Do not make the mistake of coming here. We had burgers: incredibly dry and salty to a degree where you just cannot eat it. We left almost the entire burgers on our plate. I told this to the host at the door, and he didn't even care. Normally restaurants with any kind of care or respect apologize and try to make up for it. Not here. Do not waste a meal at this restaurant.

The garlic butter was absolutely delicious. Really enjoyed the appetizer trio. The crab cake is the best, you can taste crab every bite, they put very minimum bread crumbs. For entree we had beef cheek Bourguignon and Croque Madame and both are very tasty. Finished our dinner with Salted Caramel & Chocolate Dome. It was a great dinning experience, food is great and the service is awesome. We will definitely be going back soon!

We were so excited to dine at Chives today in celebration of my engagement. The server Jessika was rude to my mom, ignoring her, setting her dessert in the middle of the table and everyone else’s directly in front of them, making for a horrible experience. In addition to this she was making it seem like an inconvenience to answer any of our questions. I was highly disappointed while I am a server myself all I expect is kindness. Such a happy day turned into a waste of $500. We will definitely not be recommending or coming back.

This is a lovely place to have dinner. We've eaten here a few times - the last time we ate there we sat outside and it was absolutely gorgeous. The staff is wonderful and the food is really really good. Cocktails are also very good. I highly recommend this place.

The young man at the outdoor register seemed bummed to be working. Not helpful. Then, I had to remind them we had an order in. No one was working on it. The old truck used to be one of our favorite stops in DC! Maybe just a bad day!

For years Chives has been one of our favorite destinations when in Door County (which we visit often) but tonight our experience resulted in deciding we would not done here again. We sat for 20 minutes before a server even came to the table, ordered a half dozen oysters to share and they were delicious but whoever shucked them did not cut the muscle attached to the shell which made them a bit difficult to eat and unable to eat the entire oyster. They were served without plates, crackers, or fork for eating. We both ordered the whitefish which, once again, delicious but the green beans were uncooked (tough and cold) the the sauce was scarce and broken. Our Server never came back, let alone check on anything. One of the other servers cleared out plates and another just a few minutes, offered us dessert menu which we ordered from. This server, while not responsible for our table was wonderful! We sat for another 15 minutes and finally the desserts were served. They were also fine but the lack of service and the kitchen missteps means we won't be back! It certainly was not a $175 meal!

Went for our anniversary- had a cute card on our table signed from the staff. My favorite part was the yummy dessert! Unfortunately, while trying to celebrate our anniversary with a new dining experience, we were seated next to a large group with lots of children. Don’t usually bother us, but kids were up and running around, yelling, throwing food everywhere…kinda hard to enjoy quiet conversation when we couldn’t hear each other. So, we quietly finished up, and waited to go outside to chat. The music they played was a bit out of style of the restaurant (hip-hop and pop- think Flo Rida and Miley Cyrus )- I had imagined something a little classier but hey, now we know what to expect!

PLEASE try Chives if you are in Door County because the food here is actually amazing. My family and I came here on a hot summer night and I got the beef cheeks -a very hot dish- and I actually started sweating so I had to put my hair up and ask them to let some air in. It was very hot in the area we sat in we were all sweating lol

We stopped here for after dinner, drink and desserts with the family and sat on the patio. It was beautiful overlooking the water view- you can tell it’s a classy restaurant. We had the banana something or other that was so good - fresh and a variety of textures. I can’t explain it, but it was very good. We also had the chocolate dome which is beautiful and just everything you want it to be. Our service was also really great and refreshing. we were not rushed and had a really nice experience. place was clean and the bathrooms were cool.

I highly recommend this dining experience! We did not have a reservation (party of 2) but they were able to seat us immediately. We had a super great server, Megan, who helped us navigate the food and drink menus. I had the steak frites which was amazing! They also have a variety of non-alcoholic cocktails. Overall great food, amazing service, and a beautiful view of the lake! We will be coming back!

Fantastic 5-star dinner at Chives this evening. Made a return visit on 6/23/25 and experienced consistent 5-star service, food presentation and quality. Save room for dessert. Our group ordered mussels, whitefish, and chicken marsala. All were delicious. Please Note: The restaurant does not have air conditioning. There is a side entrance with a ramp if the front stairs are a concern for those who have mobility issues. Park behind the building to access the ramp.

