Dinner was absolutely wonderful. The scallion pancakes, jap chae, and Mongolian beef were all excellent. Our server Stephen was the man. He was so sweet and kind, give him a raise. Highly recommend; go for the food, stay for the Stephen.

This place is not Korean BBQ. It is Korean BBQ adjacent, but it is not KBBQ. This is a restaurant for diners that have never had real KBBQ.

When we asked our waiter about the lack of grills at the tables we were told that this isn’t “like Benihana.” This should have been our big billowing red flag to leave, but we remained hopeful that the food would make up for the lack of authenticity.

We ordered 4 entrees: beef galbi, pork galbi, braised pork belly, and grilled pork ssam. All 4 were brought out, with bowls rice, at the same time. There was no attempt to pace the dishes — just everything everywhere all at once.

The beef galbi was, as a beef dish, fine. It did not quite taste like galbi, but it was fairly tasty as a meal of food.

The pork galbi was the only food highlight. It was juicy, flavorful, and, inexplicably, did taste like authentic galbi.

The braised pork belly was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor.

The lowlight was the pork ssam. It was dry, overly salty, and lacked flavor. It was also served with romaine lettuce, which is ok, but there are many better lettuce options for ssam, not to mention perilla leaves.

There also was no banchan served with any of the dishes.

The cocktails were well made and the beers were nice and cold.

The venue is decorated very nicely, and, overall there was a good atmosphere.

If I had never eaten authentic KBBQ, I likely would have scored this restaurant higher, but knowing what the experience is meant to look like and taste like, I have to say that we were disappointed.

Was asked if we had dietary, restrictions, I said yes my fiancé is gluten free because of disease. We the order 2 meals that are both labeled gf on the menu, but the both come out with wheat ramen noodles, wheat dumplings, and wheat fish cakes, when we said something to the server, the chef themselves said it wasn't gluten free and we were not offered for it to be remade or refunded. When you dealing with people with diseases, you need to learn to put actual care and respect into your service. Dont label your items and ask about restrictions when you dont do anything about it. Definitely not coming back.

Char'd was such a let down. My girlfriend ordered a menu item that was described to have "seafood broth" and instead of communicating to us that they were out of this, she was served beef broth. This was her first time eating beef in about a decade. When we brought this to the server's attention, he said "let me check to see if there is beef in this" in a voice that sounded like he already knew there was. He stalled in the kitchen for a few minutes before coming back out, saying yes it was beef, this entire time, I'm staring at beef chunks. He then asked if we wanted to order something else instead, we did, and they had the gall to charge us for the replacement. Hardly apologetic about the entire ordeal. I mean what sort of restaurant just adds chunks of beef in a menu item that did not have it listed before.
Also worth noting, the place was near empty throughout all of this.

Why are you taking orders online if you’re closed?! I just did a pickup order online and went to go grab it and the place is closed. There’s no one at the door. They are not answering the phone? Ridiculous.

Edit 1 - Since the owner of this establishment is completely unprofessional. Doesn’t know how to respond to customers. And is a Liar. Here are the screenshots of my card being charged and the email confirmation of the order being placed with Chard MKE.

Please Check the timestamps. From when I placed the order, to when I was charged, to when I went to go pick up the order (it was supposed to be ready by 7:34) and to when I called after I pulled up and the place was closed.

What you should’ve done is apologized. Acknowledged some kind of misunderstanding and agreed to issue an immediate refund. Maybe I would’ve taken down this review. Embarrassing.

Get lost lol. This is how you run a business?

Edit 2 - I had a feeling the owner would delete their response so I made sure to screenshot that too.

Edit 3 - accepted or confirmed? - Why does it say Chard order confirmation at the top of the email? Why did google show you were open from 4:30-9 pm (with takeout orders stopping at 8pm)? Why did I order on your website and they confirmed the order and gave a time stamp of 7:34 for pickup? Why would I drive out to pick up food if the restaurant didn’t confirm the order? private forum? Like when I called and no one answered? Or when I emailed and there was no reply? Like that?

The lack of accountability. Wow

wish I could give less than 1 Star.

called an order in for pick up since the online order system was "opened for orders" but not working. we called in at 4:45 to pick up the order for 6:45. we arrived at 6:40 and were told 10 more mins. this 10 more mins theme occurred for the next hour. finally around 8pm the hostess said that we might not get our food because the kitchen is "crashing and burning" and "many guests in the restaurant "are still waiting for their food".

