This place is so cute!! My husband and I first came here 12 years ago on our honeymoon, and loved it, and we have made a point to go back every time we go up to The Door. We were a little disappointed to find out they no longer serve breakfast other than Saturday and Sunday and that’s if you get there before 11AM. So when we got there close to noon and were told they weren’t serving breakfast I was disappointed, mainly because I love their scones, specifically their raspberry white chocolate scone, but after telling my server how much I loved their scones she went back and found one for me. That alone tells you about the service of this place, they go above and beyond for their guests. I ended up getting their Turkey BLT sandwich which was sooo good! Loved the honey mustard it was paired with, made every bite an enjoyment. My husband got a burger that he thought was just “okay”. The soup was also just okay, but that was a personal preference. The service alone makes up for any of the food and the cherry pie was really good! Check out the Chefs Hat!! Great views of the bay, warm cozy atmosphere, top notch service! You won’t be disappointed!

Once upon a time, had a good breakfast experience in the past and wanted to go again. This time the server didn't listen well to my ordering and was verbally rude when I asked for specific things or asked questions. The food wasn't that great this time. Won't ever go back here again. There are other much better places we enjoyed in Door County with much better service.

Honestly if I could give this experience a 0 I would. Stopped here to eat for lunch about 1 month ago. Informed the server I was gluten free. Ordered apps and then our meals. When receiving my meal they had normal bread on the side of my plate. Informed the serve and he took his bare hands and started picking off the pieces on the side and said he would bring back gluten free bread. After being totally grossed out that he had his hands in my salad noticed that I had very moldy raspberries as well in it. When he came back with the right bread, I informed him of the raspberries. He then again put his bare hands into my salad picking off the raspberries and told me he would get new ones. After this I had just asked for completely new salad. No apology or any type of compensation. My husband then ordered a coffee to go as we were driving back home. Didn’t offer to even put the coffee on the house. I was so upset that we had not even received an apology from our server to now stick his hands into my food but seemly pretty careless about me being gluten free as well. I called after and the manager was very nice and apologetic. Stated he would send something in the mail for this and the server should know better. Now we are a month later and I have followed up twice now and have received nothing. After being told twice now that something was coming and another time that I would be called back. I do not recommend coming here as our bill was $100 for a more than terrible experience. I never write reviews and tried to be extremely patient with staff. This is very poor costumer service and if you are gluten free please be aware of this.

Go Here! And bring your dog! Seating will bring outside if you want your dog to join you and the staff and patrons are so sweet to them!

Mine was given his very own bowl of water and of course, I shared my brisket sandwich with him.

There's a very nice menu, and it has a lot of variety. The staff is over the top amazing! They gave me some nice suggestions about where to go next and take in the sites.

The food preparation was on point, and everything was scrumptious. I actually cleaned up my whole plate, which is a rare occurrence. Parking is a little tight, especially if you have a truck, but it's doable if you scan the block a few times and you'll find a place.

Overall, a very, very, very good experience, and absolutely will return.

Dropped in for lunch and had an amazing lunch. We searched for restaurants with plant based options and found this spot and they totally lived up to the description.

I ordered the Veggie Wrap and my wife had then Asparagus Quesadilla. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and the food showed up pretty quickly.

Mu Veggie Wrap came wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla and was full of fresh veggies mixed greens, artichokes, red onion, tomato, shiitake, crimini, & oyster, red bell peppers, broccoli with fresh guacamole &
creamy dill dressing. The guacamole and dill dressing gave it a really nice flavor.

My wife was happy with her Asparagus Quesadilla, it was full of flame roasted peppers, onions, tomatoes, asparagus, corn, black beans,
wild rice, farmers cheese & spinach. It came with salsa & sour cream and she add guacamole.

The server was very polite and service was quick. The restaurant sits on the shores of Ephraim harbor, perfect location for a meal or drinks.

You should go here. The food we had was great and the view of the lake is really nice. We had 1/2 sandwiches (lunch option only)with tomato bisque soup. It was outstanding and it came with a slice of pie, with a home made crust, which was also great. The only ding I give them is that they overheated my pie and it was too hot to eat until it cooled off. They should have asked if I wanted it heated in the first place. Still, I would definitely go back.