Got brunch in a weekday. Called in advance to ask if we need reservation, they said no but when we came in the hostess being difficult and took forever to decide if we can get in even though it’s not a busy at all.
The space is nice but the table we have and cutlery was kinda dirty The food was mediocre, not good not bad. The waitress we got was unfriendly and kept giving attitude for no reason but then super friendly and nice to others.

Ordered beef cheeks bourgignon from regular menu and aged sirloin papardelle as a special. The former wonderfully savory and the latter fragrant with herbs. We did a splitsy and really enjoyed both. Bread service good with herbal butter a bit too salty. Lotsa stairs entryway. Good service from host stand to final check.

My three girlfriends and I visited Chives on a Saturday evening at 8PM in April (off-season in Door County), and even then, the place was incredibly busy—so definitely make a reservation in advance!
First impressions: I loved the dark, moody ambiance. The black and brass décor gives it a chic, cozy vibe that feels both upscale and welcoming.
We started with their complimentary bread and chive butter, and it was so good! The bread was warm, fluffy, and tasted freshly made. The chive butter it came with was a pleasant surprise.
For dinner, I had the baked French onion soup and a mixed greens salad with grilled chicken and dressing on the side. The soup had great flavor, but it came out scalding hot. I had to wait over 15 minutes before I could really enjoy it, and I burnt my tongue and the roof of my mouth.
By the time the soup cooled, my salad had already arrived. The salad was great- the greens were fresh, and the chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. The only downside was the dressing was very acidic. I was glad I got it on the side. One of my friends ordered the same salad with the dressing mixed in and didn’t like it as much.
Overall, it was a nice place with good food and a buzzing, moody atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try their other menu items.

For the past three years, Chive’s has been a birthday dinner celebration destination for my wife and me. Last night we dined there again, and it was another confirmation of why we choose this restaurant for our special occasions. The service from Carlton is awesome. He’s super knowledgeable and keeps dinner fun. The cocktails are unique and refreshing. The oysters were a bright and satisfying way to start our dinners of beef cheeks and pappardelle with veal, and since we’re indecisive we ended with a couple of desserts: the chocolate eclair and the banana cream fruit tart. We had a great time as always, and we highly recommend checking Chives out for a delicious dinner experience.

Best meal you can get in Bailey's harbor. My wife and I at carryout from here 2 separate nights - best meal I've had in a long while both times. Get the steak frites and the crab cakes. I cannot tell you how amazing the service is. Don't sleep on this place!!!

Service started good, but went downhill as she would disappear at least 20 mins at a time. soups and two apps took nearly two hours. Plus - the escargot - plain and bland. The cheese board was great, however. We’ll spend elsewhere next time.

We had a great time eating at Chives. My husband I each had a well crafted cocktail before dinner. We decided it was the best cocktail we had all weekend while in Door County. Thank you! We enjoyed the French battered whitefish and the beef cheeks bourguignon. The whitefish was cooked perfectly and the green beans served with it were amazing. We really enjoyed the bread service with the squash and roasted tomato soup that we ate as an appetizer. To top things off we decided to also split dessert. We had the cherry almond bounce cake. Yes, we were stuffed to say the least. The cake was soaked with delicious cherry flavor from the cherry almond syrup and that streusel on top was so good! We will definitely be back again next time we come to DC.

Went this morning for brunch and the food was fantastic all the way around. Fresh and everything was homemade, even the jam - the ketchup I suspect was homemade too since it was different than any other and so much better. The service was the only problem. Our server was nice enough, but it was problematic when we asked a question about one of the menu items and he just said he didn’t know - and put forth zero effort to find the answer to our question. That set the tone for our entire service with him.

Service was very good. Waiter wasn’t overly friendly but was attentive. Atmosphere was very good. Bathroom wasn’t the cleanest for what I would expect at a restaurant of this supposed quality. I had the grilled shrimp which was good but nothing overly special taste wise. My husband had the beef cheeks. Again lacked overall flavor. My son’s meal was the biggest disappointment. He had the breaded whitefish. It had very little sauce on it and was extremely bland. It included 4 small fingerling potatoes and 4 beans. It was 38.00. I was so disappointed for him. The foods flavor just wasn’t there and I doubt we will be back.