This is a shame because the first time we went to Char'd years ago, it was GREAT. however, everything about Char'd has gotten worse over the past few years. this will be our last time trying to eat here.

Nice place with nice people but overall experience was terrible. By the time my meal arrived, other table mates were done and was too hot to eat for at least 10 more minutes. Ordered $23 gikoba crispy tofu but there was zero crisp, no veggies (not described but still expected), no peanuts, and so much sauce. Also had two $12 palomas but did not taste or feel any alcohol. I will not be back.

A year ago, I would have given this restaurant 5 stars, but in the last 6 months, some of the options, that was insanely good were cut from the menu.

This place was really vegan friendly but after the cut the togarashi fries, cauliflower dish and mushroom entree, there's not much to choose from.

I hope you bring them back!!

Regardless, the staff is always nice, the restaurant classy and clean ❤️

Update: I went there the other day and WOW. They have changed so much. They don’t have the dessert anymore, which was honestly why I would always go! Their beef bulgogi was insanely different. I was in shock to say the least. It literally was just cooked meat. I am so sad this place has changed their menu (their waitress told us the food has changed). It truly is not the same. This used to be my top 5 now it’s not even on the list. I added a photo of what the beef bulgogi looks like now (last photo)!. Not even remotely the same.

Past review: 5/5 on everything.

Absolutely loved the food. It’s my first time trying Korean food and wow oh wow. So many flavors, you’ll feel great. Big thank you to the chefs, it was amazing. Also GET THE DESSERT! (Thank me later ;) )

The service is awful - your experience will not be any different than all of the other reviews that say the exact same thing.

Our group of six waited forty minutes to order our food in spite of our best efforts to get the server to stop by.

Over the course of a two hour period, the server brought a single drink and forgot time and time again to bring over a refill. After three reminder requests for the same drink, we ended up just cancelling the ordered drinks.

Do not go. Do not “try it out”. Do not waste your time.

Made this reservation on a whim, we wanted to try something new. We had an event to go to two hours after different, thought that would be plenty of time to have a nice dinner. Waited 4-5 minutes before even being helped at the hostess stand, finally sat down & ordered drinks. Those took at least another 10-15 minutes to come. Ordered a dirty martini & I don’t think this place knows that that is. It tasted like vodka with soy sauce, served with PICKLED olives. Saw later on the check it was made with rail vodka (Smirnoff)…. It was disgusting.
Probably took 20 minutes after sitting down to order our food finally.
Then we waited. And waited. And waited.
It was nearly an hour before we got our APPETIZER. A table that sat down next to us got their app at the same time even though they arrived at-least 20-30 minutes after us.
We ordered more drinks, after being empty for 20(?) minutes. Those never came. Our food finally came after an hour, we were splitting a main dish. Barely enough for one, but it was a $30 dish. It was fairly good food but not worth the price. Still haven’t gotten our drinks at this point, we were cutting it close on time because everything took so long. Waiter kept saying the put the drinks in ( it was two glasses of wine, easy order) but they just never came. So we got the bill. Waited another 10-15 minutes for him to come back to take it, never did. So we finally went to the bar, which was EMPTY, and they were finally pouring our wine??? So we told them we were cancelling those because we needed to GO and we were relatively annoyed at this point. Bill was $70 for mid food and terrible service. We will not be back. If you go here I suggest planning to spend your whole evening here.

I made a reservation for Char’d because we had an event 2 hours after dinner. The kimchi was wonderful our apps, edemame and dumplings 10/10! Thankfully we put our apps in early. By the time the server returned after dropping off the apps, we had been in house an hour, waited another hour for our food to come our only for our server to say he “didn’t see the ticket on the line”. At this point it’s 2 hours since we’ve been there had to request our waters to be filled multiple times, no explanation for lack of or slow service. Extremely disappointed when our food came out with 10 min for us to enjoy before leaving for our event without any sort of reimbursement or apology. Unfortunately I won’t be returning because of the service. Which is a bummer because there’s more on the menu I’d like to try!

Menu changes cut out some of my group’s favorites so much so that we almost didn’t know what to get. It’s also sad that the food portions were reduced but still priced the same. Walking in, it smelled like piss. We should've walked right out. The appetizer was delicious. Our first drinks were lovely. The entree was disgusting, and the soju we paid a lot for was gin. They tried arguing it wasn't. We are from Houston and have been to enough soju bars to know the difference. The waitress was very sweet and took the meal off of our ticket. It was inedible. The rice burnt. And just fat all over the meat. But this place isn't authentic in any way. AVOID.

