I got there and had to wait in the lobby area for a very long time. It was a Sunday night and hardly busy. I got there 35 mins later than my friends so they had ordered and let the server know I was going to be late. As I get there the server is handing out food and ignores me. Didn’t ask me if I wanted water, didn’t greet me. I wait for nearly 10 mins hoping he’ll come back. Saw him go outside on his phone at one point. The table needed silverware and straws and I needed to order. Finally had to go find someone and asked if they could get our server. We watched him roll his eyes and huff and puff then come over to us. Took my order, when he came back to give my food to me he didn’t give me silverware or straw for my drink, I had to go ask someone. Then he asked if we wanted split checks, when we said yes he again rolled his eyes and huffed and puffed. He’s lucky gratuity was included on our checks. Wondering if he acted that way because he was ensured a tip? Seems like a flaw. He was so rude and terrible at his job. Food was fine.

we're visiting from out of town on a bike tour and decided to eat at don's tv repair & speakeasy because it looked cool from the google overview and was in the same neighborhood where we were to meet friends for karaoke later in the evening. we stepped in at about 6:45 on a wednesday and were told it would be a 45 minute wait for 2 to sit at the bar which was a little insane to me it being a wednesday night in early october but whatever, we weren't in a terrible rush. they asked for my number and i got a text from open table saying they would alert me when our table was ready. that was 14 hours ago, lol. i guess the food is so good that no one wanted to leave! after waiting an hour we wound up eating elsewhere. oh, also there was nowhere outside to lock our bikes up. yer a corner lot, get a bike rack.
cielito lindo around the corner on 2nd was great, though! they sat us immediately and we were fed and out the door in like 20 minutes and the food was good and the prices were decent!

Don's TV & Repair Speakeasy was such a cool experience. We brought our daughter here to celebrate her birthday with huge, delicious milkshakes. It was fun to tell her about the "retro" stuff from our childhood all over the place. Our server Mikey was very friendly, attentive, and explained their specials well. An awesome experience as a whole.

Food is good. Could have been better. The Atmosphere is cool and very nostalgic. The price is a little high IMHO. And the gratuity thing they add to the bill for the kids working the door vs. For the servers is kinda weird.

Arrived at 4:15 pm for a friday evening Birthday group of five. Reserved our group thru Opentable reservation app. The restaurant was already full. We made it right under the $5 old fashioned drink happy hour. Decent drink for the price. Simple limited menu burgers, breakfast items, fried chicken, and a variety of appetizers. We order 4 appetizers tater tots, bourbon donutholes, 2 onions rings. The donut holes were comped for birthday 🎂. Our group ordered 2 naughty smash burgers, 1 Don's fried chicken sandwich, 2 friday fish fry, 4 sides apps and a couple custom milk shakes, one was a boozy shake. We were pleased with all the food. Bill with tip averaged $40 per person including 1 alcoholic drink for each of us. Atmosphere was fun, very pop culture 60s-90s. A place to take 1st timers or visitors. Service was good. Noise could be a factor for some.

I took my 12-year-old daughter and 1-year-old to this place for something different for lunch. We enjoyed the build your own milkshakes and angel burger.
To be completely honest when they served us a burger I was a little disappointed because it looked very average but once I took a bite; I completely changed my tune. The cheese sauce is amazing and there's just something in the burger that makes it a lot better than the average burger joint.
I highly recommend getting a reservation as the place can fill up quickly and it's not that big. I also want to point out that they will charge a 20% service fee that is not the tip for the waitress. I think this is extremely steep but I understand the upkeep for a place like this.
Our waitress Emma was an absolute delight and had a lot of patience explaining VHS and VCRs to my girls. 😂

Whaooo!!!

The only thing we didn't enjoy on our visit was how warm it was inside. Not sure if that's the norm or not since it was our first visit, but it made it less comfortable. We got shakes which we're outstanding and the service was excellent!

