It's hit or miss at DD. Atmosphere/decor is cool! We've been here a few times, and this is the 2nd time onions arrived in the old mans hashbrowns. We would have had to call 911 if he consumed an onion. That's how serious his allergy is. The waitress acknowledged & wrote down the onion allergy again on his order. The 1st time, months ago, the hash browns were replaced. The most recent time, the waitress acknowledged & seen the onions, took the plate, didn't offer a replacement for the hash browns & left with it. We assumed that a fresh order was coming as she was mumbling walking away. After 15 min of waiting at our table (it was a slow part of the day) we left the table to pay. He told the cashier what happened & she shrugged it off. There's nothing like paying full price for a meal u didn't get to eat half of & getting served your severe allergy on your food. We personally won't be going back. Recommendation for any allergy people, state it twice, check your food, & get firm with a replacement as they EASILY make errors. Shame...

We went there for lunch and had the salmon. It was amazing. We have also gone there for breakfast, which was also amazing so if you’re ever around or no matter where you live it’s well worth the drive to eat at This diner. The atmosphere takes you back to the good old days and also the music is amazing. We have never had a bad meal there. The customers and the owners are super friendly. We stopped in for a bite and were so glad we did! We had the tuna melt, a burger, and a waffle with bacon; everything was absolutely delicious. You can tell they care about the food they serve. We rated this restaurant a two because the food was WAY OVER PRICED. I had a BLT (a very small BLT and tepid cup of soup) at a price of $9.50, that's all I got for $9.50, my wife had a salad which she said was good but again over priced for what she got ($11.50), $21.30 for a very small sandwich a cup of soup and a salad. As I wrote WAY OVER PRICED for what we got. Christina the waitress was very good at her job (very polite and professional). The only reason we went our friends invited us out for a meal, but I don't think we will go again. It's sad cause we don't like giving negative reviews.

The place was near empty. I think people are not leaving reviews but just not coming back. My advice if you do go to this cute 50’s vintage themed restaurant: do not order the Eggs Benedict. I am not sure what the yellowish greenish gravy substance on top of the medium eggs (which were on top of burnt english muffin) but it was not hollandaise sauce. It had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The hashbrowns had a weird flavor -like a pickle flavor. I asked the server if that was what the dish always looked like. She said yes. My husband got an omelette that was dry -looked bad. The service was ok. I would have said something but I read the reviews where a person complained and the owner came and yelled at them. I didnt need that!

We stopped in for breakfast on Wednesday, and there were only 3 other tables of people seated.
Our waitress was great at first but disappeared for too long before we placed an order. One of us had to stand up and look for her to take our order.
The food took a while to show up. It arrived on cold plates and looked mediocre.

The Friday Fish Fry is fabulous; it’s a favorite for my husband and I. I had hoped for a similar experience for brunch.

I like the old-time diner atmosphere, and our waitress was lovely, but she didn’t offer more coffee or bring water to the table (I asked for that when we ordered coffee). The food for brunch was just okay. And I tipped the waitress because she was pleasant, even though she didn’t provide great service.

The unfortunate issue that I want to caution people about is that when I went to pay the check, the lady running the cash register reached over and selected the “ok” button without allowing me to select or deny a tip (I had already left cash on the table because I’ve heard that is preferred by waitstaff); so the cashier added another 20% tip to my bill without my consent. Then when I asked her about it she acted like she didn’t know how to fix it. I let it go, but want to caution others; and if the staff at Douglas Ave Diner read this, my hope is that they will train staff to allow customers to choose the tip on their own.

placed an order for pick up *directly through their website*. received notification it was ready for pickup. when I got there the hostess couldn't find my order. she talked to who I assume the manager is, came back and repeated that they did not have my order. I pulled up the notifications and receipt on my phone and confirmed I was at the right place. she once again says we don't have that order. ok... well can you explain the charge that went through? she talks to her manager and says it'll be ready in 10 minutes. no apologies or anything...

ordered a side of "fresh" vegetables for $4 and got a couple pieces of broccoli and carrots. way overpriced and they didnt look especially appetizing. the Styrofoam from my takeout box melted because of the hot food. the country fried steak was drenched in a thick gravy, I could barely even eat it. the sausage links were the already cooked frozen ones I have in my freezer at home, obviously not fresh.

the chocolate chip pancakes were ok but for the high price, low quality food...I would never come back here.

We stopped in for brunch today since this was the highest rated diner (we are not from Racine) and we were shopping in the area. It was about a 20 minute wait which is no big deal if you're getting a good meal. My husband ordered a cappuccino, but we didn't realize it was a gas station style hot chocolate machine. I ordered biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs over medium. The gravy was "off". It kind of tasted like they used lemon pepper or something acidic in it and it was horrible. The eggs were hard cooked thru and quite sad. My husband got the corned beef skillet and it also tasted not quite right. The food just isn't good.