A very unique experience. I am compelled to withhold a star solely due to the service, which does not quite meet the high standard set by the cuisine itself. The culinary offerings in this restaurant are a delightful contribution to Milwaukee’s food scene, presenting a modern twist on traditional Korean dishes. While the menu may be limited, the drinks are truly a taste! I specially recommend their ginger and honey tea, and they galaxy lemonade.

However, the service detracts somewhat from the restaurant’s luster, primarily due to a staff composed of Gen Zs who don't really care for providing service and are frankly RUDE. This disconnect between the quality of the food and the level of service is notable and an area ripe for improvement. To give you some perspective, we did a walk-in once and there was a graduation on the art school nearby. They didn't have reservations from the school or its members, yet they posted in the door they were not accepting walk-in unless you sit in the bar. The place was completely empty and it was raining. When we asked the staff they rudely said "we do this in anticipation of the folks graduating from the school. It our prerogative if we want to serve you ". Later they removed the sign and it turn out the staff was using it to reduce flow to the restaurant to take a break. Or at least that what we heard someone say, so mind for accuracy on my relay of this.

I don’t care about your vendor issues your cheating us, it’s so shady to lie like that and then when I call you out on it you get an attitude. We've been to Char'd several times and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. However, it seems that things have started to go downhill. We ordered the leeky chicken and KFC wings as our appetizers. The leeky chicken was delicious. The KFC wings are normally one of our favorite appetizers and we've had them many times, but what we were served on this occasion didn't look right. Normally this dish consists of six wings of about the same size with a mixture of flats and drumettes. What came to our table was two chicken legs (way bigger) and two of the saddest and smallest flats we've ever seen, which had also been French cut so we weren't getting that much meat, for a total of FOUR. We asked for our server, Daphne, to come over because the food wasn't acceptable. She acted like we were crazy and it was normal, but we've been there enough that we know it's not. Don't lie to your customers! She finally told us they had a different supplier. That's still only 4 wings for $15 when the menu says 6, and they're not actually wings. Chicken legs are a different cut than wings. We only ate the KFC wings because Daphne wouldn't let us send them back, and only discounted them. I very politely told her we'd like the check and the wings were unacceptable. It took her forever to get the check... You could tell she just didn't want to deal with any kind of confrontation and wasn't willing to fix anything for us. We weren't mean or rude or yelling, she just didn't want to fix it. Train Daphne better so she knows what tools she has to fix things for your customers when something like this happens, and don't skimp your customers and try to tell them it's the same thing! If you need to start selling chicken legs instead or reduce the number, then change it on the menu or sell by weight instead. This was a very disappointing experience after having been there so many times in the past, and it will be a very long time before we are back (if at all). I'm not giving my money to a business who tries to lie to my face when something is wrong.

I got the bibimbap with tofu. Tofu was crisp on the outside just wish there was more of it. The rice was charred on the bottom as they served it in a cast iron dish. The rice in places was burned however so mixed feelings on that. The cauliflower appetizer was delicious just wish they had charred it a bit like they did with the shishito peppers on top. The sauce was delicious. The plum soju really was not drinkable. The plum Collins was good but wasn't strong enough and there wasn't much in the glass. The leaky chicken appetizer was delicious seemed like it was lightly fried on the outside as were the leek strips. Overall food is solid. Service was ridiculously slow and it was hard to get the servers attention when we needed it. However, she did help clean up a couple of spills which was much appreciated and she was in good spirits in general. If you want authentic Korean food then I would not recommend this establishment. The service, presentation and atmosphere is exceptional, but the food was disappointing. I ordered the pork belly and my partner ordered the bibimbap. Both were flavorless. The bibimbap was overcooked and made most of the rice crunchy rather than soft. The pork belly had zero flavor and over the top chewy. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you care for decent Korean food, however if you enjoy Americanized versions then be my guest.

This restaurant is extremely disappointing. Firstly, the portion sizes are ridiculously small. Despite ordering five dishes for three people, we left feeling hungry. To make matters worse, we endured an excruciatingly slow dining experience, lasting over two and a half hours. The lack of efficiency was apparent from the moment we walked in - with no one to seat us, we stood around for a good ten minutes before being acknowledged. The service was abysmal; the lone waiter seemed indifferent, carelessly tossing plates onto our table without so much as a glance our way. To add insult to injury, we were automatically charged a 25% gratuity fee at the end, despite the appalling service. In summary, the service was atrocious, the attitude was appalling, and the food was far from satisfying.