Terrible food. Overpriced George Webb burger. Fake cheese. It’s all about the shtick here. Skip it. Oh, and they had a service charge without telling you about it. It’s just on the bill so they can pay higher wages. What?

Loved the idea of the speakeasy, and having to get a code to get in. The food was extremely overpriced and not very good. The presentation was great, taste, not so much. Although the pork belly was delicious, the venison meatloaf was dry, and the ketchup on top was too spicy to enjoy any other flavor. Our served was in the kitchen preparing food, and while she checked on the tables around us multiple times, she neglected our. We had to ask for our bill. Atmosphere was 10/10. The look, the vibe, was all wonderful.

Getting in you need a password, cool, easy enough. We sat. In our party is one with special needs. We went during lunch thinking there would be less people. Sides with a meal are a la carte. They wanted to kick us out until they found out a member of our party was special needs. Then they gave us a dessert on the house. No where on their website or menu states there is a 20% service charge on your bill until you get it. For what? We had to ask 3 times for our drinks then finally getting them. Not a pleasurable experience at all. Was super excited to try this but sadly I don't think I'll be back nor refer anyone. Sucks.

I saw this place online and it seemed cool. But this place has no air conditioning. I got a burger and it was really nothing special. Everything was la cart. On top of that they charge a 20% service feed. Come to find out it is list on the drink side of there menu at the bottom of the page. Furthermore after you pay they still ask for a tip.

Just had dinner here and asked for the 20% “service charge” to be removed and it was. They said that’s to make sure the staff have a livable wage. As a business owner, you should be paying them a livable wage, not me as a customer. Raise your prices 20% if you need to and let people decide with their attendance and orders but surprising people at check out is a consistent issue in these reviews. I also don’t want to hear it’s on the website or anywhere else I didn’t look at prior to coming in.
We will NEVER be back because of this. We feel it’s not a morale business practice and I doubt those staff are getting that 20% service charge in addition to their minimum wage (and tips if customers still choose to do so). If so, provide some proof or if I ask your staff they should be able to say they are being paid more than minimum wage plus tips and they can’t.
I’m happy to tip for service provided but telling me there is a service charge of 20% and then I should do another 20% tip is ridiculous. And having your staff try to explain it when it’s not their place since it was a business decision is very unfortunate. They shouldn’t be put in that place.
The bathtub mimosa drink is gross. Just a side note to anyone ordering. Everything else was just ok. Go to Kopp’s if you need a good burger, fries and shake, not here.

overpriced everything, and they auto charge a 20% tip and don't give an itemized receipt to hide it so that you tip again on top of it. This is the main reason for my 1 star. It is a scummy practice and I will not be returning because of it. they can say whatever they want about insuring consistent pay for the staff but they could do the same without deceiving customers by raising their prices by 20 percent and just paying there people adequately but I don't think they will because who would actually pay $16 for a 1/4lb burger that was ok at best. (not sure what the actual patty weight is when I asked the waitress she said about the size of McDonald's and that seems about right slightly smaller than a 1/4 lb patty from there but it was also denser so I think it equals out)
waitress was nice but was a bit quiet so it was hard to hear her over the music
paper straws where interesting I guess
the cheese curds are very good but very greasy I don't think the batch is got where drained enough
they don't have lettuce for burgers which is weird to me

Brought my daughters here as a lark…it seemed like a fun idea I was expecting more of a novelty than a legitimate restaurant…well, I was wrong…not only was the speakeasy extremely fun…the food was really good…plus 10 cent martinis…our only mistake was not making a reservation…so we had to wait for a table…but there are a number of bars in the area so it wasn’t wasted time…the location is small so a reservation is definitely recommended…but the staff was outstanding from the person in the repair shop getting you to say the password to the kitschy tv and video game decor to the server you was very attentive it was a great experience and the prices weren’t crazy…we had a burger with a martini, a breakfast burrito with a chocolate shake and a chicken sandwich with a soda and all of it was devoured…such a unique experience…

