Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que in Wisconsin Dells was fine for a quick meal, but nothing that stood out. I went with a mixed platter to try a little bit of everything, and while it covered the basics, the flavors leaned more toward fast food style barbecue than the kind of smoke and depth I’ve gotten used to living in Texas. That might just be me holding the bar high, but it’s worth pointing out if you’re expecting competition-level barbecue.

The ribs had a decent char but lacked that slow-smoked tenderness you get when they’re cooked low and slow. Pulled pork was serviceable, a bit on the dry side, and the chicken was pretty average. Sauces were the strongest part of the meal, offering some sweetness and tang to make up for the meat not standing out. The sides were also straightforward — nothing bad, but nothing memorable either.

Service was quick and polite, and the atmosphere felt more like a themed chain restaurant than a local smokehouse. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it’s just a different experience. If you walk in looking for a casual sit-down meal with predictable barbecue flavors, it does the job.

For me, it scratched the hunger but didn’t wow. In a pinch, it’s fine, but if you’re spoiled on Texas barbecue like I am, it’s going to feel more like a fill-in meal than a destination stop.

Famous Dave's is usually a consistent spot for a barbecue fix. I ordered the two-meat combo with brisket and pulled pork. The pulled pork was fantastic: moist, flavorful, and perfect with their Devil's Spit sauce for a kick. The highlight, as always, was the sweet, cake-like cornbread muffin. The brisket, however, was disappointing on this visit. While it had good flavor and a smoke ring, the meat was dry and not very tender. The sides were decent; the coleslaw was crisp and fresh, but the mac and cheese was just standard. Service was quick and efficient, perfect for a lunch break. It was still a good meal and I would return, but I’ll stick to their pulled pork or ribs, which they consistently get right.

NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN! TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT YOUR RECEIPT AND SPECIFY MORE THAN ONCE WHAT YOU WANT TO ORDER. Our family with only 3 adults ordered the feast for 2 which was more than enough. We let our server know exactly what we wanted and when the food came it was delicious. But once we got our bill the bill had the All American BBQ feast which fed 4-6 people. We knew that was a lot of food to begin with that is why we specified the feast for 2 and still got charged the all American bbq feast. They discounted our receipt but the left overs that we had the restaurant forced us to give them back the left overs we packaged up. Like what was the restaurant going to do with the left overs ? Give them to other people? It’s not our fault we got charged for the wrong meal ?

I would advise against visiting this establishment. My daughter's birthday party dined here between 2:00pm-3:00pm and the food was unremarkable. I am requesting a $192 refund. Notably, the macaroni bowls served to my daughter and her friend were excessively soupy. The manager maintained that this was the intended preparation method. However, I contradicted them, citing my own experience with macaroni in Milwaukee and issues with Famous Dave's. The manager permitted my daughter to select an alternative meal, but I was still charged for the original dish. Conversely, her friend, who did not eat, was charged for the bowl, albeit with a 50% discount. Moreover, my food and the other girls' meals were served cold.

Visited downtown Wisconsin Dells location. Service was good. Their beef brisket was delicious and not dry. It's a little pricey, but they give generous portions.
Only negitive: This location was a little cramped. We were put at a table for 4 up against the staircase, and with all the stuff on the table, there wasn't a lot of room.

This Famous Dave's is located in Downtown WI Dells. During the summer tourist season, many of the tourist destinations and restaurants are operated by international students. The concept is great, but imagine managing a restaurant where an entire staff speaks a different language! We asked a server for ketchup, butter, and napkins. We got a bottle of ketchup because I gave her an empty, nothing more. I asked a 2nd server for butter. We got a glass of water. When the water arrived, I spelled out the word B U T T E R. It finally came. Unfortunately, by then, the corn on the cob was cold. We still walked out full, wishing our server all the best in her studies in her home country.

Last weekend Saturday my 2 sons and I were going for dinner at 845. We looked at the web site said they close at 10. We got there at 905 they said they were closed for the holiday. Memorial Day was on Monday not Saturday. The staff was extremely rude. If you are going to change your hours you should update your website so people don’t drive 20 miles out farther to find out you are closed, by rude staff and managers.

