Chippewa Retreat Resort is an incredible wedding venue—beautifully designed with amazing attention to detail. The grounds are absolutely stunning, from the lakeside views to the perfectly maintained spaces that make every corner feel special. For the wedding I photographed here, the team set up a gorgeous tent for the reception, and even with a rainy day, the flow of the event was seamless. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour outdoors under a tent with hors d’oeuvres and an outdoor bar serving drinks, which created such a fun and welcoming atmosphere.

The property also offers a pool for warmer months, adding another layer of charm for guests staying on-site. While we didn’t get a golden sunset, the lake views during blue hour were breathtaking and made for unforgettable photos. It’s a venue that truly delivers both beauty and functionality, and I would highly recommend it to any couple looking for a Northern Wisconsin wedding location that blends elegance with the natural Northwoods setting.

We had our wedding here 9.21.24! It was the best day we could have ever asked for! Being able to set up Friday before, having rehearsal and dinner on site, and having the most smooth and perfect wedding day possible. I wouldn’t have changed absolutely anything and this is the venue if you are picturing a Northwoods, lake wedding! John was great to work with and gave us the most stress free wedding ever! Besides the fact that it is a beautiful and well-run venue with all the amenities a couple could hope for, it has all the amenities that a bespoke caterer of high-level cuisine could hope for. The full commercial kitchen available to us enabled us to pull out all the stops and really bring a couple's dream to total life regarding cuisine. I made reservations for one of the lower lily pad unit over at the resort. No where in the description did they mention very scary, primitive stone stairs to get to the unit. There were no pictures of this stairway in the listing. We were to stay for three nights. When we got there, it was raining and it was dark. There were Pine needles all over the steps to make it even more slippery. The lights were not on and there is no railing. I didn’t want to even risk falling on those steps so I stayed on the grassy area which is very steep. When I got down to the unit and I looked up, I thought I will never be able to do those steps tomorrow morning. We were supposed to have dinner with family that evening, but I did not want to risk those stairs at night. The family brought dinner to us. In doing so my niece fell down those stairs and she’s only 32 years old. I didn’t sleep all night because I was so worried. I told my husband I want to go home. I knew I couldn’t walk up those dangerous steps so we walked all the way around the pool and up a very steep walk that led us to the back of the restaurant. I’ve been trying to work with VRBO and vacasa to get some of our money back. But the owners must need the money more than I do because they refused. I’ve been researching government departments that can help me because those stairs are not to code. If you ever go to this place, I recommend you be proactive and ask as many questions as you can. But actually, my recommendation is go somewhere else. You will get absolutely no help from anybody there or anybody on VRBO or vacasa.

We stayed at the Chippewa Retreat over a weekend in the summer, and it was honestly a little weird because there was a wedding right outside our front door. The set-up was really a detraction from our stay and took away from the natural beauty of the Northwoods. We couldn't see the lake very well because our view was obstructed by the set up. We instead had a full view of a couple's wedding ceremony that we didn't know, and felt bad because we didn't want to distract the couple but also wanted to be able to enjoy our screen patio and have conversation, but we could overhear the wedding loud and clear, and I hope they weren't able to hear our conversations. We had been really excited about our stay, but I'd be hesitant to rebook here again, and after that experience, unless you're able to book the full resort for your guests (including the Den and the Lair since those are the first floor units overlooking the wedding lawn), wouldn't want to have a wedding here either. We also found the owner to be difficult to get ahold of.

If you have a desire to have a cabin comfort meets deepwoods experience I highly recommend. Plenty of space in the duck blind cabins with numerous amenities like a pool, tennis, and half court there should be something for everyone here looking to escape the urban wilds for the tranquility of the deepwoods.