We wanted to like this SO bad. We love good food and good local spots. Unfortunately it wasn’t it for us. Our server seemed too busy to notice us and the food took a very long time to come out. I had the duck and my partner had the ribeye. We both agreed they rested too long and were cold when they came out. For the price- those are just misses we don’t return for.

One steak over cooked, another steak hunder cooked, poor quality of beef, or just not properly done. Terrible sides, which included salad in a cup difficult to eat. $5O steak entrées offering only fries with steaks. On top of that the waiter either forgot to put our order in or the kitchen was just slow on a wet, rainy Friday with very little business. No excuse, terrible disappointment. Waiter did nothing to recognize my birthday and did not care to make our dining experience any better. He agreed the steak was overcooked. He then did nothing to compensate for it, with the exception of taking the one steak off the bill. The second steak under cooked was barely touched.

Our family has been coming to door county for many years and this is one of our favorite restaurants.
We come up to the door peninsula on average 3 to 4 times in a year and we always have to stop in for their delicious cuisine.
The staff here is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. If you have any special dietary restrictions or just have any questions, simply ask everyone is more than happy to help.
They have a wide variety of goodies on their menu please everyone in the family.

For having reservations three days ahead, we were disappointed in our dining experience. It was a cool evening and we were only offered outdoor seating. Our appetizer was good, but drinks and the rest of the meal took a very long time to receive. By this point, plenty of inside tables were available, but an offer to move inside never came. Our meal came about 1 hour and 20 min after ordering. We had an 8:00 reservation and arrived at 7:45. Didn’t stick around to try the dessert. No thanks.

6 people had to sit outside. Everyone’s steak was overdone. Salad wasn’t a salad. When you pay 50 for a steak and get French fries with it you’re at the wrong place. All were very disappointed. Went to Alexander’s a couple nights later everything was perfection there.

Ich hatte einen alkoholfreien Lavendeldrink der sehr lecker war. Der Salted Caramel & Chocolate Dome ist absolut köstlich. Ich hatte Chicken Marsala mit Kartoffeln und Gemüse. Die Bohnen waren sehr hart, die Kartoffeln etwas wenig. Das Gemüse hatte wenig Geschmack leider. Das Hähnchen war perfekt zubereitet und sehr zart. Unter Marsala hatte ich mir eine andere Soße vorgestellt. Diese war nicht ganz mein Geschmack. Ich würde trotzdem wieder kommen und eines der anderen Gerichte probieren. Der Lachs sah lecker aus.

Chive has a fun atmosphere and interior/exterior seating. We had dinner reservations and were seated right away but the service was a bit slow throughout the whole meal. I didn't see many different servers so I am wondering if they had been short staffed. The meals were mostly good. My daughter got noodles and she didn't like them. I tasted them and I agreed they didn't taste great. Too salty or something. Everything else was good though and would likely be back!

This is our second trip to Chives as out of state visitors, and once again we had a thrilling culinary experience. Food was superbly prepared. Spencer (our waiter) was excellent and very accommodating of a gluten free guest. Enjoy a house cocktail, and get the salted caramel chocolate some dessert, one of the best desserts we have ever had. If visiting Door County, Chives is the place for fine dining.

The Black Cod special was outstanding! Perfectly cooked and delicious flavor. The shiitake mushroom soup was a must order. The cherry bounce cake was very tasty. We also ordered the crème brûlée which after tasting it turned out to be coffee crème brûlée but I thought was fantastic.
Waitress was kind and attentive. Atmosphere was classy. We would recommend.

This was an entire experience from start to finish. First off, the plating and presentation was impeccable. The food looks just like the photos advertised on the website which was incredible. Our server was absolutely outstanding. She was kind, courteous, and went above and beyond. They had the best French onion soup we've ever had. Every bite of food was eaten. We loved everything! We were excited to try a restaurant that we had not been to before. The photos and reviews online were what made us make a reservation. It started with being seated at a very dirty table, that we were sticking to from the guests that had eaten before us. We had to request that someone clean the table.
Our dinners arrived about 7 minutes after we ordered, I thought it must have all been pre cooked / prepared to be served to us so quickly. We did not even have time to enjoy a bit of pre dinner conversation over drinks, it felt very rushed.
My husbands Whitefish was undercooked and only warm and pink in the center of the filet, I could not finish even a bite.He left half of it behind. I had the black cod and it was better than my husbands Whitefish. The portion was so incredibly small that I left hungry. We both left hungry and plan to not go back again..