Having worked in the restaurant industry for 30+ years I cannot believe what I'm about to tell you. You should probably plan to eat here when it's busy, you'll get better service. We walked into a near empty restaurant (only one other table) were given menus, then proceeded to wait at least 10 minutes for our server to show up. Then she disappeared again after we got our drinks and another few minutes went by before she took our order. Very pleasant young lady, mind you. During the time we were there, two other parties came in, both 6 tops. By the time we were finished with our lunch, they had only been served their drinks & were still waiting for their food when we left. I felt bad for the kids, sitting there with absolutely nothing for that length of time. We've only ever been here when it was busy, on at least 5 other occasions, where it all came together & was an enjoyable experience every time. Love the food here, that's why we return. I like the location being in downtown Wisconsin dells. Feeling surprised we had was paying for parking but it was inexpensive and you could use a card to pay for it. The restaurant was a little small but accommodated enough people and we didn't have to wait too long. We were greeted immediately and sat down within 5 to 10 minutes. The waitress was amazing and gave us great service and recommendations. They only had beer and wine available which was slightly disappointing as a mixed drink is my preference. The food came out pretty quickly the temperature was perfect and it tasted delicious. We had baby back and St Louis style ribs. If you're getting ribs get the St Louis style ribs as they have more meat. The baby back ribs did taste good and I'm thinking it was the best they had which was lacking meat on the bones wish I had that other restaurants that carry baby back ribs. Lastly, the prices were surprisingly good. I would definitely recommend this particular location as the other Famous Daves near the Kalahari resort doesn't have near as good of service.

I was in the Dells one night trying to get food for my family and all of our kids so I came in a lil earlier than 10pm because they stopped answering the phone. I ordered 2 chili cheese fries and 20 wings, cost me like $67 I tipped them before I even got my food so it was $71 I gave them for 20 wings n 2 fries. They told me 15-20 mins I said ok I’ll be back. I ordered pizza for the kids from pizza pub they told me 15-20 mins when I got there I had to wait. So I got the pizza and when I got back to Famous Dave’s it was 10:45 they closed at 10:30. But you know like any other restaurant I’m under the impression that they’re gonna at least wait 30 mins before they throw my food out. So I get there they’re eating my food the guy at the counter is laughing. So I ask for the manager. He says I can get a refund but I have to wait til Monday. I call back Monday and I speak to them; they say they don’t recall any of this and then they turn off their phones. But I’m going to get my money back. Terrible service worst experience I’ve ever had while on vacation we had to share pizza with our kids.

Don’t go there! I don’t know what happened but this place is terrible. We were told there was no chicken left, but after a few minutes the server says they still have some left. They had no fries either. The place is tiny and the food is definitely not the same. Our food was warm not hot. We sat by the stairs and one of the workers was sweeping the stairs, we were right under them. We had to ask her stop sweeping. They looked at us like it was no big deal, no apology nothing. Worst BBQ I have ever tasted. Ordered the burnt ends which were not burnt,due to the fact that all of your meat being boiled. How can you burn the end on boiled meat? The sauce was burned and you could taste it. No grill marks on none of the meat. First off, we got sat at a dirty and sticky table. There was reminisces of old food from the previous people who sat at that table. Me and my fiancé had to wait a while to order. I got the chicken fingers with the cob and fries and he got the Texas Brisket with the fries and mash potatoes. My fingers where insanely hard to bite into, both our fries where freezing cold, and his mashed potatoes felt as if it sat out for along time before being served to someone. It was incredibly cold. Then lastly his meat was very tough, cold, and looked like it was heated up in a microwave. Told the server about what happened to my fiancés food, and was only willing to take 50% off. He only had three bites of his food. Very disappointed as this was my first time and last time visiting.

This place is amazing. Some of the options are pretty pricey but worth it. Great place. The decorations were entertaining.

The only drawback was that the lady's restroom smelled like a dozen used tampons that were left in a box in the sun all day. It was rank. Great food, but don't go into the restroom if you can help it.

