Would not recommend for vegetarians or vegans. Order the vegetarian bao buns and dumplings. Neither were very good. Mostly just stuffed with flavorless greens. Edible but not enjoyable.

I was really excited to eat here since I usually don't venture to the West Side... but the food was SO BLAND. the lo mein had no sauce other than maybe a cooking oil. I could only eat a couple bites.
the dumplings were the same quality you could get frozen from the grocery store.
maybe it was just a one off, or maybe there are better things on the menu but I would not return to try. I spent about 50 bucks just to throw my dinner away.
the staff was kind though and the cashier had a great smile.

I can't believe I've had anything labeled as Sichuan, that has been more bland and salty than the noodles here. Do not recommend if you're looking for a more authentic Asian flavor. When asked for chili peppers to salvage this salt bomb, i was given two packets of generic hot sauce you might get in a pizza shop....avoid.

All around very bland. The food was very overpriced for what you get and the tables were sticky. The bao and the soup dumplings were so disappointing that I wasn't surprised to see someone had disposed of an entire untouched bao in the dish disposal when we were going to leave. However, I will shout out the veggie spring rolls which were some of the best I've ever had. I just wish the entrees had been at that quality.

I like the pot stickers and the chicken soup with rice noodles. Another visit, I lunch with a friend - we both had chicken noodle soup this visit. Chicken was tender and moist, bok choy was fresh and abundant noodles. Good flavor.

I like leaving great reviews and it is rare that I go to the effort to leave a bad one, but...While the dumplings and other items were just fine, they were nothing special and they were extremely expensive. The textures and fillings were just good enough to eat if you are hungry. There were no condiments available and the sauces they came with were bad, mostly tasting like vinegar. I didn't mind getting our plates and napkins etc myself, but the glasses for water were so old they looked dirty. We spent over $40 for two and left hungry. We were both very disappointed and we certainly will not be back.

I ordered Xiao Long Bao, pickled cabbage ground pork noodles, pot stickers and custard buns. They are very tasty and authentic. I'm quite certain their dim sum are hand made as well, since they don't have a uniform shape. 非常正宗的小笼包,雪菜肉丝面,锅贴和奶黄包。以后会经常来,价格也很实惠。

Dumpling Haus is located right next to the Hilldale Shopping Center. The menu was quite appealing and we ordered the pan-fried dumplings with chicken (Haus sticker), Dan Dan noodles (they called it the sesame noodle kick in the menu) and stir-fried mixed vegetables. All of the dishes were freshly made and the Dan Dan noodles were a signature dish, mixed with peanuts and their special sauce. The portion was ample enough to serve two people. I would recommend adding a few drops of chili oil to the noodles if you enjoy a bit of heat.

For the pan-fried dumplings, you could choose between chicken, pork, or veggie. They were delicious, the pastry wasn't too thick, making them a must-try dish here. The stir-fried vegetables included pak choi, carrots, and bean sprouts, which were fairly standard.

The prices were reasonable and the food was good overall. The seating was comfortable and we particularly enjoyed the tables near the window, which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful snow outside.

Service was excellent 👍.

This is basically the McDonalds of dumplings. Being our first time here we ordered 4 different things and shared them. The food was extremely underwhelming and bland for the price you pay. I looked at the website before I went and nothing I was served look like the pictures on the website. This was my first time here and I won't be coming back. I seldom leave reviews, but this was bad.

It was nice to be treated, but eating here was just a long reminder of why I never order appetizers. I get that making a meal out of a bunch of dumplings is a thing, but I'm not sure it's worth paying what it would cost to leave satisfied. Everything's small and the flavors are hit or miss.

The house pork dumplings didn't taste like much on their own; the sauce added a nice tanginess, but that's the only flavor I was getting. Disappointing. The xaio long bao were much better -- the soup inside was flavorful and bursts in your mouth. The BBQ pork buns had very little filling so I mostly tasted steamed bread. The fried rice was great, but if your thing is supposed to be dumplings, I think that's a problem.

Dumpling Haus: A Dumpling Disaster

I recently had the misfortune of visiting Dumpling Haus, a place I had high hopes for.

To start, I placed an order totaling $31 and tipped $4 for a carry out order. Unfortunately, things went downhill fast. After paying with my credit card, I was informed that there was a "network issue" preventing the transaction from processing. They handed me a number for my order and assured me it would be resolved quickly. All the while thinking my food was being cooked.

Twenty-five minutes later, after repeatedly attempting to scan my card and watching five different employees fumble with the system, I was still without my food. Their solution? Suggest I order online and pay there instead so they can begin processing my order. Seriously? As if I had the time or patience to go through another convoluted process.

