The service was good. We ordered the Trucker snack which was very tasty and the Linz Angus Brisket with a mix of lean and fatty meat. For the sides we got Mac and cheese and the Bacardi baked beans. The brisket was tender and had a good Smokey flavor. The Bacardi baked beans were amazing. The wet noodles with some type of white sauce that they passed for Mac and cheese was a hard pass.

The food looks really good, but taste less than average. Tried the brisket, the brisket at Buckys taste better. Drinks were overpriced for how little you get.if you’re just hungry you can eat here, but if you want to taste the food go somewhere else. Also had to pay for seasoning on fries and all my years of living I have never seen something so ridiculous.

Service was great, nice atmosphere, beer was cold. However the BBQ itself is not worth the price. Im from Texas so it may just be the difference between WI and TX style of BBQ but the ribs were dry and tough, the wings were pretty good. The BBQ sauces were glorified ketchup with extra steps and the vinegar one is pure vinegar. The messy fries were just plain fries and the tomato aioli was just ketchup. Overall not a bad place but way overpriced for the quality of meat being served.

We had a really great time at Doc’s. The food was really good. A huge and varied selection of beers to choose from. Service was really good. However, be very cautious if you have any allergies or celiac. The beers/ciders were mislabeled and my wife got served a gluten laden beer, when she specifically ordered a gluten free cider. The numbers on the menus vs what was actually on the taps was not accurate. She was doing a flight and one was not accurate.

This is the epitome of "downtown food" that just disappoints. It's clearly for a conference crowd. I don't usually dine in this area of town and went in after a show. The BBQ is very disappointing. They shared right away that they do "Alabama style" - but I have lived in the South and it's not Alabama Style (which is usually a White mayonnaise BBQ sauce). They used it to justify the bread served with it (instead of say toast), which is fine, but it was very "bleh" white bread.

Overall, just disappointing - but was it gross? No, it was fine.

Came for the brisket. Brisket was dry, even the "fat" version.
Service was mediocre. Never got a water refill, never came back to my table after delivering food until I flagged the waitress down to get my check.
Would not go back.

I had heard good things about Doc's and wanted to give it a try, as the city lacks quality BBQ. I ordered take out for lunch and was quite disappointed with the brisket plate purchased, along with my sides of mac and cheese and baked beans. When I got back to my office with the meal for whuch I just paid $26.70 with tip, I opened the container and was greeted with three cold, uninspired and stingy pieces of brisket, with mac and cheese that tasted like it came out of a box, and baked beans absolutely devoid of character and flavor. I couldn't help but feel as though I had been just robbed after consuming my lunch. The BBQ sauce was the only item worthy of the money I had spent. The service was prompt and curteous enough and the atmosphere lively as I waited for my food. But someone would have to put a gun to my head and force me to eat there again.

Terrible service. Went on a Tuesday, very few people. Waited 20 minutes and no services despite more than 5 servers standing around talking to each other. We asked for someone, 4 servers walked past us, none even acknowledged us. We left without even getting hello.

I'm in town for a conference and stumbled upon this place. Liked it so much that I returned for lunch another day. Honestly it was great food! I ordered the brisket and it was made to perfection. Make sure you ask for a little of both since they have the moist and the not so moist brisket. Can't miss their baked beans! And their coleslaw is too good to pass up! What really surprised me was their full bar. They ha e a good sele tion of bourbons and I found they have many varieties of Old Forester bourbon! If you find yourself in Milwaukee, drop by. You won't be disappointed!

I’m from Indiana so we stop at the Dyer, Indiana location and catch Brett at the festivals in Indiana. Always delicious! In fact Doc’s Smokehouse won 3 out of the 4 awards at the Griffith BBQ and Blues Fest 2025!! CONGRATS 🎉🎉🎉
So my fiancée and I take a ride to Allis Wisconsin to go to the State Fair! Of course we stopped to visit with Brett at his booth. We had the pleasure of meeting his Wife, kids and cousin. We enjoy the Fair… it was huge…
Then today before heading home we stopped at Doc’s Smokehouse in Milwaukee. Jimmy the Manager was very pleasant. Our server Brooklyn was awesome and the food was delicious!
Thanks for putting all the love into you delicious brisket and all the rest of the food. The dirty rice has a little kick (for me anyways) but it’s outstanding a must try!
Thanks for the hospitality Brett, Jimmy and Kevin and Crew!
PS the PEACH Tea cocktail is my favorite.

