This place seems lost in time. I can tell that most of their food items are homemade. My hot beef plate was fantastic. My only minor complaint is that the ribs were somewhat plain and were labelled full rack but there was only 8 ribs, so that is a cheater rack.

Great place to eat! I love a restaurant that serves breakfast all day. We were seated right away, the waitress was perfect and very nice. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, boy, it was done right! It had toasted muffins, seared ham (very important), perfectly poached eggs, just the right amount of sauce, and I chose the fruit for the side. I wanna go back soon!

We are not from Wisconsin and we're traveling on vacation for 2 weeks. We stopped in Ashland as one of our destinations and was staying at a hotel down the road and we were looking for a place to eat. So we decided to check out this family style restaurant. The food was good, the staff was great with advice on dishes and attentive to you throughout your meal. I apologize but I cannot remember what I ordered. I would recommend trying out this great family restaurant. I don't think you will be sorry.

On the menu the 2 piece chicken dinner was $10.20 (Super good price). I asked if I could get all white and the server said, "Sure." When I got the bill I was upcharged $1.25 for this. Servers, please let your customers know there is an upcharage.

5/18/25 We were a group of 8 ladies from central Minnesota stopping here on a day trip and were so disappointed in our service and food. I ordered the Monte Cristo which was served on soggy French toast and the meat was dry, I ordered fresh fruit but was given fries, and my milk was room temp. Others ordered sandwiches or wraps that were dry or tasteless. One of the ladies commented to the waitress that her chicken in the sandwich was dry as a bone and the waitress just replied with a Huh, that's too bad....REALLY?! she was also supposed to get soup but ended up getting a bowl to go. Ice tea was crappy, root beer had an odd taste, the appetizer platter potato skins were hard and dry, same with the chicken strips, one onion ring was only the skin and no onion. Then when our bills came the waitress had all of them screwed up , redid them and a couple were still wrong. She commented this was only her 4th shift working, maybe so but it was a quiet Sunday afternoon and there was no excuse for such mistakes from the waitress and the cook. I ate here a few years ago with my husband and we had crappy service and food then but was hoping it would have improved. We would never recommend this place to anyone!

Friendly people. Great place to bring the kids. We go often. My toddler loves this place. She was given a little cow stuffed animal that she now takes everywhere. The food is good too. The ranch is homemade. So good. I can highly recommend this place. They also treat their workers well. One waitress was allowed to bring her baby to work. I thought that was amazing.

Stopped by on our roadtrip and we agreed that this will likely be a stop if we ever head this way. The setting is older and dated, like a mid-2000s Perkins (which according to the signage and multiple names, it may have been at one point?) but the food was inexpensive and great.

The fried chicken takes some time to cook but for good reason as it's made fresh to order and is fantastic! Even the breast was juicy and lush and the breading crispy. We spent under $30 for the two of us and I had enough leftover that we even split it for dinner that night.

The name comes up online and on menus as Chequamegon Family Restaurant. Sign outside says Ashland Family Restaurant. Perhaps a decision can be made and owners could go with just one name.
Server was pleasant and the food was very good. The chicken fried steak could have been crispier but the flavor was good. The eggs were overcooked, particularly since I ordered them "scrambled soft" and they were not even close. The pancakes were excellent.
I went to pay the bill and was charged extra for credit. No announcement beforehand; I had to ask why the charge was higher than the written bill.
So I put my card away and said I would pay cash. The genius at the till didn't adjust and gave me the wrong change. I told her that $4.96 was not the correct change. She stared at me blankly. Eventually she asked what the right amount should be. I said, "Don't you know?" She said no. I told her to subtract $14.56 from $20. She said she didn't know how to do that. I said it is $5.44. She looked at the money she'd put on the counter and shrugged. I stared at her blankly. And waited.
She called my server over and he couldn't figure it out either, so he pulled out his phone and brought up the calculator app. He was stumped for a while on how to best add 48 cents, but eventually I got my change. The till mistress looked on, bored.
After they figure out the best name for the restaurant, perhaps some training in grade school math and basic human communication would be time well spent.

First time here. Stopped in, we were greeted by a waitress that sat us, and took our drink order. She brought us our drinks.
Our server showed, after we sat for 10 minutes, he took our order. Then he got lost. He brought us our food later. I wanted a refill fir my ice tea, it took him awhile to refill it. I keep seeing him & another server, go back to a single table in the back, and chat with someone, this happened multiple times. Our server was nice, but seemed to not have much training on what items he should "Always Keep an Eye Out" for when serving customers. And one of those items are never let a drink get to the bottom (that is one of my things I watch, I am patient). But I had been traveling all day wanted something to drink. He was a thin man, with tattoos, I believe even a spider on his neck. He was nice & polite, just needs some fine tuning on the art of serving.
▪︎We had the two piece Cod meal. With salad, our dinner even came with little side of broccoli, which was unexpected: nice treat.
I did not care for my mashed potatoes (they were too thick, they were "Not" creamy).
▪︎The fish was perfect, very yummy.
I decided to get a carrot cake to go. It was yummy. 🍰

I had a Western skillet and it had sausage, onions, green pepper, and cheddar cheese over hash browns. Two eggs over easy crowned it. With toast...only about $10! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Amazing quality food in a comfy diner setting. We were blown away by how high quality all the food was- the alpine burger was so flavorful, the steak skillet was cooked to perfection with the rare steak and medium eggs spot on, and do yourself a favor and try the potato skins! Listed as an appetizer but you could easily make a meal out of those hearty potatoes! The service was quick and friendly too. We will definitely be back, this place is worth the trip to Ashland alone! 11/10

Bare minimum service. Small portion sizes. Largest piece of fried chicken that appeared to be a breast. It was all bone coated and fried. Tasted rancid. Cold air blowing on us. What was a description of cake to go. Was two small plastic tubes of pudding and whipped cream and sprinkles. My son and eye have never experienced such poor quality of service, food, and atmosphere. This used to be our favorite affordable place to eat on special occasions. :(

The hostess was warm, the waiter was friendly and professional (he was actually great!), and the restaurant was clean and cute.
The cheese omelet I had was just okay - slightly overdone and dry. My husband's cheeseburger was tasty but also overcooked.
I hate to mention this because our overall experience was good, but the ladies' bathroom, while clean, had an overpowering smell of mold.
We will stop again if we travel to Ashland in the future. We realize that everyone has an off-day, and like all restaurants, very short-staffed.