Needless to say, I walked out without my meal and with zero intention of ever returning. The Dumpling Haus may be known for their dumplings, but what they truly excel at is wasting time and delivering subpar customer service. Save yourself the headache.

Stopped in for carry out, usually it gets ready pretty quick but had to wait 25 mins and when it was ready they got us half right and half wrong foods. When I told them they r not what I ordered she got mad and told me I had to pay more even though they made a mistake. Almost asked to take it out of her tip I gave her but didn’t, haha. Came home and there was barely no sauce to mix in with noodles. Pork dumplings were way salty. It was totally waste of spending almost $60 for fast food.

Delicious food with many vegetarian options, the veg wontons were delicious with their chili sauce; also the veg fried dumplings. The cold peanut noodles were the tastiest! I’d never had bao before, and thought the pork bao was interesting and pretty good, but didn’t care for all the dough; I think if you like bao, you’d be very happy with it. The iced teas were very good, also.

The food is consistently pretty good, albeit expensive for the portions. My main issue is the plastic, which is mentioned in other reviews. In particular, in my takeout orders, the sauce lid melts and spills in the bag frequently because the sauce lid melts. I think they need a better way to pack to-go orders.

Do not eat here if you have celiac disease or a serious gluten sensitivity. I was assured I was eating gluten free noodles, but they were not. I realized a few bites in, got terribly ill within two hours, and have been unwell for more than a week since. UPDATED response to restaurant’s dishonest statement 4 weeks following the incident: I was very clear I had celiac disease and an allergy to gluten. I am always extremely clear whenever I eat at restaurants and have never had a similar issue. This incident has had a very severe impact on my health. I have been ill for more than four weeks, requiring multiple medical tests in Chicago and the UK over the holidays.

Ordered a haus chicken noodle soup and a chicken fried rice that ended up being $25. I get it. Inflation. However, this was the most bland fried rice I have ever eaten. 2 soy sauce packets didn’t help. It had egg pieces and some shredded chicken that was identical to the shredded chicken they pile on the soup. No veggies. How do you make fried rice without onion or garlic? The soup was OK, but it was far below what I would have expected for one of the easiest dishes a person can cook. It’s literally broth, noodles, and meat. Where did the flavor go?

Overview:
4/5
Dumpling Haus is a counter-service Chinese restaurant located in Hilldale, offering a variety of delectable dumplings, noodles, and buns. With its good flavors and quick service, it provides a satisfying dining experience for lovers of Chinese cuisine. While it may not reach the same level as higher-tier (and higher-priced) establishments, Dumpling Haus is a great spot to satisfy your cravings for comforting dishes.

Atmosphere:
The atmosphere at Dumpling Haus is casual and inviting. The interior has a modern and clean design, providing a relaxed setting for a quick meal. There is also limited outdoor seating available during warmer weather.

Service:
As a counter-service restaurant, the service at Dumpling Haus is efficient and prompt. Limited interaction with diners makes this category less important, but the staff has been responsive and helpful.

Menu, Food, and Beverages:
Dumpling Haus boasts a menu that showcases classic Chinese flavors. The star of the show is, of course, the dumplings. From steamed to pan-fried, the dumplings are expertly made with flavorful fillings. The noodles and buns on offer are also worth exploring, providing additional options for a satisfying meal. Vegetarian choices are available, and they do a good job of notifying common (and uncommon) allergens. While the flavors at Dumpling Haus are commendable, there is room for improvement in terms of consistency. Some dishes shine brighter than others, so it's advisable to try a few different items to find your favorites.

Price:
Dumpling Haus offers reasonably priced dishes, making it an accessible option for a quick and satisfying meal. Soups are also noodle-heavy, ensuring you get your money's worth. There may be some variation in portion size compared to the amount spent, so this may vary slightly, but overall the portion sizes are good.

Location and Accessibility:
Located in Hilldale, parking can be challenging, but the area is walkable and convenient once a spot is secured. There are two parking ramps behind the mall area.

Special Features/Highlights:
A highlight at Dumpling Haus is the dumpling prep area – diners are able to watch chefs hand-wrap a variety of fresh dumplings!

Improvements:
To enhance the overall experience, Dumpling Haus could focus on improving consistency across all dishes. Additionally, expanding the beverage options would be a welcome addition.

Final Thoughts:
Dumpling Haus is a solid choice for those seeking a quick and satisfying Chinese meal in Hilldale, with its flavorful dumplings, noodles, and buns. Dumpling Haus provides a convenient and tasty option for a casual dining experience!

Tasty but wasteful. Good Chinese food, but ate dine-in on to-go containers (we used lids as plates) with small plastic cups. Come for great dumplings, but avoid if you care about living sustainably. They don't even have recycle bins for the cups and lids which are clear plastic and recyclable (if not using as plates).