My family and I came here recently for dinner. My Dad made a reservation for 6 and was asked go give his credit card number and they informed him that if we canceled within 24 hours they would charge him $150. That might be acceptable if this was a Michelin star restaurant, but that is unheard of. Our table ordered a number of appetizers and entrées, but the only item everyone seemed to be impressed by was the shishito cauliflower. One of us ordered the galbi, and the beef short ribs were cooked medium rare, which the menu does not specify and the server didn't ask for a preference. I was not pleased that they do not offer a kids menu, it makes the restaurant very unwelcoming to young families. Their website advertises the place as an "interactive dining experience" but the experience for us was the same as any other restaurant: You look at a menu, order food and drinks, they are served, you eat, you pay and leave. I wasn't expecting to be over the moon about my vegetarian dish, but I was expecting the beef entrees to be exceptional based on the reviews and upscale presentation. I'm certain the food is quality. Would likely have left a more positive review had they offered a couple of kids meals and not threatened to charge us if we couldn't make it in that day.

Would recommend this place if you are in the market for good Korean food in an elevated setting. Food came out hot and fresh and had great flavor, our server took good care of us and prices seemed reasonable for the quality of the food and atmosphere! Highlights include the sweet and spicy dumplings, beef bimbimbap and beef bulgogi 🍲🍛🥟

The food is absolutely delicious! We enjoyed every dish that we got. Everything tastes fresh and seasoned well. The service was very slow, we waited almost an hour for our main course to come, but the waitress was really nice and offered us a free round of drinks as a result. Great atmosphere. As a protip, soju is half off on Sundays!

On a Sunday afternoon, two companions and I came to Char'd to find the hostess/ bartender, server, and bus person to be the same person. It was evident to us that patience was desired. The upper level was nearly filled to capacity, so it was sure to be a long wait for whatever we ordered. People were genuinely happy as we were, too. The one person managed her way through to meet all of our needs. Unfortunately, restaurants, stores, and businesses are still experiencing a lack of loyal employees, but kudos to the friendly, consistent, and professional woman who handled it all on February 18, 2024. Your attitude and attention made our experience amazing. We enjoyed the braised belly, which was preceded by dumplings and scallion pancakes. Korean food is delicious. Char'd is staying on my list of faves.

I really like to come here, but I’m not sure if I will return. The service and time to get our food was extremely slow. We came about an hour and a half before closing and didn’t get our food until the restaurant had closed. As a service worker myself I understand that getting rushed can be quite a handful but even when we were the last few tables my server was still nowhere to be found. I had to get up twice and ask for simple things such as silverware or napkins that should have been provided. Honestly disappointing as I really enjoy this place.

I’m guessing they forgot to staff for NYE? It was full but no busy and we had the worst service I’ve had in a long time at a restaurant. We were here for two ours only had o a drink because the servers never came back. When we finally got food it about an hour and half after ordering. We tried to go to the bar to order a drink and the tender told us it was closed, then when walking out the same bartender was there clearly with friends making drinking and having a great time. It’s really too bad because we really enjoy CHAR’D but that was probably our last visit here.

Never waited an hour at a restaurant where the waiters weren't slow. We were starving and our stomachs hurt, and the funniest part was that he charged for the service (twenty percent). We were charged 90 knives for three dishes, the stone pot bibimbap we ordered was basically burnt, and basically the meat was the same in every dish, so I don't know why it takes them so long to make the food.

Outstanding food and service. Enjoyed our meal with a carafe to share of Ginger Soju which was delightful. The dumpling appetizer was perfection. I wish I could eat them every day. The sauce!!! Yumm. Both entrees came out shortly after our server brought dishes of romaine, rice and small trio of toppings and sauces for each of us. The meat and vegetables were perfect temp and the flavors were 10 out of 10. During the meal though I did think how this could be more shareable, and with perilla or shiso leaves instead of romaine with typical banchan, because it would be easier to eat and enjoy with your date or family but maybe I just need to keep looking for the place that offers that. We still tried eachothers dishes and my boyfriend ate more vegetables than me and that's definitely a first. I will definitely be back as soon as I can! I hope to try the whole menu!

