I had a great experience at The Charcoal Grill in Oak Brook! The food was delicious. I had a burger and it was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. What really made the visit stand out was my server, Taylor. She was amazing, so sweet, attentive, and made sure I had everything I needed the entire time. Great service and great food. Went there about 6 pm didn't appear to be busy had 2 adults 2 middle schoolers took about a hour to get our food! My daughter never got her soup until she asked because the waitress forgot and "said someone must have took it" the also said it seemed watered down it was chicken dumpling her roasted veggies were cold. I got a Southwest wrap the chicken was cold she gave me tator tots and they were supposed to be onion strings which were cold also. My granddaughter got the kids cheeseburger and tots which was not hot and my grandson got the cheese pizza and waffle fries which wasn't hot either. Asked if we needed anything else then only va.e to give a refill on chocolate milk for him and had to wait again for the bill and containers! Positively not worth the $71 I spent there!!

I wish we could say that the food tasted as good as the environment smelled. And sure, when you walk in, it smells amazing, like wood burning, charcoal steaks. But then the food really lets you down. These new cheese bites are toasty, but they have like a slime element inside. And I wasn't even sure they were safe to eat after the first one. The pretzel came with half a cup of cheese and an insane amount of honey mustard. And you may love honey mustard, but maybe even it out a little. And the cheese was nothing special. It was white people's stadium cheese. The fried chicken sandwich was definitely just a sysco piece of chicken. Nothing special. The pizza is definitely not what it used to be. If it is wood fired, it is pre-made. Possibly, again, what is with the sliminess? The fish on a Friday, my mom said was, meh, okay, nothing special. It's too bad, because it's a really cute restaurant. But it is definitely not what it used to be 15 years ago. And I understand that things change, but you still need to be concerned about your food quality and taste.

My husband and I had a delightful afternoon at Charcoal Grill on Monday 6/9. We arrived around 2:45. Joyce greeted us with a very pleasant smile. We always sit at the bar so we made our way over there where we saw Joyce again. She was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered drinks and an appetizer which was bacon wrapped water chestnuts.(They could have been hotter but were good.) I walked around to check the place out. It was very clean and presented a modern decor. We had a chance to chat with Joyce a bit as it wasn't busy during that time. She was a delight. Our entres, a burger and a salad were prepared well and very tasty. Our first time there will not be our last. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you Joyce.

Ordered buffalo burger bleu cheese bacon and bbq sauce gf bun. Other person ordered buffalo burger with Swiss and SP fries. No bleu cheese available. So I change it to just American cheese and 1000 island. Food comes and my bun is regular and other if gf and dry as a bone crumbling. Also they just took off the bacon snd I could see bacon imprints in the cheese. Waitress disappeared forever. Had another server grab her. Explained the issues and she asked if I wanted a new burger on a gf bun? No, I just want to watch everyone else eat. 🙄So then new burger come on gf bun. The bun is frozen in the middle. I tell the waitress and she laughs it off. No discounts, no comps, nothing. No manager checking in. Then I order burger to go with SP fries. Guess what?! No fries and the burger sucked. I wish I could say I had a great time at this local brunch spot, but unfortunately, I didn’t. For a $20 buffet, the food selection was sparse, and much of it seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. Even the omelette ingredients didn’t feel fresh. The pancakes, French toast, and waffles were soggy from sitting in warmers, and overall, it felt like my party just picked at the food rather than fully enjoying it. I’ve honestly had better experiences at hotel breakfast bars. That said, the staff was very kind and accommodating, which is the only reason this review isn’t one star.

The bartender and the waitress were phenomenal and the atmosphere was perfect. Unfortunately our food was not. We ordered the hot dog kids meal and the hot dog came cold. We didn’t think much of it as our toddler ate it anyways. We also ordered the chicken tender kids meal and took some home. When we went to reheat was was left we noticed the chicken was not cooked in the middle at all as seen in the pic attached. Thankfully we caught it and didn’t let our daughter eat it. Our waffle fries were also uncooked in the middle and the onion strings were just crumbles and crumbs. Barely any strings whatsoever. We would love to give it another chance but we are somewhat leary.

I waited about 10 minutes at the front counter to pick up an order and no one even acknowledged or said, “sorry it’ll be a moment.” I finally went over to the bar to get assistance and after waiting around for another 5-10 minutes, they come out with my order. We have been patrons of Charcoal Grill Oak Creek for 3 years. Recently, the manager for the Sunday brunch as well as a female manager told us that we could bring our beloved greyhounds to dine on the patio. We did so on Wednesday night and it was fantastic. We wanted to do so again today, and we have an old senior greyhound who is 14.5 years old. We were publicly humiliated by the General Manager Joe as he pointed his finger and degraded me in front of the entire bar that how dare I bring my dogs here. They are filled with germs and against Oak Creek health code to have outside (several Oak Creek restaurants serve people with dogs outside). He asked where their service dog vests were, and then started interrogating me about his manager on Wednesday and how awful it was that we were served. He said that if we wanted to eat there, he could seat us on the back patio by the dumpsters due to the dog germs.