If this is the Doc's at the Wisconsin State Fair today, stay away from the brisket unless you always have sauce on your smoked brisket. Tender enough, but SO DRY. Disappointed because I haven't eaten all day and paid $18 for less than mediocre. I never use sauce on my own brisket and it's nice and juicy always, point as well as the flat.

Nice atmosphere. Our service was slow for our big group so it took an hour and a half. But there were 20 of us and they had just opened. The food was fine/good. I like having sauces on the table. I prefer more seasoning and flavor in my brisket and the serving was small, but I'm picky when it comes to BBQ. I loved the dirty tots. That was the best part of the meal. I think the grilled cheese sandwich with smoked meat on it looked better than what I had. The appetizer wings were delicious.

The only thing good about this place was the waitress. The food was by far the worst bbq I ever had. For the price we paid for 2 plates and a drink was outrageous. The brisket was entirely fat and no meat to it. The ribs were extremely tough. The potato salad was hard diced potatoes in a soupy mayo and the macaroni was ok but the noodles were extremely hard. I will continue to eat bbq off of a food truck before I continue to eat at these outrageous bbq establishments that have dissapointed me everytime. This was added to the top of the list and I'm sad about it.

Service was anything but pleasant! The service i received was very unprofessional from megan and i think her name is Amanda? They were both helping us and being very short and slow… the food came out very cold as if it was just sitting on the counter. I would not recommend coming here to anyone they are all more worried about hitting their vapes (megan and amanda) than helping paying customers. Wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy… I also could hear a man I think he was the owner being very disrespectful to his employees in the kitchen. My family and I will never be going back, simply just terrible.

No wait time, atmosphere was really nice and chill. I ordered beef brisket (burnt ends meal) baked beans, wanted dirty rice but they were out so I settled for Mac & Cheese with a bowl of chili. The wait was about 2 mins not bad. Brisket wasn’t even warm room temp at most same for Mac & Cheese informed our waitress she took our meal back and sent out a new batch that to was warm temp hot brisket and Mac & cheese the chili was horrid also definitely a disappointment. I just ate some of it and took the rest home to feed to my dog. And it was really cold inside of there with a sweatshirt on. I wouldn’t return or recommend.

Was excited to try this place on Friday evening. Good atmosphere with great selection of beers. The meats weren’t amazing, very dry overall. Briskets were so thin and dry and pulled porks the same. Sauces were delicious and sadly the best thing on the plate was collard greens and baked beans. Hoping it was just a bad cut of the meat. $28 for two dry meats plate was slightly disappointing.

Overly salty food (tots included). Mac and cheese was pitiful. Watery, close to 0 cheese, and not even the noodles they use in past reviews. Clearly they were unprepared for this convention. Nobody else in the building had eaten theirs either - I looked around. Ribs were okay. Brisket was okay. Almost none of our food was warm, it all came out room temp at best. Waiters didn't seem to like their job. Root beer float was sad. Going here for a beer? I'm sure that's fine. But food is apparently not their forte. Seek anywhere else.

If you are from anywhere in the south, you will be super disappointed. 😅 Out of everything, the Mac n cheese was the worst…in..Wisconsin? The state known for….cheese? There was no flavor, and not sure what the cheese situation was aside from lack thereof. Meats were overly salty in my opinion. Tots were about avg. Not missing much.

Was excited to try this place and ordered delivery via door dash, as that was the only option. Not the drivers fault but both our sides were omitted which considerably impacted the meal size for two gloriously sized men. They also forgot the BBQ sauce which in many BBQ circles would be unimaginable. Offered a $20 refund but really missed the mark for my first time.