This is a must stop restaurant in Door County. The Black Cod dinner was absolute perfection. I can’t believe this dish isn’t a permanent staple on their menu. Even the kids meal grilled cheese sandwich was extraordinary. Carlton, our waiter, was fantastic by displaying great banter with the kids and provided impeccable service. We are in the area hopelessly off season and wanted something local for dinner. The area, for the most part, rolls its streets up around 5pm, and it was 7pm on a Monday. We did a quick search for restaurants near us and were lucky to see chives come up. We had the lamb shoulder and Chives Duck Frites. The food, service, and atmosphere were top-notch. We decided to take dessert to go . We were already pretty amazed with our experience. When we ate the Cherry Almond Bounce Cake and a seasonal fruit tart with apricot pistachio and blackberries, we were more than blown away. I will have dreams about the cake for years to come. Definitely worth a stop if ever in the area!

It’s a really cute restaurant to have a meal if you are in the area. Home made bread with whipped butter with chives was great. We ordered mussels for an appetizer and it was also really well done. We were not impressed with the chicken marsala and the duck - they both lacked in flavor. I’d also recommend to change your wine list - wines did not have names and regions which is a must for a fine dining place. My pino noir was very average unfortunately.

The food was absolutely wonderful except dessert. Fabulous tenderloin steak and chicken marsala. We would order these again and again. But, when your waiter says "the all too often overlooked dessert", there is likely a reason. We were served a very dry "Slice of Paradise Cake" which was Keylime Pie, Coconut Sponge Cake & Passion Fruit. Sounded wonderful until we were served a small slice so dry that the two of us couldn't finish it. Other than dessert, we were absolutely happy with our meals and would return.

This was easily the best meal we had in Door County. We live in Chicago and consider ourselves spoiled with restaurants there but if Chives was in Chicago we would go back. The beef cheek bourguignon was a stand out for us. The waiter, John, was also excellent.

Nothing here was worth what we paid…
I was expecting some correlation between the incredibly good reviews and the quality of the food and overall experience to walk out of here thinking: never again.
The food lacks flavor, quality, and creativity. The service was slow and unfriendly. And the place was not very well taken care of. Too bad the picture of their restroom doesn’t really reflect the sadness and lack of attention that I experienced. Dirty, tiny sink where you can hardly wash your hands - imagine the kitchen staff in a hurry mode, just not very well taken care of. It felt like a gas station toilet as opposed to the upper scale restaurant they want to be. At least when it comes to prices. Seriously, deep fried food for the price of fresh food? No way. Flavorless and late. It took them 28 minutes to deliver an appetizer and a main deep fried fish and chips that tasted like paper. Paid, got out of there and didn’t really get anything from the staff. Slow in service, grumpy and unpleasant to deal with. Never again and terrible experience.

I stopped in Sunday 12/3 for brunch. Everything we ordered came out great, but the french omelette was absolutely perfect. I'm writing this review 3 days later and I'm obviously still thinking about it.
My only critique is that I think the coffee should be better for the cost otherwise, it was a terrific experience.

And when I couldn't decide between two entrees he surprised me with one of the two - the scallops. They were some of the best scallops I've ever had. I went to Chive for my birthday dinner. Multiple people had recommended Chive, and I'm happy we went. I highly recommend making a reservation. I loved the atmosphere and the little library room. Unfortunately, they were out of the dessert that I wanted. The Sea Salt Caramel Dome. We actually ordered our dessert before ordering our meals because they were running low on the one we wanted. I ordered the French Battered Whitefish, and my friend had the Mussels and fries. Everything was amazing! We had a newer dessert that looked like a green apple. It was unbelievable.

Had reservations and was seated shortly after we arrived. Our server was friendly and provided some great menu suggestions. I had the DoCo burger with the mixed greens. The bacon jam on the burger provided an amazing flavor to the burger. My wife got the mussels and fries. It's a huge serving and was delicious. It was late and we were full and didn't have dessert. The price for the dinner was super reasonable for the quality of the food. Highly recommend.