That all American feast. All 4 could rest and enough for lunch tomorrow. True BBQ. Taste, atmosphere, service. All first rate. Chicken falls of the bones. Ribs make you want to chew the bone. The brisket practically melts in your mouth.

Came to Wisconsin Dells last week with my family for an "Beginning of summer" trip. Our first night in town we chose to eat at this Famous Dave's location. We had a part of 10. 5 children and 5 adults.

1st, they didn't have a table to accommodate our party. We looked past that, sat at 2 different tables and ordered our drinks. After we received our drinks, we ordered our food. 25 minutes after ordering our food, the server comes back and tells us it's going to be an even longer wait due to a party of 25 (that apparently had been there for 2 hours) choosing to order "to go" meals at the same time we ordered. *I'm a server myself and when there is a large party, I always make sure to tell my tables before they even order a drink*

Anyways at this point we are all hungry, our children (ages 1-7) are getting impatient and fussy but we still chose to stay because it had already been almost a half an hour since ordering our meals.

25 mins later our food comes out and my brother is livid. He asked to speak to the manager because our server was rude, untrained and lacked customer service skills majorly. The apparent manager Oscar, who didn't in any way shape or form stand out as a manager on duty, was very rude, he didn't try to accommodate us in any way shape or form. The only explanation he gave us was "the staff aren't trained" and walked away after telling my brother his name. I mean at the very least he could've offered our children dessert! 🤷🏽‍♀️

We were treated like we were a bother, when in all actuality we are normal people who wanted to have a nice meal as a family after a long day at the water park!!

The food was also not up to par. The ribs were so hard, my daughter couldn't bite into them, and the catfish bites were cold and tasted old.

Where I'm from, Famous Dave's is amazing, a good place that treats its customers great. I was excited to come to this location, but this experience will always make think twice about coming back when I come back to town!

On 29May 2023 my family of 6 dine in an was very unhappy with the food and the service. Food was cold and the waiter (Alex) was very disrespectful and need training especially when dealing with the public. supervisor John was no better with dealing with the issue. And should be retrained.Please stay way from this location.The tables were dirty and also the utensils. We were disappointed because we have visited this location for several years now but this establishment is now being poorly run and supervised.

We showed up in front for seating, it's 6:45 exactly at may of 27. Just in case the manager wants to watch the Camara. We ask the Chinese guy and the lady if we can sit upstairs. They said yes, they sat us downstairs, they sat the people in the back of us upstairs with the same amount of people. I came here since I was little and love the place, but those kids working their ruined it. I even try to talk to a manager and they said he was not available the man with the neck tattoo said. Ruined a little part of my Vacation and I was hoping to eat here today. Thanks young kids! At least act like you care!

We did not stay to eat. We were the first customers of the day at 11 am when they unlocked. The table was dirty so they reseated us to an almost clean table. The high chair was dirty. When they handed us sticky, dirty menus( all of them) we left. The staff was nice and understanding.

Maybe it’s because we go to famous Dave’s primarily in Oklahoma, but this was quite the disappointment.
Service wasn’t horrible, but the food was and definitely wasn’t Famous Dave’s food like we love.
Waiter was nice and understanding and took percentage off for unhappiness on the food which we appreciated. Just disappointed!

Family and I came here for lunch. I love bbq and we don't have a famous Dave's near us in illinois. Service left something to be desired but the food was good and the restaurant was definitely decked out in bbq decor. Pigs everywhere!!

Horrible service. If I could give this place zero stars I would. We were seated and then totally ignored by the servers. People that came after us were served before us. Noone has ever came up to us for the 30 minutes we were there so we left.

The only reason it's getting 2 stars is because the food was decent.
If I hadn't been with a group that wanted to eat here, I would have turned around as soon as we got to the table. They sat us at a dirty table, and then when they moved us to another one that one was dirty too. Service was mediocre, waitress was the most unenthusiastic, gave no cares I've ever had.
It's a big chain restaurant but they could have real silverware. Will not eat at another famous Dave's again
