Great staff and great food. Scallops, lobster, and steaks were great. Hot bacon dressing on the salad bar, sooo good. Nothing for a wine selection, disappointing. That is the only negative thing though

The entire staff were welcoming and kind. Our waitress Sandy was super nice, as well as all the folks working the bar. Not a long wait time at all for a Saturday evening. It was my wife’s bday, and they even brought a personal cake with a candle at the end of dinner! The food was delicious, as always. We also recently had a baby and this was our first date night out in 4 months. Dick and Joan’s staff made it a very nice evening! Glad we chose here for a first night away/bday dinner. Thanks!

Went to try this place for the first time but we couldn't get served. After waiting 10 minutes for someone to put us on the waiting list for a table, I approached a waitress to ask how to get on the list. She responded "point and grunt" style, by saying that one of the bartenders would put us on the list. Even though we had already been waiting at the bar for ten minutes or so, we waited about another 10 minutes, but the bartenders never even approached. If they are that lax in something as simple as greeting customers, I don't think we even want to try their food.

Really good food! Glad bartender so nice when our party of five walked in and asked for a table and she informed us that she gives us menus and we tell her when we ready to order and she sent us a waitress right away then. Worked out great! Salad bar was very good too! Oh and the warm homemade bread brought to our table, superb!

Great Ribeye Steak and Salad Bar. Best "Hot Bacon Dressing" that I have ever had. Full salad bar except on Fridays. It can get busy, but our wait has not been longer than 30 minutes since we started eating there. Reasonable prices and a good staff of waitstaff to take care of you. We love it.

I had an absolutely delightful experience at Dick and Joan’s 220 Club in Appleton, WI! The steaks here are nothing short of phenomenal—my sirloin was cooked to perfection, juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor, easily one of the best I’ve had in the Fox Valley. The menu offers a great variety, but the steaks truly steal the show. The service was equally impressive; our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home in the cozy, classic supper club atmosphere. From the warm bread to the well-stocked salad bar, every detail was spot-on. The staff’s genuine hospitality, paired with the top-notch food, made for a memorable evening. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to this gem of a restaurant[Image]

In Appleton, WI, it is legal for restaurants to charge a credit card surcharge if they provide clear and conspicuous notification to customers before checkout. This notification must state that the surcharge only applies to credit cards, specify the surcharge percentage, and ensure the customer has the option to pay with another method like cash or debit. The surcharge must be applied equally to all credit cards, and it cannot be combined with a cash discount.
Elaboration:
Legality:
Wisconsin allows restaurants to charge surcharges for credit card use, provided they adhere to specific disclosure requirements.
Notification:
Before a customer makes a purchase, the restaurant must clearly notify them that a surcharge will be applied for using a credit card.
Equal Application:
The surcharge must be applied equally to all credit card networks, not just specific cards.
No Cash Discount:
A restaurant cannot offer a cash discount in conjunction with charging a credit card surcharge.
Debit Card Exclusion:
The surcharge cannot be applied to debit card transactions, even if they are processed as credit card transactions.
Surcharge Purpose:
Surcharges are intended to offset the fees that restaurants incur when accepting credit card payments.
Visa's Rule:
Visa has a rule that allows for a maximum surcharge of 3% for all credit cards.
YOU NEED TO SEPERATE THESE CHARGES , IT IS ILLEGAL TO SURCHARGE DEBIT. Will be taking action till you stop.

DO NOT GO HERE!! They do not take reservations. They tell you to be there early. They don't give you a number. They don't take your name. They don't tell you to have a waitress come get you. We were 6th in line and had a waitress come out after she took orders for 10 other people. She looked stoned and lost. After I seen other waitresses seating other people who came in after us and no one came out for over an hour. We left. My advice is to go to Mark's Eastside. They have a number system. Food is awesome. Very pleasant staff there. Dick and Joans is a place if you want drinks. They do their best to get you a drink. The restaurant part is a big FLOP!!!

Terrible Bar Service. I waited 20 minutes before I was served. The owner was very rude. I spent $25.00 and he did not buy a drink. I have been going there since his dad operated it.
At least 40 some years. Recently the chicken has been too salty. Don't go there. Go to Heiting Place for excellent chicken and good Service.

Went on a recommendation. They required, I have to go to the bar to get a dinner table and wait there for the waitress (not busy). They asked if I wanted a drink and requested my company credit card to open a tab. I requested my card back as I did not want to go in the back seating area without my card. I also explained I am only allowed one charge for dinner and needed the drink merged with dinner. They closed my tab instead to give me back my card they wanted to hold. I did not get past the strange and unusual ways of this restaurant to go any further to try their dinner. I would strongly not recommend this place as there are many other normal good restaurants in Appleton.