Their monk fish was so meaty and delectable with crispy skin. It truly tasted like lobster! The chicken Marsala was juicy & tender with a delicious sauce. Its not that it was bad, just BORING. This experience reminded me that I was still just in Doot County. Its a tough market, people want to eat some place nice and brag to their friends, but it better not challenge anyone's taste buds. You don't want unsatisfied customers and I doubt you get many with your nicely plated dishes. I was so excited to eat here. I had only heard good things but I was disappointed with the food. I started with the mozzarella and tomato jam galette with carmalized onions and arugula. First, it was the size of a slice of school pizza. You know, the huge rectangle. And that is what it was, pizza on puff pastry with no flavor. Pepper, thyme, oregano....anything would have helped it. I wanted it to transport my taste buds to the French country side. But it did not. I couldn't even taste the carmalized onions. I asked about the Shrimp with Harissa and chickpeas. I think I worded my question wrong. I asked if it was spicy and was then told not to worry that the harissa is made in a way that is not spicy at all. I should have asked if it was nice and spicy, so he could understood that to me spicy is what i wanted. So I went for the Monkfish with mustard greens. The fish was cooked nicely, but the entire time i was eating it i was trying to determine if I had the fried whitefish by mistake. But then i would eat the mustard greens and realize it must be the monkfish. It wasn't bad, just boring. My husband's food was fine. He had the butternut & root veggie soup and the duck frites which were fine. But really its Door County, so duck with cherries should be a no brainer and the fries were the star on that plate. The specialy cocktails were delicious. I adored the chive butter and bread. The cherry almond bounce cake was surprisingly tast. Finally, our server was great. I just wanted more flavor.

Took my wife here for our anniversary. I’ve been to the Suamico Chives, but never the one in Baileys Harbor. Service was fine / nothing noteworthy. However, we were consistently covered in flies at our table (who wants to be sitting down for a nice meal swatting at flies the whole time?). Maybe close the patio door so guests don’t need to deal with this issue? If the dining room, where paying guests are eating, is swarmed in flies, what is the kitchen like?? Ordered the charcuterie board. ~$25+ We order a lot of these at restaurants. I can honestly say it’s one of the worst we’ve ever had. Hardly anything on it. One of the items they included on the board was clearly just to fill up space (never heard of it before, but it wasn’t cheese, nuts or meat). Chives mgmt - please go visit The Pearl in Ephraim and order their charcuterie board to get an idea for what it should look / taste like. Ordered the chicken. My wife had a soup and salad. For some reason it took 45 mins for the food to come out (place was half full at best). Waiter said the delay was b/c “the chicken is made from scratch”…what does that even mean? As opposed to what? Chicken was good, but nowhere near worth $38 for the size. Warm bread and butter were great, but I have to pay $6 to get more bread? Wouldn’t come here again, other than for drinks. I can’t quite figure this place out. The prices are high, which suggests it’s focused on fine dining, but there are bugs/flys all over the place, as if you’re camping. I get the sense that they’re more focused on making money (I.e. lackluster charcuterie board that probably costs $1 to make and they charge $25 for) then they’re focused on quality and exceeding expectations. Focus more on the latter, and the former will follow suit. I should note that I was impressed with the Chives in Suamico, which I know is under different ownership, but I couldn’t have been less impressed with this Baileys Harbor location.

Fits my definition of fine dining. Was with four friends and each meal wonderful, and the server treated us well. When we asked the host if we could move inside we were told that we had "standard reservations" and we could not move inside when there were available tables inside. Four of us had a TERRIBLE experience. Megan, the hostess, placed us outside at a table laced with flies. There was an empty table inside that we asked we could sit but she said it was spoken for. Odd that a patron could reserve a table and we could not. I tried to request an indoor table 30 minutes later when there were 5 empty tables and again, Megan dictated that we stay outside. Megan suggested that we could get the table we wanted if we waited for 2 hours. Pathetic.
John our server had no personality and was not attentive. It took over 25 minutes to get our food order when two tables around us sat after us and got their food before us. I ordered a particular red wine and John came back to the table to state the restaurant ran out of the wine and did not suggest an alternate. After he served our entrees, he only visited the table to drop off our checks.
One in our party is a host at Harbor Fish Market who was underwhelmed at John's poor server skills and Megan's lack of any customer service to accommodate unhappy customers.
We've eaten at Chives many times before. This was the WORST experience we've had at this restaurant or any restaurant in our years of coming to Door County to dine.