Too expensive for in-house dining. $88 for a family of four. Everything was served in to-go containers. No music. Walls, windows, tables, bathroom were visibly dirty. My family watched a man in a wheelchair struggle to open the main doors as there wasn't an automatic opener. I immediately got up to hold the doors. Hilldale needs to replace this restaurant with a business that wants to provide a dine-in experience. Do better.

My husband and I came here for dinner, we were looking for something more low key and something yummy. We decided to give this place a try. We are do happy we did!!! The food was delicious, the bao, dumplings, spring rolls were so good! Yes- they bring it out in to go containers, but I personally loved this. since you pay up front, you don't have to go ask for containers and dirty a dish which they would then have to wash- I can appreciate just giving the food in containers to go. We also ordered some extra food to take home because it was so good! [we dont live super close]. Highly recommend!

Okay place to get some Chinese flavor in the area.
Had soup noodle and taco boa (or gua boa where most of the places call it).
The soup noodle was quite innovative with a lot of veggies, however, the flavor of the broth could be stronger.
Taco boa (aka gua boa) is actually quite good with juicy pork belly. The taste could elevate a lot if they add some grind peanut (花生粉 or 花生糖).

Over all, not too shabby if you live around hilldale and don't own a car. Would probably try their dumplings next time.

Another thing is they serve with take out boxes whether you are dining in or to go. Would love to have actual plates and utensils next time dining in.

Everywhere is short staffed and maybe it's a way to help stay open. I kept the to go containers as they are great to reuse and send people with some goodies you make at home. My husband had on of the pork dumplings that comes with 10. They were pretty good. We also split an order of pork belly bao tacos which were also good. My husband was jealous of my Xiao Long Bao dumplings. I wish the order had a few more dumplings as I wasn't quite full when finished. You're able to fill your own water here. Got the signature dumplings. Got 10 so it was good amount. Not bad, like them just a little firmer then somewhat soft& wet. Maybe it was from lid being on while hot. Dipping sauce was tasty. Had Better, but it pass for putting something in tummy. 20mins after leaving, had dirrehea. Thx goodness for bathroom near.

The Dumplings were a but bland but okay. The bad was great, we had the Nutella and custard ones. The house noodles were okay, a bit dry but overall okay. I'd recommend you try it at least once but preferably dine-in instead of take out.

This would be a 3.5 for me…so I guess I’m rating it as a 3.

The pork dumplings were good, but not remarkable. Enjoyable but not impressive.

The pork buns were decent, but not as good as others we’ve had in the Madison area.

The Shanghai spicy noodles were disappointing. The noodles were under-sauced and clumpy. We added chili oil and soy sauce at home to make them flavorful.

Xiao long bao is good but I think the food on the menu mostly is over price. Self-services restaurant so doesn't give much expectation for the environment before you go. The dumpling you find here is much better than those you buy from Asian markets and then cook by yourself at the home.

I was disappointed by the service, environment, and food from this restaurant.

I took my friend here for a weekend lunch. We both ordered soup, grabbed a table, and to our surprise both soups were delivered in to-go cups with lids. I told the waitress we are eating for here and would like bowls. She curtly responded you can eat from the to-go cup, and returned to the kitchen.

It was unpleasant to eat hot soup from a tall cup. I had to use my chopsticks to fish for the noodles at the bottom, and it was near impossible to scoop up broth with the regular plastic spoon they provided. I had to drink the broth from the to-go cup like a beer. Not ideal.

This put a damper on my lunch with my friend. It was awkward, difficult to hold conversation, and I felt he wanted to leave as fast as possible. I regret not having gone to Bar Taco or any other restaurant at Hilldale, especially considering our two soups cost just shy of $30. That’s about the same price at other places with servers and proper plates/bowls.

Also, the flavor of the soup was nice, but it was too salty. And they didn’t provide water.

To owner: I understand we are still in covid times, but please announce clearly that your restaurant serves to-go only. Either way, I likely will not return soon, nor would I recommend to a friend.

"Asian" cuisine with a side of gentrification. Nothing had flavor to the point I thought I might have Covid. An honest embarrassment to the cuisine.

First time visiting, I had the chicken steamed dumplings and chicken fried rice and it was pretty good! It is a bit on the pricey side though. Myself and one other person was around $40, with us both just getting dumplings, rice, and a drink.

I can’t believe this horrible food costed me more than $25 after tax and service fee. From a Taiwanese Taiwanese point of view, what they served cannot be called “food”. I’m very disappointed what I had especially when I saw the servers I thought this could be a legit Chinese restaurant (Sigh) I’d never go back and would not recommend anyone to try their food if you’d like to have some genuine Chinese cuisine.