Friends had been recommending this place for ages - so glad we finally came to try it out! The food was delicious (I got the Scrambler and ate almost the whole thing - oh man did that hit the spot - and my girlfriend got the Don's breakfast platter and the potato pancakes were perfect) and the Homicidal Maniac cocktail was amazing. Overall good food and cool atmosphere. Just be aware that you need to make a reservation or they rush you out, I was told we need to leave by 7 when we arrived at 5:50pm. Additionally they add 20% on your bill for the servers, that's not gratuity-- to quote the server, to "make sure they have a liveable wage". Our bill was nearly $200 for 5 people. For burgers and shakes. I don't know... if your looking for a cost friendly place this isn't it.

We have been here many times, and it was always well worth it. Today we went, and it just wasn’t the same. Menu has change significantly, with lower quality items only. They used to have amazing biscuits and gravy. The burger was tiny and not good at all, and the secret was actually pretty bad, and seemed like just melted American cheese.
We love going out and supporting local places, but this place just seems like tourist trap now and not for the locals.

Don’s TV Repair and Speakeasy is a 10 out of 10 experience. We recently surprised my daughter for her birthday and our dining experience was amazing!
The booking was easy and the website allowed for patrons to view the menu before dining. Thoroughly explaining that a 20% tip was added to all guest checks.
The entryway was fun and our host made us say the password before entering the Speakeasy. Making it feel so authentic.
Once we were seated we were positively overwhelmed with the decor, the menu, and the service provided by our waiter, Michael. He guided us through our experience and allowed us to choose some VHS videos in the TV behind our table. It was so fun to peruse through the restaurants eclectic video collection. Truly an interactive experience.
The food and drinks were amazing! We ordered a crock pot old fashioned, a bubbly mimosa in a bathtub (with a keepsake rubber duck), and some of the best cheese curds, onion rings, and burgers!
Our celebration was unforgettable. The vibe of the retro diner was perfect not only because of the abeyance but because the staff were all so kind and attentive. Shout out to all the staff! From the front door to the back of the house kitchen staff. Thank you all!
Don’t skip out on this fun experience. You won’t be disappointed!

This place is so cool! Kudos to the owners that put this place together, it looks like an old repair shop, but then you see the 80s posters and props and you get the feeling that you're really going to like it there. Those feelings are confirmed when you enter through the door (if you made reservations, you better know the password to get your table!), so much nostalgia! Music of the 80s and 90s ppaying, VHS tapes, Sega Genesis systems and games, old TVs, a tape rewinder and more are there for your eyes if you appreciate it as much as I did. The food even reminded me of the 80s, very good and flavourful burger and tots made to perfection. Then the big selling point for them, I think, their shakes. These giant desserts are served in big classic shake glasses and they are incredible! There's booze in them too, if you want that option. I had the Bowser's Brownie and not only did it have brownie pieces in the shake, it also came with a big brownie square! Talk about sugar heaven! The service was incredible and the staff was very friendly. We stopped here first before we started our day and it was the highlight of our time there. Definitely go check this place out!

$14 for 1 single patty mushy burger (slightly better then a McDonald cheeseburger). Fish was not fresh at all. Order was made wrong twice. Maybe we just got a bad cook but I will not be back here again. Plus 20% is added to the bill. $56 for a burger, fish fry, and shake that was not good. 4/10. Seem liked everyone working was under-the-influence 🍃. Half the tv’s were off too. I really had high hopes for this place.

This place is a lot of fun—like a nostalgic time capsule for parents! Kids around 10 and up would probably enjoy it too. It could also make for a great date night spot, especially with their creative and fun cocktail menu. The milkshakes are fantastic, and the atmosphere has a lively, retro diner vibe. The food is solid, with good burgers and chicken sandwiches, though don’t expect many (if any) healthy options. It’s all about the classic comfort food experience here.
One thing to note: there's a 20% service fee automatically added to the bill. Since it goes directly to the staff, we didn’t mind—it’s about what we would’ve tipped anyway. However, the table next to us seemed a bit put off by it, so it’s good to be aware ahead of time.

