All entrees were delicious. Server was spectacular and made our evening a delight. We were celebrating a birthday and were pleasantly surprised when the recipient was served a scoop of gelato with a candle and a birthday wish. It was a bigger shock that we were charged $9.00 for the surprise treat that we never ordered and was served without a request. My suggestion? Ask complete questions prior to ordering and beware of celebrations!!!!!

Carmella's was my favorite dining establishment when I worked in Fox Valley at Kimberly-Clark. Every out of towner I hosted at the restaurant gushed with praise at the high quality of the meal as well as it great prices. Having not been back since 2014, I was looking forward to taking my daughter and her fiancé to Carmella's for a great meal. $300 later, the experience left me wanting the old days. $3 for bread service (6 inch piece and olive oil)? Added cost for gluten free prep? Okay, I guess. But when the veal parm dish was served in a bowl and not the plate full of goodness the entree once was, I couldn't help but be disappointed. Will I go back? Probably, as my daughter has a hard time finding restaurants with gluten free offerings (other than salads and burgers w/o buns) she likes, but I will go in with my eyes open and watch for the nickel diming that is not clearly called out on the menu or by the wait staff....

This place is a WOW! We are visiting the Oshkosh EAA Airventure and had dinner there tonight. The food came quickly and hot, tasted incredible and the atmosphere is warm. Nearly a $400 dinner for 6 adults, 2 teens, and 2 toddlers. Two Rigatoni dinners were not cooked enough with crunchy shells and a $50+ special steak ordered medium arrived nearly raw, luke warm and Luke warm sides. Sent steak back and it had been refired but the sides were remade. Waitress was awesome. Salads were excellent. Frances was good. Because of the most expensive entree was cooked incorrectly and it was apparent it sat while the other entrees were cooking and the Rigatoni was between crunchy and under cooked, we gave this over priced eatery a 3 for food, 4 for taste and 5 for service. Low score wins because of the refired steak.

The meal was unsatisfactory. The spaghetti with meatballs lacked flavor and was not worth the price; a comparable dish could have been prepared at home. My husband's fillet mignon was acceptable, but overall, the dining experience did not justify the expense. The host's condescending demeanor was also disappointing. When offered indoor or outdoor seating, and upon assuring him that full weather protection was sufficient for outdoor dining, his dismissive response was unprofessional. I specifically said, "As long as it's fully covered outside, we'll eat outside." He specifically replied, "That's what I said." As in, lady I just told you it was fully covered outside.

We'll pass on any future outings to this place. Culver's offers better service.

Only positive was our waitress. She was sweet. Loved to smile.

The food was really really good... I would probably classify this as more high end Italian than I would honestly classic Italian. But the flavors were outstanding and we both loved our entrees and our desserts. They had a good wine selection as well. And the service was amazing... very attentive and friendly without being too pushy or interrupting too often. The hardest part was trying to pick which dish to have. We will definitely need to go back and try out some more options. Good job Carmella's.

Exceeded my expectations. Passing through Appleton and wanted some Italian but not your Olive Garden fair something nicer. Saw Carmella's here on google with high reviews. Arrived with my mother who has some mobility challenges. I left the car with flashers on in fronts and walked her in to be greeted by the hostess who asked if I wanted to sit outside on their back patio or inside. When I said outside they suggested I drive around back to make things easier which was very thoughtful. The menu was a bit more expensive than I would have expected in the Appleton area. Though everything looks well thought out on the menu. We ordered two glasses of wine which were normal sized pores. Water pitcher on the table is convienient. I then had the arugula salad and the bread service. The salad will you split and they brought it out split in very large portions. Was delicious with the goat cheese dates and just the right amount of balsamuc. Bread was also excellent with vinegar and oil. I would have appreciated a little bit of salt on the side. For mains we had the salmon and the pesto ravioli. Both were spectacular. I don't know how they did the salmon. It was very flavorful and crunchy on the outside braised in some fashion. Wait staff was very attentive. Cierra was fun, hard working. Was nice to see them working as a team to clear plates and such. I found it interesting that they were playing 70s popular music not the cliche Italian. Was refreshing and fun. For dessert we had the tiramisu. Was encouraged to see it come out in a serving glass not on a plate. Though it could have used a little more espresso and amaretto.
Please be advised they do charge 4% for a credit card, so bring some cash. Don't be afraid to go here because they are in a strip mall. It was excellent.