My husband and I have been regular patrons of this restaurant for years. Tonight we stopped in to eat and I ordered a pork ribeye. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans as the sides. The beans were perfectly hot and okay to eat. The “mashed” potatoes was a mixture of instant and mostly big chunks of real potato that were so hard I couldn’t even mash it with my fork. I had asked the waitress ahead of my order if the mashed potatoes were lumpy and she stated they were not. Also, the gravy that was ladeled on my potatoes was from a gravy packet and it tasted awful!
Honestly the food I received was sub par tonight which will keep me from eating here again for a long while. It’s a shame when your favorite restaurant starts to go downhill.

Was here at 3:50 and waited in line to get in. Once in, the bartenders kind of appear to cater to the regulars. Servers come at 4:30 to take order. They start at bar and then come to the upper level for orders. They shud send one to the bar and 1 to the upper tables. We walked out because we didn't have a long time to sit and wait.

100% guarantee we'd never go back.
First person in our group got there and checked in at 430p. Orders taken at 515p. Finally seated at 715p. Server casually wandered past once to check on food and didn't stop for the response.
At one point we asked if there was any idea how long our wait would be. Answer given was "I have no idea, and don't ask again."
Save your money and time, go elsewhere.

I grew up in Appleton and now live out of state, but return to attend Packer games with family and friends. I remember going to supper clubs and loved the whole atmosphere, as well as the food. I had never been to Dick and Joan's, but read the reviews and thought it would be a safe choice to give my other half his first supper club experience. For years, he's heard me rave about a good, midwestern steak and after 4 hours of traveling, we were hungry and ready to take in the supper club experience.
We drove past the restaurant, as it was very dark outside and the establishment is not well lit. The entrance is in the back of the building, which was interesting. When we walked in, we looked for a hostess station, unable to find one. We had to track down a server to ask how to check in, and were told to sit at the bar. We sat at the bar for quite a while before anyone acknowledged us. Finally someone came over and handed us menus. We were so confused after we were told someone would come by to take our order and we would be seated when our order was ready. What? ! We live in a large metropolitan area out of state and this was unlike any restaurant experience we've ever had. This should have been our sign to leave..... but, unfortunately, we didn't.
While we waited at the bar to be seated, we watched the older lady behind the bar cash out patrons, lick her fingers to count money, then proceeded to restock unwrapped straws into the straw containers around the bar. She did not wash nor sanitize her hands. All we could think about is the filthy money on her hands and her saliva, now contaminating every straw being used at the bar. Disgusting! Again.... another sign we should have left.
When our food arrived, the steak that was ordered medium rare was BLUE and cold inside. It was inedible and sent back. The server brought out another one and that one was also very rare. She could see the frustration on our faces and offered to throw it back on. We decided to eat around the edges and just end this miserable experience.
ANYTHING in Appleton would have been better than this food & experience.

Traditional WI supper club setting. Small but adequate salad bar. A but disappointing that you can't get martinis, at least not anything beyond a plain vodka martini. Margaritas were very good. Tenderloin well seasoned. Not a huge fan of the stuffed shrimp, but the presentation was nice. Had the staple homemade bread loaf, very good warm and fresh. After a full day shopping this was a welcomed stop

11/28/2024 - Unlit sign on the road, nearly passed the place. Parked in front, just to learn the entrance is in the back. Again, no visible signage. Once inside, I ordered drinks at the bar. No one mentions you need to tell the bartender to send a waitress to your table to take your order, even though you get a table in another room when they are ready for you. Such a weird setup, and I grew up in Wisconsin and in supper clubs.
The tenderloin I had, had multiple tendons through it. It was prepared properly, but was only 4-5oz. That and only three deep fried shrimp didn't add up to $28 in my eyes.

This long-standing staple in Appleton is a classic supper club in both look and feel. This no frills restaurant is a local favorite, and rightfully so. The large rectangular bar offers plenty of room to enjoy Brandy Old Fashions and pile up pull tabs, while ample seating options can accommodate both small and larger groups. While the bartender was not overly friendly, she was quick in getting us our orders. The waitress assigned to our party of 17 was very friendly, attentive, and also quick with our orders. My husband ordered the stuffed shrimp with fries, and the shrimp was just ok. While the shrimp were of good size, there just wasn't enough flavor in what I suspected was the cream cheese and shredded crab stuffing. I, on the other hand, had the scallops with tenderloin and twice baked potato. The dish of scallops offered about 10 smaller sized but well flavored scallops in butter sauce, the tenderloin which I ordered medium rare was beautifully pink in the center, and the twice baked potato was a nice size and delicious. Everything was served nice and hot. Our waitress also brought out, fresh from the oven, homemade bread, which was amazing! My dinner choice also came with the salad bar, which was relatively small and a bit cramped, but offered a nice variety of options. Wisconsin supper clubs are a classic thing and worth the stop. Dick and Joan's is no exception. Even if you're not a local!

