Course is really nice...but driving range sucks balls. ALWAYS hitting off mats. Grass is pristine but they always have "mats only" signs up. WHY????

This is a nice course just east of Madison. I’ve played the 18-hole Championship course a few times.
All of the rain this summer has really helped and things look nice and green. However, there’s quite a bit of standing water throughout the course in some places — seems like maybe it’s taking a day or two to drain out.
Most of the bunkers were in a bit of rough shape. Quite a bit of erosion and hadn’t been raked even by the end of the day. Of course, if you stay out of them, it’s not a problem.
Several greens looked like a war zone with divots all over the place. However, I understand that golfers could be doing a better job and repairing, so I can’t fault the course entirely for that.
Nice outdoor patio & outdoor bar. There’s also a driving range a short cart ride from the clubhouse.
We played as a 2-some for a twilight round and they didn’t require us to pair up, despite other 2-somes and a solo player all arriving around the same time. I appreciated this. I’ve been paired up before at Door Creek during busy times, but it’s nice that at a slower time in the day, they allowed us all to have separate tee times so long as we were ok with waiting.

You cannot play this course as a single. They will go out of their way to pair you with other groups even if there are many tee times open in between groups. This is definitely new in the last year+ because I have absolutely played this course as a solo before.
A) no single wants to play with 2-3 random people B) no group of 2-3 people want to play with a random. C) no single wants to wait an hour just to play with random people
I understand being a single golfer on a busy day is a pain and not ideal for the single or the other surrounding groups but on a weekday where there are like 4 tee times in 2 hours it causes no issues for anyone. I feel bad for the pro and workers that have to argue with people on the phone about this policy. I’ve seen others here that have the same problem. Will take my money elsewhere.

Loved this course, awesome place to sneak out for a quick round. Tried to get out for a solo round as I normally do during the week, and apparently no solos when the tee sheet looks like this. Then absolutely pushy to make me pay and go out with 3 other randoms. will take my business elsewhere now. Now no golfers until 1130. Crazy work

Fun course! In good shape with fast greens! Par 4’s average about 350 yds. Great service! Great rates. $20 to walk 9 holes at 630p on a Monday. Bugs were a bit thick but a little repellent went a long way! Would definitely play again!

I took my daughter to play 9 at the 9 hole executive course. I suffer from chronic back pain, so I asked for a cart. I was told "NO", carts are only for the championship course. After finishing the 2nd hole, up comes 4 obnoxious people on golf carts who then proceeded to rush us and hit into us. Obviously, rules are not the same for everyone.

Price doesn’t match the quality. Next to no sand in bunkers, gravel cart paths with tons of pot holes. Mud in tee shot landing areas. Should be a $45 max price but paid $67. Greens are fast and roll good.

They are discriminatory towards women and children here. Unless you’re a male over 50. DON’T GO!!
Source: Google
Aaron Redding
★ 1
They don't allow kids and don't have it advertised on their website or tell you when you book a tee time.
I also see they responded and asked me to just stop? Maybe you say no kids allowed instead of no ride alongs, there's a bit of a difference there. It just seems like this place likes to argue with you instead of correcting their problems. We would've happily stayed and allowed our children to golf and pay for them to swing a club probably a total of 3 times but were getting yelled at instead.

My wife and I have been coming to this golf course for the better part of this year... we've recently had a baby, so their par 3 "Executive Course" has been a life saver.
Unfortunately, my wife was stopped in the bathroom by someone who identified themself as an owner, and was told that we were never allowed to bring our baby out with us again.... after we had completed the course. When my wife informed the lady that we had let someone know at the front desk, her response was "Then we're going to have to fire someone."
After some time, a man came out to try and settle my wife and I down, but when we told him how inappropriate we felt my wife was treated, he called my wife a liar and walked away.
We are not unaware of the liability of having a toddler out with us.. and had we been told prior to heading out (for our 3rd time), we'd have understood. At every hole and every stop, we take several precautions to make sure our beautiful baby girl is okay and safe. So we understand if a course does not want to take on liability of that nature... however, the way that everything was handled after the round, when we were trying to spend money at the clubhouse, it's not likely that we will be back.
All anyone had to do was tell us that going forward, we wouldn't be able to proceed onto the course with our toddler... but, instead we felt attacked by ownership, acting like we were trying to get away with something.
It's our mission to get our daughter involved in sports at the earliest of ages.. particularly golf. So when we had found a place that allowed us to bring her seat (specifically designed for a golf cart) with us, we were over the moon. We would've just appreciated being treated nicely by the ownership at this facility... the rest of the team here is INCREDIBLE!! They are ALWAYS on top of things with a smile and a great attitude!.. that's what drove us to this course to begin with.
This is hard, because we love everything about how we've been treated up until now.. but how my wife was searched out in the bathroom and treated like we were trying to take advantage of something, simply does not sit well with me. We won't be back for some time, if ever.