We had our wedding at Chippewa Retreat Resort this last weekend, and we can’t say enough about how perfect everything went from beginning to end. We had the entire resort (8 cabins) rented out to family and friends and I can’t tell you enough how much everyone said they plan on coming back. The seclusion of being with only your family and friends, at a top notch resort right on the lake, is like none other. The grounds, the service, the food, the cabins (huge and decorated so perfect), the fireplaces, the sunsets, the morning dew over the lake, and the lake views are all impeccable! You can walk right out of your living room and out to a pier within just a few steps! John, Jill, and their whole staff (Peggy, Mike, Shawna, to name a few!) run the place like a well oiled machine! Whenever we had a question, they had already taken care of it, they were always one step ahead! We had no reasons to worry about anything, this place is ON POINT!! Our wedding day and weekend couldn’t have went any better and we couldn’t have asked for more out of a venue. If only we could go back and do it over to slow down time. I have to say, it is probably northern Wisconsin’s best kept secret! A true slice of heaven, breath of fresh air, and pure R&R. We will be back many times in the future!

I stayed at the Chateau Delaporte cabin with my family for a week. It was a BLAST. The cabin was super clean and stocked with everything you could need. There is a killer view of the lake; a boat and kayak are provided too!

Me, my husband, and father in law had the pleasure of dining there last night (7/5/2016) From the moment we walked in, we knew it would be an amazing experience. There was a woman sitting at the bar that gave me the most genuine compliment, and we later found out she was an owner. Mike was tending bar and we found out later he had only been there for about 3 months. His knowledge of the inventory and ease behind the bar made us think he'd been there for 10 years. He is a fantastic person for guests to see first. We had reservations for 8pm but sat down to enjoy a drink 1st. Candice was our hostess and ended up being our server. She apologized for being a bit understaffed, but honestly NO one there missed a beat. It made us reconsider why we didn't have our wedding reception there! Candice was extremely well versed in all of our menu questions, including spices and seasonings used, cooking methods and flavor pairings. She is a true gem. The firecracker Shrimp appetizer was a perfect amount for 3 people or even 4. It was perfectly prepared and could have been served at a swanky resturant down south. The rib eye my husband had rivaled steaks I enjoyed while living out west, when we got our steaks directly from the ranchers. We ordered dessert to go, and the whole way home we were all raving about what a great experience it had been. If this is representative of being understaffed, I cannot imagine what having a few more hands could have done better.
Bravo, we will definitely be back!
P.S. My husband had just been here one other time during snowmobile season. He wanted to make mention he was treated Just as well, even with all his gear on!

Pretty nice place with exception of several small problems in our unit. One of the bedroom blinds was broken and wouldn't close, one of the showers had pressure so high it hurt, ice maker in fridge didn't work, few doors were warped and wouldn't close properly, broken knob in bathroom, etc. It was a warm memorial day weekend and they didn't yet have water in the pool (I'm told it was a water pressure filling issue). Besides these minor problems it was a nice place. Definitely need to hire some new maintenance people. Most of these problems would be caught with a simple walk through by staff.

White Oak Grill at Chippewa Retreat - this was our first visit to the newly created restaurant and facility - located on the shores of Manitowish Lake. General Manager Dakota was prompt and communicative via email and phone as were coordinating our reservation. I was surprised by the size of the new building, it's much larger than I had imagined. Very well appointed and comfortable - visit the 1930's era bar area for a casual cocktail while taking in the views of the lake and beautiful resort. Tonight she had one of her favorites, pan fried walleye served with asparagus and a deliciously light house salad. I tried the evening special,"surf & turf" - seared pork belly and seared salmon served on a bed of tangy, black bean salsa and grilled asparagus. My dinner was excellent, well plated and tasty. She didn't enjoy the walleye but found the salad and asparagus delicious. I had a Wisconsin favorite - an Old Fashioned with mushrooms - very tasty. Misty our waitress was efficient and friendly as she attended our needs with her genuine Northwoods hospitality. White Oak Grill is quickly becoming the "place" in the Northwoods to see and be seen. I think you'll enjoy your visit - the location is romantic and charming and the hospitality is attentive and energetic - the food is well presented and delicious. Enjoy.