Worst ribs I’ve had in my life. Dry chewy and sub par flavor penetrated the meat. Shame on myself for not cooking at home! Flavorless Mac and cheese and I ordered dirty fries and didn’t get them. I got plain fries and was charged for dirty fries. Maybe I’m wrong for assuming I would get more than a plain fry. The ribs are filled with these glue like tubes I had this happen to me once from a horrible cut I’m not sure what it is. I will stick to what I know from now on. Only recommendations from my fellow moms who can cook, and cook WELL. This could be a one off fluke of a bad rack and a mistake from someone who bagged my order. It just ruined my night so I felt the need to share. In this economy paying for less than yummy food (nearly inedible) is a slap in the face.

They seem to be struggling. Atmosphere was lacking, service was inconsistent, and the food quality was pretty poor for what we hoped to get. They offer bread and pickles on request, but if you don't request it it isn't mentioned. They'd do better to offer those to everyone and reduce the price on meals by not giving the lackluster sides

Recently stopped by here before an Admirals game with two friends and we all shared the Docs Meat Coma and had PLENTY left over. Portions were absolutely massive, and the flavour of the food was delicious. Had that wonderful smokey BBQ thing going on, seasoned perfectly. The brisket was a little on the dry side, but everything else was juicy and tender. We got the Mac and the beans as our sides, the Mac was creamy and a nice way to cut the tanginess from the BBQ’d meats, however the beans were just alright according to the other two (I’m not a fan on beans).
Atmosphere was really nice, mood lighting, pretty dim so it was kinda hard to see but you’re not there to look around, you’re there to eat, right? Place was really clean too, and the tables were stocked with condiments and paper towel!
Our server was a little… I’m not sure what the word is for it, I’m not trying to be rude at all when I say this, she just was a bit standoffish? But she warmed up a bit by the end of our meal, I’m just chalkin it up to having a bad day maybe, and that’s totally fair, we’re human. I appreciate that she put in a lil more effort as the night went on.
All in all, it was a good time and the food was great, would definitely hit this spot up again!

Went for a late lunch on a Friday, not many people were there. Server was nice, but wasn't aware of the happy hour, nor what beers qualified for happy hour (just one light beer, which seems not very transparent and pretty strange to me). To be fair, they gave us the happy hour prices after I pointed we were directed to non-happy hour beers after I had confirmed happy hour was applicable. But at first, all the server said after delivering the check was, "Those beers don't apply to happy hour, sorry about that."

The brisket was overcooked and had very little smoke flavor. If I closed my eyes and was in a different context, I don't know that I would have guessed it was smoked brisket. Got the 2 meat platter and received two thin slices of brisket. The pulled pork was fine.

The beans. I've never had beans in a restaurant that tasted so much like Busch's canned beans, that unmistakable tinny taste. Like, really and truly, Busch's canned beans. I don't make this comparison lightly.

Fries were soggy. Cheese curds were way oversalted but I could see how some people might actually like that. The overwhelmingly positive reviews of this restaurant befuddle me.

On the positives, nice location near the station and it was clean and fun decor.

Service and ambiance were good. The food is a no for me. All of the food was bland, the meat didn't have any smokey flavor and lacked seasoning and so did the sides. The Texas fries were alright, skimpy on the meat, the cheese sauce and jalapeño made it edible. The brisket plate with slaw, mac n cheese was extremely bland, brisket overcooked and tough. Presentation looked like leftovers. I couldn't eat the sides as all. I had high hopes but it's a no for me.

The atmosphere and service were great. We got fried pickles which were good, the brisket fries or whatever they're called and those were good. Unfortunately, from the two orders of 2 meat plates, zero of the ribs were edible, and the pulled pork came with a giant fat chunk and one totally inedible piece. This wasn't just hearsay, I tried it myself and my teeth wouldn't go through it. They looked good enough, but nope. The sausage (hot link) was tasty. The wings were crispy, and I only had one that was very very dry, and one that was very fatty. The rub on the wings is good, but i wanted more. With no sauce, they needed more. And they were not tossed in the rub. The wings were plated and the rub sprinkled over the top, so some of them were flavorless chicken meat.