Beautiful dinner at Carmella’s. Excellent service and timed out perfectly. We started with a bread service, Manila clams in a garlic white wine sauce and a lovely beef carpaccio with arugula salad. 10/10. We then split chicken Francese and a housemade ravioli with shrimp. After reading the reviews good and bad I have to say we had a 4.8 experience! I treated my son on his 18th birthday to this 1st experience for the both of us. His response was "This is the best food I ever ate! " I agreed! 💯! I said almost Gordon Ramsey experience. Although I've never had a Gordon Ramsey experience I watch every show. Lol. I agree with other dinners the bread needs butter on the table to complete the bread or offer more oil. Our waiter was great! I was intimidated by the reviews and didn't want to ask too many questions but watched how he worked the guests around us and was able to see see his great customer service. Best experience we have ever had in the valley with outstanding food! I'm so glad my son will remember his 18th birthday and the great food we shared!!! We will be back!!!

Ok. So I must start with the fact that I have not yet been to Carmella’s. I however am a server at an Italian restaurant and I had the great pleasure of waiting on the owners of this restaurant. I will say that they were the most pleasant and wonderful people and i would be honored to enjoy a meal created and served by them. What a wonderful family filled with love. I have looked at their menu and would absolutely order the pappardelle with Asiago cream sauce and likely the Marsala! Yum. Everything looks fantastic and these are the kind of people that I would absolutely support and want to trust to give me a fantastic dining experience! Hope to try it soon!

We absolutely loved this restaurant! It's an awesome place for an excellent dinner. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. My husband had clams for an appetizer, and spaghetti with meatballs in marinara.He loved everything. I had ravioli with pesto and it was the best I've ever had. I would just like to say- I am never disappointed here. I’m a huge Italian connoisseur which also means I’m hard to please, this is the only restaurant in the valley where the food has satisfied the basil shaped hole in my heart.

The waiters are super professional and personable. I’m not the most comfortable with people in general however I feel a certain spark of hospitality from this restaurant.

I love that there are actual candles on the table, I really feel as though I’m pulling out all the stops for a date- without having to pull out said stops which is wonderful. The bathroom is always clean and smell free which is super important for me if I need to regroup socially.

Everyone I’ve taken here has always been impressed and felt welcomed.

I am willing to bet if I were to dine at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant I would NOT be as impressed and certainly not as welcomed as I am at Carmella’s.

This restaurant will permanently have a space in my memory when I’m old.

I really appreciated the great service while dining at Carmella's. They have a very cozy atmosphere, but the lighting could have been a little brighter as it was hard to study the menu. They have a variety of beers and wines, no liquor. The server was very helpful with pairings.
We tried a variety of flavors, starting with the antipasti salad and ending with a delectable chocolate cake. For our entrées we had a Lobster Risotto special and the Veal Saltimbocca. All of their dishes were very well composed. Great flavor balance and presentation.
I look forward to making another reservation (which are highly recommended, but can only be made by phone during their open dining hours).

This was our first visit; we decided to try something new, and it seemed promising based on the reviews. The atmosphere was good. The service was great! Our waiter was super friendly and helpful. The food was decent, but nothing super special. They were really good about pointing out their vegetarian and vegan options. Our daughter has the fettuccine alfredo (no peas or chicken), and she was pretty happy with it. My wife got the ravioli, which she said was just okay. I got rigatoni made vegan, which was pretty decent. They have a really good selection of wines; I got a Champagne, which was pretty good. Overall, it was decent-to-good food, but pricey. It would be nice to see some slightly more flavorful vegan options.

Part of a group of 9 in March 2024. Only $$$ wine or beer ---no cocktails!! Salad extra for $12-$19 with a $26-$35 dinner. Bread/rolls not served with meal. One dinner, same as one other order, not served until much later only after calling it to servers attention. As a token of delay a 'complimentary' "very small "bowl" of soup was offered for the wait! Last night our family of 3 went out for dinner because we remembered this place being so good. However, we were left very disappointed. I ordered Halibut, which was so dry I had to keep washing it down with water, and the risotto that came with- was overcooked. My husband's pasta dish was ok, but had big chunks of raw garlic - which was not very pleasing. And to top it off we both were sick after a few hours of eating there in the middle of the night and through today. Thankfully my toddler had something light and she wasn't affected by it. I will cross this restaurant OFF my list.