Pretty disappointed. Haven't been here in a couple years. The prime rib was great, tenderloin was overdone. Ordered medium rare and it was closer medium well. Also, the little note on the register, informing customers of a 3% credit card fee is ineffective. When I mentioned placing that notification on something prominent, like the menu or bill, the (Sunday evening) bartender was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. It was a disappointing experience.

This is the most unorganized restaurant I've ever been to. I shouldn't have to walk all the way through the restaurant to see a sign that says to be seated talk to the bar. The bartenders are nice, but short and sweet as they are busy. Never asked us if we have been there before or explained the process even after we had mentioned it's our first time. Fun fact also, no free soda refills. I guess there's also a credit card fee - which would've been nice to know ahead of time. After getting drinks and menus a server came over after now 10 minutes of being here. Let us know that it should only be about a 30 minute wait or so. We sat there patiently (as it's Friday) excited to try a new place. We saw people come in after us and get seated before us and bartenders catered to regulars more. After an hour wait even the bartender was questioning why weren't sat yet. We were ready just to walk out and the server finally came and got us. Upon walking in back there were other tables open (not just ours). Seems like our server forgot about us and kept taking tables. Food could have been better for price. I'm sorry but the Tenderloin is not a Tenderloin it's more of a sirloin. It was charred on top which shouldn't be unless asked. Was a little well done than liked. The perch tasted like perch anywhere else nothing special. Hardly any side choices for the meal and fries were the cheap crinkle fries no seasoning either. All in all for a 30$ dinner I would have expected at least decent tasting food but here we are. The food just seemed really cheap. I find it amazing how this is the first supper club I've been to where you can't eat at the bar. If you're that busy you can get more people taken care of faster and happier customers. Maybe get a door greeter or a host stand that can better assist customers as they walk in. As my husband had found this place due to a recommendation, maybe you should take a note from all the negative reviews and better your restaurant and maybe you'd get even more regulars and new customers out of it.

I'm sorry, but came here for supper and felt like second class citizens because we don't sit at the bar and drink before supper. Confusing system to get your order taken and how to get seated. Almost had to beg to have a waitress take our order.
Not a very friendly bartender when we asked questions. DAH!!

Can’t tell you what the food is like because we never got that far. We walked in the door and saw a huge horse shoe bar with every seat filled. Extremely loud as everyone was enjoying themselves. There were also tables where people were having bar drinks. Around the corner we could see what looked like a dining room. We approached a server (assumed it was a server since she was dressed in black) and asked her where we checked in for dining. She said “see the bar tender”.. Uh, okay. That’s strange but okay we’re in. So we waited in line behind several people ordering drinks until we got to a space at the bar. We said two for dining please and she handed us two menus and walked away. Okay again, as this place was recommended to us by the Hampton Inn and so we thought we could stick it out for a while. We found a table in the bar area and sat down with our menus in hand. We noticed several other tables also had menus. So thinking it might take a little longer than expected we also ordered drinks. We waited and waited and waited as we saw a group that came in in front of us being taken to a table, and so we are thinking cool, we should be next. Nope. The servers then began taking orders from people at the bar and also at the tables in the bar area. So now we are thinking could this be a half hour wait? An hour wait? A five hour wait? Not one person spoke to us or gave us any indication that they even knew we were there. We left with our drinks half full. Wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. It’s not for travelers. It’s for the locals. It seemed that they were the only ones that were being served.

Stopped in around 7 pm on Friday evening for a fish fry. Bar area was pretty busy still. Was served drinks fairly quickly. Notified the bar tender we were ready to place our order. Waitress came out shortly thereafter and took our order. By the time our 2nd drink was finished, we were notified that our table was ready. We belli3d up to the soup & salad bar right away. No complaints there. The clam chowder was wonderful. Thick and rich as expected. Fantastic flavor. Great selection for salad and the phenomenal bacon dressing to boot! The warm bread at the table is irresistible, and a 2nd order was brought without having to ask as the waitress observed the 1st basket was near gone. There was a bit of a wait for our entrees to be served. I 2as not a fan of the fish ( breaded haddock, breaded perch, breaded shrimp, & breaded scallops). It was all mediocre, IMHO. Not horrible or bad, just blah. My friend had the broiled scallops and said they were great! Everything was reasonably priced. I had never gotten fish or seafood here. Always had a steak in the past, which I would definitely recommend. However, if you're looking for a great Wisconsin fish fry, I'd have many other choices before this one. All in all, I had a great evening in a great environment surrounded by great Wisconsin folks. My belly said otherwise the following day, from what I suspect is the oily deep fried food. I hope this helps in your search for dinner.