We didn't send anything back, so to be fair, they may have tried to fix it. But the wait staff, though very helpful, appeared to be dead tired (we arrived about two hours before close). I'm guessing they had a long day and we had no plans on making it worse. Anyway, nothing here was worth ordering again except maybe an appetizer.

Not only did he recommend the perfect BBQ combo, but his timing with drink refills was so spot-on, it felt like he had BBQ superpowers. Frank balanced top-tier service with a dash of humor, making our meal even better than we imagined. If you’re lucky enough to have Frank as your waiter, prepare yourself for amazing food and a side of legendary service. Cheers, Frank—you’re a smokehouse superstar!

Big open place with high tops and low tables. We got the pulled pork, turkey, brisket, macaroni and fries. The turkey was a like dry, the pork was cooked perfectly, not very flavorful but was great with bbq sauce. The brisket was the best though and we are tough brisket critics. Sides were decent, nothing special but not bad.

I am my husband we’re going to a show for our anniversary and looking for a place to eat. We love our smoked meats and We came across Doc’s Smokehouse! First impression when we walked inside is the place smelled amazing. We were seated and greeted by our amazing waiter Frank, who explained everything to us. From their style cooking to the choices of meats, we chose to order the three meat plate and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of meat and the flavor. There was no need for sauce. Everything was amazing. Great service from Frank!!! We will definitely be returning.

We went to Docs Smokehouse our first night in Milwaukee on a Sunday night. A lot of restaurants didn’t open until Tuesday. My husband got the burnt ends and dirty rice as a side and said both were fantastic. I think they only serve them on Sundays. I had the brisket sandwich and fries which was also really good. You can choose between about 5 different sauces and all were good. The pickles are also good. We definitely made a good choice to come here!

Update: Two years later. Still a great place w/ wonderful service & drinks. No more chicken or brisket chili which is a bummer but I still highly recommend!!

It's a must if you come to Milwaukee! Over 60 beers on tap. An incredible amount of liquor. Fantastic food. A+++ Brisket chili was the best I've ever had. Even the white meat chicken was amazingly tender! Service best in class for this type of restaurant. Highly recommend!!

I was in town for a conference, staying at the Hyatt. The restaurant was right across the street so if you're in downtown or at the Convention Center, this place is super convenient.
Far as the restaurant goes, the staff here is amazing and super friendly. They make sure you're taken care of.
The brisket was fine, and the sides were ok. I may have caught them on an off day, I also judge bbq off of KC and Texas BBQ I've had.
The atmosphere here is cool, perfect is you have a big group. I would recommend if you're downtown and looking for traditional BBQ.

The barbecued meats are of course the specialty and are very good. The sides are not the greatest but not bad. The appetizers all look great; we had the fried pickles and those were well done and very tasty.

Great food and even greater service! Our table ordered a variety of things starting off with the Texas and Alabama fries and ended off with a variety of meats since we ordered the judging table and the three meat plate. The brisket was tender and juicy. Their special consisting of burnt ends is by far some of the best I have ever had. The wings included in the judging table meal were juicy with them being flash fried so the skin was crispy and extremely flavorful due to the seasonings they used. The hot links were so juicy with the most perfect snap. The appetizer fries were scrumptious with a very generous portion.

Now that I have a baby to consider, I am extremely pleased that they had a changing table in the women’s bathroom, which I never thought was a blessing until now. The place is huge, yet inviting, with both high top and low top tables for those with strollers and a bar for those without strollers. The staff was very welcoming and made the experience 100 times better. Doc’s is a great place and would definitely recommend it for anyone craving barbecue.

