Visiting Stoughton, someone suggested Deaks for lunch. It was a Monday, a little before noon, when we arrived. We parked in the lot and were a little confused about where the entrance was. There really isn’t a clear “front” door — you enter through what looks like the back, next to a fenced-off area for the air conditioner.

Inside, it feels like a typical pub, with a large bar area, video poker games (not a fan), and several different seating areas. Since it was a nice day, we chose a spot outside (we were the only ones there). We were greeted right away by our server, who brought waters and drinks.

The menu has a good selection of items. We ordered the Cowboy Burger (on Texas Toast) and a Steak Quesadilla. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and everything was hot, flavorful, and served in generous portions. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium. The homemade potato chips were very good and served warm. The tortilla chips were also warm — a nice touch. The quesadilla had a good amount of filling with the steak, though a few pieces were a little tough or gristly. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and we had enough leftovers to take home.

Overall, a solid lunch spot. Excellent service the entire time (thanks, Colleen). I’d be happy to stop in again.

Food is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. They have a “specials” dish everyday of the week. My coworker and I love ordering for lunch. Prices are reasonable. Only have a two for service because there is one waitress whom everytime my coworker and I come in she isn’t very friendly or attentive come ones to take drink orders and food orders, never comes back to offer refills and or if we’d like anything else. But if you sit at the bar (can’t remember her name) but she is amazing!

We were in town for a basketball tournament and decided to have a drink and a bite to eat between games. The waiter was nice, but took a long time before she checked in on us. We ordered wings and fries. The wings didn’t seem like they were fully cooked and tasted ok. The waffle fries were actually pretty good. The margarita was extremely salty.

I got corned beef and cabbage. I got long strings of dried out chewy corned beef, disintegrated cabbage, mushy potatoes and carrots. I paid for a meal I didn't eat, and will never go back. This was their second chance.

Stoughton, WI is not exactly a place known for culinary excellency, but Deaks is solid and more importantly, it's very consistent. It's the best burger no matter the day or time you order. The staff is also universally friendly and quick. You don't have to worry about getting the wrong server/cook/bartender. Great service and food no matter who is working. That is a testament to ownership because that is no easy feat.

The only thing that would make this place better and a more frequent "go-to" is if they had GF beer. Husband has been multiple times and stated when he took me it was not the best. My burger was eh, no flavor and his cheeseburger was very pink when asked for well done. Fries were cold, coleslaw was decent. Had the bbq burger without bacon. Server was nice, but non-existent and it was dead (4 other tables) and waited too long for check & to go containers. He was surprised because other times has been fantastic, so I will try it again to see, but for my first time I wouldn't go back. Went at 6:45pm and left at 8:15 for 2 burgers & sodas on a Thursday night!