We left feeling horrible and our old senior greyhound kept pressing his face against the door to the patio and then sulked back to the car. He was very upset, so we drove to another establishment that is happy to serve us.

I would love to have the opportunity to speak with Joe’s manager and to have this made right. I have never been so humiliated in a restaurant in my life.

Generally fine food, but not so great service. It was very empty because we went between lunch and dinner. We had Ashley Z who brought our food and said, “I’m having them make new tots, I made them make you new tots because the ones they wanted to serve you were absolutely disgusting.” Could’ve lived without knowing that. Had to ask for refills, remind her of other small stuff requested, no check back before handing us the check (while still eating), no ask about dessert or if we needed anything else, no pre-bussing, and she made us sit with our card out to pay for way way too long. We were promptly seated on a Sunday afternoon, a little past 4. There were just a few customers inside, pretty quiet.
After our host took us to our table, we waited a good 10 minutes before our server came by. She apologized after asking whether we were being helped by anyone. She was very nice about it, but I did wonder, since it looked like she was the only server working at the time, so who else would be helping us?
It was fine though, since we weren't in any kind of a hurry and overall enjoying one another's company.

In case you're wondering, it's a plastic cup, not a glass. Hubby said the drink itself was ok. Whether I can keep the cup or not, though, I don't like to drink alcohol out of a glass glass, so I'd rather just get the drink in a glass cup that I don't get to keep.

Chopped Cobb with Petit Fillet - $20
The 5 oz fillet was pretty good and cooked to a perfect medium, though they could have eased up on the salt a bit. The veggies weren't the most fresh I've seen, some wilted, and some with brown spots.The avocado tasted funny. I don't know how to explain it, but it felt more rubbery (?) than I'm used to, and had a tangy flavor.
Overall, disappointed for a $20 salad. (I've found a local restaurant that makes a mean steak salad for $14, with an absolutely heaping mound of fresh greens. I don't like to compare, but I couldn't help but do so)

Ribs were OK, and the onion fries were also tasty. Great price! Four pieces are not enough for a grown man, but perfect for me.

There is a sign at the front desk: "we impose a surcharge on credit cards that is not greater than our cost of acceptance."
There is another one that says "We impose a surcharge of 3% on the transaction amount on credit card products which is not greater than our cost of acceptance."

Lingo sounds very legal, but basically means they will charge you 3% for using a credit card. Pretty cheap for a restaurant of this size if you ask me.

Got violently ill after eating their Walleye dinner. One of the pieces tasted off, but I figured it was just a really fishy piece. Took only 3 hours to be projectile vomiting all over the place. Knew that it was food poisoning because that's all it took to feel better. Fries that came with the fish were soggy and cold (which is a shame because I always liked the fries here). Veggies with rotisserie chicken used to be very good (at least fresh veggies), but this time the green beans were obviously from a can and the carrots/cauliflower/broccoli was just the bottom of the $1 bag of California blend. It's all symptoms of the lack of care back in the kitchen.
Waitress never came by to check up on us and the first time she did was AFTER we were done eating. We've been coming here for 5 years and I'm sad to say that I will never be back. The food prices have doubled in that time and the quality has gone down hill. Have fun paying $20 for severe food poisoning.

First time I went there Friday July 14. I went with a large group of my family. When we first walked in the hostess Brenda was absolutely rude and wanted to sit us a 2 4 seated tables and not let us combine tables. Then didn't want to sit us at a table large enough to accommodate us. She refused to give us her name as she was asked twice for it. Finally sat and our waiter was spacey. He was ok but not good. We asked to speak to manager about hostess and he basically brushed us off as we were in the wrong for wanting 7 family members to sit together. Just awful. Maybe an off day but not what we expected at all. My dry chicken sandwich was inedible. Our nachos were burnt with very little cheese. We addressed our concerns with our server and he just said, “we’re all having a bad day, man”….. we expect better and will spend our money elsewhere. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Very very slow service. It wasn't busy either, 8-9 tables total at 6:00 on a Thursday night. Took 20+ minutes to get drinks, another 15 before we could order. Overall a disappointing experience.