I was misled in believing that this was a nice family run Italian bistro. Although it is only in a mini mall, this was a pretty upscale place with MORE than upscale pricing. So, don't be misled and enter there in very casual clothing like we mistakenly did because the staff will look down at you. We only ordered dessert, the Creme Brulee, which I think they purposely burned the top on for us as we didn't fit their mold of a customer. And before we even ordered, I seen the host/manager talking to the waiter and then looking over at our table. Clearly we were the topic of conversation. This was truly one of the worse experiences I've ever had eating out. We couldn't get out of their fast enough and I will never go back, even with a better outfit on during a date night with my husband!

Not impressed. Italian cuisine, pasta is good, flavors are great.
The wait staff.. ok. What I DON'T understand is why such "FINE" dining is located in a STRIP mall with the DOLLAR store?? Really offsets the ambience. Also, the bread with oil costs extra, excuse me, but, that should be included, as well as a salad, and a charge $ for using a credit card, come on, really? When your paying $$$?Not very inviting or classy. You also should consider a dress code. I've been to many fine restaurants, you are NOT. I will not reccomend nor will I be back.

A perry little restaurant with quality food. They charge you for table bread which is odd but... it is locally sourced and very tasty. Food is expensive but you get resonable portions. Wine selection and beer selection is good.

Nice Italian restaurant situated in a strip mall. Plenty of parking, great food, and service. We had a Gouda cheese plate that was very good along with the bread service and two very tasty Italian dishes. No room for desert but they looked awesome.

Being our first time here, I do not think we realized it was a fancier atmosphere with typical reservations taken. Thankfully they had two open seats up at the bar which was perfectly ok with us! And even tho we were not "dressed up nice" we were still treated and served and taken care of without judgement! My fiance knew he wanted the chicken parmesan right away! He also ordered us both a bowl of the tomato bisque...🤤I had a difficult time deciding between two dishes. I asked our bartender/server and he suggested one of the two right away and I was soooo pleased with the pappardelle! The bread Service was so good that we ended up getting two orders of it too! Eating at this beautiful restaurant ( being an Italian girl myself...) This was the best and most authentic tasting Italian food that I have ever had in this area! I have craved this place everyday since going there and can not wait to go back! Next time with a reservation and maybe dressed up a bit more lol.

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday. After reading reviews online, I made a reservation and mentioned it was for my boyfriend’s birthday. When we arrived, the gentleman who was seating (who I also believe took my reservation) wished my boyfriend a “Happy Birthday!” Later at the table out server, Connor, also wished him a “Happy Birthday.” The staff was so incredibly friendly and welcoming! On top of that, the food was unbelievably delicious! We will definitely be returning for all aspects of Carmella’s!

Every time we go there is nothing but top notch service and quality. It's the only place in Appleton that offers high quality Italian cuisine, so reservations are a must especially on weekends. Also love that their sauce is sold at woodmans.

Carmella’s is fantastic! I go here all the time for special occasions and the food is nothing short of superb. The calamari appetizer is fantastic, love the butter sauce. The Saltimboca is my favorite entree, it really is so rich in flavor and tastes a amazing. You can’t go wrong with any dish you get here. They’re all so fantastic!

Update 1/10/23:
Went here when home over the holiday and just WOW. Every time I stop in I’m greeted with the most comforting Italian food. Had the daily special pasta (a pecorino Parmesan sauce) and it was just to die for. Had this paired with the Chicken Saltimbocca , Cesar salad, and a tiramisu dessert. Carmella’s is hands down the best restaurant in Appleton and the prices are very doable for the portions and quality.

Can’t wait to stop back the next time I’m in the Appleton area 🤤

Carmella's is pretty good, 3 stars may be a little harsh and it is mostly based on the Blognese dish. The pasta was overcooked first of all, but the most disappointing part was the sauce, which you would normally expect to be a meat HEAVY sauce. This sauce was particularly tomato heavy, despite flaunting 3 different types of meat in the menu description, which you could barely pick out the tiny shards of meat present. If I was trying this dish with my eyes closed, I would have guessed there was no meat in it at all. Honestly pretty bland overall. I read a similar description in a different review and mirror it. Despite that, the canoli was awesome, wine selection was good. Papardelle was by far the best dish our group had. For Appleton WI, honestly it wasn't bad, but really left some to be desired for the price.

