One of the absolute best barbecue places I have tried around. The staff was very friendly checking up on me to ensure that I was enjoying my time and that all my needs were met. The dish I ordered was jalapeno sausage and macaroni and cheese. Both were cooked to perfection
I thought the price in general was just a touch expensive but nowadays what isn't expensive.
I will definitely be going back again. I would like to try their brisket and their jalapeno cornbread.
The only constructive criticism I can think to give is that they should offer more sauces. Specifically, I would like to see vinegar and pepper flakes (NC), mmmm yummo!!!!

We stopped in to City BBQ to check them out, as we own a BBQ food trailer in northern Michigan. We had great conversation with the manager, Matt and he was fabulous! He was so helpful and so kind. I order catering for work quite often and City BBQ is always a hit. But what truly stands out is the Customer Service that Andria brings with every single order. She knows me enough by now to know what I generally order that a simple text is all it can take. I try not to do things last minute - although in our line of work that's unavoidable at times. Today I needed her without ANY notice at all, and she not only handled it - but did so with incredible poise and friendliness. I cannot thank her enough for providing the exceptional customer service that we receive. She's just truly top notch and I love working with her!!

8/9/25 First off, I ordered through Uber eats.
I have to start with the packaging, it looked like either, a current or former marine, or possibly a factory worker in downtown Tokyo put my order together. ( It was that neat ). Next, ordering BBQ someplace other than the Carolinas or down south around the pan-handle, one can't usually expect much. But was I genuinely surprised! The ribs were fall off the bone tender and extremely tasty, and the potato salad was good also. Just goes to show, you just never know. I'm from San Francisco, we def don't have good BBQ. BBQ sandwiches and ribs were delicious, especially since we are used to Missouri STL style BBQ. Rib meat fell off the bones, and the pulled pork had a great flavor even without sauce. First time in as we came through Madison for the day . What a great place . Jeff ( who turned out to be a regional manager ) was as the one who greeted us . He could read on our faces we had never dined with them before . He gave us a quick rundown of the menu.. told us his favorite choices . He was not wrong . We ordered the Judges platter that had Ribs- brisket - chicken and pulled pork along with 2 sides . We took the dark meat on the chicken selection and went with Jeff’s side choices of collard greens and potato salad . We also ordered a side of fries because I’m a sucker for hand cut fries with malt vinegar and yes indeed they have malt vinegar. When I say they stuck their foot in their greens .. I mean it . This may be a chain restaurant but there is some absolute pride that goes into their product . The meats were tender and juicy : the ribs were at just the right doneness that the meat easily came off the bone but it didn’t just fall apart into mush . The pulled pork was buttery and unctuous . The chicken was juicy and full of so much flavor and the brisket had one of the best barks I’ve had in a long time .
Potato salad was the right Blend of baby reds with a mayo dressing but was very simplistic . Nothing too complicated to take away from the other flavors going on .. oh and Jeff gave us a complementary side of corn pudding and the homemade Mac and cheese .. both were excellent . My friend hates corn bread and or bread pudding and she loved loved the corn pudding . Mac and cheese was creamy with rich cheese and a perfect amount of crisp on the top cheese .
The restaurant was clean - drink and condiment station clean and stocked with a variety of house sauces .. low co and swine wine is by far my fave sauces ..
super happy we popped in and gave this place a whirl after so many disappointing bbq places we have been to over the last year . 10/10 recommend !!

Stopped in for lunch with high expectations and my coworkers.
Each of us ordered a different meal.
The presentation and service were good, but some of our meats were definitely subpar and dry, starting with the brisket. All of the sauces helped. It's hard to mess up bbq sauce..
The smoked chicken was cold, almost flavorless, and would not recommend.
Now we come to the burnt ends... slightly saving this review. They were on point and delicious..
all n all over priced for the portions, and they can do better.

Okay, I was blown 😳 away 🤯 with the quality of the food here!! Absolutely amazing👌!!! I kid you not, it was my first time here and I'm DEFINITELY going back!! Everything was good. They don't just give you a piece of cornbread, they give you a small loaf of amazing cornbread!! The ribs fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, the mac 'n cheese was perfect 👌, and the collard greens were amazing! Did I mention that you get a small loaf of amazing cornbread 😋 🤣 😂 !! I've ordered from here a few times and usually the food is good and warm when it arrives. This last time? Dog meat. It was close to closing, so this was probably the leftover scraps. I tried the pulled pork sandwich ($8.49) and it was fantastic. I upgraded the bun to Texas toast for an extra $1.49 and it was well worth it. See my attached video and photo. Nice and generous serving of tender pulled pork!
The new Spicy Smokestack jalapeno sausage dog (topped with pulled pork and slaw) has just the right amount of spice and flavor. The apple cobbler (with whipping cream on the side) makes a perfect dessert and is a generous serving enough for two to share! The Nashville Hot Tender was surprisingly good! Nicely spiced but not too hot. Perfectly matched with the ranch dip.