I had an awful experience at this cafe. We waited over an hour to be seated, which would have been tolerable if the staff had been more professional. Instead, the hosts were rude and dismissive, acting like we were inconveniencing them every time we asked for an update on our table.

When we were finally seated, the manager wasn’t any better—completely unbothered by the poor service we received. On top of all that, the food was outrageously overpriced. The portions were small, and the quality didn’t justify the steep prices at all.

I definitely won’t be coming back, and I don’t recommend it to anyone.

The menu looked pretty fun and the herb roasted salmon caught my eye. I was excited to try it and was ultimately left feeling neutral for a few reasons. The portion wasn't the best and the vegetables it was served on weren't great. I did like the greenbeans however. For being as pricey as it was, it left me desiring more. My girlfriends Alfredo was way more satisfying than my dish for almost half the price so take that as you will. Our server was very sweet but I don't see myself coming back here next time I am visiting door county. You pay too much for the sadly small portions. "Cherry margarita was great" - girlfriend

Wow. My teenager could do better. Yes, if you enjoy (literally) rock hard chunks in your waffle its at best it's OK. I definately could have cracked my tooth. I sent that back and received another waffle that was TINY for $9. This one had pieces of green on it with some meat chunk or something on it. Either snot or broccoli piece. I talked to a manager about it and was "greeted" with a demeaning attitude like I was stupid. He flipped the waffle with his finger and said I was looking at brown from the griddle, and there was no green. I literally picked it up to show him up close and he said it's probably just pesto. Now how do other chunks of food get on a waffle? Are plates not washed and it's residual from the person's meal before me? Absolutely disgusting. I didn't even finish the second waffle. Then to top it off, the waffle didn't even melt my butter halfway. My husband's meal was barely warm and literally bland food. For what is charged and what you get is not worth it. I will not come back.
Now if I had this problem, a strict vegetarian or severely allergic person would be the least happy about the attentiveness of cross contamination also.

We have eaten here many times in past years and this year was a major disappointment. The portion sizes on take out dinners was small and on our soup order the container was only filled a 1/3 of the container and when I came back in to question the amount; I was told a cup is one ladle full and I asked if this was a normal ladle size or a baby ladle size and the individuals snippy response was what we received was a ladle and that is what you got. Also, as previously mentioned, for the price of their dinners, portions were very small compared to other top notch restaurants in DC. We WILL NOT RETURN!

We went to Chefs Hat for breakfast and the experience was disappointing. After waiting 30 min to be seated (which wasn’t bad, it was a busy day) we were shown to our table and given breakfast menus. We sat at our table for 25 min and no server helped us. Finally we went to the desk to ask and the greeter said he would get someone right over and took our breakfast menus as it was now lunch. So we waited about an hour and still no food and now can’t have breakfast? We left and won’t return.

We have been enjoying Chefs Hat for many years on all of our trips to Door County! On our most recent trip, this past weekend, we were surprised to find out that they offer breakfast! This place is pure culinary excellence! They take healthy food and make it so delicious, you walk away feeling like you ate something truly decadent but also ready for a long hike, because no stomach bloat…ha! Their fruit smoothies are a true treat and they have amazing gluten free options for those that need it! Never have I seen such a dysfunctional approach to running a restaurant.
Breakfast (including on the weekend) ends at 11AM. Ok, fair enough.
We (two) arrived around 11:30 AM on 6/16, 45-1hr. wait for a table. When we were called for our table, the hostess states "would you like to wait here (entryway) or at the table?
Wait, what?
I was talking to someone, so didn't want to get into a Q&A with the hostess.
I responded quickly, "If our table is ready, we'll be seated"
After seated, we were told by the waitress we have to wait 20 mins to order lunch. Again, what?
I am guessing they must transition their kitchen and can't start taking lunch orders until the remaining Breakfast orders are out of the kitchen.
After I saw a larger group (seated after us) orders being taken, I had enough. We walked out.
The communication issues also exist with the foreign employees.
Why won't they look to limit their menu so that they could handle breakfast, lunch or brunch without all the seating and ordering dysfunction.
These issues never existed in the past with Chef's Hat.