Although the family and I love Charcoal Grill and have been loyal customers since the day their location in Hales Corners opened, we will no longer enjoy eating at their establishment. I have to say I am sadly disappointed in the fact that they’ve chosen to add a surcharge for credit card usage. While I understand that it’s a challenge for restaurants today to remain in business, we have become a cashless society and it should have built in the charges associated with credit card usage by CG clientele into their business model. The fact that they’ve chosen not to inform the customers of this upcharge until the bill is presented AFTER the order has been placed is also unacceptable since if the customer does not have cash on them, they are stuck paying the surcharge with no recourse. I truly am sorry they have decided to take this stance as I will miss eating there.

Their chicken dumpling soup is amazing! The husband normally gets the ribs with half stack onion strings with spicy ranch. Depending on the cook they don't always remove the membrane on the back of the rib which has a tendency to make it tough.

I thought I would stop in for a Saturday lunch, Upon entering I was viewed by at least 3 servers and the 2 cooks no one bothered to come to the front to seat me finally when a young Lady came up her greeting was "how can I help you", not a welcome or how many for lunch today... just felt like a, your bothering me how can I help you greeting, And the constant excuses we are under staffed as the excuse for poor customer service. You're not understaffed no one cared to greet a customer coming through the door...

A hamburger was a little too pink, a chicken sandwich was a bit overcooked, and a chicken wrap was very good, but it wasn't wrapped tightly enough because some ingredients liked to pop out of the tortilla, making it messy to eat. We enjoyed our dinner. Loved the Burger Fixins bar!!!

Charcoal Grill is one of my favorite places to eat at state fair, so I was excited when this place opened in Oak Creek. Unfortunately, the management of this restaurant is simply terrible. We've visited a few times since they opened. The first time I went with the family, I ordered their half chicken meal, one of their staple dishes. After 40 minutes and no food, we were told that they were out of chicken. I feel like that would be the kind of thing that would be obvious a lot sooner than 40 minutes after I ordered. I switched to ribs which were eventually delivered but none too warm. They made the kids meals free at my request. The next time I visited was a year or two later to see Pat McCurdy play, otherwise I wouldn't bother after the first fiasco. I again ordered the half chicken dinner. This time they had it, but it was the weirdest pale zombie chicken I've ever seen from a restaurant. The meat tasted okay, but the skin was soft and pale and wrinkled, which isn't really what you expect from the "Charcoal Grill". It looked like it had been cooked in a microwave. Avoid.

This was my first visit. I ordered the Taco Salad. I was so disappointed. It was a chicken salad in a Taco bowl. It did not have the Taco flavor whatsoever. Great service. Pleasant waitress. Not sure if I will go back.

Will never come back. Was told there would be an hour wait for ribs after already paying for them. Wasted a second hour because they got the order wrong, twice. The place was nearly empty, but the staff acted like I was cutting off a limb simply trying to get my missing food. I had to show them their own menu because they argued with me that I was wrong. Terrible disorganization and cold food. I'm guessing they weren't happy about that because my family had bad food poisoning the next day.

You can tell right away there's a management issue. Cooks, not sure wat to say about them, maybe have some pride. We usually will not go out for the same reasons we dealt with here, wife was throwing up all night, don't remember the last time she's done that. This for sure stops us from going out in the future. I take more care and pride in my cooking to be wasting time with people not caring. Was only drinking water at first, wen he refills my water I was going to ask for a drink from the bar. He never refilled, but asked my wife to refill her drink, one glass of water with my meal. Only a few other patrons were there, as it was only 4:30, not busy....food quality is like fast food but would've been happier at McDonald's

We stopped by earlier. Our server Julie E was really nice and made sure everything was okay. The only thing wrong was my waffle fries were not good. They were hard as a rock. They came out warm not hot n got cold really fast. My chicken was really good and moist. They had chicken dumplings soup was good too. Cobb salad didn't include chicken so we paid $4.00 more.
Julie did offer me fresh waffle fries to take home n I said no. She offered me a dessert to go n that I took.

Food was delicious, service was ok except for the fact that an employee chased my party out to parking lot stating that they were unhappy with the tip. I then decided to call management the next morning and he started that the employee didn't work there. Offered half off 1 lousy burger for compensation. I will NOT return, very sad .

Food is good and they have great specials but they are suffering from staffing shortages so if you don't get here early, you'll have to wait an hour or so for a table. Workers are friendly and you get pretty good service once you're seated, but they can only do so much with limited staff.

I took my new girlfriend here for our first real date. Her steak came charred and black on the outside and was basically raw in the middle. I ordered the walleye and one of my pieces of fish was raw as well. I didn't want to cause a scene on our first date so I kept quite but afterwards we both agreed the food was horrible. I want my money back.

The service has always been good in our experience. We eat here occasionally for an inexpensive, hearty BBQ chicken dinner, including baked potatoes with firm, salted crust, sauteed veggies, & beer flights.