Played on Sunday 6/8/2024. Greens were incredible very true, and quick. 2 cart girls out in the course. Pace of play was around 4hrs which was impressive considering the amount of golfers out. Food in the club house was fantastic. I would highly recommend and play here again.

Having lived in both Cottage Grove and Sun Prairie, I have played many rounds over the years at Door Creek. Overall, the course is good value for the money, and I recommend it as a course to anyone visiting the east Madison area.
The course has some unique hole designs, and they make for a challenging 18 holes for any level of play. It's unfortunate that they have lost many trees lately, but it is probably for the best. My only gripe is that they don't extend specific areas of the fairways to match the tree lines. For example, on the par 4 #3, you can pull driver and shape it left to right beyond the creek and the bunkers. There's a single tree on the far right that can add a challenge, and there are some small hills as well. I wish they would cut down the grass here a little to further entice the longer shot off the tee.
The staff are always very friendly, and you can often see them giving lessons to regulars out at the practice greens. Speaking of the practice areas, the chipping and putting greens at Door Creek are easily their best feature. No where else in Madison can you find an area to hit 40-50 yard approach shots to a practice green!
Be forewarned that the course has had some challenges with drainage, but they have improved this considerably. Holes #10-13 are the ones that seem to struggle the most with the low-lying creek areas, but if you can deal with it, it's not a problem.
Thanks for always giving me a great experience!

Normally a great place to play, but went today Sunday and got behind a group that wanted to be a eighty-one, and when asked to split, they played the ones round of golf imaginable. The kids working tried to make everyone happy, but the reality is that the 2 groups in front of us had no clue. Who wait for people to get on the green on par4 and par5"s before they tee off. They backed up the entire course, for hours. 9 holes, 3 hours of agony.

This golf course will challenge the best. Lots of room for wide hitters with average rough. Par 3's greens slightly elevated with run offs. Lots of ponds hidden on fairways. Wild life runs the course and a breeze always moves in and around a wide variety of trees. Make a tee time - you will not be disappointed.

Stopped in for a quick round on the executive course on our way to a Brewer game. We had a wonderful golf experience and the staff was very friendly. While their bar and grill was not open, it looked like the perfect place to host a party or have a frosty beverage after a round. In the pro shop, unique items like black clover apparel and custom putter covers were a great find. On the course conditions were fast and firm. The imagination needed around the greens and nerves needed for some knee knocking putts led to a fun-filled round. We will definitely be back.

Driving range: very affordable, well away from the course itself, not necessarily spacious enough for more than a dozen or so people to be hitting at once from the turf given how much grass had already been hit away from the designated swinging area but get there when it's not busy and you'll have a good experience.
Targets are a bit upslope so it's hard to see where your ball lands but NBD. The covered awning behind the turf is nice for rainy or very hot days. Hope to play the course soon.

The course itself was in great shape. It lost 2 stars because of the staff. First thing, if you only wanna golf 9 holes, you always get put on the front, I have yet to play the back after 4 rounds. I understand people are making the turn, but when I call 2 days in advance for a tee time, something can be figured out. Second thing, the older gentlemen at the counter has always been rude to me every time I come in. I am younger and have tattoos, so therefore I must hack up your course and get treated poorly correct? Wrong. I'm a par shooter that enjoys the sport. I'm paying hard earned money to get treated like that? I'll find somewhere else to go.
