We stayed around the corner at the Birchwood, and the staff highly recommended Carroll House. They were right. On a Sunday morning when the more "Touristy" places had a 90-minute wait for a table for two, Carrol House got us in with no wait. I'm informed the potato pancakes were excellent, and I had a half order of the cherry stuff waffles, with a side of hash browns. The only thing better than the food was the service. (And the fact that 90% of the customers appeared to be locals and not tourists like me)

To be fair, we did not express our complaints to the staff. The restaurant was very warm and tables were close together. My adult daughter and I ordered scrambled eggs, hash browns and waffles. Both the eggs and hashbrowns were not fresh. They might have been premade They had crusty edges like being scooped out of a warmer tray. The hash browns were dry and stale. The waffles were strange tasting, a little too sour. Wish we could give a good review but I would not recommend trying this place.

This is a nice little place but the quality isn't as stated on the positive reviews. You pay $2.75 for door county cherries on your waffle and it's just a tiny bit of cherries. The pancakes taste like a box mix, and theres nothing about the waffles that could make them "famous" as claimed. They aren't crisp on the outside nor fluffy on the inside. The syrup tastes like it's from WalMart.

Staff members are very nice and the food didn't take too long to come out. This restaurant is somewhat disappointing for Door County, especially Sister Bay where the amenities are generally the best available in the county.

If you're looking for a quick bite to eat this place is decent but don't come here expecting high quality food. The upside is you can eat for about $10-20

We were so excited to come here as we typically do on our door county trips but unfortunately had a terrible experience.
We waited for a table (which was fine), got seated and then waited almost 45 min for our food. People around us, who ordered after us, were getting their food before us. People waiting outside for a table, would get a table, order food and then receive their food before us. Waitress never came back.
It was unbelievable.
We waited and waited with 2 small (hungry) children....
Finally got our food. Waitress never acknowledged the wait, gave a reason or an apology (it was pretty obvious she forgot to put our order in with the kitchen).
Food was just ok. So disappointing. We will definitely think twice about returning.

Really solid "greasy spooon" food. Chicken Fried steak and bacon were crisp, scrambled eggs were good. Pancakes had a good portion of the kids requested toppings. And my wife's Charizo hash was good, had a nice chipotle crema but wasnt too spicy. Definitely not anything fancy, but simple done well has great value too. Waiter didn't talk much or make eye contact really, but was polite still and certainly on top getting what we wanted. Overall a good experience. Don't do it. We stopped here based on recommendations from Reddit and we were excited to stop here! But we regret it. It is a greasy spoon and true to its' "no-frills" breakfast, which was pulled us in initially. We had their "famous" waffles - it was soggy. Their hashbrowns seemed like leftovers because they were super hard and not in a crispy way. We had their coffee - which was decent until my partner found something in their cup. it was a glob of paper or something similar, possible from the coffee filter or something. The eggs were fine - can't mess up a over easy egg really. We had a waiter who seemed very busy and focused on the regulars over everyone else. We got there at 7AM and it was quiet, by 730AM it was busy and he needed a second waitress or waiter and could not keep up. Anyways, go to White Gull Inn!

My family and I stumbled upon this place for brunch and absolutely loved it! The service was friendly and helpful. Our food came out quicker than expected. We came here after hearing the wait at Al Johnson’s was 1.5 - 2 hours. I wish we had made this our first stop to begin with!

Our party of 13 was sat in a reasonable amount of time without a reservation. Coffee cups were always full.

The Door County Cherry Stuffed French Toast was excellent - although admittedly, I added walnuts to mine and only got a half order.

The veggie croissant has an excellent flavor, was flaky, and perfectly cooked.

The cinnamon roll had a hard outer layer, but an amazing warm, well-flavored interior & top.

Others at the table had Chilaquiles, side order of hot salsa, breakfast burrito, corned beef hash, egg & cheese English muffin, etc. all menu items were enjoyed (with the exception of the hard exterior of the cinnamon roll).