Craving BBQ and came here with my kiddo to check it out and had a very good meal. I always judge a place by its brisket and ribs, so I ended up getting the two meat platter (pulled pork & brisket - up charge of $3) along with three rib bones. I also got an extra side, so we ended up with mac & cheese, baked beans with brisket, and hush puppies.

Meats were overall very good; pulled pork looked dry but was actually quite tender, ribs were definitely fall-off-the-bone tender and flavorful, but the brisket was a bit of a miss. I received about 5-6 thin slices with my order and half of the slices were dry. The other half was juicy, but if you’re going to charge a premium to add on brisket to your meat sampler platter then you better make sure that item is executed consistently.

The sides were fantastic. Mac & cheese was very cheesy, flavorful, and was a big hit with my kid; hush puppies were perfectly crispy on the outside and delectably soft inside and seasoned well; and the beans had noticeable chunks of brisket mixed in. They were a bit on the sweet side for my taste but definitely still tasty. I also enjoyed the variety of sauces they offered and was surprised to really like their spicy vinegar based sauce which I typically don’t opt for when eating BBQ.

Overall, staff were friendly and helpful, location was clean with outdoor seating, and it would have been 5 stars if it wasn’t for the dry brisket. I’ll definitely be back and maybe have better luck with their brisket my next go around.

I'd really like to give this place five stars because the service was great (fast and friendly) and most of the food was excellent. I got the 2 meat platter with 2 sides. The pork was fantastic, and the mac and cheese and fries were spot on, but the brisket was dry as cardboard with no discernible flavor. Normally, I would have asked for some new pieces, but I was running late for an event. Overall, it was a good experience, but the brisket was quite disappointing.

I will start this off by saying that the service was immaculate, and honestly really inviting. Now as for the food on the other hand the sausage I had was really quite dry and rubbery, and the brisket was dryer than the Sahara desert. So for me a 3 dollar up charge for a meat that was not tender and lacked a lot of flavor is a little steep. The atmosphere was almost there but it lacked the aroma of a classic American bbq, overall for the price there are better options around, not saying that it was bad, the passion is there but the execution of the product of off.

For what it is (chain restaurant) I was thoroughly impressed. Not the best pork ribs or bbq, but compared to what is available in the area, the food is above average. Juicy and tender was the meat, crispy and salty were the fries. Nothing fancy about the sauces, although the mustard sauce I would try again. The service was quick and the counter guys were friendly. Adding further context and updating my rating from a 2 due to the follow-up and communication received after the fact. City BBQ addressed the issue and worked through the delay on refund. Sunday's are hard to make adjustments and they did everything they could.

The food has always been fantastic, just don't trust the delivery.

Normally I would rate this location as a 4-5. Unfortunately the most recent experience left me wanting much more in terms of service and accountability. I ordered delivery through their app linked directly to City BBQ. This business contracts through Door Dash and charges a 1.99 service fee and 3.99 delivery fee.

I probably would have picked it up had I known that it was a contracted delivery and not the restaurant, but it's not unheard of. I tipped my 20% and waited for over an hour while receiving updates of my delivery status. 20 minutes past my original expected delivery, I receive a text that my driver Ulysses has handed me my order and to call him if there are any issues. I didn't receive the order and spent the next 10 minutes calling a number with no voicemail setup and my calls continued to go unanswered.

I was finally able to get in touch with someone at the restaurant since Door Dash takes zero responsibility and doesn't offer customer service. They offered to send another order, but I had already been waiting for 1.5 hours with all of the back and forth. I asked for a refund and they told me they would refund my card but it would take 3-5 business days to see the return.

It's not the end of the world to wait for the refund, but the whole hassle has left me never wanting to use this businesses services again. The food is good, but the service and follow through is quite poor.

I love the smoked Turkey, has great flavor, and the cornbread is so good! My husband and I used them for catering on Saturday 9/7 for our wedding. We had the smoked turkey, pulled pork, brisket, cornbread, green beans with bacon, 3 cheese Mac n Cheese, and homemade peach cobbler.

The food was AMAZING and we got so many questions on who we hired or where they were located. By far the best wedding food I've ever had and everyone who attended agreed as well! They were so quick to refill any food that was getting low, packed the food up for us (without us asking), were incredibly friendly to all of our families who had questions, responded to anyone who had allergy concerns, and overall made our wedding experience.