Stopped in for breakfast with a friend and the food was amazing as always. Our server was prompt in getting our order taken and attentive to our requests for additional items (sour cream, hot sauce, etc) once our food arrived at the table.

The restaurant itself is very clean, well lit and has kind of an old timey vibe to it with various memorabilia on the walls and oldies playing over the sound system. There was no wait when we got there, and we were able to get in & out in about an hour even with catching up with each other over our meal. Highly recommend!!

The restaurant was nice and clean, neat concept and decor. Food was just good in general, though I'd say the French fries were excellent. Had a strange interaction though, I ordered a combo plate that included both bacon and sausage links. I asked for the sausage links well done, which the server said she'd check on, but they might not. That wasn't a big deal, but I got my plate from the same server and it was all sausage, no bacon, and I wouldn't say any of the 4 links were well done. I questioned the bacon and she said it was probably how the kitchen read her ticket and was just a misunderstanding. Then added she'd be back with the bacon, but I'd have to return two of the links that were already on my plate. I didn't mind giving them back because I didn't really want 4 plus bacon, but I don't recall ever being asked to give food back that was placed in front of me when the restaurant made the mistake. So when she came back, I scooted the 2 pieces of bacon onto my plate, and scooted 2 links onto the new plate for the server to them just throw out.

The owner seated me and provided the history. It's been his restaurant for 8 years and he spruced it up with all the memorabilia. A true flashback to the 50's and 60's. Took a friend to lunch here today. Greeted by a hostess who must have been having a bad day. Waitress came to take our order. Another sourpuss. I ordered two eggs poached runny with bacon. My friend ordered a strawberry chicken salad which came with a dinner roll. When I mentioned senior discount, the waitress snarled and said something to the effect of we don't have that. Approximately 25 minutes later our food arrived. Another waitress told us the kitchen was running behind. When the waitress sat down my eggs, she said she knew that was not how I ordered them..hard as a rock...and should she take them back? Well duh. Second batch came out not much better. I gave up. Had to ask another waitress for the dinner roll. If order the chicken salad, you have to hunt and peck to find the chicken. When I went to pay, I told Miss Happy how disappointed we were and that we would not be back. The owner came over and started yelling at me saying his cooks have over 20 years experience and he really didn't care if we were unhappy because his has a bunch of 5 star reviews. We knew the previous owner Steve and he would be embarrassed to know how I was treated.

Not from this area, was here for athletics tournament. Had a rain delay so ran for breakfast. I placed my order online for curbside. I called when I got there which was about 20 min before my order was to be ready so I called and said I’m here and right outside the door whenever it’s ready. I called again 5 min after my pickup time and asked for status. It was ready and no one brought it out so when the hostess brought it to my car it was already room temp. I got back to the school about 8 min later and opened everything to eat with my son and no utensils. We ate our breakfast with our fingers as I don’t keep forks in my pocket. Food was very greasy to the point grease ran down our hands to our wrists while pulling apart and eating the omelette, hash browns, and breakfast nachos. Didn’t eat the pancakes due to no forks. The portion size was good but the toast was spongy and I could not even bite a bite, a big tear of toast came off and I had to pull it apart with my hands. I would have been better off across the parking lot at the golden arches. The staff was courteous and the portion size is good so two stars for that but the coating of grease at the roof of my mouth is gross from my food.

This rating is for their chili only. Have eaten here before and it's OK, nothing special. Decided to try the chili and it was awful. When the "bowl" was placed in front of me, it looked like ground beef and beans floating in oil. There wasn't the usual tomato base. Also, I realize that businesses are complaining about costs and passing that along to customers. But there was nothing else in the chili, no onions or tomatoes. I was asked if I wanted cheese or onions and I said just cheese assuming there would be some onions in the mix. Nothing was mentioned that it would be an extra $2.00 for the tablespoon of cheese they threw on top. You can buy an 8oz bag of shredded cheese on sale for less than $2.00 so charging that much for one lousy tablespoon is just ripping people off. If I had asked for the onions, there probably would have been another $2.00 surcharge. $10 for a very small "bowl" of awful chili is pushing the boundary of passing along supposed cost increases. I ate as much as I could, not wanting to create a scene. If that's their recipe, so be it. My friend finished what I didn't eat. My friend ordered a BLT sandwich and didn't want the greasy/salty fries that come with it so asked if they had an alternate. He was given cubed potatoes. Guess what? Another $2.00 surcharge that wasn't mentioned. A potato is a potato, what difference does it make what shape it's in. Total bill was $20...without any drinks! We can get 2 full dinners at Denny's with their senior discount for that price. So even though it's a longer drive, it's Denny's from now on.