Quiet little 80s themed dinner. It's a little small however had great food! We would go back however when it was time to pay we were told they added 20% to our bill for a "Service charge" that we were never made aware of them another 20% for a tip so a $15 burger will now cost you 20% plus what ever tip you give them. This is the only reason we will not be returning. Other than that service was awesome and food was great. Sad to see a 20% service charge that will keep us and others from returning. 😡

I can tell a lot are new and shy but they’re nice. Overall I would give this three stars but I do enjoy the cheese fries. Even if it was mediocre, it was a cute experience.

Layla was friendly, kind and professional. The food was incredibly delicious. I can't recommend this place enough. I ordered the naughty butter burger and my wife ordered the friday fish fry, both were literally to die for. The burger was Juicy and cooked to perfection, the fish fry was crunchy and delicious, and the horseradish potato pancakes were our favorite part. We also ordered the cheesy fries which were a total throwback to my childhood. For drinks, my wife ordered the Bowser's Brownie shake and I ordered the Shamrocked Shake and both were unique and more delicious than expected. You MUST try Don's TV & Repair Speakeasy whether you're just visiting Milwaukee or you live here. It was worth the trip, that's for sure. Thanks again to Layla for the excellent service!
May 3rd update
We visited again tonight, Megan K was our server, she did an amazing job and was very friendly, helpful and gave us some information we did not previously know. Don's TV & Repair charges a 20% service fee to all customers to give their front of house a better wage. I FULLY SUPPORT THIS! As a union member, I recognize the importance of all workers having the ability to earn a liveable wage. Keep up the great work, Don's TV & Repair! Don't go changing. As for the food, it was amazing as usual. My wife ordered the Don's Chicken Sammie with onion rings and a chocolate shake. All were delectable. I ordered the Don's Naughty Angel Burger with Horseradish potato pancakes and a Sega Genesis shake to boot. I can't recommend this place enough and I hope it stays here forever. It is a very unique place! The atmosphere is neat, with several old tube TV's playing some of the old classics on VHS. The food was good and came out quickly! I had the salted caramel milk shake, it was excellent! Pricess are a little high, but you do get a neat experience there. Also they do add on a 20% tip. I wasn't informed until we asked for the check.
All in all it was a good place. We will be back!

Could be a good concept, food and drinks were way overpriced, a $15 burger was just a $5 burger anywhere else! Didn’t even come with a side like fries, or tots! Way overrated!!

We were seated close to closing after we were told we were too late. After telling them we just wanted to get an ice cream drink and it was our anniversary, they graciously seated us.
The drinks were delicious and they even brought us a complimentary dessert.
Cute idea and decor inside.

Finally got to Don's and glad we made it. Just had drinks but plenty of people were eating around us on a Saturday mid-afternoon.
Fun, time-period inspired decor, music and TV.
Will come back to eat in order to get the full experience. Definitely worth the visit.

Over the years, we have visited Don’s restaurant on several occasions, and the food quality has consistently been excellent.
However, our recent visit revealed a significant change in the establishment’s offerings. It appears that either new owners have taken control or there has been a modification to the menu, resulting in a reduction in the variety of choices available.
For instance, the cheese fries were now presented as French fries topped with a slice of regular cheese. Additionally, the burger we ordered was not as flavorful as it used to be.
Furthermore, the service, which was once impeccable, has been compromised. On two separate occasions, they served me drinks that were not the ones I had ordered.
It is important to note that Don’s also adds a 20% service fee to all orders.
My wife stomach wasn’t feeling too well after we ate at Dons.
Again, this doesn’t seem to be the same Dons as we once remembered.

This place isn’t the same! They couldn’t even get our drink order right! The food was so bad that we couldn’t even eat it. This used to be our favorite place and since when do you add 20% to the bill to pay your employees? Will NEVER come back!

