⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)
Called last minute for an 8 PM reservation—grateful to get in. Arrived early and told to wait at the bar despite open tables. Bartender was curt and disengaged; a little friendliness would’ve gone a long way. Once seated, we waited 25 + minutes before anyone came by—had to flag a server. Food was good (the green beans with shallots and walnuts were excellent), but portions were small for the price. The waitress who finally helped us was kind, but overall service was poor to adequate. Great flavors, weak hospitality

This review is largely based on our experience in the restaurant. If it was based on the bar, it wouldn't be nearly as positive. Our waitress was great. Our food came quickly and was quite tasty. The dining room has a warm vibe but is very loud. I guess I understand what people like about this place but I can't say I'll go back. Our first impression started in the bar and had we not had dinner reservations, that's probably where it would have ended.

It was a good place for a family dinner. It's just getting way over priced for what you get. But that's every where you go now days. When your paying over $50.00/ person for a steak it better be amazing.

So impressed with this restaurant! Employees were all friendly and welcoming, our Server, Morgan, was attentive and very accommodating. We had a chance to meet Chef Rene, he treated us like we were longtime friends! Chef's Father is a Sweetheart! Had us laughing!
We dined on Beef Stroganoff, Scallops Pernod, and Shrimp Alfredo. All 3 dishes were Fantastic.
The Fontinella and Spinach soup (special) was out of this world!
Thank you Chef Rene and your Staff! We will come back on our next trip Up North!

Would love to have eaten here but was treated rather rudely because we did not have a reservation even though there were many open tables, and she refused to accommodate us at all. I will likely never return because of that.

It rare that we disagree so strongly about a place. The front door was littered with cigarette butts, a bucket and broom and a bad smell. We went early to get a drink at the bar and were greeted by a grumpy bartender who was counting his drawer. We felt like we were interrupting him when he turned the sound up on the sports talk show. The place smelled musty and looked dirty. We could see they were still setting up for dinner. This was not what we were expecting for fine dining but didn’t decide to leave until my husband came back from the bathroom which was filthy.

We recently went to Chef Renee’s for a special anniversary dinner and were disappointed. None of us had dined with them before, but were so excited to try the restaurant. They could benefit from a lesson in customer service!! From making the reservation to paying the bill the hostess was VERY rude! We will not be returning and would suggest you give other restaurants your business. For the price, the food was very average. We did have a delicious old fashioned to start our meal, which sadly was the best part of our experience at Chef Renee’s. In a word…disappointing😒

I have to give it up for Chef Renee's. The Server said one of the specials was Duck Confit. I am in, duck one of my favorites. Served with a blueberry chutney, The duck cooked absolutely perfectly.Lettuce/kale greens and wild rice. This plate was the best thing I've ever tasted. By the way my wife's dish of fresh made garden pasta with large scallops was top notch as well. Great job Chef and staff! Chefs father makes and hands out finger puppets. Awesome

Great dinner at Chef Rene’s tonight to celebrate Ted’s 70th birthday! It started with a glass of wine at the bar listening to a husband/wife duo from Brownsville, TX! Super entertaining and great musicians. Then onto dinner.
Homer, Chef Rene’s 95 yo father was a hit. He smiled and greeted our table with these cute Iranian finger puppets!
Ted had a beautiful filet and lobster. I had the special which was Seafood Chippolo. It was packed with bountiful lobster, crab, scallops, and shrimp.
Then they came out and sang Happy Birthday!
We will be back!
I hope and pray that chippolo will be on their menu again. We’ve been across the LA, MS and Fl coast and nothing was near
as delicious!

Chef René has serious cooking skill. Every dish we had hit the mark. We were blown away by his Beef Wellington which was perfectly cooked. And who outside of the Midwest would guess that Northern Wisconsin has the best seafood, but the lobster Newberg and seafood crepe here will convince you of that. Very very good food here. My only critique would be to expand the wine list to add some stuff deserving of this caliber of food.

This happened on junteenth. I had to beg my fiance to come to this restaurant with me. She's black and very shy about going out here. I assured her this was a nice restaurant with nice people. I've had very nice meals here. Our waitress was very short with us and treated us differently than her other customers. She rushed us through and even took our plates without asking if we were done. The food wasn't good and by far the worst meal I've had there. My fiancé's pasta was stuck together in one big clump and there was something off about the chicken. I ended up taking her to subway afterwards. I would sure like to know who was cooking. All the entrees coming out for the other tables looked good. She's worried about being poisoned and so am I. Are yall a bunch of racist or what? This was the first time in my life I didn't tip. Never coming back. 90$ for a meal that was awful and a passive aggressive waitress.