Avoid if you have food allergies. This place has been hyped for years, I was excited to get in and try it. We had a very basic, average experience - from service to food. Our table was also right by the hall to the restroom so we were on the human highway (and we did have a reservation). I was highly disappointed at how limited the menu become due to my gluten allergy. A restaurant of this caliber, today, usually has a handful of options. Shame on me for not exploring the menu online first. Here I could order just a couple items and the only protein available that was gluten free was tofu. Other food allergies had even less choices. My wife and adult daughter thought their food was mid too.

We came here on September 15th.
It was our first experience at this type of resturant, the food was great but the staff seemed either unexperienced or under equipped or both. There were people before us who got their food as we were leaving. We waited 20mims for someone to come around and take our order, she was amazing and friendly.
We were sat near the host stand, the staff seems to be unfamiliar with the program they were using, we could hear them rushing around questioning who has what tables and why certain tables haven't gotten drinks yet.

When our food came out it was so hot, too hot to enjoy at first and I burned my self on the plate.

The food it's self was delicious as well cooked once it cooled down enough to comfortably eat it.

We might come back on a night when we aren't rushing to get to an event after so we can enjoy our dinner.

I really wanted to like it more than I did. My son suggested it as it’s near his office and he’s enjoyed lunch there. We came in on a Sunday night that really didn’t look busy, but they assured us they were. They were good enough to seat us and take an appetizer order…then we waited.

Took about an hour to get our meals, and they were ok. EVERYTHING was very sweet, but seemed well prepared.

For what we paid it was a disappointment. I can’t see returning.

I’m a HUGE Korean food person. Anytime we can try somewhere new, I’m all about it. We’ve only gotten take out here a few times and the food has been nothing but phenomenal. The braised pork belly is some of thee best I’ve ever had! I’m also a huge fan of their dumplings. We decided to order ahead this past Sunday and actually sit at the bar and wait for the food. We had never had their drinks and really wanted to try them. Sadly, what could have been a five star review was ruined by the bartender that was working that night. We told her we were waiting for our take out order, but would like to sit down for drinks. Not for a moment was she friendly. We had to ask for drink menus. After this, she never asked if we needed anything or wanted to order. She was very unapproachable and seemed very flustered. She was also far more interested in whatever conversation she was having on her phone. This was all exasperated by our food being over 20 minutes late for pick up. This place is totally worthy of 5 stars but the service was pretty disappointing.

The food itself was good but a bit overpriced. The service on the other hand was pretty bad. Our server came to our table a total of about 4 times. We had to go find her after she left us sitting with our waters for 20 minutes and again when we wanted to pay to leave. The other 2 times were to ask what we wanted to drink and to bring out the food. During our time there we saw 3 other tables get sat and served their drinks and appetizers before we had to find our server to take our orders. (We'd been there for about 20 minutes at that point and had only been served water and all three of those parties were sat after we were) Aside from all of that , the sharing plates we received prior to ordering any food were dirty and we did not receive any replacements. I would not touch this place with a 100 foot pole. The only time I'd ever go back would be if it were for a business meeting.

Maybe it was just my order but I've never had such salty bulgogi and japchae in my life. My whole party noticed it after I pointed it out, only 2 didn't seem to mind but my friend and I that did mind are both in the restaurant industry and we just kept making glances at each other trying to figure out what could've went wrong with our dishes. Maybe the prep wasn't done properly? I just think the chefs should taste their food more often before sending it out.
Other than the salty taste in the japchae, it was VERY close to my favorite japchae from a restaurant back in Chicago which I did like.
Ambience and impression of the restaurant is really nice. I really like the decorations!
Waitresses were nice, they gave enough attention that we prefer; not too much and not too little, since we came at a slow time (early dinner).

I am disappointed at the service and lack of empathy or compassion from the server.

I placed the order on DoorDash at 6:50 PM. I received a prompt text, confirming that chard had received my order and it was in progress of being prepared. I was notified that my delivery would arrive between 830 and 8:50 PM according to DoorDash the Dasher was at the restaurant at 8:20 PM at 8:25. I receive a text canceling my order.

When I properly called the restaurant to confirm my order delivery, I was informed that the kitchen have been closed 45 minutes ago. I’m not pleased with the lack of service to the restaurant. If it was close, it should’ve been announced in a timely manner, and the nonchalant attitude of the individual answering the phone is unacceptable. I guess it’s OK to lose business these days who needs customers?