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich to go. It was just ok- dry and cold. (I came at the pick up time and only walked across the street to my hotel). When it posted to my account, they had more than doubled what I paid for the tip (I had already left 20%, but they wanted more…?). I called and spoke with a manager to get it corrected as I can’t get reimbursement from my job without the correct amount matching the receipt and statement. They did nothing after promising it would be fixed. Check what they post to your account!!!

Stopped by on what turned out to be a very busy day, and as soon as we walked in, we learned they had already run out of pork and ribs. My parents and I made some substitutions but changed our minds a few times. Throughout it all, Matt was incredibly patient and never showed any signs of irritation. We decided to sit at the bar and have a drink while waiting for our to-go order. The bartender made excellent drinks and provided top-notch service. While we were waiting, a young lady, who was one of the servers, found and returned some money my mom had dropped—a truly commendable act of honesty.

Later, while talking to the bartender, she mentioned that more meat wasn't available, and shortly after, Matt came back to confirm the bad news himself. Despite the shortage, Matt took care of us, ensuring we were well looked after from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. Thank you for hiring such great talent! The team's dedication to service and hospitality truly made a difference in our experience.

The staff are friendly and attentive and they have a wide variety of beer. However, the brisket was mediocre at best. It was quite dry and lacked much flavor. The mac and cheese was lukewarm and tasted synthetic, nothing like you’d imagine from a place selling “southern BBQ.”

If you’re looking for a place to grab a drink and watch the game, this is it. I wouldn’t recommend their food though.

Doc’s Smokehouse is where barbecue dreams come true. The brisket is so smoky and juicy, it should come with a warning label: "May cause spontaneous joy." And don’t even get me started on their sauces—richer than a billionaire's bank account. If you leave Doc’s Smokehouse without a satisfied grin and a messy shirt, you did it wrong!

I left a 5 star review a year ago. We came today and it was not good! They poured beer for me and it looked like a huge glob of mold in it and that happens due to not cleaning your tap lines. The manager replaced it right away and apologized. The meat came out so full of fat(brisket) and the Mac n cheese was over cooked. I’m leaving my original review below this updated one. We won’t be back…

Went to the location in Milwaukee after a Brewer’s game. Ordered a 2 meat plate with rib tips and brisket, Cole slaw and Mac and cheese. Everything was bad, brisket was 50%+ fat, rib tips were gristle covered with BBQ sauce, Cole slaw was supposed to be vinegar based, was drowning in mayo, Mac and cheese were limp noodles with a little tasteless cheese sauce.
I don’t understand the ratings at all. Staff was nice or I’d give 0 stars. Go anywhere else for BBQ.

When DOC's first arrived on my radar years ago it was amazing. Great sauces, fantastic sides.
But as time went on the quality seemed to decline while hte prices went up.

The Bartender was friendly, conversational and gave good service, though the appetizer was a littl epricey for stale crackers a single link, and the cheese.

The price is quite high now. So High that when the brisket has a spam like quality, and is dry, and not fatty at all - not even the request moist/fatty seemed to matter.

Meats at BBQ should never require BBQ sauce for flavor, but especially for moistness. It was like biting into a desert.

The service was mid. Our waitstaff disappeared and the manager was eyeballing us while pacing. I am sure at one point he heard me say "Where is our waitress?" and he definitely saw us looking around but apparently the clues that we wanted our waitress were too difficult to decipher.

Between parking, downtown traffic, the increased price and decreased quality, and terrible service. I would like to thank DOC's commerce BBQ for encouraging my friends and I to explore other BBQ places.

Best Cole slaw I've ever had. Creamy, dill pickle slaw was unreal complement to the BBQ. It is absolutely made fresh, has a perfect tang/sweet balance. This slaw is destination dining for anyone who loves pickles. I'm now on a mission to replicate it because I want to eat it every day.

Great smoky meats - we had brisket, pulled pork and ribs. All delicious. Bama fries were exactly the fatty-indulgence you think - white cheese sauce much nicer than "nacho' kind.