I hate to leave a poor review, but my wife and I were incredibly disappointed after eating here, and we wished we had gone anywhere instead.
The first time here was confusing as to how you get seated because you have to go to the bar and ask for menus, and that's where you order. Then you're brought back to the tables later.
Staff were friendly enough, but we weren't asked how our food was until we were paying at the bar, and when we said it was disappointing, the woman acted like she didn't hear us.
I got the queen cut prime rib, and my wife got fried haddock. Additionally, we got the mixed basket appetizer and bread and salad bar is included.
Bread was bland and a little crusty, but soft and warm. Appetizer was good enough and the best tasty thing we had. Both of our meals were under seasoned. Prime rib was tender and aus jus was a welcomed bit of flavor, but there just wasn't enough to make up for the lack of flavor of the beef. Even the french fries weren't salted.
For $63, we would have rather got McDonald's or anything else. Very unfortunate that our anniversary dinner was wasted here.

But I told hereveryone else that came in the last 15 minutes is being seated.

Had high hopes for this. Reviews looked great and photos looked good, but the actual experience was subpar.
From the moment we walked in the door, no one greeted us, no sign saying what to do. We asked a server for a table and were asked if we saw the bartender for menus. Odd for supper club, but okay. Got our menus and stood for about 5 minutes in the hallway until our order was taken and then we were seated.
Food was mediocre. No seasoning on anything we ordered (fish platter and broiled chicken). It was all bread crumb and oil. Salad bar was about as basic as it could get, but had radishes which was a plus. We could not finish the food we had and took it in a box.
Like another reviewer said, everything that is typical “supper club” was missing here. Seems like the supper club is an after thought and the bar is a main priority here.
(If you’re looking for something other than fish, chicken, or red meat, look elsewhere. No other options on the menu.)

We ordered 2 tenderloin sandwiches to go. The good sized sandwich came with pickles and onions and a choice of potato, plus some of their delicious bread. They were done on time, everything were still hot and juicy when my husband got home and they were absolutely what I was craving. I had my leftovers today and the steak cut with a butter knife. They also have outstanding scallops. Highly recommend and they were open on Sunday.

The wait was longer than usual. It seemed like
The staff was a bit short due to the holiday which was fine with us. . We arrived around 6:30. We were seated after 8:15pm. But when our food came out, my girlfriend only received half of what she ordered and what she received wasn’t entirely correct. The waitress was great. She went away and we figured the steak was coming shortly. 10 minutes later, she comes back and says the cook wasn’t going to make the steak she ordered and basically my girlfriend was s.o.l. And the cook refused to make it becuase they were already cleaning up the kitchen. This all transpired a few minutes before 9pm. Not impressed, unsure whether we will be back. Very disappointing.

First timers/out of towners. I didn't understand the order of your food while you're at the bar before you get seated. But it didn't bother me too much. The food and drinks were amazing, and our waitress was awesome. Would recommend to anyone visiting.

Large bar, which is great for waiting. Every time we have gone, the old-fashioned drinks are just off, no matter how you order them. The food is average for a supper club.

My first visit here and I’m sad it took me so long to find this gem. Supper Clubs like this are a dying breed in WI and it’s a shame. Excellent service. Excellent Food. Wonderful, small town supper club atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Can’t wait for my next visit!

Started the evening with 1 bloody and 1 Moscow mule.
They have absolutely no idea how to make a proper mule.
Bloody Mary was spot on.
Decide on some tenderloins.
Meander our way over to the salad bar. Everything there is fresh. I do however wish there was a larger selection of fixin's for your salad.
Steaks arrive. One with twice baked potatoes, and one with potato puffs.
Both steaks are a bit under cooked. Let's be real, I'd rather under cooked than over cooked.
Seasoning and flavor were awesome.
Twice baked was pretty good, but the puffs were the side we liked the most.
Overall we will be back for sure.

