We stopped at Cathay Garden Restaurant on our return trip from Tennessee. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. For example, my husband’s request for less hot spice in his Kung Pao Chicken was granted and his meal was perfect. The portions were generous and the food fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone living in or passing through the Portage, Wisconsin area..

I’ve been ordering from this place for years. I’ve never had a bad meal or experience. Honestly, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They seem to really care about the food and the restaurant. My personal favorite is the Pork Fried Rice with extra pork! You have to pay for the privilege but it’s worth it. I’ve had their Sesame Chicken, General Sao’s Chicken, Pork with vegetables and Pepper Steak. They have excellent Egg Rolls and really tasty Pan Fried dumplings/potstickers. The prices are reasonable and they give you a lot of portions. You’ll have leftovers! I hope they never leave Portage because it wouldn’t be the same without them.

Me and my girlfriend and her cousin decided to come eat here and my food not only did not taste that great but it was undercooked. The chicken was fine, but my vegetables were crunchy on top of that. They messed up my girlfriend‘s order and as soon as we walked into the entrance, the front door smells, I also found some hair next to my silverware, which is not a big deal, but if there was hair on my silverware, there could been hair in my food as well. I would come and eat here again if they would change how they cook and make sure the restaurant is clean I don’t know if it was the front door that made it bad or the whole restaurant. Also hairnets is not a bad idea either.

They have sizzling rice chicken. It's a rare dish to find. This was the second place I've found that dish on the menu.. in my entire 42 years of Chinese food establishments. It was decent except the guy didn't put any sizzling rice patties down... Like those are like the ingredient that the dish is named for. I did inquire and the guy lied and told me it was underneath already? Like wow, shady. Also the waitresses was having an opinion that we ordered too many entree's. She dropped an entree and then tried to argue that it was too much. I tell her yes we know how much we are ordering and had to check her 3 times on it. Very annoying indeed.

Such an authentic place, their food and service is amazing and worth the price, we go at least once a month if not 2 times. Just ask and they make anything out of shrimp. Like the General TSO Chicken, if you want shrimp instead they'll make you General TSO Shirmp it's the best. They always use fresh ingredients and have always been friendly. First, I have to thank the staff members for finding my gold bracelet and returning it to me. I dropped it during lunch, and they were really sweet and helpful and helped me get it back. Not everyone would do this, and I just want to say I really appreciate their honesty and trustworthiness. Second (and perhaps more importantly) the food was divine. It was the best lemon chicken I've ever had (I preferred it over the orange, but the orange was still very good) and the Crab Rangoon were the perfect balance of crispy and flavorful. I highly recommend this place to anyone who happens by in the area. It's truly a hidden gem. :) !!

We've been customers for about 4 years now. Over the years we've seen the quality slowly decline. The last time we ordered food from here my husband got a piece of METAL in his food, looked to be a piece of steel wool. We called and they offered to replace it for free the next time we came in. Okay- great! Well about a week later I called to have them replace the meal, and ordered some additional food as well. When I went to pick up my food, she tried to charge me for the "free meal". I explained to her that it was supposed to be free, and explained what had happened previously. She tossed the old receipt, and begrudgingly hand wrote out a new one, only I could clearly see she was overcharging me, for my additional meal as well as the sides. I pointed this out to her, and she said that the menu available online wasn't accurate. Okay...sure..so I asked to see the menu to take home. She quickly explained that THAT one wasn't accurate either. So finally, i went to the front where the menu is displayed for all the customers...she was CLEARLY OVERCHARGING ME. Again, I've been going here for years, and never noticed the price change. She apologized profusely and handed the difference back to me.

Aside from them stealing from their loyal customers, the food has been terrible as of late. The sesame chicken I always get is clearly of poorer quality, and is at least a week old as well. Extremely mushy and disgusting. I will never be going back.

CHECK YOUR FOOD FOR METAL AND WASTE AND CHECK YOUR BILL! THESE PEOPLE ARE THEIVES.

Sometimes there is a communication problem. Had to pay for drink I didn't want. Not offered water. Egg drop soup was very good and hot. Egg roll overdone. I like my rice better with herbs and/or a little more flavor. But okay. Pepper steak had very little meat, tomatoes (2pc) and onions (5pc). Mostly LG pieces of green peppers. Close to Vegan meal.

Was not impressed when I received the bill and was charged almost 30% more than the menu price. When I asked why I was charged so much the reply to me was that she only charged me an extra $2 for Togo order, oh oh oh old prices.. not to mention the order of fried rice was half the size it used to be, and the happy family portion was only 2/3 of what it was before. As far as the food quality it was excellent. I just feel it's not rite to cut the portion size and raise the price by 30%

We have used Cathay's for years. Great Food!!! Since COVID, their Egg Drop Soup has turned a reddish color (instead of the deep yellow) and the flavor is now much more bland. Even some if their main dishes have become more bland - not the robust flavors as before. We have chatted with the owners and they are aware but unsure the reasons for the changes we have experienced. The cool thing is that we will have to keep trying their entrées.

This was my fiance first time here. I was with my step daughter and fiance. We had egg drop soup it was good but she was not used to it being orange in color. Fried rice was not the best but the rest of the food was amazing will be coming back here again in the near future. I have not been in here for awhile..love the new decor! I ordered a lunch special by phone at 130pm. I was told lunch was until 230pm. I had plenty of time. I went to grab a menu by the register and was told the prices were the old ones in the booklet and that their prices went up. Location and environment.
A nice location in downtown portage but blink and you will miss it in the streams of store. There is a big sign to welcome you in through. Plenty of street parking and around the side. It was a clean fresh looking place.
Service and atmosphere.
The service was fast and friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere was quite no one there on a monday night, the place seems peaceful with lots of decorations and water fountains.
Food and drink.
The food was very tasty and egg rolls were the best i have ever had!! Some stuff didn't look handmade but good. Could do with possibly adding more drinks like alcohol. Basic sodas and water.
Overall, a nice local spot for some tasty authentic Chinese. Make sure to check it out when you get chance at stopping by.

My family always likes this restaurant. We go about once a month or so. Food is typically clean, meaning fresh ingredients.