I came there on a Wednesday night, and it was $1 burger. It was a good experience from the speakeasy to the food. The only improvement I would suggest is the service, especially if there's going to be a 20% charge. It was hard to get our waitress attention. For whatever reason, the water pitcher was only filled halfway and already gone when we poured it in our cup. There were no water refills. We were halfway done with the food, and the drink (soda) came out late. However, I was able to get another staff member to assist in checking out. I would have ordered more food, but the wait was just too long, so we ended up leaving with disappointment.

First time at Dons TV repair restaurant and let me tell you it is absolutely fun. It's perfect for a nice 80's throw back date or just fun time with the kids. From their amazing burgers to their fruity pebble waffles this is by far an amazing family friendly experience. The service was fast, simple and they made sure we knew/understood what food there was and more. Thank you to my amazing server Conner.Don's is definitely on top of my list of places to go back to. Oh before I finish make sure to ask for an "ice cold 7up" before you head on back.

Book ahead and get the password-Don’s is worth it.
Don’s TV & Repair Speakeasy nails the vibe from the moment you walk in-retro TV repair shop meets cozy brunch hangout. It was packed when we arrived, but the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our big group, and it paid off.
The menu has range-everything from breakfast favorites to a solid fish fry. The shakes were a standout for me, and the rest of the crew couldn’t stop talking about the burgers.
The decor is a love letter to analog nostalgia: vintage tapes, old TVs, franchise merch, and even video games scattered about. It’s not just a themed spot—the food lives up to the aesthetic.
Definitely going back next time, but with a reservation. Trust me-this one’s not a hidden gem anymore.

Very disappointing burgers (small with limited toppings and weird “queso” sauce) at unconscionable prices with obsequious service. We paid over $60 for two small burgers, a side of tots, one soda (very small glass), and one cocktail. All the food was oversalted. The bill here seems to be going mostly to the overwhelming décor of vintage media. We could have been to Culver’s three times for that much. If you don’t want to go to a chain, I recommend Dairyland in 3rd St Market Hall.

Almost positive we were overcharged… but claim we weren’t. 2 $11drinks, 1 $7.50burger an $10.50 burger, and a 7up= $72? *Even with 18% gratuity added it shouldn’t have been $72 prices don’t add up
Called and said that it was correct. And everyone was seated on top of us🙄 with plenty of spaces elsewhere. I should have took pictures

First time experiencing this establishment and came across a few issue. Parking!, Handicap isn’t good even though I had people with me you guided me through it. It feels a bit clustered like a small sport bar I’ll just say. To me it isn’t a place really for kids just how the place looks inside. The menu pretty pricey. But the food I’ve ordered was pretty fulfilling with the shakes amazing! I might give them another try for their breakfast, other than that give them a try for yourself. We had a great waitress that was a 🙏🏾👍🏾. But if you’re in a wheelchair be prepared for the steps! The walk-in old school Tv theme was awesome to see brought back memories of my grandparents house Lol

, 186 dollars later for 5 cheeseburgers, 3 milkshakes, and had to order a side of cheese fries, sodas, onion rings and cheese curds as they didn’t come with a 13 dollar burger! The waiter told us the 20 percent mandatory gratuity was for the hostess and kitchen staff and didn’t patronize him! Amazing burgers and food, but not 186 dollars plus tip! Go to Sullys! 4 of had brunch on Saturday and had an awesome time! Just loved the place. "I'd like an ice cold 7up."
The décor was my favorite part. The servers were great. The boozy shakes are perfect. sweet and delicious but you can certainly tell that they're adult beverages :)
The only issue I encountered was with the size of the beef patty on my otherwise delicious "Naughty Brunch Burger" It tasted great but the burger patty was comparable in size to a McDonald's original hamburger. Overall a great place. You must check it out if you're in the area!

