We were trying to find a breakfast place in sister bay but all were terribly crowded with a minimum wait of 45 mins.
This place popped up and we figured to give it a try.
Now this place is very small and the menu was limited but they provided a service other places could not do.
Keep in mind that there are only 4 tables inside so this is truly isnt a sit down restaurant.
The food was ok but hot.

Terrible. Look, I get that so few people wish to leave an honest review if it isn't glowing, but we had an awful breakfast here. $8 for a biscuit that is smaller than 2" across, a single piece of Canadian bacon, one egg, and a slice of cheese? $3 coffee that is nothing better than free pot coffee at a super 8? The owner is running the whole one man show himself, which is admittedly admirable. But that doesn't make the food good or worthwhile. Go somewhere else for breakfast.

Amazing comfort food! Their daily fresh baked biscuits are perfect. Cooked golden and fluffy, not too moist but not too dry. Everything was fresh and made to order. The menu was varied and they had some great vegetarian options. The owner was extremely friendly and seemed to love his craft. The interior is very simple, a great place to grab a quick bite before hitting the lake.

I highly recommend Crain's to anyone looking for a simple but incredibly tasty comfort meal.

Noodle salad was very salty and could only eat a few bites. GF Biscuits are really good. Food took a while to come out and when my wife’s order came out it was not GF. I would not go back.

Well I got glutened. I am celiac so I was very excited to try this small place. Upon arriving it was clear this shop cannot handle more than one order at a time. I was asked if I was GF for my order of chili and biscuits (GF) and I said yes. I was super excited to try my food so I didn’t notice that the biscuits weren’t the sweet potato GF. After I asked for clarification if they were GF, he said loudly across the entire restaurant “are you ones of those people who is going to get sick now?”. It was incredibly embarrassing. He in no way suggested a refund but rather simply said “I have to get more careful about this stuff.” I regret choosing this restaurant and I would never recommend. You have been warned.

Not only did it take close to 30 minutes for our food even though we were the only people in the “restaurant”. As well as I told the cashier I was gluten free and he proceeded to service a dish with buttermilk muffins which were not in fact gluten free. The cheery on top was the fact he didn’t even comp the meal and just repeatedly said “I need to be more careful.” Wouldn’t recommend especially if gluten free.

If you are a fan of home-style biscuits, I highly recommend you check this place out. Biscuits are the central theme here. He makes old school traditional biscuits and gluten free sweet potato biscuits. Everything else spins out from there. We got the BBQ chicken biscuit sliders & the chicken pot-pie; both were excellent. For our sides we ordered the sichuan noodle salad and the kale apple salad; very refreshing. We will definitely be coming back to try out the breakfast menu.

Absolutely delicious food! Stopped in for lunch and this place is a 10/10. Great portion sizes for a fantastic price (especially in door county). Owner runs business himself and is incredibly friendly. I had the chicken pot pie on biscuits and my boyfriend had the BBQ chicken biscuit sandwiches and both were phenomenal. Only 9–12 dollars for sandwiches and salad/chips. Best southern comfort i’ve had in the north!

Check out his wife’s store in Baileys Harbor called House of Crain! Super cute fabric store with high quality fabrics from the middle east for great prices!

Crains kitchen is the cutest hidden gem in Door County! We stopped here for lunch while visiting sister bay and couldn’t be happier with our food and service. The owner was the one who made all of our food and served us, giving us recommendations about the menu. We decided on the BBQ chicken and chicken pot pie sandwiches with the date and goat cheese salad. That plus a bowl of soup and two drinks, our total was less than $30! It was a steal. Great value and great food. Highly recommend!

Was really looking forward to a smoking hot cup’ a Joe and a biscuit sandwich, but Crain decided he’d take a little vacation, treat himself. Hope it was worth it Crain, I had to settle for an inferior product!

We was visiting my nephew in Ellison Bay this past summer and while browsing through Sister Bay I seen this restaurant kind of tucked back and I said let’s go there because there was a breakfast sign out and we hadn’t ate breakfast yet well we went in and the owner had gluten-free biscuits and that’s what I needed was gluten-free. He had bacon egg and cheese biscuit sandwiches and they were delicious and we had my nephew with us and a few others and everyone was very pleased with what they ordered. I cannot wait to go back to door County and go to this restaurant I will eat there every morning that I am there visiting!

