Definitely glad we saw this restaurant on Google maps when we were trying to find somewhere to eat while passing through the area. Their menu has a little bit of something for everyone. We had 9 people including kids and no one had complaints. Our waitress was leaving just before we were ready to leave. She came to let us know she was leaving but there was no rush. She even brought her mom over to introduce her as our next server. Everyone was so sweet. The food was delicious. Will definitely return if in the area and will recommend to our Madison friends.

Ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast, had some weird meat chunks in the gravy, couldn't identify what it was and it was chewy and hard to process. Initially thought it was sausage in traditional sausage gravy, but it was not. The chicken fried steak was what seemed to be a pre breaded food service type of steak, not impressed, eggs and hash browns were ok, service was decent but on the slower side. With the options available around Madison I'd probably not opt to drive back out there, but if I were local id probably try to find something they are more specialized in when going back. At best it was mid to lower level cafe food, I picked the weird meat chunks out and ate the main entree and didn't leave hungry. The should probably fly up some southern gal to teach them how to make a proper sausage gravy though. One to ten scale I would give it a 5. For $20 bucks I expect a hand breaded steak not food service pre breaded.

I absolutely love Deforest family restaurant, it sits just a few minutes out side of the hustle and bustle of Madison, but close enough that it's no issue choosing to go here over some of the great restaurants in Madison. They have a great breakfast menu (you have to try the biscuits and gravy *chefs kiss*) and their dinner menu is good as well. Their burgers are big, and have great flavor. They have really fried good cheese curds and their chicken and dumpling soup is easily a 10/10. This is one of my "go-to's" when I have out of town visitors.

We stopped here on our way back home from camping on a whim and it was a lovely place to eat breakfast. The food was excellent and the staff was so friendly and welcoming, I felt as if I were a regular at the place. Even the coffee was better than your average diner brew. I will make a point of returning when we drive this way in the future, which is an unusual thing to say about a random diner on a road trip - that's how much I feel like they deserve a five star review.

We had explicitly requested that our takeout order be packaged with the toast separate due to a severe gluten allergy. Unfortunately, the toast was placed directly on top of the food, resulting in cross-contamination that rendered our meal inedible. The restaurant offered to remake a single portion of the order, which would have required a return trip, or to process a refund in person rather than over the phone. We are quite disappointed by the apparent lack of consideration for customers with allergies and the inconvenience of the refund process.

We had the open face sandwiches one was beef. One was meatloaf. It was the worst meal I've ever had in my life. It was instant everything the potatoes you could drink through a straw, the chicken and dumpling soup definitely had something wrong with it and it was watered down as well. Once a really great restaurant, they have gone downhill drastically. Breakfast may be good but skip lunch or dinner. Their once delicious dumpling soup was now inedible. The broadted chicken half was a joke. The leg and thigh had very little meat, the tiny leg discusting. The tiny white meat was tough and dry. The hot beef sandwich was bad processed deli meat. Saw another guest leave his mostly uneaten as well. Mashed potatoes were ok. We stopped at Kwik Trip to get edible food. So very disappointed we can no longer support what used to be a great place.

Very much a family atmosphere. Seems like everyone in town has Sunday breakfast here, and I know why! The parking lot and restaurant were packed which I always a good sign. So friendly!! Everyone who we met was extremely friendly, kind, and so helpful! The inside was bright and cheery blues and whites. After reading the menu, I order and they are out of the one thing I want which is my biggest pet peeve at any restaurant. They don’t tell me they are out of it until they drop off my salad which comes with my meal and I start eating it.

i quit going there after the owner Jack Amiti fired Angie.she was a fabulous server and also a friend. many of her customers were her friends. five stars for service was for Angie. the five stars for atmosphere was because of Angie. the three stars were for the french fries. i came in 5 days a week and had coffee and read the paper. i might order fries to share with Angie that's about it. i would rather eat some where else. just because of things that i was aware of and pricing. my thought is i don't mind helping put clothes on your kids but i am not making your mortgage payment. examples, $5.79 for one pancake. if you want chocolate chips add $3.30. $4.25 at the Hwy Cafe and no charge for chocolate chips. sliced prime rib sandwich$14.99 and i was informed this only has two ounces of meat on it. $14.99 with no side.if you want one pay another dollar. $18.99 for 12 tiny wings. $11.99 for deep fried mushrooms,i get them at the Hwy Cafe. $6.49 and and you get more. i've found that you have to make sure that you check prices on everything every were. even for a piece of pie. also i'm not promoting the Hwy Cafe, these are just some observations and comparisons. i have been going to restaurants for thirty years to read my paper,coffee and meals. at the Deforest Family Restaurant it ended up being just coffee and visiting my friend. after he fired her. i no longer go there.

I went there with my father and all 8 of my kids. There was minimal wait time for the food. We go here regularly and really enjoy the breakfast/brunch menu. The corned beef hash is one of our favorites, offered as part of a "Skillet" or a breakfast combo, as well as a side dish add-on. It is well seasoned (using Pleasonings) and flavorful. The pancakes are light, fluffy and flavorful as well. My favorite however is the "Haystack", which is biscuits and say gravy over a bed of crispy hash browns, and two eggs on top of any style. As a tip, for those wanting to lighten up their order that normally incy hash browns are a side, fruit may be substituted for a small charge. The coffee is pretty good, and is refilled plentifully. Service is always friendly, efficient and fast, even when they are busy.

The food used to be so good, they had an all you can eat brosted-chicken and cod that was to die for. And THEN the remodel happened! Gotta pay for it somehow I guess!