They were fairly busy for 6pm on a Tuesday but the wait was pleasant. Place is nice and clean and doesn’t smell musty or dirty like some supper clubs can. The bar area is spacious to wait either at the bar or in some small lower tables.
We came for the salad bar and were a bit underwhelmed. It says Fridays have a limited salad bar and if you asked me what that looked like tonight’s is what I’d say. Lettuce, a few standard veggie toppings, your usual dressings, croutons. Missing things like pickles, carrots, corn or peas, three bean salad, cottage cheese. But it was all fresh and crisp and had the most important things for a supper club: cheese and liver spreads with crackers and hot bacon dressing. They also have two soups nightly, lasagna (flavorful and not sweet like some places) and ham and potato (perfectly thickened but not like glue and not too salty).
I love that they have perch every night. I was a bit skeptical on all the combos being with tenderloin because I don’t like that cut but it was tender yet not mush, perfectly charred and crusty outside but a spot-on medium rare almost to the rare side. Seasoned well and made me a believer in tenderloin. The perch was some of the best I’ve ever had. Large. Moist fillets and cooked to perfection so it was crispy cracker crumb outside but moist and flaky inside. The broasted chicken was crispy and juicy but a bit salty for my taste. Potato puffs were a fun take on potato sides and well seasoned.
Ambiance is what you’d expect, dark wood and “homey” ambiance. Waitresses are fairly attentive and get the job done. It’s also absurdly affordable, we paid more for a burger lunch earlier that day and here we even had leftovers.

Waitresses are always so crabby! Asked one for ketchup & another napkin. Her reply "your not my table but I will get it for you"! Our waitress served our food but never came back till she brought our bill! Ridiculous! Quit if you don't want to serve people & be friendly!!

You can’t sit at a table until you place your order at the bar… but don’t stand in the wrong spot at the bar because you’ll be in the way. Looked up the menu online before I went, prices are literally double in person! Friday night fish fry is $24!!! One of the worse experiences I’ve had at a super club!

Very disorganized can’t just
Get a table like a normal place
Only 2 tables had been seated
Need to wait up by the bar and are ignored
By the disorganized staff waited 10 minutes was never helped finally just left and went to a different restaurant to enjoy our meal
This issue seams to get worse every time we have come here won’t be coming
Anymore because of it
Can’t help but notice same complaints in multiple reviews

Very disappointing. Sat and waited for a table for about an hour and a half with no updates. Drinks, while we waited, were disappointing. One of the more disappointing Old Fashioneds I've had in Wisconsin. The bar tenders were not too friendly, but I don't often hold that against busy bartenders.
Once we did sit down, it was clear the goal was to get us out of there as soon as possible. No one asked if we wanted drinks once we sat down. What's the point of going to a supper club if you can't get a grasshopper? I can't even be sure they had them. They also didn't ask if I was finished (I wasn't) when they took my plate away. My tenderloin was also very clearly medium rare when I asked for medium.
The salad bar was also nothing to rave about, even though that was the thing most recommended to me about this place (we went on Wednesday, so it wasn't even the limited salad bar). There were very few toppings, it was essentially what I might expect from a salad bar at a grocery store. Except they might have had egg. I will say, the people I was with enjoyed the soup from the salad bar.
Overall, they're going through the motions. There's no interest in creating an enjoyable experience here. It did not feel like a supper club, it felt like we crashed an unfriendly neighbor's family dinner.

Kind of annoying and odd that you have to order your meal in the bar area, and your server has to come tell you when your table is ready afterwards. Seems like their way of trying to get people to order from the bar but not everyone cares to sit at the bar and drink! Great food otherwise.

Not impressed at all..
Hour and a half to be seated.. Prime Rib had absolutely NO flavor.. my girlfriend's prime rib, more than half was fat.. my daughter got 2 lobster tails and tenderloin special, the lobster was disgusting and the steak no flavor.
Waitress Never even asked if we needed drinks entire time.. Bartenders super rude and slow. Tons of better restaurants around, don't waste your time and $!!

Classic Midwest super club. Dim lighting, kids at the bar with their parents, large salad bar with soup and cheese spread! The list goes on but really what else can you ask for? The only odd part, and it really isn't a big deal just odd is that you order at the bar before you are seated, then once a table opens up you are seated and served. Did I mention the basket of warm bread? Anyone that enjoys super clubs can't go wrong here.

If you like OLD SCHOOL dining, then this is for you. I think we were the juvis in the crowd. All were retirees. They do have a special way of dining in at the restaurant. First, you have to go to the bar, and the waitress is called for your dinner order. I guess more drinks before dinner. Worth the wait! The food is very good. I had the special...steak, and the wife had the fish. Try the salad bar, limited as it may be.