It’s was underwhelming. Eggs were ordered over easy and came over hard. We sent them back. 3-egg scramble is more like two eggs and a bit of potato. French toast was made with wheat bread which isn’t great. Had to ask for our server a couple of times. What should have been a quick breakfast turned into an hour and half due to waiting times for waiter and food, even after being sat immediately. FYI, table next to us also had to send their eggs back.

We will not be coming back for seconds. Service was good!

So we tried a new place and had a great time, right near Wilson's Ice Cream.
Appetizer - we shared the flat bread pizza with brisket an pesto, which was amazing. I could have eaten 3 myself.
Dinner - An awesome burger topped with bacon and brisket and homemade potatoe salad
My wife had a strawberry chicken salad salad which was also good with a large portion.
The evening was fine! Chef's Hat is a small place with a view of Ephraim Bay. Excellent service, water glass always full! The owner/chef also checked in on us.
I will be back and will recommend it. It's kind of a romantic because you can actually quietly talk to each other. Big dessert menu. I got cherry pie to go.

Located right in downtown Ephraim, this was an easy walk from our hotel. There was a short wait at 6:00 for a table, so we had a drink at the (small) bar - wine for me and gin for my husband. Here's where we learned something. They do advertise a full bar, but their alcohol is less than 17%, so it actually qualifies as a "wine." Who knew there was such a thing! My husband said it was okay (what he really said it was like kissing your sister!); my Pinot Grigio was very nice. I had the fish tacos for dinner - delish. He had a brisket with mashed potatoes, also really good. No desert for us that night! Service was fast. Would definitely return there.

We were there this past weekend for dinner, and ordered the Tomato Basil flatbread, the first time they brought it, it was all burnt. We requested it to be re-made, this time, very first bite and there was a piece of hard plastic which almost felt like it broke a tooth, we informed our waitress and she was a bit lackluster about, said a very apathetic sorry and said she will inform the kitchen, we said we are not going to eat the flatbread, do not need another replacement and asked the manager to be informed and her response was 'the manager is also in the kitchen'. She returned and said what she can do is not charge us for the flatbread, very unprofessional, we were not expecting anything more but were also not going to pay for the flatbread anyways. We finished the other food we had ordered, paid, and left. The manager did not even care to come out and talk to us. Hoping that no plastic was ingested from that one bite which may cause any internal issues.
They definitely do not care, as they may feel that, we are tourists and probably not going to come back anyways.
Never going to visit again and not recommended.

I stumbled across this restaurant by accident, but my dinner was so fantastic that I believe it may have been “divinely inspired.” The wait staff was warm and welcoming. I had the “crab stuffed shrimp and boursin cheese stuffed peppadew” for an appetizer. To say it was divine would be an understatement. It was one of those rare and delightful seafood dishes where you could both appreciate the texture, and savor each unique taste and zest that went into this dish within moments. The peppadew served as a wonderfully bold and robust contrast to the perfectly stuffed shrimp.

And then came the “vegetable alfredo.” What sold me on ordering this dish was the variety of three different mushrooms included (shiitake, crimini, and oyster). My goodness, they contributed to the robust, slightly earthy (in the best possible way), and subtly creamy taste and texture. To put it simply- it was everything I always wanted in an American-style Alfredo, but never experienced.

To conclude: this is a James Beard award caliber restaurant. The dishes are both visually and tastefully sensational. My idea of heaven is eating here again and again for all eternity.

Some of the best food I had during my stay. A nice setting that overlooks the harbor. The owner and staff were very friendly and made good suggestions for local tourist activities as well as great background on the town. I will definitely come back!

Food just OK. Ordered the beef and Arugula SW Beef was dry and really tough. My partner had the pasta. That was aright- but definitely nothing special- and it could have been with some more herbs, etc! The waitstaff was excellent- friendly and fun.

Our best meal in our week in Door County. Interesting food and excellent presentation. We went early and had no wait in July. We sat inside but outdoor seating looked welcoming as well. We walked from here to the weekly music at the gazebo. Definitely worth a trip!

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful breakfast at The Chef's Hat, a hidden gem in town that left me truly impressed. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by the warm and inviting ambiance, which set the tone for a memorable dining experience.