The service was the “icing on top” AND we were able to easily split checks! Phenomenal all-around with top-notch food and service.

We chose the Carol House restaurant as a back up because the place with the goats on the roof had a 95 minute wait.

It was a mixed bag experience. First of all, the serving staff are what is keeping this place afloat. They are quick, friendly, and attentive. Overall, five star service.

The dining room is tiny and cramped, with tables elbowed up next to each other. It is also very loud. We had to raise our voices most of the time to just hear each other across the small table.

Unfortunately, the food isn’t that great. I was stunned that an vegetable omelette could be almost completely devoid of flavor. The same was true for the Eggs Benedict. Shockingly, it was the most flavorless hollandaise sauce we’ve ever experienced. And, the hashbrowns were burnt to a crisp. My son’s pancakes were devoured quickly, and they were generous with the chocolate chips.

The best thing we could say about the food is that it was edible. There are some hits and some misses, and this felt like a miss on our vacation.

Last time we ate here, a diner ordered a fabulous-looking German potato pancake. So we came here again and we ordered eggs and one potato pancake each as a side. What we got looked nothing like what I had seen and what has been pictured on their Facebook page. In fact, the “potato pancake” was nothing more than a small plate of hash browns with a side of sour cream. For $4.50 each! No effort was made to correct this nor were we ever offered coffee warmups. It wasn’t that busy so I’m dumbfounded at the slow service, lack of attention to customer needs and especially at being duped with a very expensive plate of hash browns. If the kitchen staff and servers can’t tell a German potato pancake from hash browns, it’s time for us to dine elsewhere.

We walked in with 7 people about 80 minutes before they closed at 2pm. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. We were out within 40 minutes and stuffed with delicious food. Walking in, it smelled of aged body odor. The employees looked shellshocked and overwhelmed. The service was good, attentive, but not welcoming in any way - purely transactional. The menu is somewhat confusing for a breakfast diner. Most everything is ala carte. I ordered a $9 skillet, but adding 2 eggs cost me $4 and no breakfast meats came with it. The food arrived hot, but it was remarkably dry - even the eggs. The peppers and onions were barely cooked and the cheese sprinkle was so sparse it could have been the cook's dandruff. I got two slices of dry toast and only one container of strawberry jam. The $5 waffle was good, indeed the best tasting item we ate, but it certainly wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the meal. Save your money and go elsewhere. There are so many awesome restaurants in Door County but this one will need to get competitive to survive. One last thing, that BO smell clung to my clothes for the rest of the day.

Decent little local breakfast joint, but nothing to sing about. Called to ask if their "famous" waffles came with maple syrup and was told yes. I asked again, is it real maple syrup, or is it the sugar water stuff, and again I was told yes, maple syrup and butter. When we got there, I asked the server, and he said it was "maple blend" syrup, whatever that is. It was not maple syrup, and for $5/waffle, I expect maple syrup. Otherwise, the food was good for a breakfast place. Service was terrible. The server checked on us just once, and then he disappeared when it was time to get the check. We had to go up front and ask for it.

Very customer friendly restaurant. Excellent service and very good quality food. Our House Burgers were very flavorful and cooked just right and the fresh cut potato chips were very good. Very good prices and good parking.

Al's had a long wait and we were on a time-line. The dining room was full, but they got us in outside on the patio. The food was delicious and came out quick and correct. Staff is friendly.

The food was delicious - we had the patty melt with the house made chips, and chipotle chicken bacon wrap with cheese curds. They’re dog friendly too!

We had eggs benedict,veggie omelet and cherry stuffed waffles. Everything was fresh and delicious. Service was excellent. Definitely recommend this place!

Can't recommend this place over Al's enough! Walk in anytime and seat yourself with NO wait. Served immediately with amazing staff and food comes quickly, and is incredible! Prices also extremely reasonable. Seriously save yourself from a massive headache and hassle and come here instead of Al's