The Bibb & Red Oak salad is one of the best salads I've ever had, Calamari was great, ambiance was excellent and the service was top notch. I thought all of this goodness meant that our main Pasta courses would surely be on point but I was wrong..the noodles came out all cut up and overcooked like it was either someone's first day making Pasta or we got what was left from a big batch, it was a bit off-putting for the price. Like if you go to a Chinese restaurant and the Sesame Chicken is great but they screwed up the rice, how did you get the rest done so well but mess up the easy staple?

Loved the fried fresh mozzarella sticks. My portion of pasta was large enough to have left overs and was just as good reheated as fresh served. I highly recommend this restaurant. But wish lighting was brighter. Definitely will go back.

Lovely experience! We dined on the partially enclosed patio, the servers were extremely pleasant and attentive and the manager was active in making a great dining experience.
Great menu, wonderful combination of flavors and done well.

I will almost certainly plan to stop at this restaurant any time I'm in the area in the future. The bartender was friendly, prompt, and gave me a great wine suggestion. Front of house checked in with guests to make sure everything was correct. The food was absolutely delicious and I really liked the notes on the menu about where the ingredients are sourced and who designed the food/desserts. The only thing I'd change is a full bar - some of my coworkers only drink liquor and a nice dessert cocktail would have been amazing - but I understand that it's possibly a liquor license thing.

was a last minute decision to go here. they said we could sit without a reservation if it would be less than an hour. not a large menu, which is fine. had a large wine menu which I do not care for. some prices have gone up quite a bit, they need to update their online menu prices. only complaints are being brought wrong drinks, which we noticed right away, and when server came back, fixed right away. biggest issue is the chicken parmesan. the amount of noodles for $28 compared to other dishes I saw is disappointing. do spaghetti noodles cost that much now?? maybe for a $1 more could add extra??

One of our favorite restaurant however not good last night sorry to say. Pasta was hard and my filet was covered with a sauce that I could not even see what it is. We all had to take our flashlights out to see the menu card. People next to us as well. Pricing high glass of wine $13.

The food is pretty great, very umami and the service matches it. I've been here so many times though, graduations, birthdays, etc. I feel like they should have features and limited time specials to spice up their menu. I stopped wanting to go because they just have the same items, all the time. I need some variety! But still check it out if you like food and their tiramisu is delicious.

Went there for dinner with some coworkers. The food was okay. The prices were very high and the portions didn't reflect those prices. We all loved the warm bread with oil and balsamic. The entrees fell a little flat. A few mushrooms were terribly chewy. The desserts were wonderful and shouldn't be missed.

Recently traveled to WI from the East Coast for a Golf weekend at Whistling Straits. Heard about Carmella’s so my friend and I decided to drive an hour and 20 minutes north seeking out some good Italian food. Was definitely worth the trip! The food was fantastic… from presentation to portion to taste. Loved the history about two sisters bringing their childhood experiences from their NY upbringing in their grandparents restaurant to opening this wonderful jewel in the Midwest. Had a chance to meet one of the owners and their passion certainly permeates throughout their entire staff. Unfortunately, this is not the “ norm” today which is why we were so impressed with our overall experience. at Carmella’s. Congratulations to the Defranza Family and their entire staff for getting it right!! Wish we had a Carmella’s back in Connecticut.

Good food- better than most Italian restaurants around this area. Portions are generous and our server- Bradley- was amazing!! Prices are not cheap but I believe you get what you pay for with food.
They charge for the bread now which is fine with prices going up but they should give you butter for it as well as the olive oil/vinegar. House salad was good but not worth $10. Tiramisu is delicious!
Would like a better drink list- not everyone drinks beer or wine, but that’s likely a liquor license thing.
Will definitely eat here again.

I am relatively new in town, and was taking a cruise and looking for a small bite or a sandwich. I was unfamiliar with this restaurant and thought it was a deli until I walked in the door. I decided to eat anyway and I was in for a treat. This was some of the best italian food I have had in Wisconsin. The portion sizes were reasonable, the food a great mix of traditional and contemporary, and the cost was reasonable for the quality. Their lemon bar was probably the best dessert I have had in the last few years. Great experience and will be dining again with them soon.