Service was slow for receiving drinks and entrees. Restaurant was not entirely full on a Sunday night. Two ppl got the pork tenderloin special which was overcooked with barely any cherry sauce.
Server was in a hurry to get our drink orders and it took forever to actually get our drinks.

Although the other food was fabulous, we splurged and ordered a dry-aged beef special and it was quite expensive. It was prepared to the wrong temperature and the meat was chewy. The flavor was very good. Other items were delicious. The wine was on point. We will try the restaurant again, and hope that the meal is prepared as it should be.

Food is top notch, one of the best in Door County. The escargot is amazing! The chive butter is fantastic. Crab cakes are to die for.

Food was good service was terrible. We waited about an hour for our meal which wouldn’t have been a problem if our waiter would have checked on us to see if we needed anything like more drinks. When the food came, the steak that I ordered rare, came medium well. The waiter wasn’t the one that brought our food and he didn’t stick around to see how the steak was. After waiting several minutes I got up to find our waiter and tell him about the steak. After he took my meal to get redone, it took over 1/2 hour before I got my steak back. The waiter never stopped by during that time to see if I wanted another drink or anything. When I got the second steak he didn’t stay and see if it was cooked adequately or if we wanted anything else. Thankfully it was cooked perfect but by that time I was irritated and wanted another drink to go with my meal since I’d only had one this whole time. Thankfully the kid filling water kept stopping by. We had planned on ordering dessert but our waiter didn’t come back for another 20 minutes so we asked for the tab and got out of there. The waiter removed the steak from the bill but I’d of rather just had a good meal with good service.

I had a beautiful view of the water to look out over Baileys while enjoying our perfect meal. Inside or out - your experience will be amazing.
I hope you have Carlton as a server. He is social, knowledgeable of the menu and yet respectful of your space. His beverage pairing suggestions were spot on.
Our meal was balanced, flavorful and a true fine dining experience. It is the perfect romantic night in Door County. Most parties are under four guests and that adds to the intimacy.
I recommend getting a reservation in summer but you never know you may luck out!
When it came to dessert he recommended the eclair- my husbands favorite. We went with the chocolate dome (devine). Carlton recommended we take one home for breakfast with coffee- I would recommend this idea as well!

I told our waiter we would have to leave. He said he would have the chef prepare me something amazing so we stayed. Was super disappointed in my experience. First of all it was my birthday which I stated in the reservation. We were given an ok table and asked if we could be seated outside but they said no. But the next group that asked was given the table outside. I ordered the escargot which was not good. I love escargot and was super disappointed in them. No flavor and poorly done. We ordered dinner. My husbands duck/chicken was terrible. For $30 it had barely any duck and no flavor. I had the cow tongue and it was not good. It was dry and lacked any special presentation. We have been here before and loved it. Tonight was not good and was upset my special evening was a disaster. Won’t be coming back

A delightful and charming spot indeed. However, the sneer on the waiter’s face when I did not place a drink order for I opted to vibe on water instead, should have been an indicator of how the rest of the experience would unfold. My Partner ordered the Beef Cheeks Bourgogne, and I the daily special of Stuffed Chicken Thighs. As an appetizer we selected the crab cakes and bread with chive butter was at our reach within a lengthy moment. We will touch on the butter soon, the crab cakes although were good, a lack of acidity and citrus zest left the pairing of a carrot slaw lacking about as much as the salt that was cleverly forgotten in the preparation process. The Stuffed Chicken Thighs were a nice idea but the smokiness overpowered nearly ever other flavor only to be partially saved by the fired candy onions and baby greens. Again seasoning would have been nice. The Beef Cheeks were as tender as if they were just pinched off the cow and the sauce deep and rich. Plopped on top was Spatzle and a healthy Wisconsin war cry of melted cheese. The Crème Brûlée to finish was top notch. Overall, the atmosphere and candor was amazing, but the Butter for the bread was by far the star of the show. I gave three out of five stars because my other half told me to be nice.

There specials were unfortunate sold out and when entree came out, beef cheeks were cool, as if it sat in the window a few minutes too long.