My wife and I were there for lunch. We were convinced by the very high rating that the place was where we wanted to eat.

It was a cold winter day and the interior of the restaurant was very cold. We kept our winter coats on the whole time. The interior is cheap and the bathroom was dirty. Metal chairs and a cushioned but still uncomfortable bench for seating. Not well lit.

The owner was the only one working. Nice guy but very busy. We were the only ones there. We ordered and then waited and waited for our very easy to prepare food. He seemed to be busy doing everything else except for preparing our food.

The big thing at Crains is that they serve a lot of food with or on biscuits. I ordered bbq pork with Cole slaw on biscuits with chips and my wife ordered chicken with cream cheese and cucumber on biscuits with a small cucumber salad. We each were served 2 very small biscuit sandwiches. They were like sliders in size. Mine were okay. My wives were very bland. The cucumber salad was bland.

Wonderful little gem in sister bay. We stumbled upon this place looking for a light lunch. We were greeted by the owner who explained his menu to us and gave a sample of his pozole. I ended up having that (pictured). My wife had the chicken pot pie biscuit. (Pictured)

Food is well done and reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place.

I'm not sure how this place is so highly rated. We arrived when the place opened and it was clear the owner wasn't ready to start the day. The coffee maker spilled over and was leaking all over the floor. There were dirty dishes from what looked like the day before. It was self serve coffee, which sputted out grounds along with some bland coffee. One of the 2 biscuit sandwiches we ordered came out cracked on top and shoved together. The cheese shavings in the sandwiches never melted and it's still unclear if real eggs were used. The tater tots were soaking in what tasted like yesterday's grease. $24 later we threw out our food, taking the loss of money versus the loss of a vacation day spent in the toilet after questionable food.

Lovely little hidden gem with a lot of potential. The breakfast sandwich was good, the biscuits were fresh and light, and the food came quickly. I think there is opportunity for the place to be more popular. A few people came and went while we were there, not wanting to sit down, most likely because there was only one comfy/nice area to sit in and the atmosphere was not that welcoming. The tables and chairs were reminiscent of the 60's but were lost in the lack of theme and no emphasis on the home-cooked-meal-esque but modern vibe I think they're going for. The fluorescent lighting was harsh and uncomfortable. It felt almost like an at home BBQ × bakery with the metal coffee pots and cups with plastic cutlery. I think there is too much on the menu and it lacks organization. Midwesterners, as far as I know, like clear cut choices and a clear way to make them. The front counter is lovely and I really like how the kitchen is open and you can see the chef cooking. There is so much potential with this business to be more unique and cute and welcoming by making a few design tweaks here and there. But otherwise, it was delicious and fresh.

We stopped in on a whim and were so pleasantly surprised, we absolutely loved it! The specialty for breakfast is biscuits, with gluten free options. We checked google maps in Sister Bay for a breakfast/lunch option after finding out that Al Johnson’s Scandinavian Restaurant had a 90 minute wait…and we found one of our FAVORITE HIDDEN GEMS of our trip to Door County… CRAIN’s KITCHEN ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️… The tiny space is tucked away and recessed between two other businesses halfway up the hill on N Bay Shore Drive, a creation of a guy named Andy (Crain)… who loves to make biscuits from scratch and top them with aromatic homemade creations like the Chicken Pot Pie Biscuit that I devoured with joy. The chicken pot pie filling was concocted of stock made from scratch, so lovely!

My dining partner had the Egg Sandwich Biscuit and which he described and “simple and cooked perfectly” and the biscuit was flaky and flavorful.

We enjoyed it so much that we ordered a Pulled Pork Biscuit Sandwich, which did not disappoint… the pulled pork nearly melted in our mouths and was accompanied by crunchy cabbage which added to the sensory experience of this delightful meal!

Go see this guy, Andy, at CRAIN’s Kitchen, and if he tells you there may be a short wait for fresh biscuits, stay there and wait! You will experience one of your favorite meals in Door County!

We were in DC in the off season and were looking for a place to grab some dinner that wasn't a pub or bar. We were so happy to have found this little place! The food is fresh, delicious, and feels homey and familiar.