It was cute inside! I enjoyed the old TV theme and gremlins all over. We were seated fast. I got a salted caramel milkshake which I enjoyed! I got the butter burger and to me it was a normal burger. Nothing special! $11 for a small burger was disappointing. All sides were extra. The onion rings and cheese curds were really good. For 4 of us it was over $150. I'm not sure if it's worth going back. Definitely a place to check out at least once!

First time here and the experience was great, but unfortunately my waffle was gooey in the middle. As if it wasn’t cooked the whole way through and was still raw. I mentioned it to the server after eating the rest of my items, and she took the plate away that was barely eaten from because of the gooey texture but did not offer to take the item off the tab. I thought this was very weird. The potato pancakes were great though!

The kitchen staff is amazing! I asked our server about sauce and food ingredients due to an allergy. He assured me nothing had the allergen in it. Thank goodness he wrote down that I had an allergy. A kitchen member came out and told me my food had the allergen and offered to make something for me. That was so nice!
The fries and my husband's burger were just ok.
The boozy shakes were delicious and the highlight of the experience.
The gratuity fee is not truthful. Their website says they add 18% . If you didn't look at their site you wouldn't know until after you've eaten and the bring the bill. Then you find out it's not 18%, it's 20%. Of course they let you know it's not required to tip in too of that, but it's greatly appreciated. This makes you feel guilty and obligated. Customers should not be paying to make to the gap between tips and minimum wage. Front of house staff are supposed to be paid minimum wage under the law, so unless they are calling them front of house when they are actually also servers, that doesn't make sense.
*The minimum wage in Wisconsin is $7.25 per hour.
*Tipped employees must be paid at least $2.33 per hour in direct wages, plus tips to make up the difference to $7.25.
*If all tips are pooled, employers must pay all employees the full minimum wage.
I would only go back for the shakes as the rest was mediocre, but the reasoning behind the 20% gratuity seems shifty.
If you're going to insist on getting an extra 20%, just raise the prices and don't try to you people into tipping twice.

The food was gerat! However they add a 20% "service" charge to your order no matter what & state that it goes to everyone there so if you still want to leave a tip your are welcome to. I take issue with basically stating that I am paying the staff wages & the fact that if I want to leave my server a 25% tip I now am paying 45%. That's insane. We had reservations & were never told that we were only alotted an hour, apparently the bar was backed up & my only drink came after everyone was done eating, then 5 mins later & lady came over & told us we had to leave bcs the next reservation was there. So I couldn't even enjoy my drink, I had to down it & leave. That was very disappointing 😞 so only 3 stars.

Vibe and food is nice but I’m getting charged an extra 18% before I tip? If I have to do that then it should go to the server in the first place. You’re essentially making us want to tip less for making us pay more for the rest of the staff? If your margins aren’t good enough then make a different model instead of punishing the customers more.

Check your bill at the end.
They added 18% tip without letting us know.
2 adults, 2 kids, average fried food where fries and such are extra. Don's Old Fashioned tastes like any old fashioned, did the job.
Shakes were good and probably the only thing I would recommend. Boozy shake was $14 but to take the Chambord out so my daughter could have it NA cost $15.
Things had taken so long we had to change our shakes to go, which kind of ruins the experience but did mean we could take our time with them as they are really rich and creamy.
Server was with the fairies, we barely saw her and it all took a very long time for a half full venue. We had a 90 minute window before heading elsewhere. When my wife handed my card to someone to get payment sorted, it came back with out the check and I had to get a server to explain the $148 bill. She still suggested I tip the server if she even did a "decent job".
I understand auto-gratuity on large tables, but to not disclose it for a basic table is terrible business and the only reason I caught it was that I was stunned at the price of the meal. I could have quite easily tipped twice and it raises the question of how often people do this.
Past the auto-grat, the numbers added up correctly but they certainly work the "add on" method to make up for all those 10c martinis.
Cool spot, but wont return or send friends to eat.