One of the highlights of my visit was the exceptional service provided by our lovely waitress, Emily. Her genuine smile and attentive nature made me feel like a valued guest throughout my entire meal. Emily's knowledge of the menu was commendable, as she effortlessly guided me through the various breakfast options, providing insightful recommendations and answering all my questions with enthusiasm.

As for the food itself, The Chef's Hat certainly lives up to its name. The menu boasted a delectable assortment of breakfast dishes, each prepared with remarkable skill and attention to detail. I opted for their French toast, and it was a true masterpiece.

The cozy and elegant atmosphere of the restaurant, combined with Emily's attentive service and the exceptional culinary offerings, created a breakfast experience that exceeded my expectations. The attention to detail and passion for their craft showcased by the talented chefs at The Chef's Hat is truly commendable.

I wholeheartedly recommend visiting The Chef's Hat for breakfast, and I highly suggest asking for Emily as your waitress. Her genuine warmth and dedication to ensuring a memorable dining experience will make your visit all the more special. Prepare yourself for a morning of culinary bliss, where every bite and every interaction leaves you with a smile on your face.

The Chef's Hat, with Emily as your guide, is undoubtedly a breakfast haven worth visiting time and time again.

We were given a choice of indoor or outdoor seating- we chose indoor, but when we arrived 3 minutes later, we were met by the the surly host who informed us we weren’t fast enough and he had given our table away. He loudly argued with us, was obnoxious and continued to berate us. The meal was overpriced and just “meh”. The salt and pepper shakers were filthy and had not been wiped off for quite a while- maybe the miserable host could help clean the place up. We won’t be back and I’ll make sure to spread the the word.

First time here my overall experience was the place is kinda expensive for what you are getting. I don’t think the portions are worth the price. The food wasn’t anything to overly brag about. We waited a long time for our app and was told it’s cause there is only one oven. Waited longer for our drinks, mixed drinks had very little alcohol in them. Service was alright. Overall experience was just mediocre

We had dinner here on both nights that we were in Door County. With my wife's dietary restrictions (gluten-free and vegetarian), we basically took a stroll through Ephraim looking at menus and talking to the managers if needed. I think this is one of the best places for someone with those restrictions. The owner comes out and talks to the customers.
The beer selections were good, although they were out of two of the three beers on tap. Desserts are awesome as well. The portion sizes on the entrees are not too big (appropriate for one person). The food definitely had a fresh, made from scratch feel to it and the ingredients were high quality.
The location and ambience are excellent. We watched the most amazing sunset a 2-minute walk from this restaurant. Their outside seating is positioned such that you could probably get a great sunset view right from your table.

I ate here yesterday. The staff were all friendly and the service was good but the food was not seasoned well and was overpriced for the preparation and portion size. The restaurant was clean but not charming like many of the other restaurants in the area. Also, we found that their were 2 tips on the bill which was not pointed out to us and could lead to billing problems so look out for that.

This is my FAVORITE place to eat in all of Door County! We've been visiting Door County for the past 5 summers and this is always a must-stop for us for breakfast. Last year we went two days in a row because it's just that good! Highly recommend the avocado toast, fresh over-easy eggs, and breakfast potatoes. Also LOVE their specialty coffee drinks. Can't wait to visit again this summer :)

We went here based on a recommendation from information at our hotel. My wife had noticed it driving back and forth through Ephraim in past years and had mentioned this time around she would like to maybe go there. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. We were given a seat by the window so we could see the lake and the breakers that were going on because it was such a windy day. I don't think our order had even been in before it was at the table, bought to us by our host who would also cooked it and was our waiter! We both ordered the meat lovers breakfast and it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend you get the chocolate-filled croissant option with your breakfast, as it was so warm and gooey and yummy. This is not a fault with the restaurant at all but a note for you to have if you visit - We parked where we thought was parking for the restaurant but was actually the parking for the town hall which is right next door. Parking for the restaurant is around on the street and the entrance faces the street.

The best meal during our 5-day stay in Door County. The service was fantastic and personable and the food was phenomenal (try the Brisket with the blood orange vinaigrette slaw or the herbed salmon filet over the sweet root vegetables -- and the tiramisu and lemon bars were LEGIT).

Wonderful atmosphere with a beautiful view of the water were extra perks.

Absolutely recommend this place!