It was so hectic and I only got one plate so I was pleasently surprised (and quite happy) they boxed all of our food for us and even sectioned portions in a container to be placed into the fridge. Thank you so much for every thing you did and for providing a memorable wedding meal. My son got married 2 days ago up in Coloma and City BBQ catered. OMG.... everything was beyond amazing. We got brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, Mac n cheese, green beans, peach cobbler, corn bread. I couldn't stop going back for more, until I was past bursting. They had a Labor Day special on rib bones for $1.79 (every Tuesday is the deal too.) Two of those and a pulled pork sandwich was plenty for me. We ordered a side 3 pack of beans, coleslaw, and cornbread. Threw that coleslaw on my pulled pork sandwich. Beans with brisket were very good. The pulled pork sandwich was huge. Just melted in your mouth.

They have about 5-6 different sauces to pick from by the soda/lemonade counter. Lemonade with some meats is the key. The rib bones were full of meat and Smokey. The food out outstanding!!

We live on the very east side of Madison and I gotta say, it’s well worth the trip. I plan on doing it more often. I’ve tried a lot of places around Madison and so far this place has it all. Cornbread with honey was delicious. Mmmmmmm. Wish I took pictures but I was so hungry I forgot.

First time here and the barbecue was fantastic. I especially loved the ribs! Looking forward to trying some chicken wings next time. We also got to sample the banana pudding. Highly recommend! Nice atmosphere. Easy parking right near the West Town Mall. Wish I had gotten some photos but I was too busy eating. Lol

We regularly stop at City BBQ. The food is fantastic - Lolo's Pulled Pork is a delicious choice. The staff are always upbeat and always accommodating with dietary needs we have. The environment is casual and relaxing. If you like good BBQ, this is a great place to go in Madison.

Overall a really nice spot, reasonable pricing on par with other BBQ restaurants in the Madison area. Staff are often quite friendly and outgoing. Largest area for improvement/lack of a 5th star is poor planning/par numbers. I have been multiple times during the dinner period where various foods are already sold out for the day. While it is great to not be wasteful, if you close at 8p, and one comes in at 5:15, there shouldn't be multiple options sold out with the staff stating "we won't be making any additional today". If these par numbers could be improved with less sell outs early to account for dinner rush this would truly be a 5 star restaurant.

Not only is there food amazing and atmosphere delightful. Their staff is exceptional! My family was out in the bad storm last night, they ended up parking outside of City BBQ. Even though they were closed the staff was kind enough to pull them inside and let them stay until the storm passed. A huge thank you to this amazing place and their sweet staff! I've always gotten take out or delivery as I work nearby.

The pulled pork has a good peppered kick to it, which I am a huge fan of! The brisket is good, but prefer the pulled pork.

The side are pretty amazing. The corn pudding is amazing, I could eat it everyday. The hush puppies are dang good too! The best part, they drop them in the frier when you arrive for your pick up so they are super fresh and hot!

The peach cobbler dessert is very tatsy as well!

Overall, an excellent choice compared to the usual carry out in the area!

I am never disappointed with the quality the flavor the smells all of it! It is really hard to find a good barbecue place that is close by and it is so nice to know that I don't have to drive clear across Madison to get good food. I rather pay for quality and flavor and everything and this place never disappoints. I hope they stick around for a very very long time. It's definitely one of West Madison's gems! It's been excellent every single time. I'm not a huge pulled pork fan but theirs is out of this world!

The peach cobbler and corn pudding are so good too! The one really nice touch is that typically they won't put the hush puppies down until you walk in the door to pick up the order making sure they're super Super Fresh! That's attention to detail!

The layout and feel of the place is nice. Good lighting, clean, pleasant bbq knickknacks on the walls, etc.

Service is quite friendly and helpful. Kitchen looks clean and very functional.

The food is... disappointing. Tried the ribs on my first visit and they were... ribs. As in the dictionary definition of ribs, as if someone had taken a Star Trek replicator and told it to synthesize some bbq ribs. Nothing special, nothing creative. They didn't taste bad, but there was no passion to them.

Tried the smoked sausage on my second visit having seen them on the menu. In fact, I came back for them, as I'm quite fond of an excellent kielbasa or bratwurst. They tasted like greasy anger, as if my mouth could sense the very indigestion that I was likely to feel later. There was no discernible flavor, no spices or seasoning beyond the liquid smoke that was likely used to create their smokey aroma.

If you're a veteran of quality bbq, I wouldn't go here. It seems very mass-produced for the masses. No love or emotion went into this food.

We used City BBQ to cater our summer camp wedding near Lake Geneva in Aug 2023, and they were absolutely fantastic. The quality of the food and service--our guests loved it. They also made sure to make a plate for both me as the bride and my now-husband--were it not for that I am sure we would have forgotten to eat! To top it off, City BBQ catering was great to work with. Andria worked with us and was such a pleasure--the amount of guests and order changed as we got closer, and she was great at making adjustments and working with us. We also did our tasting in the Chicago area which was so much fun. Shout out to Veneisha who catered that. Highly recommend City BBQ for catering a wedding--the food was incredible. So rare to find great food at a wedding for reasonable amounts! I'd give them 10 starts if I could.