The food was very good. I have no doubt this is a fine place to go just for dinner, however, I had a terrible experience for my wedding rehearsal dinner. My mom called them to reserve the banquet room about 6 weeks ahead of time. About a week before the event, they called my mom to change the reservation time because “they were getting a lot of reservations.” We obliged and got there as quickly as we could after the wedding rehearsal. We only had one waitress for a party of 24. Instead of taking our drink orders, we were told to go to the bar if we wanted anything other than water. There was no music playing overhead which made it a bit awkward. We were asked to narrow our dinner choices down to 3 choices ahead of time, which we did, but instead of individually asking each person what they wanted, the waitress had us raise our hands for steak, lamb, or fish. One of the families was running late, and the waitress got in their face the second they sat down demanding they decide what they wanted to eat immediately because apparently the chef was pressuring her for our orders. She was very visibly frazzled and sighed very loudly whenever we asked for something mildly inconvenient. Lastly, our orders were not all correct. There were too many orders of fish and not enough of steak that came out. Overall, I am extremely embarrassed that this was the opener to my wedding weekend. This was the most unprofessional experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

I have always been reluctant to go somewhere that is pricey, because I have always been left disappointed and wishing I had just gone somewhere more simple and inexpensive.
That was far from the case here.
I came in here with my in-laws for mother's day, and between all of us, I was privileged to sample the duck, the beef tips, the korean bbq ribs, and the shrimp and scallop Alfredo.
Everything was amazing.

Went for dinner for the second time. Had an amazing experience the 1st time. Second time my chicken was completely raw in the center. When I told them that after I was charged for it they told me too bad I should have had my server re-make it for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s usually great food. But the arrogance of the hostess and managerial staff after they clearly messed up was unfathomable. My husband and I enjoy fine dining, and rarely, if ever, leave a bad review. But the way this situation was handled was completely unprofessional and showed a clear lack of respect for good paying customers. It’s sad, they have a great thing going and everyone makes mistakes, but if you make a mistake own it. The management there thinks they are perfect and that’s no way to run a business.

Great place for a little upscale dinner. I thought the dishes were pretty creative and unique, and the flavor of what I ended up ordering, the poached salmon, was awesome. I saved our time to go to Chef Rene's for my birthday. We enjoyed the bar, going out to the river side for a drink before dinner. Had a great appetizer, spinach and artichoke dip. All was great. I ordered scallops with pesto and linguine. It would have been great, but the fresh tomatoes on top were so saturated with thyme and oregano, you no longer could taste the tomatoes, much less the pesto on the linguine. We did take it home. I think with a bit of bouillon, creme, and cheese, I can fix it. My husband had the walleye, and he did enjoy his dish.

Been going there for several years. Food and service always great. However, this August they would not do separate checks. They divided our group into 2 groups but wouldn't at least do 2 tabs. This causes problems when time to pay. Hostess was very rude when we asked for another copy of the bill. I guess tourist trade isn't important.

Had our 1st visit to this fine looking restaurant. Walked through the door no clear markings to the restaurant or bar. Easy find though there was enough clinking of dishes to get us tothe right spot. There was 7 people in the bar. It looked spacious and clean. Went to the restaurant a bit after 5 pm there was about 4 tables that we could see in use. The tables looked good and there was ample tables available. Asked to be seated was informed without a reservation it would be 90 minutes or more. With it being a hour drive home, we opted for another restaurant. It maybe a great place hard to tell. Call for reservations!!!

We went for Mothers Day brunch and it was delicious! Prime rib carving station, many breakfast items including an omelette station! There was also beef fajitas, pulled pork, an asian chicken dish, salad station, salmon and an outstanding dessert table. I am sure i forgot something, my only recommendation would be for some additional steamed vegetables either green beans or mixed steamed veg. There was a lot of protein and I could have gone for more veg. This would not prevent me from returnimg for brunch or the restaurant of course.

I am going to share my husbands experience and we enjoyed his story so much that I thought you should know.
My husband is a pilot, travels a lot and often has to dine alone. Chef Rene was walking around the dining room checking on and talking to customers when he stopped at my husbands table, stopped and asked are you alone this evening? And he was, give me your finger, said Chef Rene, and proceeded to place a the puppet on his finger and he said there, now you’re not alone, enjoy your meal. My husband said the food was delicious.
We have since named the puppet Bugsy, and Bugsy is making his way around the world.
Thank you Chef Rene

We've been there several times. The food has always been good. Sometimes better than others. The only thing that I think needs improvement is the acoustics in the dining room. It's almost impossible to hear people talk at your own table or to hear the waitresses when they tries to explain the specials for the evening.
And it just keeps getting louder with everyone trying carry on a conversation above the rest of the crowd. It just seems to snowball. Very irritating and definitely takes away from the enjoyment of the meal. I would think they could have someone come in and do something about the extreme noise. Not totally sure if I care to go back.

