I was BLOWN AWAY by the food here. But before I get into that I should say the owner, Robert, was so kind and lovely to talk to. We got an appetizer (vegetarian chicken) that was so good we had to order one to go so we could eat it later at the hotel. We order a total of 5 different things from the menu and not a single one was subpar. Truly such incredible Chinese food and I’m just so sad I don’t live closer to eat it every week!

China Gourmet offers the best Chinese food I’ve tasted since living in China! The crispy duck was perfection—beautifully crackling skin with rich, flavorful meat and just the right amount of fat. The sizzling rice soup was a delightful twist on the Eastern Chinese style I’m familiar with, yet still authentic and delicious. The orange chicken was exceptionally tender, with a balanced flavor that wasn’t overly sweet or heavy like so many Americanized buffet versions.

I also thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Mr. Tsao. He was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and attentive, adding a personal touch to an already outstanding dining experienced.

An old style Chinese restaurant just off the river. Inside decor seemed a little dated but definitely well established. Service was excellent, with knowledgeable and no nonsense server. Food was excellent and was not the same as your standard Chinese pre packaged food often served at restaurants. From the hot mustard condiment to the hour and sour soup to the entrees, food tasted properly made (possibly from scratch). We travelers were welcomed, well fed and well served. Highly recommended!

I ordered through DoorDash here as they had a few BOGO deals, which I love to see. I first started with the crab Rangoons, which were good and BOGO, so I got double the Rangoons! I can’t complain there. I also ordered the dumplings, which I didn’t care much about. I wanted some wonton soup for the cold day, and I was disappointed. There was no flavor at all, and it just tasted like water. The wonton itself in the soup was not that good, either. For entrees, they had fried noodles (like lo mein) BOGO. I got them in beef, and they were delicious. It gave me a couple of days of lunch and dinner leftovers. I wanted to try their chef's chow fun since I love a good wide noodle, but I wasn’t too impressed. There wasn’t much flavor, and it seemed to lack something. I might enjoy this dish more dining in, but for now, I’m going off of delivery. Lastly, I can’t order takeout without getting fried rice. I got the small shrimp fried rice and had to throw it away. It was so fishy tasting and tasted like salt water. I always get shrimp-fried rice no matter where I go, and I am surprised by how fishy this tasted—honestly disappointed with how it tasted. Overall, the fried noodles and the crab rangoons were the highlights of this meal.

WOW - WOW - WOW. China Gourmet is a very inconspicuous little restaurant (it's quite big inside) with really no frills or over the top atmosphere situated right across the street from the Pabst Theater. We were in a hurry to get something to eat before catching the comedy show across the street and we stumbled across China Gourmet. Our server (unfortunately I didn't catch his name) was so kind when taking our order and fast fast fast with the service. I genuinely dislike when people say "this is the best..." or "this is the worst..." BUT this was absolutely the most flavorful Chinese food I have ever had. The menu choices, which there were a ton of, were nondescript and not unlike what you would find at almost any Chinese restaurant, BUT the flavor profiles were ridiculous. Something as simple as pan fried noodles and fried rice which are normally compliments to the meal could have easily been the main meal. So fresh and so delicious. I had Kung Pao Beef and the sauce was so savory, I literally took the serving spoon and finished it off like a soup. If you're in town or going to a show at the Pabst Theater, don't bother with all the other options that are flashy and fancy; go to China Gourmet for the delicious food and the wonderful service.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at China Gourmet, and I must say it was an exquisite experience that exceeded the expectations for a family dinner spot this holiday evening.

The menu offered a plethora of options to accommodate anyone's taste from vegetarian, beef, chicken, duck, seafood, and beyond.

The staff was wonderful and being served by the owner was a treat in and of itself. He was courteous and helped me find the perfect dish --- which I will note was the best dish I've had at any asian cuisine restaurant.

I ordered something extremely simple, chicken and broccoli. What made this dish stand out is that I asked for it very spicy and my request was met with no hesitation. The flavors were immaculate and the extra spiciness didn't take away from the dish (as it often does when a chef doesn't know what they're doing).

A perfectly executed dining experience that rounded out our day trip in Milwaukee. Highly recommended.

Edit: Our family while engrossed in conversation forgot our leftovers. In perfect timing, the aforementioned owner ran across the street to meet us at the elevators to the parking garage to bring this to our attention. We are so grateful because we had already been talking about the exciting lunch we would be having tomorrow with the excess food the large portions left us with.

Food is great. We did the Special Chinese Dinner, which came with spring rolls, crab Rangoon, soup, and the entrees we ordered (Honey Garlic Chicken and Peking Duck). The chicken was sweet, crispy, and delicious. The duck was served with pancakes and hoisin sauce, which I feel drowned out the taste of the duck (still taste great, just didn't feature the duck well). Atmosphere is a bit odd, with constant phone ringing, mobile order reminders, etc. However, to survive COVID, I'm sure they did what was necessary. All-in-all we'd definitely go back.

I live in downtown and wanted Chinese. Ordered shrimp fried rice and the rice was far too soft; resembled a potato mash. No flavor and expensive for what I ordered. Will not visit again.

I ordered online and total it came out to $70 the food was horrible. By far the worst I have ever had and I’ve had some pretty awful Chinese here in Wisconsin. The menu was large and had way more of a selection then most of the other Chinese spots. The menu did say NO MSG which can explain way everything was so bland and not only bland not fresh. It was bad I’ve never seen white fried chicken and egg drop soup looking like water with scallots. It was just really really bad a place that disgusting shouldn’t have a location downtown!!!

The food was so disappointing! The egg drop soup was sour and serving was small.. it’s not authentic and like eating Mexican food at Taco Bell SMH the chicken wings looked like frog legs!! 85.00 down the drain!! Would not recommend this place EVER!!

Got takeout from China Gourmet and it was delicious. The Crab Rangoon was so creamy, I think it was the best I've ever had. We got steamed dumplings, General Tsao chicken and beef and broccoli as well- all great. Would definitely recommend and visit again!
