews. Honestly, it wouldn't be worth a 30 minute trip for me again. It was your typical Wisconsin supper club. As others have said, there was a wait even after our reservation time (25 minutes past reservation). Once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes to put our drink order in. It was a bit pricey compared to others. For two fish dinners (not all you can eat), one old fashioned and one soft drink it set us back more than $40.
I think if you're willing to wait, and are already in the area, it's not a bad spot for dinner. But I wouldn't make the drive again.

Hands down the BEST eatery in Beaver Dam! The service was simply outstanding. Very warm, welcoming and friendly and you never had an empty drink on your table. Even more, the food was phenomenal. The Buckhorn Tradition - a deep fried onion with chipotle sauce, was huge! The steak was perfectly cooked and hit the spot, too. Altogether, everything was fresh and hot. One of my favorite aspects, however, was the beautiful homage to the owners fallen veteran son. Bringing his story into their restaurant provided a touching aspect to my visit. Kudos to the owners for providing free meals to veterans, too. The owners, along with the staff, truly put their heart and soul into this steakhouse. It is immaculately clean and provides a wonderful atmosphere for a dinner out. My husband and I would happily make the drive from Appleton to return. Highly, highly recommend - it's worth the stop!

Live in the area, 1st time here. Will be a bit before we come back. I had the 24oz bone in Ribeye. Steak was cooked medium rare as I requested. Did not have much flavor. Between the Auju and the steak itself was just blah. My wife had the breasted chicken. It was so dry she could not eat it. Our server never came back other wise we would have sent it back. The next time we seen are server she had our check. We asked if we pay her or upfront. My wife mentioned after dinner drinks. Our server said we can go to the bar if we want an after dinner drink and to pay the hostess station. We paid and left. Because the bar was full. Stopped at a different place for our after dinner drink. Not impressed.

Have been going there since the early 90's. Don't live in the area but when I am, I go there for dinner. Was there last weekend with a party of eight. They serve awesome steak at a reasonable price. You will not be disappointed!

Wife's bacon wrapped blue cheese tenderloin was good. The old fashions and Pinot Noir was great. Service was friendly but slow, staffing is a problem these days so can't expect much. Total supper club feel which is great. I ordered the 16oz $39.00 filet and it came out in two pieces and not good at all. A 16 oz filet cut and cooked in half? Did. I order a 6 oz and a 10 oz filet, because thats what i got. Certainly not aged meat and certainly not what I would call a "Fine Steakhouse". Order the onion loaf to eat with your steak to help with the flavor, and plenty of drinks. Still would give the overall good marks but not great.

**2 visits** I went in a group and the staff just seemed to be overwhelmed. The food was under cooked, and cold. It was not what I consider a "Steak House" or the quality of what I consider a "Steak House".
The second visit was near the same experience. We (5 of us) came in, they moved us from two tables because they couldn't communicate. Again, unable to handle the large group (about 20) that was there; in addition to the other customers. If there is a large group that is coming in you might as well leave and save yourself the time. But this time the food was great. Overall I will not come back. They clearly need new staff or restructure of how they operate.

We have been trying to find another place for a fish fry as our favorite places have closed. We tried the Buckhorn. I tried the fresh lake perch and was amazed at how good it was my wife thinking I was exaggerating tried a bite and was equally amazed. Her exact words were I think we found our new fish fry place. We will be back.

I was in town on business. On the first night I stopped at a βsteak houseβ that will go unnamed. I walked out, after barely getting my chair warm.

Terrible service. The owner was one of the rudest I've ever encountered. Absolutely horrid "cream of mushroom soup" that was dark brown and had a taste of spoiled seafood. Prime rib was cooked to perfection but had no seasoning on it at all. Not a salt speck or a pepper flake in sight. Thank goodness for the side of horseradish. All in all it was an experience I will take a lifetime pass on.

My wife and I ate here for the first time Saturday night. Our reservations were messed up and we ended up waiting an hour for a table. However, the bartender was excellent. Great service. The food was fantastic. I had the crab stuffed shrimp and my wife had the tenderloin. We will definitely be back!

Nice place. I know help is hard to get but they need more or don't use the dinning room. Ordered at the bar and still took way to long to get seared and served. Food wasn't all that good. Had brosted chicken. Hot but not much taste and very oily! Don't think I will go back.