Chef Rene’s is a wonderful Up North Supper Club! They take reservations, waited about 10 minutes at the bar long enough to have a hand muddled old fashioned. Started off with spinach artichoke dip, very good loads of spinach in the dip. The warm bread was delicious. Choice of soup or salad with entree Parmesan Peppercorn salad was very good. The steaks were delicious, full of flavor a little on the rare side but delicious. This is a good stop when you are in the Northwoods.

4 of us went for dinner Friday night. When we asked the waitress what she recommended she said,” anything you like” Then I ordered the Zoodles. It was overpowered with herbs. I took one bite and could not eat it. I told the server it had too many herbs and one that had a funny taste to me. She insisted the only herb they used was basil. I said I love basil and that is not what I am tasting. She said, “ yes it is, that is all we use” the menu clearly states herbs (plural) I gave it back to the server and shared my friends Ribeye with her. When our check came the waitress said, “ I took $10 off your meal because we have served a lot of it tonight and can’t take it off your bill just because you don’t like it” the cost was $30. I said that’s fine.” Then we went to pay at the front register and the lady asked how things were. My husband said, “fine” I said, actually it wasn’t. I told her about my meal and she said, “I’m sorry” my husband took out his credit card and put on counter, it disappeared. He and his daughter were looking for it. Taking out all menus, moving things. The woman behind counter said, “it’s not here” but wasn’t bothering to help us look. And she inferred that my husband did not give it to her. My husbands daughter then went behind the counter and said, “what’s that?” It was his credit card on the floor by her feet. She then said to us, “That was because he flung his credit card” He did not “fling” his credit card. We felt as though there was zero customer service and they were rude. We have a place in Eagle River. This was our first time at the restaurant and we will not return again. It was also extremely loud in there. Not a good experience at all.

I am not sure where the good reviewers ate, because we had an incredibly frustrating experience here. The food was not worth the money or time we spent.
Walking in, there is the distinct smell of some moisture problem, which was off putting to say the least.
When I made reservations the week before, I was met with a big sigh and a tone of voice that made it seem I was asking for something completely out of the ordinary. Okay, maybe she was having a bad day.
We showed up at the time of our reservation, were seated quickly and then proceeded to wait almost a half hour to even put in a drink order. We also had a 20-30 minute wait between every course - and by that I mean after we had eaten a course and the plates were cleared.
The waitress eventually brought out all our meals, save one. My husband's meal arrived a good 20-30 minutes after we'd received our food, with no explanation. I went to check on the missing food about 15 minutes into our wait, and the person at the front was rude and dismissive. Yes Ma'am, I know the food will be out eventually, the problem is 6 of us are almost done eating, and one of us has yet to even receive their food. Feel free to acknowledge that it is incredibly awkward and rude to make someone in a party sit and watch everyone eat (or maybe no one eats and their food get's cold), because it is. No need to pretend it isn't.
We were offered a free dessert, which we unfortunately took them up on because getting a few scoops of ice cream boxed up was another 20-30 minutes.
In all, our dining experience was over 2 hours, which I'd understand if this was a fancy supper club, but it's not. It's a restaurant at a resort where we didn't order anything specially prepared.

The food was fine. The duck was kind of dry. The blackened fish was over seasoned. The lobster appetizer was just odd.

Our server was very nice, but obviously had too many tables or something.

They had me at the green beans. We've been vacationing in the greater Minocqua area for 28 years, yet this was our first visit to Chef Rene's. We will be back. A supper club whose menu is on steroids, their menu has entree selections that everyone can like. The scallops were fresh and perfectly sauteed. The pan fried walleye was as well. Even the salad dressings were fresh and flavorful (perhaps homemade?). The service was very good - no shortage of staff. We went here for my daughter's 16th birthday. She always asks for steak for her birthday dinner. So this time, since 16 is a big deal, we said, "Let's go out for your steak dinner." I couldn't have been more pleased. Starting with making a reservation the day before, Chef Renee answered the phone and he was so nice and funny. Once we got there, the ladies taking care of us were phenomenal and made us feel very relaxed bringing in our young family. Then, to top it off, the lady at the front desk went around and told the whole restaurant and quietly told everyone it was my daughter's birthday and if they could sing along that would be great. She brought out a brownie with ice cream and chocolate syrup with a candle and the whoolleee place sang happy birthday with us. It made her feel so special. I can't thank you guys enough for making her feel so good on her big day! I highly recommend Chef Renee's. They are professional, warm, and welcoming and food is outstanding. We had an amazing meal at Chef Rene's. After having heard from friends it's a great place to go, we were so happy we did! The old-fashioneds were tasty, we had a lobster appetizer that was phenomenal. The cream of mushroom soup and warm bread was a great start to the meal. We ordered the pouches flounder special, the shrimp and scallop entree, the ribeye, and the garlic and blue cheese filet. Everyone loved their meal, and we're looking forward to our next chance to come back! In addition to the fabulous food, our service was friendly and prompt. Highly recommend this gem!