I would say go in to eat instead of calling to order as some things get lost in communication. Their food is fantastic and super delicious. The veggie lo mein and the bbq bun are a must try and the tomato and egg soup is another fantastic try.

It’s 2022, start using less plastic, at least for dine in: plastic fork, plastic cup, plastic container, plastic sauce container. Not great.
Food was decent, but overpriced.

It's nice. There are vegetarian and vegan options. Veggie wontons with garlic sauce is great. Asian places need to have great white rice. Mine was a little crusty but passable. The veg rolls were good. Better to eat there even if the only packaging is a cheap takeout box.

So disappointing, since this used to be one of my favorites. As you can see from my other reviews, I don't usually say anything unless something nice to say. This time was so bad, so I'm making an exception. To start, I agree 100% with Mike, DJ, and Ying's reviews below. $80 for three people ordering three noodle dishes, one app, one bao, rude service and plastic containers for dine in. Eating noodle soup inside a restaurant out of a tall, narrow plastic container?! No thanks. Maybe just don't offer anything but take out until you're ready to offer quality dine in with real dish ware again. No water available and they don't recycle anything. The trash was full of bottles, cans, etc. Bathroom was filthy. So disappointing. We won't be returning. BTW, it looks like they've been maybe deleting bad reviews off Facebook - none are recent and all are very positive, which doesn't jive with here or Yelp. If so, even more reason not go here.

Why 2 stars? Today, I eat here and still they aren't offering chili sauce like they once did. Correction: they offer it in a bottle for takeaway at $8 per bottle. So, they make the sauce in-house but only offer it for sale as a non-menu product. It's absurd and so I asked one of the workers why, and he said, "I don't know."

Secondly, it's March 2022: people are dining in, and still the restaurant serves food in plastic to-go dishes. As far as plastic wastage goes, it's just sad, but also you're paying higher prices for a lesser experience dining experience, and it's an insult to the people who pay money for the food. They need to bring back plates, bowls, and silverware.

And the food has gotten lazy. This alone lost them another star, in my opinion.

The servings are cute, but everything is too salty or too much soy sauce. Ordered their beef shank-one of the more expensive items on the menu & major disappointment. The entire serving came covered & bathed in way too much soy sauce and the meat was too salty. Not worth the price. The person taking orders could also use some customer service training, speak louder instead of mumbling. Food is way to pricey vs how good it actually is. Would not recommend.

This was our first time here. A bunch of peoples have been telling us that we had to try this restaurant! I LOVE NOODLES BUT, someone either orders everthing or makes everthing. The problem we had when we got there was everyone came in behind us so we just panicked & pointed. We ended up making some great choices. Haus Jiao Zi were awesome pork filled dumplings with just enough flavor. Next was Shrimp Dumpling. They had a strange texture my husband couldn't get past. They were almost translucent. After the second Dumpling I was addicted. I was full by the time I finished but there is always room for Sesame Balls. These were not greasy like I've had at some places, but they were extremely hot. The filling was sweet and we ate more than we should have . Dumpling Haus will definitely be a regular stop for us.

Very solid dumplings. I went with 2 friends and we all got the same dumplings :) but nonetheless, all of us thought they were excellent.

Ambience: 3/5 - nothing special, but was notably clean
Food: 5/5 - if you want dumplings, this is an excellent place for those. They make them fresh and are hot and delicious. We didn't try other foods, but if ever I have a hankering for dumplings, I'll return.
Price: 2/5 - While the dumplings were very good, they seemed a bit overpriced for what was served. The order of dumplings was about $14 and it felt like it probably should have been closer to $9-$10.
Service: 3/5 - we weren't in a rush, but the dumplings also didn't arrive very fast. While we ate there, we noticed other patrons also waiting for, what seemed, a longer than average time. I'd guess due to staffing issues from Covid. Despite the wait, the quality of the food (temperature and flavor) was not effected at all. It felt like the staff was doing their best to keep up.

Parking: Parallel Parking or nearby mall parking
Bathrooms: N/A - I didn't look, but I'd speculate clean as the rest of the restaurant was clean
Seating: More than enough seating for any occasion. It also seemed like take-out was a bigger business which definitely didn't make seating a problem.

What a bizarre experience!!! The cashier did not speak a single word when my husband and I were ordering. He did not greet us or ask us for here or to go, instead he just wrote down the food we ordered, and pointed at the soda section. We assumed he doesn’t speak English and was just asking if we want anything to drink. However, he literally communicated with every other customer in English behind us! Honestly I’m super confused and feel offended.

The food itself was average and overpriced. We paid 50 dollars (15% tip) for dinner for two in plastic containers without any service. If you like dumplings, just get some frozen ones in any Asian market. Those are easy to make and delicious.