Server was great - present but not annoying. Manager stopped by for a check too. Nice work overall. Only way they could have done more is to have given me that Cole slaw recipe. 😆 no, seriously, it is that good.

Huge dining space would be great for groups, lost a star because Faux News was on the TV by us. Probably because of the RNC but come on now.🙄 that's just not restaurant appropriate.

Would love to explore the whiskey selection but was impressed by beers on tap, too. Great place. Go here asap. And then take me next time.

Being from SC, where the BBQ of Rodney Scott is legendary, and now living in TX where BBQ is king, this BBQ here is horrible. Only went here because it was located within the hotel and it was too late to walk elsewhere. The pull pork was favorless, the ribs were undercooked and I had to put them in the microwave for a few minutes to finish cooking them, because light blood ran from them. The baked beans were absolutely disgusting. Who puts vinegar in their baked beans, it had an overpowering indescribable taste. I have never had baked beans so awful in my 50yrs of living and I love baked beans. The coleslaw had vinegar and a ton of onions and it was gross. They ruined two of my favorite foods. The macaroni and cheese needed flavor as well, so I added a pinch of salt. The noodles needed to cook a little longer, as well, as they were a tad undercook. The BBQ sauces were not good. I tasted the Caroline sauce, which is definitely not Carolina sauce. That is not how we do it in the Carolinas. The house blend wasn't any better. I wasted $33 on inedible food.

My co-worker who also ordered food from this establishment also complained and was disappointed in her food, which consisted of ribs, mac and cheese, and collard greens.

However, we did receive good service from the hostess, who took our order, and the bar tender when interacted with while waiting on our food orders.

I got the 2 meat plate consisting of brisket (lean/fatty) and smoked chicken. Wasn't impressed with either. I got two sides those being brisket chili and mac and cheese. Chili brisket was nice with a little heat while the mac and cheese was not good or bad. Plate came with 4 BBQ sauces. I'm personally more of a sweet BBQ sauce fan myself as all the sauces had a little heat to them. Service was great for my to go order.

Coming from a Texan I must admit how amazing this bbq actually was.

The ribs had just the right amount of bite to them. They were perfectly seasoned and very juicy. The brisket was basically how brisket should be made. Tender and not overdone on the seasoning. You can actually taste the quality of the meat.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the chicken was honestly the best part to me, thanks to that Alabama white sauce. I took one bite of the chicken with the sauce and I didn’t stop until it was gone.

Can’t forget about the mac and cheese. It was honestly very good.

I really liked the look of the place, as well as how polite my waiter was. I highly recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for some phenomenal bbq.

I have been looking for some really good barbque for a long time and with this being my first time trying it, I have to say I was very, very dissatisfied. I had my mouth set for some Texas fries with the brisket and barbque sauce. I had soggy fries, a tiny portion of meet, hardly any sauce. It was horrible I didn't even eat it. I also got something for my mom as well. She had the rib plate with mac and cheese and greens. The ribs were so dry, extra fatty and very tough, no love and no flavor. The mac and cheese was so blann. The greens were so spicy and sweet and they look greasy. Everybody doesn't have the BEST barbque.

This was the third time but second year ordering the Holiday Meal. Last year and this year I ordered the Thanksgiving meal and this year I also ordered the Christmas meal. This year for Thanksgiving I ordered the larger meal that feeds 10-12 people and I had left overs for a week. For Christmas I ordered the smaller meal that feeds 7-9 people and I'm still working on the leftovers 2 days later. The smoked ham and the smoked turkey was perfectly seasoned and was not dry at all which can happen. The sides were perfect as well. String beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing were all cooked to perfection and everyone loved the taste and texture. I'm putting DOCS BBQ on my short list for regular meals during the year so I can get to know their whole menu. I also took the time to talk to the bar tender about the wide arrays of whiskeys. I am really looking forward to testing out the many different whiskeys they offer. I definitely give the Holiday Menu a solid 10/10 and can't wait to get back to try out some more options. The staff are also fantastic. I love DOCs BBQ