Food was good but not great. Service was good. Atmosphere was good. Parking is abundant. Right off highway. Very clean. Prices are a little stiff for what you get. The stakes were a little tough and they had a real smokey taste. Salad was good. Bread was fantastic. Side dishes were good as well.

Extremely difficult to get a seat here as the last 4 times we have tried we were turned away at the door, but when we call they never answer the phone. (So unable to make reservation) Got in once about 3 years ago and have been unsuccessful since. Lady at the desk is rude about it every time as well

Top Notch! Everything we ordered was delicious! Rich and flavorful sauces compliment the entrées. Chef Rene's is beautifully decorated. It's warm and cozy atmosphere contrast perfectly in winter when there's a fresh blanket of snow ❄️ covering everything
in scenic Eagle River!

Chef Rene is a wizard with veal. The Veal Forester was absolutely marvelous, and my wife had the Salmon Quinoa which was equally amazing. Wonderful setting for a very nice meal in the northwoods, and the staff was courteous, friendly, and attentive. Chef Rene's father was also wandering around the restaurant and added a wonderful touch of humorous friendliness.

We were there for our 37th anniversary, and if we get back up this direction again I can guarantee we will be back.
An amazing dining experience!

Thank you for a wonderful evening!

2 out of our 3 meals were amazing. My scallops were soft and buttery but my linguine was swimming in oil and the pesto/ herbs were very bitter. I had all of our party try it. The waitress apologies. I sent the pasta back. No adjustments were made. Great scallops though.

Tonight, our club enjoyed a wonderful Christmas party at Chef Rene's! The evening started with great cocktails, especially their Brandy Old Fashions. Unfortunately, there was only one bar tender for the group, so obtaining that drink took a while, and a glass of Chardonnay was a bit pricey. Dinner was an exquisitely beautiful buffet, which included the best German cuisine that I have ever tasted...and that is from someone who would normally make this menu my last choice. The rouladen, wiener schnitzel, and red cabbage were especially delicious, along with the spaetzel, mushroom gravy, soft rolls and salad. For dessert, what else but the most delicious apple strudel that I have ever tasted.
The first time that we had dined at the "Eagle River Inn", at least four years ago, and pre-Chef Rene, we had quickly decided that it would be our last dining event there...but good reviews from neighbors over the last 6-8 months had peaked our curiosity. So, when this opportunity came along, we were pleasantly surprised, and more importantly, we will be back!

From the parking lot, chef Renee's dark log exterior and unremarkable signage might inspire a less than enthusiastic "meh". And the heavy Maple log chairs and tables don't exactly scream fine dining. But, this is Cheesehead territory, and we're Flatlanders here for all you can eat fish fry. So we'll ignore those Minor details in favor of gluttony. After all, we are here for the $13.95 all you can eat fish fry. The fish fry is Alaskan pollock. And unlike any fish fry we've ever had, you have a choice of baked or grilled. Or a combination of both. I can say for a fact the fish fry was delicious the french fries were delicious and I would go back for the fish fry alone anytime. But if you go back, be prepared to be stray away from the fish fry by all of the other delicious sounding things on the menu. We started to stray when we ordered the bacon wrapped stuff dates and deep fried stuffed jalapenos with our delicious cocktails. My wife then broke ranks by ordering the Canadian Walleye, broiled, with wild rice and veggies. She wouldn't share, but raved about how good it was. And while I don't doubt for a minute that it was delicious, if I were going to go for something other than the fish fry, there were so many delicious things on that menu that I would go back in a heartbeat! As anyone who's been to the wisconsin-norths knows, the supper clubs don't hold back on their prices. That makes the 1395 All you can eat fish Fry at chef Renee's a remarkable thing, and his menu as a whole is very reasonably priced by comparison. If you're an eagle river. You must go to Chef Rene's, especially on a Friday night.

Food is very good and chef is well known for it. Nice location on the Eagle River chain. However, the service is quite lack luster. Sadly, the northwoods has trouble finding good help. If the front of house was in order, 5/5.

After I got the msg we considered Not going but I thought if the service & food are bad then I'll call BBB. Service was impeccable the waitress was amazing. Food was good wine was great. Turned out to be a good 22nd anniversary dinner. Just the phone guy sucked.
